Jan 2026 Delivers Historic High For India’s PV Segment With 4.49 Lakh Sales

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Dzire

According to SIAM, total passenger vehicle dispatches climbed to 4,49,616 units in January 2026 with a 12.6 per cent rise

Maruti Suzuki continued to lead the domestic passenger vehicle space in January 2026 dispatching 2,36,962 units and registering an 11.6 per cent year-on-year gain. The company’s export performance was equally noteworthy, touching 51,020 units – its highest January overseas tally – while domestic PV sales stood at 1,74,529 unit sales with good performance in multiple segments.

Nevertheless, the prevailing market discourse reached far past the activities of a single firm. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), total passenger vehicle dispatches climbed to 4,49,616 units in January 2026 with a 12.6 per cent rise over the 3,99,386 units recorded in the same month last year.

These results show the peak of January performance in the history of the Indian automotive industry. Further down the rankings, Tata Motors delivered around 70,222 units – achieving its best January result to date and regaining the second spot supported largely by the continued popularity of the Nexon and Punch along with its electric offerings.

Mahindra & Mahindra posted a notable 25.37 per cent jump to 63,510 units – fuelled by sustained demand for its SUV portfolio. Hyundai Motor India followed with sales of 59,107 units with the Creta remaining a consistent volume contributor. Looking at the bigger picture, overall industry wholesales hovered around 4.55 lakh units during the month.

Both the two-wheeler and three-wheeler segments posted their best ever January figures with consistent demand across categories. At the same time, SUVs led the charge in the passenger vehicle space – aided by brisk retail activity and well-managed dealership inventories that helped sustain the growth momentum.

Policy measures outlined in the Union Budget 2026 looking to strengthen domestic manufacturing along with supportive tax structures and a continuous flow of new vehicle launches are being seen as key enablers of the sector’s upward trajectory. These factors are laying a firm groundwork for expansion in the coming months of the calendar year.

At the same time, the January 2026 performance demonstrates the resilience of the passenger vehicle market despite challenges such as fluctuating input costs and intermittent supply constraints.

TVS Brings Kutch-Themed Custom Apache & Ronin To Rann Utsav 2026

TVS Apache RR 310, TVS Apache RTR 310, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and TVS Ronin were customised with specific Kutch themes

Rider engagement activities formed a key part of TVS Motor Company’s presence at the 2026 Rann Utsav in Gujarat where the brand hosted curated rides and interactive sessions for enthusiasts from across India and overseas. At the centrepiece of the showcase stood a collection of uniquely styled motorcycles created in association with Eimor Customs.

The project reimagined four production models – the TVS Apache RR 310, TVS Apache RTR 310, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and TVS Ronin – through a design language shaped by the vast white salt flats and expansive blue horizons of Kutch. Each motorcycle features individually crafted paint finishes and selected tones that mirror the desert’s striking contrasts.

Specially designed metallic insignias indicate their bespoke status – ensuring these machines stand apart from their standard showroom counterparts. The emphasis throughout the lineup is on visual storytelling as you could readily see. Beneath the artistic design, the motorcycles retain their stock engineering as you might expect.

Engines, frames and running gear are unchanged as these editions serve primarily as conceptual statements. The company has indicated that there are currently no plans to introduce these customised versions into mass production. Among the display units, a Ronin built around an exploration-centric theme offered a more functional interpretation.

This particular motorcycle is equipped with dual-purpose tyres, a redesigned front mudguard and a reinforced rear carrier that supports modular luggage systems – making it better aligned with the terrain it symbolises. Attention to local heritage is woven into the finer details of the builds.

Textile-inspired patterns reminiscent of Ajrak artistry, earthy stitched finishes and a colour gradient shifting from sky blue to a salt-white shade collectively capture the character of the Rann landscape at sunrise, tying together culture, craft and motorcycling in a single cohesive presentation.

Commenting on the occasion, Sudarshan Venu, Chairman, TVS Motor Company, said: “The Rann of Kutch stands as one of India’s most remarkable expressions of culture and heritage. The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s long-standing vision and encouragement to promote India’s destinations, and experiential tourism has been a strong source of inspiration for TVS Motor. It is an honour to take this vision to the next level by pioneering motorcycling-led adventures that position India’s treasures on the global tourism map,”

2026 Tata Punch EV Facelift To Launch Next Week In India – All Key Details

GaadiWaadi -

New Tata Punch EV

2026 Tata Punch EV facelift gets exterior and interior updates while the battery options and claimed range remain the same

Tata Motors is all set to bring in the updated Punch EV in India on Feb 20, 2026 – introducing a series of enhancements to its compact electric SUV inside and out. While the electric drivetrain carries over unchanged, the refreshed model concentrates on design revisions and enhanced in-cabin features and technologies this time around.

A marginal price increase over the outgoing version is expected once it officially goes on sale. Mechanically, the zero-emission SUV continues with two battery choices. Buyers will still have the option of a 25 kWh pack offering a claimed driving range of 265 km or a larger 35 kWh unit capable of delivering up to 365 km on a single charge. The smaller battery remains paired with a motor producing 82 bhp and 114 Nm of torque whereas the bigger pack works with a stronger motor rated at 121 bhp and 190 Nm.

Inside the cabin, the most notable addition is likely to be a larger 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen featuring Tata’s updated interface. Revised seat materials and colour themes may also be introduced to create a new ambience. There is speculation that more advanced driver assistance systems could join the equipment list.

New Tata Punch EV

Despite the updates, the 2026 Punch EV will retain several key features from the existing model. These are expected to include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 360-degree camera system, wireless smartphone charging, connected car functionality, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror.

The current variant lineup comprising Smart, Smart Plus, Adventure and Empowered trims is likely to remain unchanged. On the outside, the facelift brings a cleaner look. The front now features a closed-off panel while the earlier black strip linking the headlamps has been removed for a sharper look. The lower bumper has been subtly reshaped with larger air intakes and the alloy wheels gets a new design influenced by Tata’s larger EV models.

A vibrant new exterior shade similar to the bright yellow seen on Tata’s premium SUVs will also be introduced – complemented by a contrasting black roof for a sportier appearance. Although full rear details are yet to be revealed, updated lighting elements including a light bar similar to the recently refreshed petrol version and a new bumper will be part of the package.

Vespa Officina 8 Special Edition Launched In India At Rs. 1.34 Lakh

GaadiWaadi -

Vespa Officina 8

Vespa Officina 8 is now available at select dealerships and is offered in both 125 cc and 150 cc versions

Vespa has introduced a new heritage-inspired edition in India drawing directly from one of the most important chapters in its engineering past. The Officina 8 special series, now available at select dealerships, carries a starting price of Rs. 1.34 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra) and is offered in both 125 cc and 150 cc versions.

Finished in a matte metallic shade called Blue Officina 8, the scooter immediately has a unique stance. The colour has been specially developed for this edition and indicates the industrial character of the original Italian workshop that inspired it. Subtle brass and aluminium highlights along with exposed rivet detailing give the scooter a vintage look.

It combines vintage styling cues. To make it more peculiar, Vespa is bundling a colour-coordinated helmet as standard equipment which is in line with the design theme. Consumers can also opt for a matching top box finished in the same industrial tone. In addition, the company has curated a premium lifestyle collection including jackets, hoodies, T-shirts, backpacks and keychains featuring dedicated Officina 8 branding.

Every customer will also receive a specially prepared welcome package housed in a custom tin case. Inside, an owner’s booklet narrates the story behind Officina 8 and explains how this experimental unit shaped the direction of the Vespa brand nearly eight decades ago.

The name Officina 8 traces back to a restricted development department established within Piaggio’s Pontedera plant in Italy during the 1940s. Operating independently from the main assembly line, this team of engineers and craftsmen focused on prototype building, repeated testing and constant mechanical refinement. Their efforts ultimately led to the patenting of the first Vespa in 1946.

Innovations such as the step-through steel frame, compact engine configuration and intuitive control layout were perfected through that workshop’s relentless experimentation. Over time, Officina 8 became synonymous with the brand’s innovative ideas culminating into one through precision and craftsmanship.

Commenting on the new launch, Diego Graffi, Chairman and MD, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd said, “The Officina 8 represents a significant chapter in Vespa’s journey. By way of these periodic special-edition products Vespa, keeps adding value and differentiate itself. This special-edition series pays homage to the craftsmanship and spirit of the original Officina 8 workshop while also introducing high-end merchandise in India.
