5 Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Strong Hybrid Cars – Fronx, Baleno, Brezza

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Fronx Hybrid1

Maruti Suzuki intends to have at least six strong hybrid models in its product portfolio in India by the end of 2030

We earlier told you that Maruti Suzuki is developing its own strong hybrid system for smaller cars in the Indian market. It was supposed to debut in the Fronx facelift in the second half of 2025 in the Indian market. However, the latest update is that the Maruti Fronx hybrid launch in India has been postponed to the first quarter of 2026 in our country. The company aims to equip its entire line-up of small cars with the self-developed series hybrid technology in near future, which includes Baleno, Swift and Brezza too.

The HEV system developed in-house by Maruti will strictly be used for smaller cars while the bigger SUV and MPV models will continue to use Toyota’s strong hybrid setup. It is said to be substantially more affordable than Toyota’s strong hybrid powertrain. Maruti’s series hybrid system comprises of a battery and an electric motor which are connected to the petrol engine.

Unlike the traditional hybrid systems, here the electric motor drives the wheel while the engine acts as a generator by developing electricity to charge the battery and power the electric motor. Hence, this system is also known as a range extender. This system by Maruti Suzuki is highly reliable and affordable while offering lowest cost of maintenance as compared to the series-parallel and parallel-only hybrid powertrains.

The HEV system will debut with the Fronx crossover in 2026. Gradually, we will see it in most of the small cars in Maruti’s portfolio. The new-gen Baleno will also get this hybrid tech with a launch scheduled around Diwali 2026. The company is working on a sub 4-m MPV model, inspired by the Japan-spec Spacia, which is expected to launch by mid 2027 with the strong hybrid powertrain.

The new-gen Maruti Swift is also under development and it is expected to break cover by the end of 2027. Needless to state, it will also feature the strong hybrid powertrain. Last but not the least, the new-gen Maruti Brezza, likely to launch by mid 2028, will be the first company SUV to be powered by the new strong hybrid setup. All these smaller cars will get the 1.2L Z12E petrol engine with the strong hybrid system as it will also meet the upcoming CAFÉ standards (BS7 emission norms).

The company has set an annual sales target of 8 lakh units from the strong hybrid vehicles, including its own hybrid system and Toyota’s Atkinson hybrid system.

Recently, Hyundai confirmed that it is planning to introduce as many as 26 new models for India. The lineup includes brand new offerings and updated versions, and six of which will be electric vehicles. The second largest carmaker in the country will look to strengthen its compact portfolio as well and here we have listed the possible upcoming offerings:

1,2&3. Hyundai Small EV, i10 EV & Venue EV:

Hyundai-Inster-Cross.jpg
Inster Cross

Hyundai appears to be plotting a small electric SUV targetting the budget-conscious end of the segment with a launch tentatively next year. The design is believed to be influenced by the Inster EV seen overseas, suggesting a compact footprint wrapped around a high-riding silhouette. Slated to square off against rivals such as the Punch EV, the new EV could play a pivotal role in Hyundai’s EV roadmap for India as five all-new EVs are lined up till FY2030. In addition, electric versions of the Grand i10 Nios and Venue are said to be under development.

4. Next Gen Hyundai Venue:

Hyundai is preparing to bring in the next-generation Venue by late 2025. A refreshed exterior styling package taking inspiration from the existing Creta can be clearly seen in the spy images while noticeable upgrades inside the cabin are also possible to maintain its stance in the crowded compact SUV space where rivals continue to evolve rapidly.

Inside, Hyundai could upgrade cabin quality through improved materials and additional features. The refreshed model will be built at the company’s new manufacturing plant in Talegaon.

5. Hyundai Bayon SUV:

The future compact SUV, rumoured to borrow cues from the Bayon sold overseas, could carve out a niche in the sub-four-metre category. Sitting between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s range, the upcoming model is expected to feature distinct styling while sharing mechanicals and equipment with the next-gen Venue. It will have to be waited and seen whether it will arrive or not.

Tata To Expand Lineup With 4 New SUV Launches Soon In India

GaadiWaadi -

Tata-Avinya-X-2.jpg

Following the launch of the Harrier EV on June 3, Tata will introduce the new Sierra in both ICE and electric guises in India

Tata Motors is inching closer to introducing the Harrier EV on Indian roads with its official debut set for June 3, 2025. Once the electric SUV breaks cover, the brand is set to follow it up with the launch of the Sierra – not just in EV form but also with internal combustion options running on petrol and diesel.

While the company has yet to pin down exact launch dates, both models are scheduled to arrive within the current financial year. It must be noted that Tata recently introduced the Altroz facelift in India with feature enhancements and revised cabin as well as exterior. Tata pulled the wraps off the near-production Sierra at BMGE 2025 earlier this year.

Developed to handle more than just city streets, the electric Harrier is set to arrive in both single-motor and dual-motor variants – the latter bringing an all-wheel-drive setup to the table, clearly targeting better grip and adaptability over rougher surfaces. As for capability, both electric models are expected to deliver a driving range upwards of 500 kilometres on a single charge.

Tata could be gearing up to roll out the internal combustion-powered Sierra toward the end of 2025. It is expected to carry forward the familiar 2.0-litre diesel engine, delivering roughly 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options will likely consist of a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter automatic.

Tata has signed a deal with FCA to upgrade this Multijet powertrain and thus we can expect improvements or expansions within the brand’s diesel portfolio soon. In addition, Tata might finally bring its long-anticipated 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor to market with the Sierra, a unit believed to generate about 168 PS and 280 Nm.

MINI Cooper S Price Protection Program Launched In India

2024 MINI Cooper S 3-Door

MINI Launches Price Protection Program For CBU Cooper S Models

MINI has launched a price protection program for the Cooper S. The brand calls it the Price Protection Assurance. This scheme only applies to Cooper S models imported into the country via CBU (Completely Built Unit).

What Is The Assurance Program?

The price assurance protection program will allow 3-door Cooper S buyers to get the benefits of any price cuts up to 180 days from the date of purchase. MINI India dealerships will offer this scheme for a limited period. Note that the offer does not cover the Electric MINI Countryman since it is built in BMW’s plant in Leipzig, Germany.

Not to mention, the Cooper S models, which are built in the brand’s plant in Oxford, UK, will be considered valid for this program.

India-UK FTA

India and the UK signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that reduced the import duty on cars from 100% to 10%. As a result, few British-manufactured cars will get a reduction in prices. This scheme is a way for customers to receive the benefits from any import duty price cuts which may happen.

However, the India-UK FTA still has some ambiguities which need to be filled. Customers are waiting for the terms to be clear so they can make their purchase. Mini states that this Price Protection Assurance should ease irregularities and enable customers to make their purchase.

GaadiWaadi -

Nissan-C-SUV-Compact-MPV.jpeg

At the forefront of Nissan’s renewed product push is a B-segment MPV which is scheduled to reach showrooms before the end of this financial year

We already know that Renault will take full control of Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd by purchasing Nissan’s 51 per cent share in the joint venture that runs the manufacturing facility in Oragadam near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Nissan, however, continues to have a strong presence locally and target domestic sales of more than one lakh units.

The Japanese auto major, despite global woes, plans to export an additional one lakh vehicles from the country by the end of fiscal year 2027 and it has lined up as many as four new models over the next two years. Recently, Nissan reiterated its commitment to the Indian market and noted that two new offerings are in the pipeline within the next 12 months.

At the forefront of Nissan’s renewed product push is a B-segment MPV scheduled to reach showrooms before the end of this financial year – an addition that could help the company establish a presence in the family vehicle space aiming good volumes. It will be underpinned by the same platform as the Renault Triber but will have a brand new styling.

Courtesy of high localisation, we can expect it to be priced highly competitively as well. The second brand new model will be a C-segment SUV which is expected to launch midway through next year. It will act as a spiritual successor to the Nissan Terrano and will be based on the forthcoming next-gen Renault Duster.

Both Duster and its Nissan sibling could be equipped with a hybrid petrol engine but no official confirmation has been made yet. However, they won’t feature a diesel powertrain. Both the B-MPV and C-SUV have been teased multiple times in India and the latter draws inspiration from the iconic Patrol while boasting styling elements from latest global Nissan SUVs.

Updated Land Rover Defender Headed To India This Year

GaadiWaadi -

Defender Octa 2

JLR’s hot-selling brute SUV gets its first round of updates, enhancing aesthetics, convenience, and off-road capability while keeping the much-loved character intact

The modern-day Land Rover Defender has effortlessly stretched on for five years without a cosmetic refresh. While it still enjoys a cult status in the world of luxury SUVs in the same way as the Toyota Fortuner in the mass market and is successfully selling in big volumes, JLR has decided to give it a cosmetic refresh anyway.

Available in the familiar 90, 110, and 130 versions, the new Land Rover Defender embodies subtle design revisions, giving a minor taste of new while keeping the much-loved identity from 2019 intact. There’s a crisp new design for the headlight graphics, although you’d need to look hard to tell it apart from the previous one.

The bumpers may also look unchanged at first sight, but JLR says they have “optimised surfaces”. Internationally, customers can specify them in Silicon Silver or Carpathian Grey Satin. JLR offers new 22-inch seven-spoke diamond-cut dark grey alloy wheels on the new Defender.

Also new on the latest Defender are a textured pattern for the bonnet inserts and side vents, Gloss Black Defender-branded wheel centre caps, and darkened tail lights. JLR has made a gloss black grille-bar on the Defender standard with the latest update. Moreover, the company has introduced two new paint options as well: Borasco Grey and Woolstone Green.

Defender Octa customers now have a choice of two new special colours:: Borasco Grey and Sargasso Blue. JLR has also introduced a Patagonia White Matte Wrap finish for the new Defender Octa and Defender V8 models. The updated model features Textured Graphite detailing for a more rugged styling, and unlike the previous one, it can be specified with Chopped Carbon Fibre exterior and interior accents.

Inside, there’s a new 13.1-inch touchscreen, replacing the previous model’s standard and available 10- and 11.4-inch touchscreens, respectively. The larger display aligns with the big dimensions of the Defender better and should allow customers to operate the infotainment system more easily.

Unlike the old model, the latest one has a driver-facing camera for a new Driver Attention Monitoring safety feature. Aiming off-road enthusiasts, JLR has introduced an Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control as an option feature. Especially useful for new adventurers, this feature automatically adjusts the speed and lets the driver simply focus on steering the vehicle.

The company has yet to disclose if the new Defender has any changes to the engines or transmissions, although no major revisions are expected. It will likely launch the latest model in India in the second half of the year, possibly as a more competitively priced model locally assembled from CKD kits.
