Hyundai secured the second spot by toppling Mahindra with sales of 44,001 units in the domestic market in India

Hyundai India has bounced back by clinching the second position from Mahindra in the domestic sales of Aug 2025. The South-Korean automaker retailed a total of 44,001 units last month as compared to 49,525 units in Aug 2024. Hence, it recorded a YoY de-growth of 11 percent while the MoM performance was nearly similar as the company had sold 43,973 units in July 2025. Despite the YoY de-growth, Hyundai was able to dethrone Mahindra and reclaim the second spot, which it has held for the longest period of time in the past.

Hyundai’s success story in Aug 2025 sales was spearheaded by the Creta SUV with volumes of 15,924 units as it went on to become the third highest-sold model last month in the Indian market. This is something not very new as the Seoul-based Korean automaker has been selling 15k+ units of the Creta every month for the last few years in the country.

The Venue, which is about to get a new-gen version in the next few days, had sales of 8,109 units in Aug 2025 as compared to 9,085 units sold during the same month last year. We expect the sales of Venue compact SUV to rise in the next few days due to heavy price reduction propelled by the 2025 GST reforms. In addition, the new-gen model will be more advanced, up-market and premium than the ongoing iteration of the SUV.

Hyundai Aura sales jumped to 5,336 units in Aug 2025 from 4,304 units in Aug 2024 while registering a YoY growth of 24 percent. The sedan is sold in petrol and CNG fuel trims as it rivals Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, and Tata Tigor in the Indian market. The recent price cut due to GST 2.0 also helped in the rising sales of the Aura.

The Exter too had sales in excess of 5k units last month. It was followed by two hatch models namely Grand i10 and i20 as both clocked volumes in the ballpark of 3.5k-4k units, which is quite less than sales of last year. The drop in sales numbers could be attributed to outdated design and features while the rivals are fully loaded with bells and whistles.

Hyundai sold 1,187 units of the Alcazar 7-seater SUV in Aug 2025. The sales of Verna midsized sedan further deteriorated and came down to merely 771 units. The Tucson too performed quite badly with volumes of just 57 units last month. Last but not the least, the Ioniq 5 electric sedan had sales of 14 units in Aug 2025 as compared to 40 units in Aug 2024.

Hyundai India will launch several new cars and SUVs in the coming few months, which includes the new-gen Venue, Ioniq 5 facelift and a small electric SUV based on the Inster. While the new-gen Venue will launch on Oct 24, the Ioniq 5 facelift is likely to go on sale from Feb 2026 followed by the Inster-based SUV in late 2026.

All-New Tata Sierra To Arrive In Two Iterations – Key Details

GaadiWaadi -

2025-Tata-Sierra-ICE-3.jpg

Tata Sierra EV will be launched before the end of this FY while the ICE version will follow it up, powered by a 1.5L petrol and a 2.0L diesel engine

The production-spec Tata Sierra was finally showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 – announcing the return of the iconic nameplate. Over the past several months, camouflaged prototypes have ensured the SUV remains in the spotlight as road tests progress across India. Tata plans to introduce the Sierra EV first with its launch expected ahead of the ICE-powered petrol and diesel versions in early 2026.

The Tata Sierra gets a wide horizontal grille, sharp headlamp units and a connected LED light bar upfront – set off by large bumper cutouts. At the back, the SUV carries an upright stance with a slim tail lamp strip, sporty spoiler and a sculpted bumper. The blacked-out roof goes well with the panoramic sunroof – giving the SUV a unique floating roof finish.

With its stretched wheelbase, steeply raked windshield and tall pillars, the midsize SUV’s interior will more likely offer a spacious feel. On the outside, muscular wheel arches and flush-style door handles add to the modernity. While the EV and ICE versions will share most of their design cues, subtle styling tweaks will set them apart.

Tata will likely position the new Sierra slightly above the Curvv with prices expected to fall between Rs. 13 lakh and Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric variant will pack modern charging capabilities – offering DC fast charging along with bidirectional technology such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) power transfer.

In the ICE range, the upcoming Tata Sierra is expected to feature a brand new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine producing 168 PS and 280 Nm and the proven 2.0-litre diesel rated at 170 PS and 350 Nm. Buyers can expect both six-speed manual and six-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes to be on offer while drive and terrain modes will also be offered.

While Tata has not officially revealed if the Sierra EV will inherit the Harrier EV’s dual-motor layout and lifetime battery warranty, these are widely speculated to be part of the package. The electric SUV is also expected to deliver a range of over 500 km.

Inside the cabin, buyers can look forward to a tech-packed setup featuring a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an extra 12.3-inch display angled towards the driver along with a 360-degree camera system, a four-spoke steering wheel, Level 2 ADAS suite, powered and ventilated seats and so on.

Top 25 Selling Cars In August 2025 Revealed, Maruti Ertiga Leads

The Maruti Ertiga emerges as the best-selling model of August 2025. The list includes 10 cars from Maruti, 4 each from Hyundai and Tata, 3 from Mahindra, and others. Toyota and Kia have two cars each, while MG, Honda, Isuzu, Skoda, and BYD contribute one car.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga topped the chart with 18,445 units sold, thanks to its popular CNG variants driving the sales. The Dzire slipped to second place with 16,509 units, despite maintaining strong volumes from fleet demand. Hyundai Creta secured the third position by dispatching 15,924 units across India.

Maruti Wagon-R held the fourth spot with 14,552 units, continuing to dominate the hatchback category. Tata Nexon followed closely, securing fifth place with over 14,000 units dispatched in August. These results highlight sustained demand for compact SUVs and value-focused hatchbacks.

Despite strong individual performers, the overall industry numbers indicated a decline compared to last year. Passenger vehicle wholesales dropped to 327,719 units, against 354,273 units in August 2024. Several major manufacturers, including Maruti, Hyundai, and Mahindra, recorded negative year-on-year growth.

Out of the 25 bestsellers, nearly 16 models showed negative growth compared to August 2024. This indicates market strain despite strong SUV and CNG sales. Consumer preference continues to centre on practicality, affordability, and fuel efficiency.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid Spied With LiDAR Sensors, ADAS Coming Too?

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid ADAS Spied

Maruti Suzuki could introduce a hybrid version of the Fronx sometime next year in India, equipped with a Level 2 ADAS system

Several months ago, a prototype of the Fronx was spotted testing wearing a hybrid badge – arousing the speculations that it could be one of the hybrid models arriving in India in the near future. It is no secret that Maruti Suzuki is currently developing an in-house strong hybrid system for India but its launch timeline remains a mystery.

Now, a couple of spy images of an undisguised Fronx test mule have appeared on the internet clearly indicating the presence of LiDAR sensors. They are typically used for ADAS calibration as the Light Detection and Ranging sensors equip laser pulses to map the surroundings in 3D with high accuracy to detect object and tracking, measure distance and speed, 360° situational awareness, redundancy, safety, etc.

The Fronx compact SUV coupe is already available in Southeast Asian markets with an ADAS suite enabling features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Lane Departure Warning and Prevention systems, Vehicle Swaying and Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), High Beam Assist (HBA) and more.

Thus, we can expect it to arrive in India as early as next year. Recently, Suzuki commenced local assembly of the Fronx in Indonesia with an annual sales target of around 24,000 units and it could be exported to other ASEAN markets as well. Initially debuted in early 2023 in India, the Fronx is already sold in over 70 countries and territories across the globe.

In Indonesia, the Fronx is retailed with a regular 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine. The gearbox choices are a five-speed MT, a four-speed torque converter automatic and a six-speed AT.  The K15C mild-hybrid petrol unit kicks out 101 PS maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 135 Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm.

The standard naturally-aspirated petrol engine is 4 PS more powerful and 3 Nm torquier. The six-speed AT is available with an all-wheel drive system as well. Recently, Suzuki announced the next generation 48-volt ‘Super Ene-Charge’ (SEC) hybrid system which will play an integral part in achieving carbon neutrality globally in the future.

It will be interesting to see which engine will be utilised to bring up a hybrid system as an existing 1.2L NA petrol or a turbo mill could be considered. Moreover, a 1.5L turbo hybrid petrol mill cannot be ruled out the equation.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Caught Testing Again, Launch Soon?

GaadiWaadi -

2025 volkswagen taigun facelift

Volkswagen Taigun facelift will more likely be introduced before this year’s end or in early 2026 with cosmetic changes and feature additions

Volkswagen’s India lineup is in for a shake-up with the Taigun SUV set to receive its first major refresh. The midsize SUV, which has been on sale for a few years now, has managed to carve out a respectable following and the company is hoping to capitalise on that momentum with a mid-cycle facelift. A test prototype of the updated Taigun has already been caught on camera – wearing camouflage to hide the revisions.

The latest prototype of the Taigun facelift doesn’t give much away – the mirrors, roof rails and spoiler with an integrated stop lamp seem unchanged while the connected C-shaped LED tail lamps also mirror the current setup. Despite the camouflage covering the nose and tail, it is clear that Volkswagen is only preparing mild updates rather than a drastic redesign.

VW will keep the Taigun’s silhouette and size untouched but the revised model should get new paint choices and alloy wheels to lift its visual appeal. The bigger tweaks will be concentrated at the front, where a reworked grille, revised bumper and updated headlamps are expected. The facelift could be introduced either towards the end of this year or slip into an early 2026 launch timeframe.

2025-volkswagen-taigun-facelift-1.jpg

Interestingly, Skoda has its Kushaq facelift on test runs as well reinforcing the fact that both siblings are being readied in parallel. Since its debut back in September 2021, the Taigun has become a backbone product for Volkswagen in India. While exterior revisions will be mild, the inside story is expected to be far more dramatic with a revamped cabin layout, added features and the possible inclusion of a Level 2 ADAS package.

Volkswagen is expected to pack the Taigun facelift with a comprehensive ADAS suite including features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and rear cross-traffic alert. Under the hood, the SUV will stick to its tried-and-tested 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines.

Also Read: 2 Upcoming Skoda & Volkswagen Cars To Hit Indian Roads This Year

The 1.0-litre turbo petrol will continue to push out 115 PS and 178 Nm while the bigger 1.5-litre unit will continue to deliver 150 PS and 250 Nm. Transmission duties are expected to be handled by the familiar six-speed manual, six-speed torque converter automatic and the seven-speed DSG.

Interestingly, whispers in the industry suggest Volkswagen could introduce an eight-speed automatic as well – though that may come at a later phase in the model’s lifecycle. The next-gen Taigun is at least a couple of years away while its three-row iteration may also arrive at a later stage.

Popular Mahindra SUVs Getting Big Updates Soon – 5 New Launches

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra Vision S (2)

The popular Thar, Scorpio and XUV700 nameplates will be strengthened with the arrival of new updates and more iterations

Mahindra is preparing for a packed product cycle as several launches are in the pipeline. The mix will include updated versions of its existing bestsellers along with fresh entries to broaden the portfolio. Among the highlights, the Bolero, Thar and XUV700 are each scheduled to receive significant updates in the near future to keep them competitive in their respective segments:

1&2. 3-Door Mahindra Thar Facelift & Thar EV:

Mahindra is actively readying the updated three-door Thar which has been seen testing multiple times in camouflaged form. The SUV will borrow design cues from the Thar Roxx including a refreshed grille, revised alloy wheels and new bumper designs alongside subtle tweaks to the headlamps and tail lamps.

The cabin will mirror that of the Roxx in multiple ways too as new equipment will be introduced. It will go on sale in the coming months while the electric version of the Thar was revealed in its concept form last month and it will be heading to showrooms in the future as well.

3&4. Mahindra XUV 700 Facelift & XEV 7e:

The facelifted Mahindra XUV700 has been spotted on test runs several times. Expected to launch in the first quarter of 2026, the updated SUV will introduce a new look while retaining its familiar proportions. Key changes will likely include redesigned alloy wheels, updated bumpers and a revised grille.

The cabin is where the biggest transformation is expected. Mahindra is reportedly readying an all-new dashboard layout that will introduce a triple-display setup consisting of a large central infotainment screen, a fully digital instrument cluster and a dedicated passenger-side display.

5. New Compact Mahindra Scorpio:

Mahindra revealed four concepts and a new architecture known as the NU_IQ last month. Amongst the highlights was the Vision S concept previewing a more compact version of the Scorpio in its next-gen avatar. Since the test mules have been spotted multiple times already, we can expect it to launch sometime next year but the NU_IQ based models are only set to enter production in 2027.
