Mahindra Launching A New Electric SUV Soon – What Could It Be?

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra XEV 7E EV

Mahindra to wrap up calendar year 2025 with one more EV launch, expanding its zero-emission portfolio to four models

Following the XUV400 in 2023, Mahindra launched the BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs earlier this year. The company plans to bring one more electric SUV to its showrooms this year. During a recent interaction with CNBC-TV18, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, the CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra’s Automotive Division, revealed plans to launch a new EV in November. Gollagunta did not disclose any details about the upcoming EV, though.

Mahindra has been working on several EVs, but two of them appear to be pretty close to commercial readiness, and the company has been testing both of them extensively on public roads. One is the XEV 7e, a normally-styled, three-row equivalent of the XEV 9e and a pure electric alternative to the XUV700.

The Mahindra XEV 7e, first previewed by the Mahindra XUV.e8 concept in August 2022, will be India’s first locally manufactured electric SUV offering three-row seating. The company could offer it in the same standard-range and long-range variants as the XEV 9e.

Although the former would offer limited practicality in the XEV 7e, considering the model’s heavier weight and higher seating capacity, it may still make the cut due to its significant cost advantages.

The XEV 7e standard-range could use a 228 hp/380 Nm rear motor and a 59 kWh LFP battery pack, while the XEV 7e long-range may have a 282 hp/380 Nm rear motor and a 79 kWh LFP battery pack. With the battery pack full, the former could travel close to 500 km and the latter somewhere around 600 km.

Mahindra may offer the XEV 7e with features like a frunk, a kick-activated power tailgate, a front passenger touchscreen, semi-adaptive dampers, a 1,400-watt, 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, 65-watt USB Type-C charging ports, AutoPark, Level 2+ advanced driver assistance systems, and seven airbags.

The second possible model is the XUV 3XO EV, a derivative of the XUV 3XO. The sub-4 metre electric SUV is expected to be launched with a 35 kWh battery pack. It would look close to its donor model, with visual differences limited to obvious tweaks such as a covered upper grille area and specially designed wheels, both aimed at improved aerodynamics. The XUV 3XO EV would directly compete with Tata Motors’ Nexon.ev.

Hyundai To Expand Its EV Line-Up To Five Models

GaadiWaadi -

Hyundai is planning to expand its EV lineup with the arrival of new models across different segment

Hyundai is planning an extensive portfolio of electrified vehicles for India, but the company is more inclined towards hybrids than pure electric models. The company will gradually build a line-up of five EVs by 2030.

At its first Investor Day in India this month, Hyundai said it will build a portfolio of five EVs by 2030. The company already offers two EVs in India at the moment – the Ioniq 5 and the Creta Electric. The latter is certain to remain in the line-up through the course of the decade. Thus, depending on whether the slow-selling Ioniq 5 continues its journey in our market, we may see 3-4 new EVs in Hyundai showrooms by 2030.

Hyundai has already confirmed its next EV will be a budget SUV, and reports suggest it will be the rumoured Tata Punch.ev rival codenamed ‘HE1i.’ At the Investor Day, Hyundai announced that it will launch this model in standard-range and long-range variants and that it will offer it with Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems.

New Hyundai EV

Unlike the Creta Electric, the HE1i will be localised right down to the cell level, which will allow Hyundai to price it very competitively. The company will likely use LFP cells sourced from Exide Energy in this model.

Hyundai has not talked about the other future EVs it plans to bring to Indian showrooms by 2030. Last year, a report from Autocar Professional said that the company was evaluating pure electric variants of the Grand i10 Nios and Venue, presumably the next generation models of both cars. The next-gen Venue (codename: QU2i) is coming in November, while the next-gen i10 (codename: Ai4) is scheduled to arrive in late 2027.

The next-gen Bayon (codename: BC4i) is planned to be launched in India in 2026, and we think that Hyundai could offer a pure electric variant of this model as well. The potential Hyundai Bayon EV could be positioned against the Tata Curvv.ev.

Hyundai is focusing on hybrid cars much more strongly. The company plans to launch eight hybrid models in our market by 2030, aiming to capture a new and fast-growing electrified vehicle segment.

3 Hotly Anticipated New Midsize SUVs Arriving Soon In India

GaadiWaadi -

Dacia Duster

The midsize SUV segment will see new arrivals from Tata,  Kia and Renault within the next 6 to 9 months in India

The midsize SUV space is about to get a serious shake-up. What has long been Hyundai Creta territory is now drawing competition from all directions as manufacturers line up new rivals with latest design philosophies and loaded feature lists. Despite being nearly a decade old, the Creta still sets the tone for the segment but the coming years could finally see its dominance tested.

The next set of action in the segment will come from Tata Motors, Kia and Renault. Tata is set to expand its portfolio with the production-ready Sierra which will sit alongside the Curvv to cover a wider price band. Meanwhile, Renault is gearing up for a major comeback with an all-new Duster – the very SUV that once sparked India’s midsize SUV craze. Here we have listed them:

1. New Gen Tata Sierra:

2025-Tata-Sierra-ICE-2.jpg

Tata Motors is preparing to revive the legendary Sierra nameplate in early 2026, this time as a modern all-electric SUV. The Sierra EV will launch first offering two battery pack options with a range of over 500 km between charges. Once the electric version hits the market, Tata is expected to follow it up with an internal combustion variant powered by a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine alongside the proven 2.0-litre diesel.

2. Second Gen Kia Seltos:

The second generation Kia Seltos is steadily moving toward its market debut with multiple test sightings confirming that development is in its final stages. Expected to reach showrooms in the first half of 2026, the SUV will feature a complete design revamp with redesigned bumpers, new headlamp and DRL arrangements, new alloy wheel patterns and updated tail-light graphics. Inside, Kia will look to up its premium status even more.

3. New Gen Renault Duster:

Renault is all set to bring back the Duster nameplate early next year, this time based on the latest-generation global model. The SUV will sit on the heavily localised CMF-B platform which will also underpin a Nissan-badged counterpart in 2026. At launch, the new Duster will more likely offer two petrol engine options.

A hybrid powertrain is expected to be added later in its lifecycle. A three-row, seven-seater version is also on the cards – slated to arrive by FY27 – further strengthening Renault’s footprint in the midsize SUV space.

Hyundai To Launch 8 Hybrid Cars In India – What They Could Be?

GaadiWaadi -

2026-Kia-Palisade-Hybrid-SUV-2.jpg

Hyundai’s electrification efforts in India won’t be limited to just pure electric cars, with hybrids serving as a bridge between ICE and BEVs

As part of plans to invest 45,000 crores by March 2030, Hyundai has confirmed it will bring hybrid cars to India. These electrified models would be part of the 26 launches it has lined up for our market.

Hyundai has been making hybrid cars since 2009, but it has entirely avoided bringing them to India so far. Now, it has announced not one but eight hybrid cars for our market, spread across various segments and scheduled for launch by March 2030. The company has yet to announce the details of these models, but we already have a fair idea of the line-up.

While most automakers follow a top-down approach when it comes to introducing hybrid cars, Hyundai appears to have a rather aggressive plan. Media reports suggest the company will directly start offering the technology in locally manufactured models, possibly based on an all-new 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and starting with the next-gen Bayon (codename: BC4i) that will compete with the Maruti Fronx.

2024 Hyundai Bayon Facelift_-2
Hyundai Bayon

It would not be hard to imagine the i20 also adopting the same all-new hybrid system as the next-gen Bayon when it moves into its fourth generation. The next-gen i20 is expected to hit European showrooms in 2026, but India will likely have to wait until 2027 for this model. The second-gen Venue, scheduled to be launched next month, may adopt the same hybrid powertrain with its facelift later this decade.

Hyundai would need a different, more powerful hybrid system in larger models, such as the next-gen Creta (SX3) due in 2027 and the Alcazar successor, possibly the larger XUV700 rival codenamed ‘Ni1i’ that will follow later. The company could adapt its existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine for this application.

Upcoming Hyundai hybrid Cars

Hyundai has also confirmed plans to launch an MPV and an off-road SUV, and it’s safe to assume it would offer the larger electrified powertrain in these models as well. The eighth hybrid model for India could be the second-generation Palisade, rumoured to arrive in India in 2028.

Already on sale globally, the latest Palisade debuts an all-new hybrid system that combines a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 258 hp and 353 Nm of torque with an electric motor that generates 72 hp and 264 Nm of torque. This combination provides 329 hp of total power and 460 Nm of total torque and delivers a range of 1,015 km, which, given the 72-litre capacity of the vehicle’s fuel tank, translates to a fuel economy of 14.1 km/l.

Creta, Venue, Exter Contribute 70% To Hyundai Sales In September 2025

GaadiWaadi -

SUVs remain key contributors to Hyundai’s sales in India, with locally manufactured models priced under 15 lakh (ex-showroom) in the lead

It is no news that SUVs are driving growth at Hyundai, a brand mainly known for hatchbacks and sedans in India until it launched the Creta ten years ago. In September this year, SUVs contributed to nearly a third of the brand’s sales, with the Creta, Venue, and Exter in the lead.

Hyundai offers one of the widest car line-ups in India, comprising ten models. The company sold 51,547 cars in our market in September 2025, marking a 1% year-over-year growth (September 2024: 51,101 units).

Six of the ten models Hyundai sells in India are SUVs, and these models contributed 37,313 units or 72% to its September 2025 sales. The Exter, Venue, and Creta alone accounted for 35,988 units or 70% of the total sales.

Sonet And Carens Make Up Nearly A Third Of Kia’s Sales In September

GaadiWaadi -

kia sonet-7

Sonet and Carens outperform every other model in the Kia line-up, including the company’s Hyundai Creta rival – the Seltos

September was an average month for Kia this year, with sales remaining nearly flat compared to last year. Similarly, the Sonet and Carens continue being strong contributors to the brand’s sales in our market.

Kia sold 22,700 cars in India last month, which marked a 3% year-over-year decline. For reference, the company had delivered 23,523 cars in the same month last year. The Sonet and Carens alone contributed 72% of the brand’s sales in September 2025, up 2% from September 2024.

The Sonet, which is the entry point into the Kia line-up in India, recorded 9,020 units in sales in September 2025. Compared to September 2024 (10,335 units), the Hyundai Venue rival’s sales reduced by 13%.

The Carens, on the other hand, is in a stronger position this year. Kia delivered 7,338 units of the MPV in September 2025, 18% more than in September 2024 (6,217 units). The three-row model saw the highest growth across the Kia line-up last month. Interestingly, it has overtaken Seltos in sales this year.

The Seltos’ sales were down 16% in September this year. Kia delivered just 5,816 units of the premium SUV, as compared to 6,959 units in the same month last year. The newly launched Syros sub-4 metre SUV, positioned above the Sonet, isnt doing well. Kia was able to move just 465 units of this model last month.

Most of Kias imported models also performed poorly last month. The company delivered 61 units of the Carnival, which wasnt on sale in September last year. It wasnt able to sell a single unit of the EV6 last month, despite the facelift in March. In September last year, it delivered 12 units of the electric crossover.

The EV9, the flagship model in the Kia line-up globally, also logged zero in sales last month. Priced at 1.30 crore rupees (ex-showroom), the three-row SUV is even more expensive than the Mercedes EQS SUV.
