New Tata Sierra will gain AWD treatment as early as next year courtesy of the EV while 7-seater and CNG iterations are also on the cards
With the new Sierra finally stepping into the spotlight, Tata Motors appears to be playing a long game rather than rushing variants into the market. The groundwork for multiple future derivatives is already in place including a three-row layout, an all-wheel-drive option and alternative fuel trims like CNG and possibly a hybrid.
A key part of this lies with Tata’s new ARGOS platform – short for All-terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable architecture. It has been engineered from the outset with modular flexibility and can accommodate petrol, diesel, CNG and hybrid propulsion systems without structural overhauls – giving Tata the freedom to scale the Sierra into several body and drivetrain configurations.
One of the most discussed possibilities is a 7-seater Sierra. Given ARGOS supports varying wheelbases and interior layouts – adding a third row isn’t a technical challenge as much as a product positioning decision. The newly launched Sierra has a long wheelbase and is one of the spacious Tata cars ever and additionally, it offers a large boot too – 622 litres in capacity.

Tata is reportedly waiting to gauge long term response to the standard five-seat version before committing to the extended format. If green lit, it could be positioned slightly below the Safari. Another talking point is all-wheel drive system. The AWD variant will be launched in the electric version of the Sierra – set to launch next year – first.
It could use the same dual motor configuration as the Harrier EV. The IC-engined Sierra is also expected to receive the AWD treatment within the next 12-18 months. Fuel options are also likely to expand beyond petrol and diesel in the future. With CNG slowly gaining traction in midsize SUV market, especially among high mileage users, the platform’s compatibility with gaseous fuel makes a Sierra CNG a feasible proposition.

Similarly, given Tata’s growing focus on electrification and hybrids, a strong hybrid version may not be too far off once the ICE range settles. The official reservations for the all-new Sierra will commence on December 16 while its customer deliveries are set to begin by the middle of January 2026. The full price list will be out next month too.
