In May 2026, Toyota recorded total sales of 30,574 units as against 29,280 units with a YoY growth of 4 per cent

Toyota Kirloskar Motor continued its growth trajectory in May 2026 recording domestic sales of 30,574 units compared to 29,280 units during the same month last year. The company posted a 4 per cent year-on-year increase and a marginal 1 per cent improvement over April 2026. Consistent volumes for the Innova range, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Fortuner remained the key factor while premium offerings such as the Vellfire and Land Cruiser 300 registered impressive gains.

The Innova Hycross and Innova Crysta combination once again emerged as Toyota’s best-selling product family. Combined sales stood at 10,325 units in May 2026 – up 16 per cent from 8,882 units a year ago. Volumes also improved 7 per cent compared to April. The Innova range alone contributed nearly one-third of Toyota’s overall monthly dispatches.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder remained Toyota’s second largest volume generator with 8,664 units. The midsize SUV’s sales increased 14 per cent year-on-year but volumes slipped 5 per cent compared to April 2026. Appreciable demand for petrol and hybrid variants continues to support the five-seater’s performance.

The Hilux also recorded healthy growth – climbing 29 per cent year-on-year to 414 units and improving 36 per cent over April.

Not every model enjoyed a positive month. The more affordable Glanza’s sales declined by 33 per cent to 3,198 units while the Taisor dropped 18 per cent to 2,496 units. Both products also witnessed month-on-month declines. The Rumion, on the other hand, remained one of the brighter spots among Toyota’s rebadged offerings posting 11 per cent growth with 2,119 units but its sales were down 18 per cent compared to April.

Toyota’s luxury portfolio recorded some of the highest growth figures during the month. 2026 Tata Tiago EV Facelift Detailed Drive Review & 100-0% Range Test

GaadiWaadi -

2026 tata tiago ev (3)

Is the 2026 Tata Tiago EV still the best value electric hatchback in the country? Do check out our detailed range test in the link below

Tata Motors has given the Tiago EV its biggest update since launch and the changes go well beyond cosmetic tweaks. The 2026 Tiago EV Facelift arrives at a time when the segment sees increased acceptance from consumers. We recently spent an extended period with the top-spec variant and conducted a comprehensive 100-0 per cent range evaluation to understand whether the updated Tiago EV still deserves a place at the top of the entry-level electric car segment.

Under the skin, the top-end variant continues with Tata’s 24 kWh battery pack offering a certified range of 285 km. Power is delivered through a front-mounted electric motor producing close to 75 hp and 114 Nm of torque. While these numbers may not appear particularly impressive on paper, the instant torque delivery transforms the way the car feels in city conditions.

Acceleration from standstill is brisk and overtaking slower traffic requires minimal effort. The compact dimensions combined with light steering make navigating crowded urban environments remarkably easy. The facelift introduces a sharper exterior appearance with revised LED lighting elements, a redesigned front fascia, new alloy wheel designs and subtle updates to the rear.

Despite its age, the Tiago’s proportions continue to work well and the facelift helps disguise the platform’s maturity. Fit and finish levels have also improved, particularly on the inside. It comprises a revised dashboard, a 26.03 cm HD touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a new digital instrument cluster, iRA.ev connectivity with in-car connected tech, dual smartphone deck with wireless charging and more.

Other key features are automatic temperature control, rear AC vents, seats with extended under thigh support, 65W front Type-C USB, cruise control, a four speaker surround system, six airbags as standard, a 360 degree SVS HD camera with multiple 2D and 3D views, a Blind View Monitor, 360 degree impact protection body structure, ESP with traction control, ABS with EBD, Corner Stability Control, Hill Hold Control and more.

In the video linked above, we have explained about the new affordable e-hatchback in detail and it is sold in four variants namely Smart 19, Pure+ 19, Pure+ 24 and Creative+ 24. It also boasts a lifetime high voltage battery warranty on the 24 kWh pack (15 years for first time owner).

Mahindra Thar (2)

Mahindra registered 58,021 units in May 2026 with an 11 per cent increase over the 52,431 units sold during the same period last year

Mahindra & Mahindra closed last month with domestic PV sales of 58,021 units – registering an 11 per cent increase over the 52,431 units recorded in May 2025. Its volume growth was supported by continued demand for the Scorpio, Thar and XUV 7XO while the company’s expanding electric vehicle portfolio added more volumes through the XEV 9S. Unlike several manufacturers that rely heavily on a select few products, Mahindra continued to spread its volumes across multiple SUV segments ranging from off-roaders to premium electric vehicles.

The Mahindra Scorpio remained the company’s biggest volume contributor during the month. Sales stood at 15,774 units – up 10 per cent from 14,401 units in May 2025. Its month-on-month volumes also improved by 7 per cent over April 2026. Even years after launch, the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic combination continues to attract consumers.

The Thar recorded 10,787 units in May 2026 – improving by 4 per cent year-on-year. The Scorpio and Thar generated more than 26,500 units – accounting for nearly half of Mahindra’s monthly passenger vehicle sales. Another appreciable performer was the XUV 7XO. The three-row SUV delivered 9,338 units and posted a healthy 45 per cent increase over the 6,435 units recorded a year ago.

The desire for feature-rich variants, ADAS-equipped trims and premium positioning continues to support the XUV 7XO’s consistently in the highly competitive SUV category. The Bolero remained a steady contributor with 8,933 units. While year-on-year growth was virtually flat, the utility vehicle continues to maintain a loyal customer base.

The recently launched Mahindra XEV 9S recorded 3,502 units and improved 8 per cent over April. The XEV 9e added another 1,939 units but volumes declined 31 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, the BE 6 contributed 902 units. Combined sales of the XEV 9S, XEV 9e and BE 6 crossed 6,300 units which put the brand in second position in the electric PV sales.

Hyundai Betting Big On Upcoming Hybrid SUVs – Here’s What To Expect

GaadiWaadi -

2027-Next-Gen-Hyundai-Creta-Rendered-1.jpg

Hyundai has reportedly been working on a host of hybrid SUVs for India over the next two to three years and here are all the information we know so far

Hybrid technology could soon become a major talking point of Hyundai in India. While Toyota and Maruti Suzuki currently dominate the segment through the Hyryder, Grand Vitara, Victoris and Innova HyCross, Hyundai is working on multiple hybrid SUVs that will target different price points. The company is reportedly planning at least three new hybrid offerings for the local market.

The most premium of the trio is expected to be the Palisade Hybrid. Hyundai is evaluating the full-size SUV for India and a launch around 2028 remains possible. Sold overseas as a large three-row family SUV, the Palisade Hybrid combines a turbocharged petrol engine and electric motor while offering premium safety technologies and extensive cabin equipment. If introduced here, it would become Hyundai’s most expensive ICE-powered SUV.

Positioned well below the Palisade will be a completely new three-row SUV known internally as Ni1i. Expected to arrive towards the end of 2027, the model will fill the gap between the Alcazar and now-discontinued Tucson. Unlike many existing seven-seaters that rely solely on petrol or diesel power, hybrid technology is expected to be a core part of the package from the outset.

Hyundai-Palisade-Hybrid-India.jpg

Reports indicate that a modified 1.5-litre petrol engine will work alongside an electric motor with the ability to drive on electric power alone during certain low-speed situations. That capability could become a significant advantage in city environments where stop-start traffic often limits fuel efficiency. Hyundai is also expected to use the same hybrid architecture across multiple future products – helping spread development costs while improving economies of scale.

Kia’s Seltos is also believed to be a potential recipient of this hybrid system. Volume, however, will come from the next-generation Creta. Internally known as SX3, the new SUV is expected to arrive in 2027 and will likely become Hyundai’s first high-volume hybrid offering in India. Few vehicles are better suited for electrification considering the current Creta crossed the two lakh annual sales milestone in FY26 as its popularity will be of certain help.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Plug in hybrid
Tucson PHEV

The upcoming model is expected to move onto Hyundai’s new K3 architecture and could stretch close to the 4.5-metre mark. Test vehicles have already hinted at a noticeably larger footprint compared to the existing SUV. Inside, one can expect upgraded materials, larger displays, additional connected technologies and a more premium appeal. Existing petrol, turbo petrol and diesel engines are likely to continue.

Rivals such as the Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara currently enjoy a largely uncontested position in the mainstream hybrid SUV space and Hyundai’s entry could significantly alter that equation.

Suzuki Jimny Rihno (3)

Suzuki’s iconic off-road-oriented SUV gains new convenience and safety features and a more rugged exterior styling in Malaysia

Suzuki has launched two new variants of the Jimny in Malaysia: Allgrip Plus and Rhino Plus. The company offers both new variants in the 3-door version of the mini off-roader. The Suzuki Jimny Allgrip Plus brings a raft of additional features over the standard Jimny. It features power-folding side mirrors with a heating function and a 9-inch touchscreen for enhanced convenience.

An mmWave radar, a monocular camera, and a reverse camera have also been added. Unlike the regular Suzuki Jimny, the Suzuki Jimny Allgrip Plus features Dual Sensor Brake Support II, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Weaving Alert, Automatic High Beam, Emergency Stop Signal, and side and curtain airbags.

The new variant is thus significantly better on the safety front. Other highlights include automatic LED headlamps with washer, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 50:50-split rear seat.

Under the hood, there’s the familiar K15B 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 101 hp and 130 Nm of torque. A 4-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive system work together to send drive to the wheels. Imported from Japan, the Suzuki Jimny Allgrip Plus retails at MYR 158,900 (excl. insurance), which converts to roughly Rs. 37.28 lakh.

The Suzuki Jimny Rhino Plus is all about exclusive styling. It flaunts the iconic Rhino logo on the spare wheel in reference to the Suzuki SJ series, the Suzuki Heritage grille, “Real Offroader” branded red, gray, and black decals on the hood and the side doors, red mud flaps with “Jimny” lettering, and side and front bumper under garnish.

Similarly, a 4-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive system are responsible for channeling power to the wheels. This variant is also imported from Japan, and it’s even more expensive, costing MYR 173,900 (excl. insurance), which converts to approximately Rs. 40.80 lakh.

3 New Hyundai Creta Rivals Arriving Soon In India – Key Details

GaadiWaadi -

Tata Sierra EV

Competition in the mid-size SUV segment, dominated by the Hyundai Creta, to become more intense with three new launches in the coming months

The mid-size SUV segment in India has seen plenty of interesting launches since the arrival of the all-new Tata Sierra in November. Three more mid-size SUVs are expected to be launched in the coming months, adding to the excitement in the booming segment.

On July 9, Nissan will unveil the Tekton, its long-overdue successor to the Terrano. The Nissan Tekton will be based on the same platform and feature the same shape as the all-new Renault Duster. However, it will have a sharper and more elegant exterior, with some inspiration drawn from the Japanese brand’s global flagship SUV – the Nissan Patrol.

Nissan will likely launch the Tekton towards the end of July and offer it with the same 1.0- and 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engines as Renault’s Duster. Similarly, 6-speed manual and 6-speed dual-wet-clutch automatic transmissions should be offered, with the latter exclusive to the 1.3-litre engine. A hybrid variant with a 1.8-litre direct-injection petrol engine and an electric motor may follow in early 2027.

Later this month, Tata Motors is expected to unveil the pure electric variant of the all-new Sierra – the Sierra.ev. The company has already revealed the Sierra.ev will feature a cleaner front-end that would better align with the zero-tailpipe-emission nature of its powertrain while also providing it a distinctive visual identity. The rest of the exterior and the interior are expected to be largely identical to the ICE donor.

The Tata Sierra.ev will likely be offered in standard-range RWD, extended-range RWD, and extended-range AWD variants. In addition to the rear-biased drivetrain layout, a multi-link rear suspension and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) bi-directional charging function will differentiate it from the ICE Sierra. The Sierra.ev will likely deliver a range of up to around 600 kilometres in the extended-range RWD variant.

Honda is not expected to roll out any mechanical changes for the Elevate with the mid-cycle refresh.

Honda could finally be preparing to bring the ADV 160 to India with a report suggesting that the company is currently working on localising the premium maxi-scooter for the domestic market. While an official announcement is yet to be made, speculations indicate that a launch could take place before the end of 2026 or during the early months of 2027.

Unlike traditional scooters sold in India, the ADV 160 has been developed with an adventure-based approach. The scooter rides on a 14-inch front wheel and a 13-inch rear wheel wrapped in tubeless tyres measuring 110/80-14 and 130/70-13 respectively.

Power comes from Honda’s latest 156.9 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder eSP+ engine featuring four valves and fuel injection. The motor develops 15.8 hp at 8,500 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm coupled with a CVT automatic transmission.
