TVS, Bajaj & Hero Tighten Grip On e-Scooter Market With Over 60% Market Share

GaadiWaadi -

TVS Motor Company surpassed the milestone of selling over one lakh electric scooters in a single quarter during Q3 FY26 in the electric two-wheeler space

The electric two-wheeler arena has entered a new phase of competition in 2026 with legacy manufacturers firmly taking control after years of startups having the upper hand. According to data compiled by JATO Dynamics, traditional brands collectively accounted for around 60 percent of total segment share by the first month of the new CY.

The surge has been led by established giants such as TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp which together have capitalised on their nationwide dealership reach, deeper vendor ecosystems and manufacturing capacity. Their scale allows faster production ramp-ups, improved spare-parts access and after-sales coverage compared to smaller rivals.

Consumer preferences have also evolved alongside the market. Early adopters once sought after innovation and price advantages but mainstream buyers are now giving more importance to reliability, ease of service, long term ownership costs and brand reassurance. The behavioural change has tilted demand toward companies with proven track records.

TVS, the Hosur-based manufacturer, has been among the biggest beneficiaries of this transition. By expanding its electric portfolio which comprises iQube and Orbiter, strengthening supply chains and targeting multiple customer segments, it surpassed the milestone of selling over one lakh electric scooters in a single quarter during Q3 FY26.

Even earlier supply disruptions did little to slow its growth trajectory. Bajaj’s recovery story has also been notable. After facing battery procurement constraints that temporarily affected production, the firm stabilised sourcing and scaled output again. A rebound in the December quarter helped it reclaim the second spot in electric scooter volumes – supported by an expanded Chetak range.

Startup performance, however, has been uneven rather than uniformly weak. Ather Energy posted encouraging quarterly gains driven by demand for its family-oriented Rizta model and operational streamlining. On the other hand, Ola Electric has experienced huge share erosion due to challenges in scaling service infrastructure and maintaining consistent customer experience.

Despite intensifying rivalry, the category itself is still at a relatively early stage compared with India’s overall two-wheeler market. Adoption is steadily increasing thanks to safer battery technology, wider charging and service access, improving resale and supportive policy measures.

A company-fitted CNG variant could also be introduced at a later stage. Built on the same platform as the Renault Triber, the Gravite is expected to feature a high level of localisation to maintain competitive pricing. The design stays in line with a modern approach – giving it different styling cues compared to its French sibling mainly on the outside.

New Maruti Suzuki Brezza Caught Testing Again – Bigger Screen, 6-Speed MT

GaadiWaadi -

New 2026 Maruti Suzuki Brezza Spied

The facelifted version of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is expected to go on sale soon in India with minor cosmetic updates and a longer features list

The Brezza plays a significant role in Maruti Suzuki garnering high volume sales especially in the highly demanding SUV segment in India but it is certainly due a mid-cycle update. Rightfully, the Indo-Japanese manufacturer is also set to introduce a facelifted model in the coming months judging by the frequent spotting of test prototypes.

A camouflaged mule of the 2026 Brezza has been spotted once again indicating that Maruti Suzuki is indeed cooking up a significant update for its compact SUV. While the overall proportions remain instantly recognisable, the test vehicle suggests that the focus this time could be more on functionality and inclusion of new technology and features.

One of the most talked-about developments is related to the CNG variant. The updated Brezza is believed to be evaluating an underfloor CNG tank placement instead of positioning the cylinder inside the luggage bay. If this configuration makes it to production, it would solve one of the biggest compromises faced by CNG buyers – reduced boot capacity.

Earlier prototypes carrying CNG markings have added weight to this speculation but heavy camouflage makes it difficult to confirm definitively. Such a move would significantly enhance practicality in a similar fashion to the Victoris. Interior upgrades are also expected to play a central role in the refresh. A larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit is likely to be introduced – potentially offering improved resolution and expanded connectivity features.

The SUV already comes with a head-up display supporting navigation prompts. Additionally, the test sighting suggest that a six-speed manual gearbox may replace the existing five-speed unit mated to the 1.5L petrol engine. The front end does not show obvious alterations under camouflage. However, redesigned alloy wheels have been clearly observed.

A small exposed section along the side hints at slimmer body cladding suggesting a slightly cleaner look compared to the outgoing model. Mechanically, the Brezza is expected to retain its current engine lineup. The 1.5-litre K15C petrol motor should continue to produce around 102 bhp and 137 Nm of torque while the CNG version is likely to maintain outputs close to 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm.

New Tata Punch.ev Achieves A Real-World Range Of Nearly 600 km

GaadiWaadi -

2026 tata Punch EV1

Tata Motors to improve the practicality of the Punch.ev by increasing its range as part of its first facelift this month

The new Tata Punch.ev, scheduled to be launched on 20 February, will be much more than just a cosmetic refresh. Besides styling, the updated car is set to come with a major technical upgrade that could offer a significantly improved range. Tata Motors recently invited an automotive journalist to conduct a real-world range test of the new Punch.ev. The journey was initially set from Jaipur to Udaipur, a route spanning 400 kilometres.

The new Punch.ev completed the Jaipur-Udaipur journey with 34% charging remaining, prompting the driver to keep going further. The trip was extended into Gujarat, where the car’s battery pack depleted to 0% SoC in Himatnagar after covering a total distance of 593.6 kilometres.

Most of the driving in the new Punch.ev during the range test took place in a relaxed manner on the highway, effectively resulting in hypermiling conditions. Plus, an optimal ambient temperature of around 30 degrees kept the energy consumption in check. While passing Bhilwara, at 261 kilometres away from the start of the journey in Jaipur, the car was being driven at an efficiency rating of 66 Wh/km.

Tata Motors is using a new battery pack in the facelifted Punch.ev. While we don’t have any specifics yet, we expect it to consist of LFP cells and be available as an option against a smaller, carried-over unit. It could deliver an official range of somewhere around 425 kilometres. The pre-facelift model was available with 25 kWh and 35 kWh LFP battery pack options, which deliver a range of 265 kilometres (official)/190-210 kilometres (real-world) and 365 kilometres(official)/270-290 kilometres (real-world), respectively.

There’s no word on any changes to the powertrain. In the pre-facelift Punch.ev, Tata Motors used a 60 kW (80 hp)/114 Nm motor in the standard-range variant and a 90 kW (121 hp)/190 Nm motor in the extended-range variant.

2026 tata Punch EV2

The new Tata Punch.ev features a revised front fascia that looks more upmarket. The faux grille has a cleaner design, the functional grille has a new look with a concave surface, and the headlamp housing is also new. At the rear, a chunkier skid plate reinforces the model’s SUV identity. The new combination lamps are connected via a light strip to give the vehicle a more high-tech look.

The interior of the new Tata Punch.ev appears to carry the same design as the current model, right down to the upholstery. Tata Motors will offer it with features like a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, a wireless smartphone charger, a 360-degree camera system, and Blind Spot View Monitor.
