Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will go on sale next month in India and it will utilise a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh battery pack
Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce the e Vitara as its first midsize electric SUV for India and one of its biggest highlight is its safety kit. Long before hitting Nexa showrooms next month, the electric SUV proved its capability by scoring a clean 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP. With 31.49 points in adult protection and 43 points in child safety assessments.
Matching its safety-first approach is a long list of modern assistance systems. Maruti Suzuki has equipped the e Vitara with an extensive Level 2 ADAS package featuring Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Assist, Forward Collision Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control that can modulate speeds even around curves.
Additional precautions such as Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, multi-collision braking, a 360-degree camera setup, disc brakes on all four wheels, ISOFIX mounts and a dedicated SOS function round out its protection suite. Behind the scenes, Maruti has also been upgrading its ecosystem to support customers transitioning into electric ownership.
The brand has strengthened its own charging footprint too – installing over 2,000 chargers at dealerships and service centres nationwide. To prove the e Vitara’s long distance capability, four units were flagged off from Gurugram and dispatched to different corners of the country, demonstrating a real-world driving range of up to 543 km on one full charge.
Production for foreign markets has already begun at Maruti’s Gujarat facility with export batches shipped over the past few months. For India, the e Vitara will be offered with two BYD-sourced LFP battery packs – a 48.8 kWh option and a larger 61.1 kWh unit. DC fast charging enables a 0–80 per cent refill in roughly 50 minutes.

Power figures vary depending on the chosen pack. The smaller battery pairs with a 144 PS motor while the bigger unit produces 174 PS, with both variants generating 192.5 Nm of torque. Built on the Heartect-e platform, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will spawn a Toyota sibling in the form of Urban Cruiser BEV.
On the inside, the five-seater midsize electric SUV gets premium features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster, powered front seats, automatic climate control and seven airbags.
