Popular tough SUVs help Mahindra become one of India’s leading automakers and record a decent growth in sales in July 2025

Unlike for other leading automakers in India, July was a great month for Mahindra. The company outranked Hyundai and Tata Motors and occupied the second spot on the sales chart. Its rugged ladder-frame models contributed to the majority of its sales.

The Mahindra Scorpio was the brand’s best-selling model last month, with 13,747 units delivered. Compared to the same month last year, when Mahindra shipped 12,237 units of the Scorpio, this number represents a 12% growth. The company sells two Scorpios in parallel: Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N.

The Thar, which is available in a regular 3-door version and a Roxx 5-door version, ranked second. It recorded the highest year-over-year growth across Mahindra’s SUV line-up in July 2025 – 125%, with the Roxx 5-door version expected to be the chief contributor. The company delivered 7,054 units of the Thar last month, as opposed to 4,385 units the same month last year, back when it used to offer only the regular 3-door version.

Mahindra Closes In On Maruti Suzuki In SUV Sales – Here’s How!

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra Scorpio N (2)

Mahindra posted 2,01,938 units in April-July FY26 period with an impressive YoY sales growth of 21.7 per cent in India

Mahindra & Mahindra is edging closer than ever to Maruti Suzuki in India’s utility vehicle market with the sales gap narrowing sharply in the current fiscal. In the first four months of FY26, the difference in volumes dropped to just 12,700 units from over 53,000 a year earlier. July alone saw Mahindra trail by just 2,900 units – the slimmest margin in nearly a decade.

It raises the prospect of a leadership change in a segment it dominated in the past. A diverse UV portfolio including the Thar, Scorpio N, Bolero, XUV 700, XUV 3XO and born electric series has powered Mahindra’s 21.7 per cent year-on-year growth to 2,01,938 units in April-July FY26 while Maruti’s utility vehicle sales slipped 6 per cent to 2,14,641 units.

Strategic feature packaging, SUV appeal across price points and a pipeline of aggressive launches have further strengthened M&M’s momentum. The recent arrival of the XEV 9e and BE6 has proven to add up volumes as some of the variants of the INGLO platform based zero-emission offerings demand a high waiting period.

Mahindra Vision Concepts

Doubling down on its product expansion, Mahindra will reveal new concepts this Independence Day at a grand event in Mumbai. One of the key showcases will be the close-to-production avatar of the Thar.e concept unveiled a while ago in South Africa as it will be one of the four concepts that have been teased along with a new platform.

They are Vision S, Vision T, Vision X and Vision SXT which in particular appears to be the evolved prototype of the Global Pik Up concept. The lifestyle pickup truck will be based on the Scorpio N. The Vision S concept looks to act as a precursor to the fully electrified version of the Scorpio N and we will have to wait and see what really pans out.

Nissan’s C-Segment SUV Spotted Testing

Nissan C-segment SUV front

Nissan’s C-Segment SUV Spotted Testing, Based On The Renault Duster

Nissan plans to launch a new C-segment SUV in India by mid-2026, based on the Renault Duster’s platform. Recently, test mules of the SUV have been undergoing road tests in heavy camouflage. This new model will rival the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, and Volkswagen Taigun.

Styling Highlights

Despite the camouflage, the test vehicle displayed several visible design cues. The front features a sculpted bonnet and a large Patrol-inspired grille. The flat, bold front fascia enhances the SUV’s strong road presence.

The side profile shows 5-spoke alloy wheels and flared wheel arches, giving it a muscular stance. The SUV’s silhouette closely resembles the one Nissan has been teasing. Rear design highlights include rectangular taillights, roof rails, and a shark-fin antenna.

Interior

Interior details remain undisclosed, but the new SUV may feature a layout similar to the new Renault Duster. Nissan is expected to offer a modern, functional dashboard. Updated infotainment and comfort features could also be included in the SUV.

Engine

Powertrain details remain unconfirmed, but the SUV will likely receive petrol-only options. The engine choices may include turbocharged units shared with the Renault Duster. A diesel variant seems unlikely at this stage.

Features

The test model appeared to lack ADAS features, a key tech in today’s segment. However, Nissan may include ADAS in production versions. This would help it better compete with feature-rich rivals in the C-segment SUV market.

Outlook

Nissan marks a strategic comeback in India’s fast-growing mid-size SUV market with this SUV. Based on a proven platform, it holds promise. If priced competitively, it could re-establish Nissan’s presence in the country.

GaadiWaadi -

2026-Toyota-Fortuner-Rendered.jpg

The next-gen Toyota Fortuner could make its global debut sometime next year, expected to receive significant changes inside and out

Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular SUV nameplates in the Indian market, and the current generation has been on sale since the year 2016. Down the line, the three-row SUV has got multiple updates, however, it is now due for a proper generation change. The next-generation model of the Fortuner is expected to debut globally sometime in 2026. While the launch timeline is still far away, let’s take a look at the top changes expected in the upcoming new-gen Toyota Fortuner.

1. Exterior Design

New gen toyota Hilux patent

The leaked image of the next-gen Hilux gives away some styling cues that could be shared with the Fortuner. The SUV will feature a revised front fascia with a new large grille, flanked by a set of sleek LED headlamps with integrated DRLs. The fresh front bumper will likely sport an aggressive stance, along with a sculpted bonnet. Apart from this, a new set of alloy wheels and a refreshed rear profile will be a part of the package. Overall, the design will be in line with the latest Toyota models sold in the overseas markets.

2. Interiors

The design patent leaks of the Hilux’s interiors shed some light on what to expect from the cabin layout of the new-gen Fortuner. For reference, the Hilux and Fortuner have always shared the interior layout, albeit with some minor changes. With the new-gen model, Fortuner will likely get a layered dashboard layout, however, it will continue with the classy appeal.

2026 Toyota Fortuner

The highlight will be a large free-standing infotainment, redesigned centre console with new gear shifter, updated AC vent design, digital instrument cluster and much more. The SUV is also expected to use more premium materials inside the cabin.

3. Features

The next-gen Fortuner is expected to take a big leap in the technology department. The new large infotainment system is expected to feature wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with connected car technology. The fully digital instrument cluster could be the same units seen on the Land Cruiser 250 Prado. In addition to this, the SUV will likely get an electronic parking brake, ADAS, head-up display, ventilated seats and more. Toyota can equip the new-gen Fortuner with a single-pane sunroof, however, nothing can be confirmed as of now.

4. Platform & Underpinnings

The current generation of the Fortuner and Hilux is based on the IMV platform. The new-gen model will most likely be underpinned by Toyota’s latest TNGA-F platform, which is also known as GA-F. This ladder frame chassis is used by multiple models in the brand’s line-up, including Land Cruiser 300, Land Cruiser 250, Tacoma pick-up truck and Lexus LX.

5. Powertrain

The next-gen Fortuner will continue to be powered by the familiar 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, paired with the 48V mild-hybrid system. The power output for this setup is rated at 201 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual and an automatic gearbox, with the option of 4WD. The 2.7-litre petrol engine is also expected to continue as it is.

The pre-bookings for the VinFast VF6 are already underway and it will launch alongside the larger VF7 in the coming weeks in India

VinFast is all pumped to officially launch a duo of electric SUVs in India. The brand has been showcasing its troops in roadshows following its debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and now dealerships are starting to get inaugurated. The pre-bookings for the VF6 and VF7 are underway online as well as through sales outlets across India.

Here we have showed you recent spy images of the VF6 which indicate plenty of details we already know. Scheduled for launch in the coming weeks, it will mark the Vietnamese brand’s entry alongside the larger VF7. The VF6 is assembled locally at VinFast’s new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and the production officially commenced last week.

It is expected to be competitively priced around Rs. 25 lakh for the base variant. The VF6 measures 4,238 mm in length and 1,820 mm in width which place it firmly in the midsize SUV category while a generous 2,730 mm wheelbase should offer good interior room and the boot volume stands at 423 litres. The styling features a coupe-like silhouette, signature V-shaped LED daytime running lights and a connected rear LED light bar.

VinFast-VF6-Electric-SUV-Spotted-Again-.jpg

On the inside, the VinFast VF6 comes with a minimalist layout centred around a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that integrates Google apps, voice assistant and wireless smartphone connectivity. There is no traditional instrument cluster as all driving information is relayed through the central display. Other amenities include ventilated seats, panoramic glass roof, dual-zone climate control and ambient lighting.

The VF6 will apparently be offered in an expansive range with two variants: Eco and Plus. Both use a 59.6 kWh lithium-ion battery but output varies as Eco produces 174 bhp and 250 Nm and the Plus makes 204 bhp and 310 Nm – both with front-wheel drive configuration. Claimed WLTP range peaks at 399 km for the Eco and 381 km for Plus. Charging from 20-80 per cent using a DC fast charger takes about 30 minutes.

Vinfast VF63

Some of the highlighting safety features are seven airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, front and rear parking sensors, and an extensive suite of level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and forward collision warning.

SUV Sales See A Dip For The First Time In More Than Five Years

GaadiWaadi -

Hyundai Creta SUV 1

SUV sales in India decline for the first time since the pandemic, while MPVs interestingly witness an increase in demand

Long driven by aspirations of status and the need to tackle poor road infrastructure, SUV demand has surged over the past decade. But after years of uninterrupted growth, the boom appears to have finally slowed—or at least hit pause.

According to a report from ETAuto, SUV sales in India were in the red for the first time in over five years in June. Our market recorded approximately 175,000 units in SUV sales in that month, 2.1% lower than in the same month last year. A senior auto industry official anonymously said that SUV sales registered just a single-digit growth (5.6%) for the first time in many years in Q1 FY2026 (572,000 units).

JATO Dynamics data shows 171,341 mainstream SUVs and 3,660 luxury SUVs were sold in our market in June this year. Compared to January this year, demand for the former has fallen significantly, by 19%. For reference, 211,946 units were delivered in the first month of the year, 40,605 units more than in June.

SUV sales are certainly moderating, and now the only thing that remains to be seen is the level at which they normalise. However, the slowdown in SUV sales shouldn’t be considered as a sign of declining popularity of the body style in its entirety. Major layoffs in the IT sector, geopolitical uncertainties, and macro challenges are also responsible. While the demand for SUVs is plateauing, MPVs are witnessing an uptick, as per the report.

Dwindling SUV sales might just be a blip on the radar rather than an actual change in the consumer trend. In fact, a slew of highly anticipated new launches are coming by next year, which could bring excitement back to the segment. Tata Motors is set to revive the legendary Sierra and launch a first-ever Sierra.ev at the end of this year. Maruti Suzuki will introduce a new Hyundai Creta rival on a budget, allegedly called the Escudo.

Mahindra Scorpio N SUV

In 2026, Mahindra plans to launch the next-gen Bolero in an all-new, proper SUV character and also the facelifted Thar and facelifted XUV700. Another major blockbuster next year will be the next-gen Kia Seltos. Renault has scheduled two major SUV launches – the third-gen Duster and a three-row SUV, with the latter rumoured to be a derivative of the Boreal. Nissan will launch the mechanical cousins of at least the latter, if not both, in the same year. These are just a few of many new SUVs coming to our market by next year, which could once again drive up SUV demand.
