2026 Renault Duster India Launch On March 17

2026 Renault Duster

New Renault Duster returns to India with turbo engines and hybrid

Renault is set to reintroduce the Duster in India with its third-generation model, scheduled for launch on March 17, 2026. The midsize SUV has already begun reaching dealerships nationwide for public display and test drives, while customer deliveries are expected to start in April. The new model marks the return of the Duster nameplate to the Indian market after it was phased out in 2022.

The comeback is strategically important for Renault as the company looks to strengthen its position in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment.

At launch, the new Duster will be offered with two turbo-petrol engines. The entry-level option is a 1.0-litre turbocharged unit producing 100 HP, shared with the Kiger. Buyers can also opt for a more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine generating 163 HP, which Renault claims will be among the strongest in its class.

Both engines will come paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.3-litre motor will additionally get a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Renault also plans to introduce a strong-hybrid petrol version around the Diwali festive season in 2026. This setup combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and hybrid starter generator, drawing power from a 1.4 kWh battery pack. The total combined output is expected to be about 160 HP.

The equipment list includes a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity, a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control and powered ventilated front seats. A powered tailgate is also part of the package.

Safety equipment includes six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera system, parking sensors at both ends, tyre pressure monitoring, electronic parking brake, disc brakes on all wheels and Level 2 ADAS functionality.

The upcoming Renault Duster is likely to be priced between Rs. 10 lakhs and Rs. 20 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will compete in the midsize SUV segment against models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and the upcoming Tata Sierra.

New Tata Electric SUV Arriving Soon With Likely Dual Motor AWD Layout

Tata-Sierra-Electric-EV-Teased.jpg

Tata Sierra EV has been confirmed to launch in the second quarter of CY 2026

Tata Motors offers the widest line-up of electric cars in India, comprising six passenger models. Soon, it will bring its seventh electric car to its showrooms, a model that will compete with the Mahindra BE 6 – the Tata Sierra.ev.

When Tata Motors unveiled the all-new ICE Sierra in November last year, it almost entirely revealed the exterior design of the first-ever Sierra.ev as well. The company showed the front and rear of the electric variant in a promotional video tracing the Sierra’s legacy.

The Tata Sierra.ev will be immediately recognisable from a unique front-end designed to look sleek and minimalist, highlighting the zero-emission nature of its powertrain. The upper part of its front fascia will be almost entirely body-coloured and integrate a thicker and more cohesively designed full-width daytime running light that gives the vehicle a more captivating look.

The bottom half will almost entirely be in gloss black. The low- and high-beam lamps, fog lamps, and skid plate will carry the same design. The rear-end appears to be entirely identical, and the only difference here will likely be a block-lettered “Sierra.ev” inscription. On the sides, Tata Motors may use unique 19-inch alloy wheels. Another expected difference is “Sierra.ev” branding on the front door panels.

The interior design of the Tata Sierra.ev should be mostly the same as the Sierra. Tata Motors will likely use a new colour scheme and tweak the software of the electronics to incorporate certain EV-specific functions. The company could offer a new lounge seat option with extra legroom and more advanced seats in the back.

Tata Motors will equip the Sierra.ev with features like a gesture-controlled power tailgate, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, AR-HUD, a 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory and welcome functions, and an extra-large panoramic sunroof. On the safety front, six airbags, a 360º camera system, an auto-dimming IRVM, and 20+ advanced driver assistance systems should be among the highlights.

The Tata Sierra.ev could be launched in a single-motor RWD variant and a dual-motor AWD variant, both featuring an independent rear suspension. Tata Motors may give a choice of two LFP battery packs, the larger one of which could deliver a range of over 600 kilometres in the single-motor RWD variant. A vehicle-to-load (V2L) bi-directional charging function will likely be available in the EV.

2. New Mahindra Thar

Introduced in August 2020, the second-generation Thar has been long overdue for a facelift. Mahindra rolled out a few updates last year, but it will give the off-road-oriented three-door SUV a facelift this year, likely in the third quarter. The new model will be a sub-4 metre model featuring a brawny, authentic SUV character and likely sit above the XUV 3XO. Based on an all-new NU_IQ platform, it is expected to be offered with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine.

6 New Compact SUVs In The Pipeline By 2026-27 In India

GaadiWaadi -

Production-Spec-Mahindra-Vision-S-Baby-Scorpio-N-Rendered-2.jpg

No less than 6 new compact SUVs are expected to be launched by the end of 2027, with two models scheduled to be introduced this year itself

Mid-size SUVs may be the talk of the town right now, with a barrage of new launches lined up since the arrival of the all-new Tata Sierra in November, but compact SUVs remain the key growth drivers of the Indian car market. By 2027, at least 6 new compact SUVs are expected to be launched in India.

1. New Maruti Brezza

Launched in 2022, the Brezza is the second generation of Maruti Suzuki’s highly successful Vitara Brezza. The company is developing a facelifted version of the compact SUV and is likely to launch it in the third quarter of the year.

The facelifted Brezza would have a new exterior with restyled bumpers, tweaked headlamps and tail lamps, and new 16-inch alloy wheels. Inside, Maruti Suzuki is expected to introduce new features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and ventilated front seats. Level 2 advanced driver assistant systems may improve safety. Another major upgrade could be the introduction of the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Fronx, good for 73.6 kW (99 hp)/147.6 Nm of torque.

2. Next-gen Hyundai Bayon

The second generation of the Hyundai Bayon is coming this year, and unlike the outgoing model, it will be sold in India. Hyundai is developing the all-new Bayon (codename: BC4i) on the same platform as the fourth-gen i20 and will likely launch it in India in the third quarter of the year.

2024 Hyundai Bayon Facelift_-3

The Bayon should have a sportier design compared to the Venue and more premium features. Hyundai will debut a newly developed 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine in the Bayon, and it may offer a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine as an option.

3. VW compact SUV

Volkswagen had no plans to re-enter the sub-4 metre segment following the discontinuation of the Polo in 2022, but seeing the significant reduction in GST and the strong demand for Skoda’s Kylaq, it has reversed its stance. The company plans to launch a compact SUV in mid-2027.

Volkswagen Tera
Representational

Whether this model will be the same sporty-looking SUV as the MQB A0 platform-based VW Tera introduced in Latin America last year remains to be seen. What’s certain is that it will share the lower-cost MQB A0 IN platform with the Skoda Kylaq. The engine, gearbox, and features are also likely to be no different from the Skoda model.

4. Next-gen Tata Nexon/Nexon.ev

Also due in 2027 is the second-generation Tata Nexon. The next-gen Nexon (codename: Garud) will sit on a heavily modified version of the current model’s X1 platform. No other details are available at the moment, but chances are Tata Motors may not give a diesel engine option this time around. A similar all-new Nexon.ev could follow a few months later.

5. New Maruti Fronx

Maruti Fronx Hybrid
Maruti Fronx Hybrid

The Maruti Fronx will undergo a facelift next year and likely get redesigned split headlamps, revised tail lamps, restyled bumpers, and new 16-inch alloy wheels. Minor changes could be present on the inside, too, but the biggest talking point of the new model would be a series-hybrid system based on the Swift and Dzire’s Z12E 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine. This powertrain is expected to deliver a fuel economy of around 35 km/l.

6. Mahindra Vision.S

Mahindra Vision S (3)

The production version of the Mahindra Vision.S concept is coming to showrooms in 2027. It will stand out from the crowd with a squarish, authentic SUV character. Expected to be positioned above the Mahindra XUV 3XO, it will be based on the all-new NU_IQ monocoque platform and be much more spacious and technologically advanced. It could be offered with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine.

JSW Motors Teases Jetour T2-Based SUV For India Ahead Of Diwali Launch

Jetour T2

JSW previews first India SUV, Jetour-based plug-in hybrid planned for launch

JSW Motors has offered an early glimpse of its upcoming SUV for India through a dealer recruitment advertisement, marking the first official teaser of the company’s debut product for the domestic market. The model is expected to be derived from the global Jetour T2 and will form part of JSW’s new passenger vehicle strategy developed in partnership with Chinese automaker Chery.

The SUV is planned to be assembled locally at the company’s upcoming facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. At the same time, JSW has begun onboarding dealer partners across India, signalling preparations for its retail network ahead of the vehicle’s introduction.

The teaser image reveals a rugged front design featuring circular headlamp housings with horizontal LED strips and distinctive geometric fog lamps, along with a tall bonnet and squared wheel arches. While the overall styling closely mirrors the international Jetour T2, the India-bound version is expected to carry JSW branding and could feature some minor exterior revisions such as different mirror units.

Globally, the Jetour T2 is offered with both electric and plug-in hybrid options, but the India model is widely expected to launch with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Internationally, this setup combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 154 HP and 220 Nm with a 26.7 kWh battery pack. Depending on configuration, it can be paired with either a front-wheel-drive single-motor layout or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, with a claimed electric-only range of up to 139 km under NEDC testing.

The international-spec cabin features a large 15.6-inch infotainment display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a five-seat configuration. Other equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a premium audio system, ventilated powered seats and automatic climate control, alongside safety tech such as a 360-degree camera and Level 2 driver assistance. A similar equipment list is expected for the India version.

JSW Motors is targeting a market positioning between roughly Rs. 15 lakh and Rs. 30 lakh, placing the SUV in the mid-size to upper mid-size segment. The company has indicated an intended debut around the Diwali 2026 period, although regulatory approvals related to imported components could affect the final timeline.

With its first teaser now released and dealer expansion underway, JSW Motors appears to be moving steadily toward its entry into India’s competitive SUV market.

Maruti Suzuki Nexa Sales Reach 5.4 Lakh Units In FY25; 200th Studio Outlet Opened

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

With the inauguration of its 200th Nexa Studio outlet, Maruti Suzuki is doubling down on taking its sales identity deeper into smaller and fast-growing towns

Premium car retail is no longer a metro-only game and Maruti Suzuki seems to understand that better than most. With the inauguration of its 200th Nexa Studio outlet, the company is doubling down on taking its sales identity deeper into smaller and fast-growing towns. More interestingly, the Studio format itself is relatively new as it was introduced only a couple of years ago.

It was created to replicate the Nexa experience in emerging markets without the scale of a full-sized showroom. These outlets combine sales, service and spare parts under one roof functioning as compact customer hubs. The milestone outlet has come up in Kharkhoda, Haryana. Instead of concentrating purely on big cities, the focus appears to have changed to regions where aspirational demand is rising steadily.

At the larger level, the Maruti Suzuki Nexa ecosystem now comprises more than 740 touchpoints across over 530 cities. The network operates through two distinct formats: expansive Nexa dealerships in major urban centres and the more space-efficient Studio outlets in developing markets. What makes this growth significant is Nexa’s contribution to overall volumes.

In the last financial year, the channel delivered sales of more than 5.4 lakh units – accounting for nearly 30 per cent of Maruti Suzuki’s domestic performance. Launched in 2015, Nexa was originally pitched as a differentiated retail experience for customers seeking more polished and premium alternative than a conventional showroom environment.

Within just a year, the network had already expanded to 100 outlets – setting the tone for its aggressive expansion. Today, the Nexa portfolio includes models such as the Baleno, Fronx, Grand Vitara, XL6, Ignis, Jimny, Invicto and the recently launched e Vitara. Commenting on the new milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said,

“To cater to their needs, we are happy to expand our NEXA footprint to such locations. With their support, we aim to take the total number of NEXA Studio outlets to 600, by the end of FY 2030-31.”

Lamborghini Cancels Lanzador EV, Confirms Plug-In Hybrid

Lamborghini Lanzandor Front

Lamborghini drops Lanzador EV plan, opts for plug-in hybrid instead

Lamborghini has revised its electrification roadmap, confirming that the production version of the Lanzador will no longer be a fully electric model. Instead, the Italian performance brand plans to introduce the vehicle with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, signalling a more cautious approach toward battery-only supercars.

The Lanzador was first previewed as a concept in 2023 and had been earmarked as Lamborghini’s first mass-production EV, originally targeted for the latter part of the decade. Following an internal assessment of market conditions and buyer preferences, the company has now concluded that demand for fully electric supercars remains extremely limited within its customer base.

Company leadership has indicated that buyers in this segment still prioritise the sensory and emotional aspects associated with traditional high-performance engines, including sound, throttle response and mechanical character. As a result, the brand believes a rapid transition to full electrification could present commercial risks if customer acceptance does not keep pace.

While the all-electric version has been dropped, the Lanzador project itself continues. The upcoming model will instead combine an internal combustion engine with electric assistance, aligning it with Lamborghini’s broader shift toward high-performance hybrid systems already seen across its current range.

The company has also stepped back from earlier considerations of introducing a fully electric successor to the Urus in the near term. Given the SUV’s importance as Lamborghini’s highest-volume product, the firm appears intent on avoiding major technology shifts that could affect its core sales stability.

For now, Lamborghini’s strategy centres on expanding plug-in hybrid technology as a transitional solution. This allows the manufacturer to address tightening global emissions rules while retaining the performance characteristics and driving engagement expected from the brand.

The move reflects a wider trend in the high-performance automotive sector, where some manufacturers are reassessing the timeline for fully electric flagship models even as others continue pushing ahead with battery-electric supercar programmes.
