Tata plans to go all in CY2026 as three brand new electric vehicles are lined up for launch amidst strengthening its EV ecosystem

Tata Motors has officially outlined the next phase of its electric vehicle roadmap – confirming a new set of EV launches, infrastructure expansion and localisation initiatives that will be introduced over the second half of this decade. It comes on the back of the brand registering over 2.5 lakh EV sales in just 5 years with the Nexon EV becoming the first-ever EV in India to post over 1 lakh unit sales.

The most immediate action begins in calendar year 2026. Tata will launch the production-spec Sierra EV alongside a brand new iteration of the top-selling Punch EV. The IC-engined Sierra has been well received by consumers and carrying the momentum, Tata will bring in its electrified version utilising two battery packs and it will be capable of returning over 500 km per charge.

Towards the end of CY2026, Tata will also pull the covers off the Avinya range, a new family of premium electric vehicles that will sit at the top of its EV portfolio and it was previously showcased in its concept form quite a few times. Looking further ahead, Tata has confirmed that its EV line-up will expand significantly by the end of the decade.

By FY2030, the brand plans to have at least five all-new electric nameplates on sale including the Sierra and Avinya families, supported by multiple updates, facelifts and feature enhancements across existing models to keep the range competitive. Charging infrastructure is set to scale in parallel with vehicle launches as well.

Tata acknowledges that customer expectations are evolving rapidly as reliability and ultra-fast charging now becoming critical decision factors. By CY2027, the company aims to have around 4 lakh charging points nationwide including more than 30,000 public fast chargers developed through the Tata EV Open Collaboration framework.

By 2030, Tata is targeting a charging ecosystem of one million charge points across India with at least 1 lakh of them being public chargers – creating one of the densest and most accessible EV charging networks in the country. Plans also include the expansion of dedicated EV bays, specialised battery repair centres and support infrastructure.

For second owners, Tata is introducing battery health checks and refurbishment solutions while end-of-life batteries will be repurposed for energy storage applications to support a circular economy. Tata has confirmed that its next major step will involve sourcing high-voltage battery cells locally from Agratas’ upcoming gigafactory in Sanand.

India Made Suzuki Baleno Gets 2-star Latin NCAP Safety Rating

India made Baleno earns 2-star Latin NCAP rating, mixed safety performance

The India-manufactured Suzuki Baleno has received a 2-star safety rating in the latest crash tests conducted by Latin NCAP. The result applies to the version tested with a higher safety specification and reflects mixed performance across different impact scenarios.

In adult occupant protection, the hatchback scored 79 percent. During the frontal offset crash test, protection for the driver and front passenger’s head and neck was rated as good. Chest protection was assessed as adequate while protection for the knees and tibias was marked as marginal. These results indicate acceptable restraint performance but also highlight areas where structural loads remain a concern.

Side impact performance was comparatively stronger. In the side pole test, protection for the head abdomen and pelvis was rated as good while chest and abdomen protection was considered adequate. This helped improve the overall adult safety score.

For child occupant protection, the Baleno achieved 65 percent. Latin NCAP reported full protection for both the 1.5-year-old and 3-year-old child dummies with no head exposure recorded. In side impact tests, both child dummies also demonstrated full protection which contributed positively to the rating.

The tested vehicle was equipped with six airbags electronic stability control ISOFIX child seat mounts seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters along with seatbelt reminders. These features played a key role in the final scores.

Latin NCAP also evaluated a lower-spec version of the Baleno fitted with only dual airbags. This variant was awarded a 1-star rating underscoring the impact of additional safety equipment on crash test performance.

Mahindra Doubles Down On New SUVs & EVs With Aggressive Launch Plans

Mahindra has lined up a wide range of new launches across internal combustion and electric segments over the next 3 to 4 years

Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing to enter a decisive growth cycle with its automotive business set to play the lead role over the coming decade. The company is concentrating on strengthening the foundations of its most successful verticals – placing SUVs and light commercial vehicles at the centre of its long term expansion strategy.

The homegrown manufacturer has lined up a wide range of new launches across internal combustion and electric segments. The brand has already expanded its ICE lineup with updates and additions while its electric portfolio is scheduled to grow rapidly over the next three to four years as part of garnering more market share.

Models such as the recently introduced XEV 9S have set the tone with future EVs like the BE 6 Rall-E, Thar EV, Scorpio EV and multiple born-electric SUVs waiting in the wings. Alongside this, refreshed versions of key ICE models including the updated Scorpio N and the XUV 7XO are set to arrive soon with pre-bookings already open for the latter.

Besides products, Mahindra is also consolidating its focus on international markets – targeting both right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive regions. New modular platforms, software-led architectures and a more mature design language are being developed to support this  as Mahindra looks to position itself among the global elites.

The intent was recently reiterated with the showcase of four new concepts and the NU_IQ platform which will underpin several future models expected to debut by 2027. These next-generation architectures are designed to support multiple powertrains and judging by recent spy images, the production version of the Vision S concept could be the first to arrive.

In the light commercial vehicle segment, the strategy is more about consolidation than experimentation. Mahindra already commands over 50 per cent of India’s domestic LCV market and is now deepening its presence in the sub-3.5-tonne category. Over the past five years, Mahindra’s standalone automotive volumes have nearly doubled to around 9.28 lakh units.

The farm equipment business is targeting a three-times expansion while Mahindra Finance is working towards a fivefold increase in its asset base. Looking ahead, Mahindra has reiterated that capital allocation will remain selective, favouring businesses that promise scalable growth and sustainable returns.

In the table of top 10 sedans sold in November 2025, Maruti Suzuki Dzire reigned supreme ahead of its main rivals in the compact segment

The sedan segment showed strong year-on-year recovery in November 2025 – registering healthy overall growth despite continued interest towards SUVs from customers. Combined sedan volumes stood at just over 35,000 units which resulted in a notable improvement when compared to the same month last year.

Heading the charts once again was the Maruti Suzuki Dzire which delivered a dominant performance. With over 21,000 units sold, the sub-4m sedan retained its top spot with conviction while registering one of the strongest growth rates in the segment. The sedan’s appeal continues to stem from its pricing, fuel efficiency and widespread fleet as well as private demand.

The latest iteration has been on sale for around a year and it has been well received across India. The Hyundai Aura secured second position with sales of 5,731 units – reiterating its steady presence in the entry-level sedan category. Honda’s Amaze followed close behind – posting nearly 2,800 units and maintaining stable volumes on a YoY basis.

2026 Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift To Likely Get Underbody CNG Tank As Victoris

GaadiWaadi -

2026 Maruti Brezza

2026 Maruti Suzuki Brezza facelift will get minor cosmetic updates but a host of new features could be added

The first notable update for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is expected to arrive in early 2026 and instead of focussing only on cosmetic tweaks, the facelift could introduce a key functional upgrade which could improve everyday usability. Recent test sightings have fuelled speculation that the compact SUV may switch to an underfloor CNG tank layout – similar to what Maruti Suzuki has already implemented on the Victoris.

The change could prove significant for buyers opting for the factory-fitted CNG version. By relocating the gas cylinder beneath the floor instead of inside the boot, the Brezza would regain much of its luggage space – an area where current CNG models compromise the most. Spy vehicles seen earlier with CNG badging on the rear windshield strongly hint that the brand is evaluating this configuration for the facelift.

It will help compete against models utilising dual cylinder tech. Mechanically, the Brezza is expected to continue with its existing powertrain lineup. The 1.5-litre K15C four-pot petrol engine should carry over unchanged – producing 102 bhp power and 137 Nm of torque while the CNG version will more likely retain outputs of 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm.

Transmission options are also expected to remain familiar with a manual gearbox available on both fuel types and a 6-speed torque converter automatic reserved for petrol variants. In terms of safety and platform fundamentals, the facelifted Brezza will continue to be underpinned by Maruti Suzuki’s Global C architecture. There is also growing chatter around the possible addition of Level 2 ADAS but the test mules have hinted otherwise yet.

As for the exterior, the changes appear restrained. Test mules have revealed a new alloy wheel design while the front end seems to feature subtle revisions. Tweaked lighting elements and reworked detailing should give the facelifted Brezza a slightly sharper face – drawing mild inspiration from newer products like the Victoris.

Despite these updates, the SUV’s overall proportions and stance remain unchanged. At the rear, revisions are expected to be minimal. Slightly altered tail-lamp internals may be part of the update but features such as the roof-mounted spoiler with integrated high-mounted stop lamp and the shark fin antenna continue unchanged.

Spy shots so far have not shown us the dashboard layout but we expect feature inclusions such as a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a new digital console, more premium surface trims and materials, etc.

2026 Tata Harrier & Safari Petrol Debut – Specs, Variants, New Features & More

GaadiWaadi -

Tata Harrier Petrol (3)

2026 Tata Harrier and Safari petrol versions utilise a new 1.5L turbo gasoline mill kicking out 170 PS and 280 Nm; coupled with a six-speed MT or an AT

Tata Motors is all set to introduce petrol-powered versions of the Harrier and Safari soon in India and we got a taste of the duo recently. At the heart of this transition lies the all-new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo GDi four-cylinder petrol engine which develops 170 PS maximum power and 280 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions across the Harrier and Safari portfolios.

Tata has engineered this engine around durability and real-world usability featuring an electronically actuated variable geometry turbocharger, 350-bar gasoline direct injection and AI- and ML-driven systems such as Smart Shift Assist and Launch Assist. Compared to diesel versions, the petrol models benefit from an approximate 80 kg weight reduction.

The Hyperion engine uses a Miller combustion cycle with the segment’s highest compression ratio, supported by an intelligent fuelling system that continuously optimises efficiency. NVH levels are also significantly improved through a stiffened engine block with an integrated ladder frame, advanced acoustic insulation materials and high-pressure fuel injectors with built-in isolators. Tata claims over 15 lakh kilometres of real-world testing and more than 10,000 hours of bench testing across extreme climates and terrains.

Tata Safari Petrol (1)

Both SUVs continue to sit on Tata’s OMEGARC architecture derived from Land Rover’s D8 platform. In terms of dimensions and road presence, the Harrier maintains its 4.6-metre-long muscular stance while the Safari retains its three-row proportions. On the design and cabin front, the petrol Harrier introduces Oyster White and Titan Brown interior theme, complemented by Benecke Kaliko leatherette upholstery and 18-inch Lunar Graphite alloy wheels.

The Safari, meanwhile, gets a more regal Carnelian Red interior with matching premium leatherette seats, Steel Black dashboard accents and larger 19-inch Blackstone alloy wheels with red brake callipers. Both SUVs gain unique exterior colour options including the bold “Nitro Crimson” shade and a sporty Carbon Black finish.

Tata Safari Petrol

One of the main features is a 36.9 cm cinematic infotainment display powered by Samsung Neo QLED technology – claimed to be the world’s first of its kind in an ICE vehicle. It is paired with a Dolby Atmos-enabled audio system featuring 10 JBL speakers including a subwoofer and central channel. Additional highlights include an arcade app suite with streaming apps, built-in Mappls navigation, iRA 2.0 connected tech, Alexa Home-to-Car integration and a JLR-derived command shifter on automatic variants.

Both Harrier and Safari petrol models offer powered front seats with memory and welcome functions, ventilated seating with second-row ventilation exclusive to select Safari variants, dual-zone climate control with voice assistance, panoramic sunroof with mood lighting, ambient cabin illumination and a gesture-controlled powered tailgate. Practical features such as winged second-row headrests, sliding armrests, roll-up sun blinds and ClearView dual-camera washer systems are also available.

Tata Harrier Petrol (3)

The petrol Harrier and Safari are rated 5 stars under Bharat NCAP and come equipped with Level 2+ ADAS featuring over 22 advanced driver assistance functions including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, intelligent speed assist and autonomous emergency braking. An advanced electronic stability program with multiple intervention functions ensures added confidence across varying driving conditions.

Variant-wise, the petrol powertrain is spread across Smart, Pure, Adventure, Fearless and Accomplished trims for both SUVs with multiple Dark, Stealth and Ultra editions expanding buyer choice. While entry-level variants focus on value, the Ultra trims position themselves as fully loaded offerings especially in the automatic configuration.
