Sonet And Carens Make Up Nearly A Third Of Kia’s Sales In September

GaadiWaadi -

kia sonet-7

Sonet and Carens outperform every other model in the Kia line-up, including the company’s Hyundai Creta rival – the Seltos

September was an average month for Kia this year, with sales remaining nearly flat compared to last year. Similarly, the Sonet and Carens continue being strong contributors to the brand’s sales in our market.

Kia sold 22,700 cars in India last month, which marked a 3% year-over-year decline. For reference, the company had delivered 23,523 cars in the same month last year. The Sonet and Carens alone contributed 72% of the brand’s sales in September 2025, up 2% from September 2024.

The Sonet, which is the entry point into the Kia line-up in India, recorded 9,020 units in sales in September 2025. Compared to September 2024 (10,335 units), the Hyundai Venue rival’s sales reduced by 13%.

The Carens, on the other hand, is in a stronger position this year. Kia delivered 7,338 units of the MPV in September 2025, 18% more than in September 2024 (6,217 units). The three-row model saw the highest growth across the Kia line-up last month. Interestingly, it has overtaken Seltos in sales this year.

The Seltos’ sales were down 16% in September this year. Kia delivered just 5,816 units of the premium SUV, as compared to 6,959 units in the same month last year. The newly launched Syros sub-4 metre SUV, positioned above the Sonet, isnt doing well. Kia was able to move just 465 units of this model last month.

Most of Kias imported models also performed poorly last month. The company delivered 61 units of the Carnival, which wasnt on sale in September last year. It wasnt able to sell a single unit of the EV6 last month, despite the facelift in March. In September last year, it delivered 12 units of the electric crossover.

The EV9, the flagship model in the Kia line-up globally, also logged zero in sales last month. Priced at 1.30 crore rupees (ex-showroom), the three-row SUV is even more expensive than the Mercedes EQS SUV.

Top 10 Hatchbacks Sep 2025 – Swift, Baleno, Tiago, Glanza, i10

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Swift hatch

The table of top 10 hatchbacks in September 2025 saw Maruti Suzuki Swift moving up to top ahead ahead of its siblings WagonR and Baleno

Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the hatchback sales standings in September 2025. While some of he popular offerings recorded impressive numbers, others did post YoY sales decline despite the arrival of the festive season. The Indo-Japanese brand held its ground while Tata Motors pulled off a rebound with the Tiago and Altroz.

At the top of the table, the Maruti Suzuki Swift sat in its familiar position as India’s highest-selling hatchback – recording 15,547 units in September. However, the figures marked a slight four per cent dip compared to the same month last year. Even with the decline, the Swift’s stronghold indicates its enduring popularity across demographics.

The latest generation has been well received by customers and compared to the previous month, the compact hatchback has moved up a position. Just behind it, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR continued its stellar run – registering 15,388 units and clocking a healthy 15 per cent growth over last year’s tally of 13,339 units.

9 Toyota Glanza (2%) 3,299 3,246
10 Maruti Suzuki S-Presso (4%) 1,774 1,708

Its space-efficient design, frugal engine and resale value have kept it a family favourite across the country. The Baleno followed next with 13,173 units – witnessing an 8 per cent year-on-year drop. While demand has softened slightly, it remains one of the most feature-rich hatchbacks in the premium space.

The biggest story of the month came from Tata Motors. The Tiago saw a dramatic 97 per cent jump in sales – climbing from 4,225 units last year to 8,322 this September. This surge can be attributed to the growing popularity of its electric version and Tata’s emphasis on safety as well as its VFM proposition in the compact hatch space.

The Altroz too saw impressive traction with a 51 per cent rise to 4,168 units as the timely arrival of the mid-life facelift has worked in its favour this festive period. On the other hand, the once-dominant Maruti Suzuki Alto continued its downward slide – falling 37 per cent year-on-year to 5,434 units last month.

Elsewhere, the Toyota Glanza posted steady numbers with a 2 per cent uptick to 3,299 units. Hyundai’s Grand i10 Nios and i20, however, saw drops of 17 and 12 per cent respectively while the Maruti S-Presso, despite being the most affordable car in India, closed the list with a modest 4 per cent gain at 1,774 units.

Mahindra To Launch A New SUV & A New EV Within Next 6 Months

GaadiWaadi -

mahindra XUv.e8 rendering

The facelifted Mahindra XUV700 is expected to launch early next year while the XEV 7e, XUV 3XO based EV and BE Rall-E are amongst the commonly spotted test mules

Mahindra & Mahindra has been testing a slew of new models across India as it looks to expand its ICE and electric portfolios. Recently, we have seen a pattern as the existing IC-engined SUVs have been receiving mid-cycle updates. The three-door Thar, Bolero and Bolero Neo are the prime examples and the strategy will stay put in the near future.

The homegrown manufacturer has been spotted testing the facelifted XUV 700 as well multiple times in recent times. It is expected to launch early next year with notable revisions inside and out. However, its existing powertrain options: the 2.2L mHawk diesel and the 2.0L mStallion petrol units will continue with same transmission choices.

Judging by the test mules, the 2026 Mahindra XUV 700 appears to draw plenty of inspiration from the XUV.e8 concept unveiled a while ago. It will, in turn, give rise to a three-row electric SUV which will also be based on the XUV 700 and we will come back to it later. The front fascia of the ICE XUV 700 facelift features a redesigned bumper and reworked headlamp clusters.

The SUV retains its flush door handles from the current model while the side profile appears largely unchanged but a new alloy wheel design will be part of the package. Although the overall proportions and glasshouse will likely stay the same, a few new exterior colour options are expected to spice things up.

The rear could also gain new tail lamps and bumper. The features list will likely boast a triple screen layout, more upscale surface trims, a suite of more advanced Level 2 ADAS tech and more. The XEV 7e will be amongst the next set of EVs heading to showrooms and it could utilise the battery packs found in the well received XEV 9e and BE 6.

Mahindra BE6 Rall-E

It could be introduced in the coming months. The BE 6 based Rall-E, a more hardcore off-road version, and the XUV 3XO compact SUV based zero-emission model could also arrive within the next year and a half. Mahindra showcased as many as four new concepts and a brand new platform in August. The Vision S concept based baby Scorpio has also been caught on camera doing trials but its launch is only likely in 2027.
