5 Soon-Launching New Midsize ICE SUVs In India – Mahindra To Nissan

GaadiWaadi -

Sierra SUV

Here we have explained about the soon-arriving new midsize ICE SUVs in India over the next year and a half

A major reshuffle is brewing in India’s midsize SUV segment. The next 18 months will see a concentrated rollout of new models across multiple lineups. Mahindra, Nissan, Renault, Tata and Kia are each preparing their next moves – ranging from brand new offerings to entirely new generations of existing SUVs. From what is known so far, the pace and scale of updates will reset the competitive landscape. Here is everything you need to know:

1. New Tata Sierra

2025 tata sierra

Tata’s brand new Sierra will first arrive as a battery-electric model with its market launch targeted before the close of the current financial year. The EV is expected to draw a lot from the Harrier EV in terms of architecture and component set. A petrol- and diesel-powered version is planned to follow. The internal combustion lineup will consist of Tata’s new 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit along with the existing 2.0-litre diesel.

2. New Kia Seltos:

The next-generation Kia Seltos has been seen testing on public roads several times in recent months. While Kia has yet to formally confirm its timeline, the updated SUV is expected to reach the Indian market sometime in 2026. A complete redesign is on the cards externally while the interior will likely see a full rework – both in terms of features and material quality. Separate reports continue to suggest that a hybrid powertrain could also be part of the new package.

Mahindra has begun work on the updated XUV700 with its market reveal expected in early 2026. No major changes are likely on the mechanical front as the 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines could carry over unchanged. The facelift is expected to bring minor exterior alterations, interior updates and additions to the features list as part of the mid-cycle revision.

4. New Renault Duster:

Renault is preparing to reintroduce the Duster to the Indian market, this time in a more technically advanced form. The new-generation model will be underpinned by the CMF-B+ platform which is currently being localised for production in India. A hybrid powertrain is expected to be part of the setup – marking a significant departure from the earlier Duster.

Nissan is working on a four-model product plan for the Indian market with a compact MPV leading the rollout. The MPV will share its platform with the Renault Triber. Following that, a midsize SUV is also in development, positioned as a spiritual successor to the Terrano. Launch timelines for the SUV point to an arrival in the early phase of the upcoming financial year.

Honda Files Patent For Shine-Based Electric Bike – Details

GaadiWaadi -

Honda Shine Based Electric Bike

Honda is preparing to debut in the electric bike segment with a new Shine-based EV, Likely to feature swappable battery technology

Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India Limited (HMSI) has already entered the electric two-wheeler segment with the launch of the Activa e and QC1 earlier this year. It seems like the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer is now working on a new electric motorcycle, which will likely be based on the Shine commuter bike. While the details regarding the powertrain and launch timeline are scarce at the moment, the latest patent filed by the company gives some clarity on what to expect from the brand’s first electric bike.

Going by the patent images, the electric bike seems to be sharing the chassis with the Shine 100, however, some changes will be carried out to the main frame in order to accommodate the electric motor and battery pack. It gets two small battery packs, which are expected to be swappable units, something we have already seen in the Activa e.

Honda is actively working on establishing battery swapping networks across major cities in India, and the Shine-based EV will likely benefit from the system. This also points to the fact that the Shine electric could share the battery pack with the Active e, consisting of two 1.5 kWh units (total 3 kWh), as the brand’s swappable battery packs come in a fixed size.

Honda Shine-Based Electric Bike patent2

The Shine-based electric two-wheeler will be targeted at the entry-level commuter segment. The patent images throw some light on the styling of the e-bike, and it shares some resemblance with the Shine 100. A wraparound headlamp, long single-piece seat, 17-inch alloy wheels, telescopic front forks and a regular tube-type handlebar are some of the visible design highlights.

The majority of electric two-wheelers in the Indian market are ground-up EVs, however, Honda is taking the alternate route of converting the ICE platform to EV, which is not a common practice. The major advantage of this setup is cost savings, and the overall development process takes less time, resulting in faster product delivery.

Honda Shine-Based Electric Bike patent1

Honda will likely carry forward the Shine nameplate in its EV guise, and it could be dubbed Shine e, a familiar naming strategy which we saw in the case of the Activa e. Once launched, the Shine-based electric motorcycle will go up against the likes of Ola Roadster X, Oben Rorr EZ and Revolt RV amongst others in the Indian market.

Creta, Venue And Exter Drive Nearly Two-Thirds Of Hyundai’s June 2025 Sales

GaadiWaadi -

Hyundai Creta (1)

Hyundai’s highly localised SUVs, namely the Creta, Venue, and Exter, are key to its Indian operations. Last month, these models collectively contributed nearly two-thirds of the company’s sales

June 2025 was a slow month for the Indian auto industry, with many automakers posting sales in the red. Hyundai was no exception, registering a 12% year-over-year decline. The company delivered 44,024 cars last month, as compared to 50,103 units in June 2024.

As usual, the Creta was Hyundai’s most popular model in India last month, with 15,786 units sold. The VW Taigun rival outsold all other Hyundais by more than two times. Compared to June 2024 (16,293 units), it saw only a marginal decline of 3%.

The Venue was the second-highest selling Hyundai model in India in June 2025, registering 6,858 units. Compared to June 2024 (9,890 units), the sub-4 metre SUV saw a significant dip of 31% in sales. The Exter, positioned further lower in the line-up, saw sales of 5,873 units in June 2025, 15% lower than June 2024 (6,908 units).

Hyundai Venue

The Creta, Venue, and Exter together contributed 28,517 units or 65% to Hyundai’s sales last month. This just goes on to show how crucial the success of these three models is among the brand’s extensive line-up of ten models at the moment. As for the Aura, the company shipped 5,413 units of the sub-4 metre sedan last month, 26% more than in June 2024 (4,299 units).

The Grand i10 and i20, Hyundai’s only two hatchbacks available in Indian showrooms, contributed 4,237 and 3,785 units to its June 2025 sales, respectively. The Grand i10 saw a year-over-year decline of 14% and the i20 saw a year-over-year decline of 29%. Next in line was the Alcazar, with 1,174 units delivered, 33% more than in June 2024 (882 units).

Hyundai’s worst-performing locally manufactured car in June 2025 was the Verna. The company delivered just 813 units of the premium sedan last month, 43% lower than in the same month last year (1,424 units). The Tucson and Ioniq 5, assembled locally from imported CKD kits, didn’t perform well either. The Tucson’s sales reduced by 36% from 114 units in June last year to 73 units last month. The Ioniq 5 similarly saw its sales decline by 60% from 30 units to just 12 units. Facelifted versions of both these imports are expected to be launched later this year.
