Bajaj Chetak C25 is equipped with a 2.5 kWh battery pack delivering an IDC-certified range of 113 km and uses a hub-mounted motor

Bajaj Auto has already begun retail sales of the new Chetak C25 electric scooter and the company has now linked the launch with a high-profile celebration. Each player from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women’s cricket squad, winners of the latest Women’s T20 League season, will receive a Chetak C25 from the manufacturer.

The announcement effectively closes Bajaj Chetak’s season-long association with the Bengaluru franchise where the brand operated as the team’s Official Ride Partner. Positioned as the most accessible model in the Chetak portfolio, the C25 has been developed mainly for urban commuting and everyday use.

It sits below the Chetak 30 and 35 Series and it appeals to customers looking for a practical and no-nonsense electric scooter. Powering the Chetak C25 is a 2.5 kWh battery pack delivering an IDC-certified range of 113 km. A hub-mounted motor handles propulsion while top speed is capped at 55 kmph. Charging is managed through an off-board 750 W unit with 0–80 per cent achievable in around two and a half hours.

Sales and deliveries are currently underway in select cities with nationwide availability being expanded in phases.

Despite being the entry point into the Chetak range, the C25 retains a metal body and carries an IP67 rating for its battery pack. Braking duties are handled by a front disc and rear drum setup while a ground clearance of 170 mm and a compact turning radius. Feature highlights include hill hold assist, reverse mode, Eco and Sport ride modes, guide-me-home lighting and basic connected functions.

BYD Working On A New India-Specific Model, Atto 2 EV Coming?

GaadiWaadi -

BYD-Bao-5_-2.jpg

Chinese automaker BYD is not planning full-scale manufacturing in India yet but open to tweaking products to the taste of local consumers

BYD is finding success with its cars in almost every major market it enters, but India isn’t one of them. Despite the geopolitical differences between India and China proving to be a roadblock in scaling up its investments, the company is determined to grow.

Speaking to Agence France-Presse (AFP) on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in the UAE recently, Ke Li, the Executive Vice President of BYD, revealed that the company is working on an India-spec model. Li affirmed India’s significance in BYD’s global business and said that the company needs to make more efforts.

BYD will launch “a different model adapted to India” and is working on its design, Li said. The company may not develop an India-specific car from scratch, as that would entail major investments and may not make much economic sense without local manufacturing, for which the company has no plans at the moment.

BYD-Atto-2-1.jpg

A recent Bloomberg report led to rumours in the media that BYD will build a new assembly plant in India, but Li revealed that the company has no such plans. Perhaps, it is looking at modifying an existing model to the needs and preferences of Indian customers.

The BYD Atto 2 would be a fitting choice to unlock new growth in India. It is a mid-size SUV measuring 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height. Called ‘Yuan Up’ in BYD’s home market, the Atto 2 has a 2,620 mm wheelbase.

The Atto 2 is available in pure electric and plug-in hybrid variants, and the former could be the one that makes it to India. Packing up to 150 kW (201 hp) and 310 Nm of torque, it hits 0 to 100 km/h as quickly as 7.9 seconds and achieves a top speed of 99 km/h. It is available with multiple LFP battery pack options with an energy storage capacity of up to 64.8 kWh and can travel up to 430 kilometres on a single charge, as per WLTP.

BYD has been testing the Atto 2 on public roads in India since July and could introduce it in the second half of the year. The company may import CKD kits of the EV from China and assemble them at its factory in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. If launched, the BYD Atto 2 will compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric, VinFast VF 6, and Mahindra BE 6.

GaadiWaadi -

Tata-Nexon-7-Lakh-Sales.jpg

Combined PV and EV wholesales of Tata stood at 1.71 lakh units during the quarter with a massive 22 per cent year-on-year increase

Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle and electric vehicle division registered its best ever quarterly performance in Q3 FY26 courtesy of higher volume sales, demand created by GST 2.0 tax relaxation and good reception for its popular models. Combined PV and EV wholesales stood at 1.71 lakh units during the quarter with a massive 22 per cent year-on-year increase.

Revenues for the quarter increased steeply to Rs. 15,300 crore – up 24 per cent YoY. However, profitability held up under strain due to higher fixed costs, commodity headwinds and lower realisations. On a year-to-date basis, Tata Motors PV and EV business reported revenues of Rs. 39,700 crore leading to a growth of 10.6 per cent. The domestic PV and EV business generated positive free cash flow of Rs. 300 crore in Q3 FY26. The company ended the quarter with a cash balance of Rs. 8,900 crore against gross debt of Rs. 3,800 crore with a net cash position of Rs. 5,100 crore.

From a market standpoint, Tata Motors strengthened its position in the domestic passenger vehicle space. Vahan-based market share rose to 13.8 per cent in Q3 FY26 – up 100 basis points quarter-on-quarter as it secured the second position overall. In the EV segment, Tata continued to dominate with a market share of 43.6 per cent – supported by the highest-ever quarterly EV registrations.

Tata Punch (2)

Alternative powertrains remained a key growth supporter too as the EV penetration reached 14 per cent during the quarter while CNG models accounted for 28 per cent of volumes. The quarter also saw a flurry of product actions. Tata launched the all-new Sierra which received over 70,000 confirmed bookings on the first day itself and it commands a waiting period of up to 4 months.

The portfolios of the Harrier and Safari were expanded to include petrol variants powered by the new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo GDi engine. The refreshed Punch was also introduced with updates inside and out while the company re-entered the fleet segment with petrol and twin-cylinder CNG versions of the Xpres based on the Tigor compact sedan.

Going ahead, Tata Motors expects growth to accelerate with new launches as the facelifted Punch EV, Sierra EV and Avinya are waiting in the pipeline.

Top 10 Most Sold 2W Brands In Jan 2026 – TVS, Bajaj, Ather, Hero, Ola, River

GaadiWaadi -

TVS-Orbiter-1.jpg

In January 2026, TVS led the electric two-wheeler segment ahead of Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Hero MotoCorp’s Vida

The electric two-wheeler segment opened the new calendar year well by posting appreciable year-on-year growth and legacy OEMs such as TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto were able to make a big impact while several younger EV-based companies recorded unstable performances amid ever intensifying competition across different price points.

TVS Motor Company emerged as the market leader in the first month of new CY. The Hosur-based manufacturer retailed 34,440 electric two-wheelers during the month – registering a 43.3 per cent year-on-year growth and a healthy 36.6 per cent month-on-month rise. The continued good reception for the iQube and Orbiter ranges along with expanding distribution and financing options helped TVS maintain its dominant position in the fast-evolving EV space.

Bajaj Auto consolidated its second position with sales of 25,520 units with an 18.9 per cent annual growth and a notable 34.7 per cent sequential increase. The demand for the Chetak electric scooter has been leveraged by regular expansion of the range and the arrival of the most affordable variant recently will only aid its cause to garner volumes.
