JSW To Launch Jetour T2-Based Plug-In Hybrid SUV In India

JSW to launch locally assembled, Jetour T2-based plug-in hybrid SUV in India

JSW Motors Limited, the independent passenger vehicle division of the JSW Group, is preparing to launch its first model for the Indian market later this year. The model will be based on the Jetour T2 SUV, though it will be sold under the JSW name rather than carrying Jetour branding.

The upcoming SUV will be assembled in India at JSW’s new greenfield facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. Market introduction is expected in the third quarter of 2026. The product will be positioned separately from the JSW MG Motor India joint venture, reflecting JSW’s intent to establish its own presence in the passenger vehicle segment.

While the T2 is offered with conventional petrol engines in other markets, India is expected to receive the plug-in hybrid i-DM version, in line with JSW’s stated focus on sustainable mobility solutions. The hybrid system pairs a 1.5-litre engine with an electric drive unit. Internationally, both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations are offered, though JSW has not yet confirmed which will come to India.

The T2 features a boxy and upright design theme similar to other off-road-inspired SUVs. It uses a monocoque platform rather than a ladder-frame structure. The five-seat version measures roughly 4.7 metres long and 2 metres wide, giving it a footprint larger than the Tata Safari. A longer seven-seat version exists globally, but JSW has not indicated whether it will be considered for India.

Pricing and segment placement for India remain unconfirmed. For reference, the five-seat front-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid T2 retails at around Rs. 35 lakhs in the UAE (AED 1,44,000). Final pricing in India will depend on localisation levels, drivetrain choice, feature packaging and taxation.

Jetour was launched in 2018 by Chinese manufacturer Chery and operates primarily in China, as well as select markets in the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America. The brand’s portfolio is mainly SUV-oriented, although some rebadged hatchbacks have been sold in the past.

With its first launch planned for 2026, JSW aims to enter the passenger vehicle market with a locally assembled plug-in hybrid SUV. Additional details regarding specifications, pricing and dealer rollout are expected closer to the market introduction.

2026 Skoda Kushaq Facelift Teased Again – New Design & DRLs Revealed

2026 Skoda Kushaq Facelift Teased

2026 Skoda Kushaq facelift will be introduced soon in India and it will get a host of revisions inside and out

Skoda Auto India is looking to bring in the updated Kushaq sooner rather than later and the midsize SUV has once again surfaced through official teasers. The facelift is part of Skoda’s step-by-step upgrade plan for its MQB-A0 IN based models. One of the most noticeable changes lies in the exterior lighting treatment revealed through the latest teaser.

The refreshed Kushaq gains redesigned headlamps paired with new LED daytime running lights that are linked through segmented lighting elements as seen in the brand’s global models. The front grille has also been reworked while the bumper receives angular silver accents for a more premium look. Skoda’s signature badge continues to sit on the bonnet.

At the rear, the facelift introduces a major visual update. The traditional Skoda badge is replaced by an illuminated ‘SKODA’ lettering stretched across the tailgate. It is complemented by split LED tail- amps that echo the segmented lighting theme seen at the front. Skoda has not teased the interior of the new Kushaq yet.

Higher trims are expected to debut a panoramic sunroof addressing a long-standing feature gap. Updates are also likely for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system including refreshed graphics and the screens could grow in size as well. Reports indicate that Skoda may introduce a rear-seat massage function along with enhancements to the air-conditioning system.

Skoda has already confirmed that Level 2 ADAS will be gradually introduced across all MQB-A0 IN products via facelifts and the Kushaq is expected to lead the way. In addition, 1.5 TSI variants are tipped to gain rear disc brakes but the six-speed manual transmission may not be available in the larger gasoline mill.

Under the hood, the Kushaq facelift will retain its existing engine lineup. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor will continue to produce 115 PS and 178 Nm while the 1.5-litre TSI will deliver 150 PS and 250 Nm. Transmission options are expected to remain unchanged with a six-speed manual in 1.0L, six-speed torque converter automatic and seven-speed DSG though speculation around a possible eight-speed automatic persists.

Since its launch in 2021, the Kushaq has been instrumental in boosting Skoda’s volumes in India. Together with the Slavia and Kylaq, it forms the backbone of the brand’s locally developed portfolio. These models helped Skoda Auto Volkswagen India record its highest-ever domestic sales of 1.17 lakh units in 2025.

Tata Avinya Program Gathers Pace As Brand Prepares New Flagship EV

GaadiWaadi -

Tata-Avinya-X-1.jpg

The production version of the first model from the Tata Avinya series will be introduced this calendar year in India

Tata Motors is laying the groundwork for its flagship electric vehicle programme yet with the Avinya nameplate set to be the flag-bearer in the future EV plans. Confirmed recently, the first production-ready Avinya model is scheduled to arrive before the end of this calendar year after multiple speculations around its launch timeline being postponed.

To support the transition, the company has committed a substantial investment of around Rs. 16,000 to Rs. 18,000 crore between FY25 and FY30. The said capital will be channelled into new EV platforms, new vehicle technologies, supplier localisation and a rapidly expanding charging ecosystem. The Avinya series will be positioned as a standalone portfolio with Tata’s future-facing design and software-led architecture.

Before Avinya takes centre stage, Tata will strengthen the bridge between its mass-market EVs and premium models. Products such as the Sierra EV, arriving in early 2026, along with the updated Punch EV, will play a crucial role in this transition. Tata’s confidence stems from its strong performance in India’s electric passenger vehicle space over the past five years.

The Avinya range, however, will follow a very different philosophy. The first model is expected to be either a premium SUV or a sportback-style vehicle with additional body styles planned over time. Unlike Tata’s existing products, Avinya vehicles are likely to be sold through a blended retail model that combines physical experience centres with a digital-first buying phase.

The Avinya models will not be restricted to a single battery chemistry – allowing the brand to evaluate alternatives beyond LFP depending on range expectations, charging speeds, safety requirements and packaging. Development is also being supported by technical collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover, particularly in software integration and other areas.

Tata-Avinya-X-2.jpg

Tata aims to establish nearly 40,000 charging points by 2027 through partnerships under an open collaboration framework. Further ahead, the company has outlined a vision of reaching one million chargers nationwide. The company has already achieved over 50 per cent domestic value addition at the tier-3 supplier level helping it qualify for PLI incentives.

Used EV batteries are being repurposed for renewable energy storage – adding a circular economy dimension to the strategy. With its EV market share currently hovering between 40 and 45 per cent, Tata Motors believes the Avinya programme could help push that figure closer to the 45–50 per cent range in the coming years.

4 Upcoming New Honda Cars In India This Year

GaadiWaadi -

2023 Honda ZR-V

Honda new product offensive in India to kick off this year, with four models priced from around 12 lakh rupees (ex-showroom) to potentially as high as around 75 lakh rupees (ex-showroom)

Under pressure due to serious competition in many of its key markets, Honda has decided to strengthen its focus on India to unlock new growth. The company has lined up ten launches this decade and will conduct four of them this year itself.

1. Honda Prelude

The Honda Prelude is a compact sports coupe and directly competes with the BMW 2 Series Coupe, which we only get in the full-blown M variant in India. Unlike the Bimmer, though, it is more about style and comfort than sheer performance or driving pleasure.

Honda Prelude

The Honda Prelude is a hybrid model powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces 104 kW (139 hp) and 182 Nm of torque and an electric motor that develops 135 kW (181 hp) and 315 Nm of torque. This hybrid system delivers a fuel economy of up to 23.6 km/l, as per WLTC. Honda will import the Prelude as a CBU from Japan, so we expect the pricing to be steep, around 75 lakh rupees (ex-showroom).

2. New Honda Elevate

The Honda Elevate was already far less appealing than its rivals when it arrived in 2023, and this year, the competition is set to get significantly more intense due to the all-new Tata Sierra, all-new Kia Seltos, all-new Renault Duster, Nissan Tekton, new Skoda Kushaq, and new VW Taigun. Honda will roll out a facelift for the Elevate in the second half of the year to make it more appealing.

2025 Honda Elevate New Grille Black Edition

The Elevate is expected to get redesigned bumpers and grilles, tweaked headlamp and tail lamp graphics, and new 17-inch alloy wheels. Honda may introduce new features like a panoramic sunroof, a 360º camera system, and ventilated front seats with electric adjustment on the driver’s side with the mid-cycle refresh. No mechanical changes are expected to be part of this update.

3. New Honda City

2025 honda city

Honda is unlikely to launch the next-gen City in India until mid-2028 and will roll out a second facelift for the current model later this year to remain relevant in the segment in the meantime. The company may bring minor changes to the exterior, such as new grilles, new 16-inch alloy wheels, and new paint options. Interior changes could be limited to new upholstery and trim. There won’t be any changes to the engine or transmissions with this update.

4. Honda ZR-V

The Honda ZR-V is the company’s new global C-segment SUV positioned below the Honda CR-V.  It measures 4,570 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height and has a 2,655 mm wheelbase.

Honda ZR-V

Honda manufactures the ZR-V in petrol and petrol-electric hybrid variants and will offer only the latter in India. The company uses the same hybrid powertrain as the Prelude in the ZR-V. For obvious reasons, this system delivers a lower fuel economy in the SUV – up to 22.1 km/l, also as per WLTC. The company will import the ZR-V also as a CBU from Japan and may price it around 50 lakh (ex-showroom).

1. MG Majestor

Showcased at Auto Expo 2025, the MG Majestor is the facelifted version of the MG Gloster, and it will be launched on 12 February. New split headlamps, a larger radiator grille, chunky skid plates and rocker panels, and connected tail lights are among its key exterior changes.

We expect it to announce the prices and commence deliveries in February.

3. JSW T2

JSW Motors Limited, which is separate from the JSW MG Motor joint venture, will launch a rebadged version of the T2 plug-in hybrid SUV from Chinese conglomerate Chery’s Jetour brand as its first model in India in June. It will be an off-road-oriented SUV that will compete mainly with the Toyota Fortuner and MG Majestor.

Jetour T2

In China, the Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with two or three electric motors, depending on the trim. It can travel up to 162 kilometres in EV mode, as per WLTC. JSW Motors Limited will import knocked-down kits from China and assemble them at its factory in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. The company plans to price it around 45 lakh (ex-showroom).

4 New Hyundai Cars Likely To Launch In India This Year

GaadiWaadi -

2024 Hyundai Bayon Facelift_-3

Hyundai to cover multiple segments with new budget and premium cars this year, with the first launch expected in the second quarter of the year

In addition to the usual model year enhancements, Hyundai plans to introduce four new cars in India this year. The company will cater to both budget and premium segments with the upcoming models.

Following its three-year product lifecycle like in global markets, Hyundai will roll out a facelift for the sixth-generation Verna this year. The company launched the original model in March 2023 and will likely launch the updated model as early as April this year.

The new Verna will have a sharper and more aggressive front inspired by the latest Sonata and come with several new features, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with customisable modes and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, both featuring the new ccNC software. It is unlikely to see any mechanical changes.

Later in the second quarter of the year, Hyundai will give the Exter its mid-cycle facelift. There have been rumours of the new Exter getting a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster. The updated model should also feature redesigned bumpers, tweaked headlamps and tail lamps, and new 15-inch alloy wheels. Hyundai is unlikely to make any changes to the engines or transmissions of the Exter with the facelift.

Sometime in June or July, Hyundai will likely launch the new Ioniq 5, which it revealed internationally way back in March 2024. The facelifted model features subtle design changes and gains a rear windshield wiper and washer, Digital Key 2, a new, three-spoke steering wheel, and a ccNC-based 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment system. A larger, 84 kWh battery pack will improve the driving range.

This will not be the current model sold internationally but the upcoming, second-generation model that is currently under development. The Bayon will be a sub-4 metre SUV positioned above the Venue, featuring a sportier and more technical-looking exterior. Based on the same platform as the next, fourth-generation i20’s platform, it will debut Hyundai’s hybrid-ready 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.
