Tata, Hyundai, Toyota & Kia Ready Major New Electrified SUV Launches In India

GaadiWaadi -

Kia Sorento (6)

New electrified SUVs from Tata Motors, Hyundai, Toyota and Kia are expected to arrive within the next 12 months in India

Over the next few quarters, several manufacturers will introduce battery-powered and hybrid SUVs across multiple price brackets bringing new tech to mainstream segments. Toyota’s next-generation Fortuner is among the biggest arrivals on the horizon. The new SUV is expected to get a host of revisions inside and out and it has already been caught testing on foreign soil.

Global versions point towards a 2.7-litre petrol engine, an updated 2.8-litre diesel unit and hybrid assistance. The SUV will continue to sit on an evolved version of the architecture shared with the Hilux pickup which is also bound for India. Cabin upgrades, a larger technology suite, additional safety equipment and improved driveability will also be on the agenda.

At the opposite end of the electrification spectrum sits the Tata Sierra EV. Two battery choices – 65 kWh and 75 kWh – are likely while rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive layouts are expected to be available. Tata is also preparing to offer features such as vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-vehicle charging capability. To slot above the Nexon EV and Curvv EV, the Sierra EV will compete with a host of midsize e-SUVs.

Kia’s Indian operations are simultaneously preparing a new compact electric SUV based on the Syros. It is expected to be produced locally and tailored for domestic requirements. It will take on Tata Nexon EV, Punch EV and Mahindra XUV 400. Connected technology and a comprehensive feature list are speculated just as in the ICE version.

Another important product under development is Kia’s Sorento hybrid premium SUV. Expected to feature three rows of seating, the model could utilise a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine working alongside an electric motor system. Combined output is expected to be around 227 hp while torque figures could cross the 350 Nm mark. A six-speed automatic transmission could handle power delivery.

Dual 12.3-inch displays, Level 2 ADAS functions and upmarket features will be available. The best-selling midsize SUV in the country, the Hyundai Creta, appears to get a major overhaul with a possible strong hybrid powertrain in the near future while its sibling the Kia Seltos may also follow suit. The three-row Ni1i SUV could also use the same powertrain.

New Hyundai Creta Spied Testing With Multiple Updates & Pleos Tech

GaadiWaadi -

new-gen-hyundai-creta-spied-india.jpg

New Hyundai Creta is expected to go on sale sometime next year and it could be equipped with a strong hybrid powertrain in India

Hyundai has once again been spotted testing an updated version of the Creta, this time in the mountainous regions around Manali. Such locations are commonly used by manufacturers to assess cooling systems, drivetrain calibration, braking efficiency and electronic systems under thinner air and steeper gradients. The frequency of recent sightings suggests that the new SUV is not far away from making its public debut.

The test vehicle looks to be carrying an evolved chassis setup and several technology upgrades that could separate it further from the outgoing version. Reports indicate Hyundai is preparing a more sophisticated rear suspension arrangement – replacing the existing setup with a multi-link architecture. Such a revision could result in improved ride comfort across rough surfaces while also helping body control during high speeds.

Spy photographs from earlier test mules revealed a massive integrated digital display stretching across the dashboard. Hyundai is reportedly preparing its new-gen Pleos operating system for the SUV. The software platform is part of the company’s latest connected vehicle strategy and will allow deeper integration of vehicle functions, navigation, entertainment and connected services.

Importantly, physical controls are expected to stay in place for commonly used functions – reducing dependency on touchscreen inputs. International prototypes have previously been seen wearing new wheels but the Indian test vehicle appears to use a different alloy design similar to units seen on the Kia Seltos. Expect redesigned front and rear bumpers, a revised grille treatment, updated lighting elements and sharper detailing across the body panels.

The overall footprint could also increase slightly – potentially creating additional room inside the cabin. Engine options are not expected to undergo major changes. Hyundai could retain the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor producing 115 hp and 144 Nm, the 1.5-litre diesel delivering 116 hp and 250 Nm and the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit generating 160 hp and 253 Nm. Transmission choices should continue to comprise manual, CVT, automatic and seven-speed dual-clutch options.

Spy Source:
amarttyajit_sinha/instagram

The strong hybrid 1.5-litre petrol mill has also been speculated. Another notable addition tipped for the updated model is a column-mounted shift-by-wire selector. The system has already appeared in latest Hyundai products and frees up additional storage space in the centre console area. The packaging improvements could help create a cleaner dashboard layout alongside the new digital interface.

The Korean brand is also expected to revise the Creta Electric after the updated petrol and diesel versions arrive. It could transition to LFP battery chemistry in place of the current NMC to help reduce costs while improving durability. We can expect it to make its global debut towards the end of this year or in early 2027 before going on sale in markets like India.

GaadiWaadi -

Jetour T2 (1)

From JSW MG Motor to Mercedes-Benz, multiple brands to launch new plug-in hybrid EVs in India in the coming months

While the Indian car market is gradually warming up to hybrid powertrains, plug-in hybrid technology still remains a niche, being limited to select a few luxury models. However, this year, the availability of plug-in hybrid systems will extend to mass-market and premium segments as well. Between now and December, four new PHEVs will be launched in India:

1. Mercedes S-Class

Mercedes-Benz plans to launch the facelifted S-Class in India on 15 June, and it will offer the updated full-size luxury sedan in the S 450 e plug-in hybrid variant. In the long wheelbase version, expected to be standard in our market, the S 450 e combines a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor for 429 hp of system power and 680 Nm of total torque.

new-2026-mercedes-benz-s-class.jpg

A 21.96 kWh battery pack powers the electric motor, and it can be charged at up to 11 kW (AC)/60 kW (DC). According to WLTP, it delivers a zero-emission range of 109 kilometres.

In China, Chery offers a choice of 27.2 kWh and 43.24 kWh LFP battery packs, and the latter delivers a range of up to 162 kilometres, as per WLTC. Which of the configurations is planned to be offered in the rebadged Indian model, which will be locally assembled from imported knocked-down kits, remains to be seen.

3. MG 520

Wuling starlight 560 (9)

JSW MG Motor will launch a rebadged version of the SAIC-GM-Wuling Chinese joint venture’s Wuling Starlight 560 in India by October. The company plans to sell this model in pure electric and plug-in hybrid variants, and while the 5- and 7-seat versions are available internationally, it may only offer the latter here. The plug-in hybrid variant pairs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with an electric motor and uses a 20.5 kWh LFP battery pack. It can travel up to 125 kilometres in EV mode, as per CLTC. In India, it will challenge the likes of Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari.

GaadiWaadi -

Tata Safari EV Rendering (1)

Tata Motors will further expand its EV portfolio with the launch of the Sierra EV and Safari EV in the coming months in India

Tata Motors already has the biggest and most diverse EV portfolio in the Indian market with as many as half a dozen models across various segments. However, that hasn’t stopped the brand from rolling out more new electric cars. Now, it is all set to expand the EV line-up on June 30 by presenting the Sierra EV – its newest and latest EV model. That’s not all, as the homegrown automaker will further widen the electric vehicle range by launching the Safari EV during the festive season of Diwali (Oct-Nov 2026) in the Indian market.

Hence, in the next 3-5 months, we will witness 2 new electric SUVs with AWD powertrains going on sale in the domestic market. Tata Motors retails the all-electric versions of the Tiago, Tigor, Punch, Nexon, Curvv and Harrier in India. Now, with the launch of the Sierra and Safari electric SUVs, the company will have a presence in practically every popular segment.

First things first, Tata Sierra EV debuted at the Auto Expo 2020 in concept form. It was later showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 as well while the production-ready version was teased last year alongside the launch of Sierra ICE. Likely to be positioned between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV, it will be underpinned by the acti.ev+ architecture.

Hyundai And Kia To Launch New Models With Hybrid Powertrain

GaadiWaadi -

Kia Sorento

Hyundai and Kia will launch new hybrid 5-seater and 7-seater SUVs in the Indian market in the next 9-12 months

Hyundai and Kia, the South-Korean auto brands, have officially confirmed the launch of hybrid vehicles in the Indian market. While the current-gen Seltos is expected to get a hybridised version by the end of this year, the new-gen Creta is likely to be Hyundai’s first hybrid model in India as it launches by mid 2027. The other two Hyundai and Kia hybrid vehicles in India will be three-row, seven-seater premium SUVs which are believed to go on sale by the end of 2027 in the domestic market.

Both the Korean brands have been extremely tightlipped about the powertrain details of the upcoming hybrid cars in India. However, we have learnt that the existing 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol engine will be hybridised in the Seltos and Creta. Recently, a media report stated that Hyundai has commenced work on an all-new 1.2L TGDi petrol engine with hybrid tech which will debut with the Bayon crossover.

The report further added that this 1.2L petrol hybrid engine will be seen in Hyundai’s future models sold in India as well as global markets. In fact, the upcoming new-gen Hyundai Creta could be equipped with the same powertrain setup while it retains the existing petrol and diesel engine options. More details are expected post the launch of the Bayon crossover, which is considered as Hyundai’s rival to Maruti Suzuki Fronx.

Talking about Hyundai’s 7-seater hybrid SUV, it could be based on the long-wheelbase version of the China-spec Tucson SUV. Codenamed Ni1i, it could be priced between Rs 20-25 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian market. As for Kia’s 7-seater hybrid SUV, it will be a Sorento-based model which has been codenamed MQ4i. Likely to be priced around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kia hybrid SUV will directly rival Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari.

Needless to mention, the hybrid models of the Creta and Seltos would command a premium of at least Rs 2 lakh over their regular petrol-powered versions. Recently, the new-gen Creta was spotted testing in India and the spy images confirmed a premium, upmarket and exquisite cabin. In addition, it will be underpinned by a new K3 platform, shared with new-gen Seltos, with overall dimensions higher than the current model.

The high-performance version of the second generation Kodiaq will sit at the top of the lineup and arrive as the quickest and most powerful Skoda SUV ever introduced in India. Deliveries are expected to commence soon after the launch.

The Kodiaq RS carries a much more aggressive appearance than the standard model. A gloss black grille, black exterior accents, RS-specific bumpers, larger alloy wheels and exclusive badging will help distinguish it from regular variants. The front fascia also gains a sportier treatment while the rear section features a full-width lighting element and RS branding.

In addition, contrast red brake calipers will further separate the performance-based SUV from the standard model. Power comes from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI turbocharged petrol engine producing a maximum power output of 265 hp and 400 Nm of peak torque. The motor is married to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system as standard.

BMW M Concept Breaks Cover At Le Mans Previewing New Electric M3

GaadiWaadi -

BMW-M-Concept-Electric-M3.jpg

The M Concept Neue Klasse previews what the future high-performance electric M cars could look like especially the M3 EV

BMW has taken the wraps off the M Concept Neue Klasse at the 24 Hours of Le Mans providing the clearest indication yet of what the future high-performance electric M cars could look like especially the M3 EV. The concept previews a new design direction for BMW M while introducing a new electric powertrain featuring four motors, an 800-volt architecture and a battery pack of more than 100 kWh capacity.

More importantly, it demonstrates how BMW intends to carry its motorsport DNA into the electric era. The biggest talking point lies underneath the bodywork. BMW has developed a new M eDrive system specifically for future all-electric M products. The setup combines four electric motors with BMW M Dynamic Performance Control software integrated into the company’s new computing system enabling individual wheel control for both power delivery and braking functions.

BMW says the system can also deliver extremely high recuperation capability while improving response times. The powertrain is built around BMW’s sixth generation Neue Klasse tech. An 800-volt electrical architecture forms the foundation while a high-voltage battery with more than 100 kWh of energy capacity provides the energy source. BMW has also developed a dedicated M-specific version of its sixth-gen cylindrical battery cells to offer higher output during acceleration as well as faster charging capability.

BMW-M-Concept-Electric-M3-1.jpg

The battery structure is integrated directly into the vehicle architecture and contributes to chassis rigidity and handling. On the outside, the concept gets an aggressive stance with wide wheel arches, pronounced shoulders and muscular proportions. BMW has deliberately linked the design to motorsport through several functional aerodynamic elements like reworked M aerodynamic mirrors, a prominent bonnet air outlet and a large rear diffuser.

A distinctive ducktail spoiler sits at the rear to increase downforce while complementing the clean surface treatment. The front end gains several features that are expected to influence future M models. The traditional kidney grille and headlamp units have been merged into a single design element. Yellow lighting graphics, known as M Yellow Lights, reference endurance racing machinery including the BMW M Hybrid V8. The concept also debuts new three-dimensional Track Lights integrated into the bumper sections. Similar elements appear at the rear where they frame the diffuser assembly.

BMW-M-Concept-Electric-M3-Interior.jpg

BMW has placed a strong emphasis on lightweight and sustainable materials. Natural fibre components can be found in several areas including the front splitter, diffuser and bonnet air outlet. The material also appears within the roof graphics where BMW has incorporated subtle M branding. A newly developed Monza Red metallic exterior finish and centre-lock wheels featuring red and blue accents further connect the concept to BMW’s motorsport heritage.

The cabin follows a minimalist approach with four newly developed bucket seats featuring integrated natural-fibre structural elements while a dual-tone combination of Bathurst Blue and Berry Red Merino leather references BMW M colours. Red five-point harnesses elevate the race-inspired theme while BMW has also introduced black nubuck leather across the steering wheel, door panels and roll structure.

BMW-M-Concept-Electric-M3-Interior.jpg

A floating dashboard finished in black knit material features illuminated hexagonal detailing unique to M products while contrast red accents appear on the steering wheel controls, gear selector and digital displays. Every aspect of the interior has been configured around performance driving according to the brand.

Skoda Kylaq Sportline To Launch In India This Festive Season – All Key Details

GaadiWaadi -

Skoda-Kylaq-Sportline-Rendered.jpg

Skoda Kylaq Sportline is expected to slot between mid-spec variants and the higher Prestige grades while carrying a more aggressive exterior theme

Skoda will consolidate the Kylaq’s range this festive season with the introduction of a new Sportline variant which was confirmed earlier this year. The compact SUV has already emerged as a key volume model for the Czech manufacturer and the upcoming trim will add a sportier flavour to the lineup. The new version is expected to slot between mid-spec variants and the higher Prestige grades while carrying a more aggressive exterior theme.

The Sportline treatment will primarily enable exterior revisions. Darkened design elements, black-finished alloy wheels, black exterior accents and Sportline badging could differentiate it from the standard Kylaq. Similar treatment has already been seen on other Sportline-badged Skoda products sold internationally as well as in India – Kushaq and Slavia. Cosmetic upgrades are expected to be the primary talking point rather than mechanical revisions.

Under the bonnet, the Skoda Kylaq Sportline is expected to continue with the familiar 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI turbocharged petrol engine. The motor develops 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque and is mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. No output changes are expected for the Sportline version.

skoda-kushaq-sportline.jpg

The Czech brand could introduce a new eight-speed AT found in the recently facelifted Kushaq. The compact SUV is underpinned by Volkswagen Group’s MQB A0 IN architecture which also serves as the foundation for the Kushaq, Slavia, Taigun and Virtus. Feature availability is expected to mirror higher variants in the existing range as well.

Equipment such as a touchscreen infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, digital instrumentation, cruise control, wireless charging and connected car technology could be part of the package. Safety equipment list will comprise six airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring and rear parking assistance amongst others.

skoda Kylaq-5

More details regarding features, colours, pricing and variant positioning are expected closer to launch. India may not get the performance-based RS variant of the Kylaq as the SUV sits at the bottom of the brand’s portfolio. Currently, the Kylaq is priced between Rs. 7.5 lakh and Rs. 12.9 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available in Classic, Classic+, Signature, Signature+, Prestige and Prestige+ trim levels.

New Gen Hyundai i20 Fully Leaked – Revised Design & Big Cabin Updates

GaadiWaadi -

Next-Gen-Hyundai-i20-Leaked-.jpg

The new generation Hyundai i20 is expected to go on sale sometime next year in India with massive revisions inside and out

The new generation Hyundai i20 has leaked ahead of its global debut next month and the images reveal one of the biggest transformations in the premium hatchback’s history. Instead of sticking to a conventional hatchback shape, Hyundai appears to have pushed the new i20 towards crossover territory. The leaked photographs show chunkier bodywork, extensive black cladding, connected lighting elements and a completely redesigned cabin packed with new technology. The Indian-spec version is expected to arrive later with subtle changes.

The exterior design marks a dramatic departure from the current model. The front fascia features slim headlamp units connected by a black trim piece stretching across the width of the nose. Distinctive Y-shaped LED lighting signatures can be seen inside the headlamp clusters while the bumper gets a far more angular appearance. The nose appears taller and more upright than before and from certain angles, the design even bears similarities to compact crossovers.

The side profile reinforces that impression. Thick black plastic cladding surrounds the wheel arches, lower doors and bumpers creating a SUV-inspired look. The roofline remains familiar but the body surfaces appear sharper and more sculpted. Newly designed alloy wheels, a prominent shoulder line and a floating roof effect further differentiate the hatchback from the outgoing generation. The overall visual stance appears taller despite retaining compact dimensions.

Perhaps the most controversial styling element can be found at the rear. The leaked images show triangular tail lamp clusters connected by a slim horizontal red lighting strip running across the tailgate. A large black panel covers the width of the rear section while the bumper receives chunky silver inserts and a more upright design. Compared to the current i20, the rear end looks considerably more experimental.

The cabin receives an equally significant overhaul. The leaked interior image reveals a massive curved display stretching across much of the dashboard. Both the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen sit within a single housing and Hyundai’s latest three-spoke steering wheel design has also been introduced. Physical shortcut buttons remain below the screen while the centre console gains a more minimalist layout. Vertical air-conditioning vents, a rotary climate control dial and a two-tone black and beige colour scheme can also be seen.

Depending on the market and trim level, the hatchback could gain upgraded connected car functions, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, over-the-air software updates, wireless charging, enhanced voice controls and a suite of ADAS features globally. Under the bonnet, India could retain the familiar powertrain lineup.

Entry-level variants are expected to continue with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing around 83 hp and 114 Nm. Meanwhile, high-spec grades should carry forward the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor generating 120 hp and 172 Nm. Manual and automatic gearbox options are expected to remain available.

While several global markets are also expected to receive mild-hybrid technology paired with petrol engines, Brazil and certain international regions could additionally receive flex-fuel versions including a turbocharged 1.0-litre unit. Mild-hybrid assistance remains a possibility for India as well but official confirmation has not emerged yet.

12 New Hero Two-Wheelers Incoming As EV & Scooter Plans Accelerate

GaadiWaadi -

2025_Hero_Karizma_XMR_210-1.jpg

Hero MotoCorp likely plans to bring in new Vida electric scooters, new Xoom scooters And premium motorcycle offerings in FY27

Hero MotoCorp is preparing for an aggressive expansion phase in FY27 as the company moves its attention towards electric scooters, premium motorcycles and higher capacity two-wheelers. While commuter motorcycles still account for a significant portion of overall volumes, the country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer is investing heavily in new segments.

A major pillar centers on the Vida electric scooter range. Hero plans to substantially increase production capacity and is targeting nearly three times higher EV output before the end of calendar year 2026. The company expects electric scooters to contribute a much larger share of overall sales over the next few years and believes EVs could account for more than 50 per cent of total scooter volumes by the end of this decade.

Vida retail and service operations are being expanded region by region while localisation efforts are being accelerated simultaneously. Higher local sourcing levels are expected to reduce costs and improve supply chain efficiency as production volumes increase. Earlier, Hero had also outlined plans to achieve nearly 90 per cent PLI coverage for its electric vehicle portfolio before FY27.

vida-v2-1.jpg

The Xoom lineup has emerged as one of the brand’s main targets and production capacity is being significantly expanded in response to higher demand. The company is also increasing output for the Destiny range as industry trends indicate that scooters are accounting for a larger share of two-wheeler sales across India and Hero is looking to capitalise on that.

Hero is preparing more than 12 new launches across electric and internal combustion engine segments including flex-fuel models. Several of these upcoming products are expected to target the premium motorcycle category and the increasingly competitive 125 cc plus space. The company already entered middleweight space through products such as the Mavrick 440 and the Harley-Davidson X440 partnership.

Additional launches are expected to consolidate the portfolio further and improve Hero’s presence in categories traditionally dominated by rivals such as Royal Enfield, Honda, Bajaj and TVS. Hero MotoCorp sold close to 55 lakh motorcycles and more than 5.7 lakh scooters in the last financial year and quarterly profit during the final quarter of FY26 saw a substantial increase too.

It is expected to allocate around Rs. 1,500 crore in FY27 towards EV expansion, research and development, future mobility solutions and product development activities. Hero has also been expanding its footprint across several international markets while bringing in products to meet local requirements.

The first half of 2026 saw six mid-size SUV launches in India, including the all-new Kia Seltos, the new Skoda Kushaq, the all-new Renault Duster, the Maruti e Vitara, the new VW Taigun, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella. In the second half of the year, three more mid-size SUVs will be launched.

1. Tata Sierra.ev

Tata Motors has just confirmed plans to take the wraps off the Sierra.ev on 30 June. The company will likely launch the electric mid-size SUV in July. It plans to offer it in RWD and AWD configurations, with the latter aimed at outdoorsy customers who are into adventure touring.

The Tata Sierra.ev will have a more polished appearance at the front, but the rest of its exterior will look nearly the same as the regular Tata Sierra. Inside, visual changes are expected to be even fewer. The electric variant will offer a better ride quality, thanks to an independent rear suspension.

2. Nissan Tekton

Also expected to be launched in July is the Nissan Tekton, the Japanese automaker’s successor to the Nissan Terrano. The Nissan Tekton will be closely related to the all-new Renault Duster, utilising the same platform, engines, transmissions, and E/E architecture, which has been upgraded specially for India.

The Nissan Tekton will have the same shape as its corporate cousin from Renault, but it will still look visibly different with a sharper and more elegant design, with some cues borrowed from the Nissan Patrol. Its interior is likely to appear much more similar, though. A hybrid variant is expected to be introduced around early 2027.

3. New Honda Elevate

Sometime in August or September, Honda will likely launch a facelifted version of the Elevate, also known as the WR-V in some markets. The updated model will likely feature restyled bumpers, redesigned headlamps, tweaked tail lights, and new alloy wheels for a refreshed look.

No major design changes are expected on the inside, although new features such as electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a 360º camera system could be added to improve comfort and safety. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine should remain unchanged and be offered with the same 6-speed MT and CVT options.

2026-skoda-kushaq-facelift-launched-india.jpg

Skoda posted total domestic sales of 5,760 units in May 2026, registering a 15 per cent decline compared to 6,740 units sold during the same month last year

Skoda Auto India recorded domestic sales of 5,760 units in May 2026 by registering a 15 per cent decline compared to 6,740 units sold during the same month last year. Its volumes also dropped 16 per cent from 6,886 units posted in the previous month of April. The Czech brand’s notable growth from the Kushaq was offset by weaker contributions from the Kylaq, Slavia and Kodiaq.

The Kylaq remained Skoda’s most sold product despite a decline. The compact SUV posted sales of 3,443 units in May 2026 compared to 4,949 units during the corresponding month last year – resulting in a 30 per cent drop. Its monthly volumes also slipped by 16 per cent from 4,089 units recorded in April. Even with the decline, the Kylaq accounted for nearly 60 per cent of Skoda’s total domestic volume during the month.

The biggest positive bit came from the Kushaq. Sales more than doubled to 1,310 units from 644 units registered in May 2025 with a huge 103 per cent year-on-year increase. The midsize SUV competes against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Victoris, MG Astor and Toyota Hyryder amongst others.

The Kushaq is offered with a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine producing 115 hp and 178 Nm while higher variants use a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine generating 150 hp and 250 Nm. Transmission choices comprise six-speed manual, six-speed automatic and seven-speed DSG options. The Slavia sedan contributed 861 units in May 2026 against 937 units a year earlier.

The figures resulted in an 8 per cent decline. As opposed to many sedans that have witnessed notable contractions in recent years, the Slavia managed a modest 4 per cent increase over April 2026. Sharing its MQB-A0-IN platform and engine lineup with the Kushaq, the Slavia remains one of the few midsize sedans offering turbo petrol engines across the range.

At the premium end, the Kodiaq registered 146 units compared to 208 units in May 2025 with a 30 per cent decline. However, monthly volumes improved by 26 per cent over April. The flagship SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 204 hp and 320 Nm and is coupled with a seven-speed DSG transmission and all-wheel-drive system.

A closer examination of the numbers shows the Kylaq and Kushaq accounted for 4,753 units out of Skoda’s total tally of 5,760 units. The numbers mean more than 82 per cent of the brand’s domestic volume came from its two SUV offerings. The appreciable growth delivered by the Kushaq due to the arrival of the facelift also demonstrates that demand for midsize SUVs remains healthy.

Kia India posted domestic sales of 27,586 units in May 2026 by registering a 24 per cent increase compared to 22,315 units recorded during the same month last year while monthly volumes were also marginally higher than April 2026. The Seltos emerged as Kia’s largest selling model for the month. Sales climbed to 10,597 units from 6,082 units a year earlier – resulting in a substantial 74 per cent year-on-year jump. The midsize SUV also retained its position as Kia’s flagship volume generator despite intense competition from the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Victoris, Toyota Hyryder, etc.

Available with 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, the Seltos benefits from multiple transmission choices including manual, iMT, automatic and dual-clutch automatic options and is sold in an expansive range. The Carens lineup reported another appreciable month with sales reaching 6,208 units – up 37 per cent year-on-year. The addition of the Clavis EB has further expanded Kia’s reach in the family vehicle segment.

The biggest decline within the lineup came from the Syros. Its volumes dropped to 961 units from 3,611 units recorded a year ago with a 73 per cent decline. However, sales improved big time over April 2026 as the model registered a 73 per cent month-on-month increase.

New Renault Duster Test Mule Spied – What Could It Be?

GaadiWaadi -

new-renault-duster-hybrid-spied.jpg

The test prototype appears to be the hybrid version of the Renault Duster which is expected to go on sale in India this festive season

A camouflaged Renault Duster test mule has been spotted near Villupuram in Tamil Nadu not far from Renault-Nissan’s manufacturing operations. Could this be the strong hybrid version scheduled for India later this year? Several visual cues suggest the possibility cannot be ruled out as the rear section is closely related to the recently launched Duster.

The midsize SUV is already available in India with 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo petrol powertrains. The tailgate design, bumper treatment and Y-shaped tail lamp signature are unchanged. However, the camouflage pattern differs from the three-row Duster derivative spotted previously. More importantly, the rear profile itself looks different from the seven-seat model that is expected to arrive later this FY or the next.

Renault currently offers the new Duster in two turbo petrol forms. The entry-level version uses a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 100 hp and 160 Nm coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. The powertrain returns an ARAI-certified fuel economy figure of 19.41 kmpl.

Positioned above it is the 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine generating 163 hp and 280 Nm. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. The much-awaited strong hybrid Duster will arrive in India around the festive season potentially in October 2026. The hybrid setup will use a naturally aspirated 1.8-litre petrol engine working alongside two electric motors and a compact battery pack.

Combined system output will be around 160 hp. The configuration can propel the SUV on electric power alone at lower speeds while also reducing fuel consumption during urban driving. One electric motor primarily drives the wheels while the second supports energy management and battery charging functions. Such a setup has already been deployed in several Renault Group products internationally.

If the test mule is indeed the hybrid variant, Renault could gain a significant advantage in the midsize SUV segment. Hybrid technology is gradually attracting attention among customers seeking lower fuel bills without switching to a fully electric vehicle. While Toyota and Maruti Suzuki currently dominate the mainstream hybrid space, Renault could emerge as a new alternative with the Duster Hybrid.

The hybrid version is expected to carry over much of the equipment available on higher Duster variants. Features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, powered tailgate, dual-zone climate control, connected car technology and Level 2 ADAS functions are expected to be part of the package.

New Mahindra Scorpio-N (Facelift) Spied On Test Again, Launch Likely Soon

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra Scorpio N facelift1

New Mahindra Scorpio-N could be launched in India in the early part of the third quarter of the year

The Mahindra Scorpio-N, the second generation of the brand’s popular body-on-frame SUV, is set to turn four years old this month. Mahindra has started working on a facelift and is expected to roll it out soon.

Development of the new Mahindra Scorpio-N is in full swing ahead of launch, and recently, a prototype was spotted in Jaisalmer, possibly undergoing hot weather testing. Despite heavy camouflage, the prototype did reveal some design details of the upcoming model.

The facelifted Mahindra Scorpio-N appears to feature a new radiator grille with horizontal slots inspired by the Mahindra Vision.S concept introduced in August 2025. The rest of the front-end doesn’t seem to have any changes here, but the final version that will be launched will likely come with tweaked headlamps, a new lower air intake, and a redesigned bumper as well.

Mahindra could revise the exterior of the Scorpio-N with more changes, such as new 18-inch alloy wheels, a new rear bumper, and tweaked tail lights. The company may also introduce a new paint option to further distinguish the updated model from the current one. Inside, previous spy shots have revealed that the new Scorpio-N will feature a redesigned dashboard with new, horizontal AC vents instead of vertical ones in the centre.

The facelifted Scorpio-N will have a new, floating touchscreen infotainment system, possibly measuring 10.25 inches diagonally, up 2.25 inches from the current model’s dashboard-integrated unit. Another major upgrade expected on the tech front is a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, replacing the current model’s semi-digital unit, which consists of an analogue speedometer and tachometer and a 7-inch multi-information display.

Mahindra will likely carry over the engines and transmissions of the Scorpio-N without any changes. Currently, the company offers a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 200 hp and 370 Nm (with 6-speed MT)/380 Nm (with 6-speed AT) of torque; a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 130 hp and 300 Nm of torque, linked to a 6-speed manual transmission; and a higher-output 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 172 hp of power and 370 Nm (with 6-speed MT)/400 Nm (with 6-speed AT) of torque.
