MG line-up in India could grow from six vehicles to over ten in a short span of less than two years

JSW MG Motor is set to initiate a major new product offensive soon. According to recent media reports, the company has lined up around six models for launch by next year, and most of them should arrive this year. Last year, JSW MG Motor added two new models to its line-up – the Cyberster and M9, expanding its portfolio to six cars. The company also rolled out a second facelift for the Hector. A new report from The Economic Times says that it will launch four SUVs this year.

JSW MG Motor’s first launch this year will be the Majestor, a facelifted version of the Gloster. The company recently conducted its media drive and opened pre-bookings. It plans to announce the prices in April and commence deliveries in May.

A recent Autocar India report says that JSW MG Motor plans to launch a new model codenamed ‘520’ in electric and plug-in hybrid variants by October, which could be two of the three launches scheduled this calendar year. This model is likely to be an adapted version of the Wuling Starlight 560, a low-cost SUV developed by GM-SAIC-Wuling, also marketed internationally as the Wuling Eksion.

At 4,745 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,755 mm tall, the Wuling Starlight 560 is comparable to the Mahindra XUV 7XO. It has a 2,810 mm wheelbase and is available in 5- and 7-seat versions. JSW MG Motor may offer both versions to give customers flexibility between efficiency and space.

In China, the plug-in hybrid variant employs a 105 hp/130 Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 194 hp/230 Nm permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). An e-CVT sends drive to the wheels. A 20.5 kWh LFP battery pack powers the PMSM and delivers a zero-emission range of 125 kilometres, as per CLTC. The plug-in hybrid variant has a top speed of 170 km/h.

The electric variant uses a lower-output PMSM with 134 hp and 200 Nm of torque, along with a larger, 56.7 kWh LFP battery pack. It can travel up to 500 kilometres on a single charge, also as per CLTC. The electric variant maxes out at 160 km/h, though.

Preparing for the expansion of its vehicle line-up, JSW MG Motor is planning to expand its production capacity as well, from 1.2 lakh units to about 3 lakh units. It will also localise more components to reduce production costs and price its vehicles more attractively. The company is eyeing an investment of 4,000-5,000 crore rupees in new products, capacity expansion, and more localisation.

7-Seat Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Likely Arriving Soon – Spied

GaadiWaadi -

2026 toyota hyryder 7 seater spied

New 7-seat SUV from Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) to challenge mainly the Hyundai Alcazar, not the significantly larger Mahindra XUV 7XO

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is developing a new 7-seat SUV targeted at large families and could launch it in late 2026. The company has started testing this model on public roads, a spy shot has revealed. Initially, TKM planned to develop a three-row version of the Corolla Cross sold internationally. Codenamed ‘Toyota 340 D,’ the model was cancelled in 2024 due to its lack of commercial viability. Now, TKM is developing a low-cost model to challenge the Hyundai Alcazar, derived from the Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

The 7-seat Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder appears to feature largely the same exterior as the regular version. At the front, the three-row SUV has familiar proportions and flaunts split headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, protective wheel arch cladding and matching rocker panels, a sleek glasshouse, and slim tail lamps that extended to the rear quarter panels.

TKM appears to have kept the wheelbase unchanged and extended the rear of the vehicle to make room for a third row. The additional row of seats would compromise the boot space, which is up to 373 litres in the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, depending on the variant. The third row may come with amenities like USB Type-C ports, cupholders, and dedicated AC vents.

The 7-seat Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder may come with other features like a power tailgate with gesture control, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, ventilated front seats with 8-way electric adjustment for the driver, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a cooled wireless smartphone charger. On the safety front, expect Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems, a 360º camera system, six airbags, and more.

TKM may launch the 7-seat Urban Cruiser Hyryder in the same mild-hybrid and full-hybrid variants as the 5-seat version. The former features a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 75.8 kW (102 hp) and 136.8 Nm of torque, while the latter combines a 68 kW (91 hp)/122 Nm 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a 59 kW (79 hp)/141 Nm AC synchronous motor.

The mild-hybrid variant will likely be available with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the full-hybrid variant should feature an e-CVT. The prototype spotted on test featured an all-wheel drive system, which will likely be offered as an option in the mild-hybrid variant equipped with the 6-speed automatic transmission.

The 7-seat Maruti Grand Vitara that was rumoured before the launch of the Victoris last year might still be in the pipeline and could be launched around the same time as the 7-seat Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

2026 Tata Punch EV Facelift Spotted Undisguised Ahead Of Launch

Tata Punch EV Facelift Spotted

Tata Punch EV facelift revealed ahead of February 20 launch

The upcoming Tata Punch EV facelift has been spotted on Indian roads without camouflage, revealing its updated styling ahead of its scheduled launch on February 20. While Tata had earlier previewed the front-end design, the latest sighting provides a clearer look at the exterior changes across the compact electric SUV.

At the front, the Punch EV facelift features a revised bumper with a cleaner appearance, removing the connecting black trim seen on the current model. The lower air dam and skid plate have also been redesigned. The Y-shaped LED daytime running lamps and centrally mounted charging flap remain unchanged. Along the sides, the overall profile appears similar to the outgoing version, though new alloy wheel designs may be introduced on select variants. Tata has also confirmed additional colour options, including brown and bright yellow shades.

The rear design incorporates a full-width LED light bar, similar to the recently updated ICE-powered Punch. The rear bumper design also mirrors that of its petrol counterpart. These updates give the electric version a more cohesive look in line with the broader Punch range refresh.

Mechanically, the Punch EV facelift is expected to retain the existing 25kWh and 35kWh battery pack options. The smaller battery version produces 82 HP and 114 Nm, while the larger unit delivers 122 HP and 190 Nm. The current ARAI-certified range stands at 265 km and 365 km respectively, though minor revisions to claimed figures may accompany the update. Prices are likely to see a modest increase over the existing Rs. 9.99 lakhs to Rs. 14.44 lakhs range, with the facelift continuing to rival the Citroen eC3 in the compact EV segment.

TVS, Bajaj & Hero Tighten Grip On e-Scooter Market With Over 60% Market Share

GaadiWaadi -

TVS-Orbiter-1.jpg

TVS Motor Company surpassed the milestone of selling over one lakh electric scooters in a single quarter during Q3 FY26 in the electric two-wheeler space

The electric two-wheeler arena has entered a new phase of competition in 2026 with legacy manufacturers firmly taking control after years of startups having the upper hand. According to data compiled by JATO Dynamics, traditional brands collectively accounted for around 60 percent of total segment share by the first month of the new CY.

The surge has been led by established giants such as TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp which together have capitalised on their nationwide dealership reach, deeper vendor ecosystems and manufacturing capacity. Their scale allows faster production ramp-ups, improved spare-parts access and after-sales coverage compared to smaller rivals.

Consumer preferences have also evolved alongside the market. Early adopters once sought after innovation and price advantages but mainstream buyers are now giving more importance to reliability, ease of service, long term ownership costs and brand reassurance. The behavioural change has tilted demand toward companies with proven track records.

Bajaj-Chetak-3001.jpg

TVS, the Hosur-based manufacturer, has been among the biggest beneficiaries of this transition. By expanding its electric portfolio which comprises iQube and Orbiter, strengthening supply chains and targeting multiple customer segments, it surpassed the milestone of selling over one lakh electric scooters in a single quarter during Q3 FY26.

Even earlier supply disruptions did little to slow its growth trajectory. Bajaj’s recovery story has also been notable. After facing battery procurement constraints that temporarily affected production, the firm stabilised sourcing and scaled output again. A rebound in the December quarter helped it reclaim the second spot in electric scooter volumes – supported by an expanded Chetak range.

Hero-Vida-VX2-2.jpg

Startup performance, however, has been uneven rather than uniformly weak. Ather Energy posted encouraging quarterly gains driven by demand for its family-oriented Rizta model and operational streamlining. On the other hand, Ola Electric has experienced huge share erosion due to challenges in scaling service infrastructure and maintaining consistent customer experience.

Despite intensifying rivalry, the category itself is still at a relatively early stage compared with India’s overall two-wheeler market. Adoption is steadily increasing thanks to safer battery technology, wider charging and service access, improving resale and supportive policy measures.
