Mercedes CLA EV

Boasting a WLTP range of nearly 800 kilometres, the Mercedes CLA Electric aims to make range anxiety a thing of the past

A year after its world premiere in Europe, the third-generation Mercedes CLA will make its debut in India this April. The three-pointed star is set to launch the fully redesigned C-segment sedan in its pure electric variant. The first-ever Mercedes CLA Electric is one of the most advanced EVs from a European luxury brand. Its 800-volt electric architecture enables ultra-fast charging, and its long range further enhances everyday usability.

Globally, Mercedes-Benz offers the CLA Electric in 200, 250+, and 350 4MATIC variants. The 200 variant, with a rear-mounted motor producing 165 kW (221 hp) and 355 Nm of torque, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and achieves a top speed of 210 km/h. It has a 58 kWh LFP battery pack that delivers a WLTP range of 541 kilometres. With a peak charging input of 200 kW, it goes up from 10% to 80% SoC in just 20 minutes.

The 250+ variant upgrades to a rear motor generating 200 kW (268 hp) and 335 Nm of torque, cutting the 0 to 100 km/h sprint time to 6.7 seconds. It uses an 85 kWh NMC battery pack that can be charged at up to 320 kW, with a 10% to 80% session taking 22 minutes. It increases the WLTP range to a whopping 792 kilometres, as per WLTP.

The Mercedes CLA Electric flaunts a faux A-shaped radiator grille featuring 142 illuminated and individually animated chrome-effect stars, 19-inch alloy wheels, and headlamps and tail lamps featuring a star-shaped light guides. Maruti Suzuki continued to head the standings in Jan 2026 amidst stellar performances from Tata Motors and Mahindra with Hyundai in fourth

The PV market opened the new year registering healthy year-on-year growth. The total dispatches across major manufacturers stood at 4,52,589 units compared to 4,01,538 units in January 2025 with a notable growth of 12.7 per cent. While Maruti Suzuki retained its leadership position, growth was largely powered by Tata Motors and Mahindra – both of which posted strong double-digit gains.

Though growth was limited to 0.5 per cent, the brand’s sheer scale ensured it remained the single largest contributor to overall industry volumes. As has been the case in recent times, Tata Motors emerged as one of the standout performers of the month. With sales surging to 70,222 units from 48,075 units last year, Tata recorded a massive 46.1 per cent growth.

Passenger Vehicles Drive Indian Auto Sales To New January High In 2026

GaadiWaadi -

Tata Punch (3)

In January 2026, the auto market recorded wholesales of over 27,20,881 units with PVs contributing to approximately 4.55 lakh units

The auto market delivered an exceptional performance in January 2026 by recording aggregate wholesales of over 27,20,881 units across segments excluding Telangana. The outcome indicated the strongest January showing since the pandemic disruptions – surpassing 23,21,692 units posted in January 2025. Passenger vehicles accounted for a substantial share of this volume.

Industry estimates place the segment at approximately 4.55 lakh units for the month. The surge came against the backdrop of supportive macro conditions. Demand benefited from the GST reduction announced in September 2025 along with recent income tax relief which together helped stabilise purchasing sentiment.

Combined with improved stock availability, these factors enabled January 2026 to emerge as the highest-selling January in the last 4 years. Maruti Suzuki maintained its position at the top of the industry hierarchy. Domestic passenger vehicle dispatches stood at 1,85,943 units – broadly unchanged from the previous year. When exports, light commercial vehicles and OEM supplies are included, total volumes reached a record 2,36,963 units.

The company also reported a 25 per cent increase in bookings while flagging potential price adjustments amid rising input costs linked to metals. Tata Motors delivered one of the most pronounced year-on-year expansions in the market. January volumes climbed to 70,222 units with a growth of 46.1 per cent. Key nameplates such as the Nexon and Punch contributed in majority.

Mahindra & Mahindra sustained its upward trajectory as its domestic SUV sales reached 63,510 units with a 25 per cent growth while total vehicle volumes including exports stood at 1,04,309 units with a surge of 24 per cent. Hyundai reported its best-ever January with total volumes rising 11.5 per cent while exports increased 20.9 per cent to 14,030 units.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor followed with 30,630 domestic units as against last year’s 26,178 units while JSW MG Motor posted 9 per cent growth courtesy of the Windsor EV. Looking ahead, the industry is projected to sustain a 6–7 per cent annual growth rate supported by infrastructure-based demand and localisation efforts across EV and battery supply chains.

But, rising raw material costs and geopolitical uncertainty remain key risks to margin stability even as January 2026 establishes a strong baseline for the year.

Renault To Launch Tata Nexon Rivalling Mini-Duster In India

GaadiWaadi -

2026 new renault duster

New compact SUV likely to slot above the Kiger and be distinguished with a stronger road presence, more space, comfort, and convenience, and higher safety

Renault is making a strong comeback in India, with at least three major launches planned by 2028. Following the third-generation Duster and the seven-seat SUV derived from it, the company is likely to introduce a mini-Duster designed to compete with the Tata Nexon.

The Renault Kiger has not been selling as well as the brand expected, and to solidify its position in the segment, the French automaker is likely to launch a new model with a squarer and tougher exterior that resonates better with the taste of Indian SUV buyers. The company could position the new model above the Kiger, just as Kia offers both Sonet and Syros in the compact SUV segment.

The new model will be based on the same platform as the third-generation Duster – CMF-B, which has two versions, namely LS (Low Specifications) and HS (High Specifications). Like the Duster and the upcoming three-row SUV, the compact SUV will be based on the LS version to keep the production costs in check.

The mini-Duster will likely be wider and taller than the Kiger and should have a longer wheelbase. The bigger dimensions and more conventional proportions may translate to greater passenger and cargo space.

While the Duster and the three-row SUV derived from it will be available even with a full-hybrid powertrain, the mini-Duster could be a strictly ICE model. Renault may offer it only with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, with both manual and automatic transmission options. The company may even offer a CNG version of this engine to bank on the growing demand for this fuel option in the segment.

Renault may offer the mini-Duster with ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems, and a range of other premium features to ensure competitiveness in the segment. In addition to the Tata Nexon, the mini-Duster will compete with the Hyundai Venue, Kia Syros, and Skoda Kylaq, as well as the Mahindra Vision S concept’s production version and a VW compact SUV, both scheduled to hit the showrooms in 2027.

The mini-Duster could arrive in early 2028 and be priced from around 8 lakh rupees (ex-showroom). Renault will likely manufacture it exclusively in India and may export it to many emerging markets.
