The table of top 10 hatchbacks in September 2025 saw Maruti Suzuki WagonR headed the way ahead of its siblings Baleno and Swift

The hatchback segment had an interesting turn out last month at least in som quarters. The biggest headline came from the Maruti Suzuki WagonR which once again proved why it is a mass-market favourite. It posted 18,970 units in October 2025 compared to 13,922 units last year, a massive 36 per cent jump as the GST 2.0 price drop could not have come at a better time.

Right behind it, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno stayed consistent with 16,873 units – only slightly higher than the 16,082 units it managed a year ago. The 5 per cent YoY growth isn’t dramatic but it reinforces that the premium hatchback has a loyal base. In contrast, the Maruti Suzuki Swift slipped to 15,542 units from 17,539 units last year with an 11 per cent drop.

The Tiago posted 8,850 units, up from just 4,682 units last year, resulting in a massive 89 per cent YoY sales surge as it had the highest YoY growth of them all. Its presence in the top five highlights that customers continue to value its safety-first build, affordability and expansive range. The Altroz also climbed strongly to 3,770 units compared to 2,642 units last year with a 43 per cent rise.

Toyota enjoyed one of its strongest months in this segment thanks to the Glanza. With 6,162 units this October versus 4,273 last year, the model grew by 44 per cent and it even beat Alto in the process for sixth position. Toyota’s reliability-driven image paired with Maruti’s proven mechanicals seems to be paying off.

Hyundai’s hatchbacks, however, had a tougher October. The Grand i10 Nios dropped to 5,426 units from 6,235 units, marking a 13 per cent decline. The i20 also slipped sharply from 5,354 units to 4,023 units – a 25 percent drop as the Korean duo could only finish in the seventh and eighth positions respectively in October 2025.

5 New Small SUVs To Launch In Next 2-3 Years In India

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra Vision S

No less than five sub-4 metre SUVs are expected to be introduced in India by 2028, all expected to be priced competitively and packed with a tonne of connectivity and safety features

Offering the road presence and practicality desired by a vast majority of Indian drivers and attracting a lower GST, small SUVs like the Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue are taking the market by storm. In the next two to three years, we will see at least five new models in this already highly competitive segment.

Hyundai never brought the current Bayon to India, but in mid-2026, it will launch the next-gen Bayon in our market. The redesigned model should have a sportier silhouette compared to the Venue, somewhat resembling an SUV-coupe. Hyundai is developing it on the same platform as the next-gen i20 and would position it as a Maruti Fronx rival in our market.

The next-gen Bayon will debut an all-new 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine in India, one planned to be built locally and adapted for a hybrid application. Hyundai will offer it with a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine as well, but there’s no word on the availability of the Venue’s 1.5-litre diesel engine.

In 2027, Tata Motors will likely launch the second-generation Nexon. Despite the first full makeover, the Nexon will continue to be based on the X1 platform, but it will have major structural changes. On the design front, too, the next-gen Nexon will have noticeable revisions. Mahindra will also launch a new small SUV in the same year, designed based on the Vision S concept.

Also planned to be launched in 2027 is the facelifted Maruti Fronx with a series hybrid powertrain, expected to be a game-changer for the Indo-Japanese joint venture. Based on Maruti Suzuki’s all-new Z12E 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, the series hybrid system is expected to deliver a stunning fuel economy of around 35 km/l, a figure unheard of in this segment. The petrol engine will only serve as a generator, and an electric motor will permanently power the front wheels instead.

Seeing the soaring demand for sub-4 metre small SUVs in India and considering the recent reduction in GST on them, Honda is considering entering this segment. The company is expected to bring a Tata Nexon rival to India as one of the ten launches it has planned by 2030. 2027 or 2028 could be the year we may see this happen.

Renault And Nissan To Launch Hyundai Creta Rivals Next Year

GaadiWaadi -

Dacia Duster

Hyundai Creta may have been the king of its segment for years now, but it’s about to see some serious competition from not one but two models next year

Renault and Nissan have not had any exciting new products for years now, but that’s about to change next year. Both alliance brands plan to launch a Hyundai Creta rival in the coming months. On 26 January 2026, Renault will introduce the third-generation Duster in India. Already on sale in global markets, the all-new Duster features a brute exterior that’s almost certain to be a big hit in the hearts of Indian customers, who typically prefer SUVs with boxy and masculine designs.

The all-new Duster will measure around 4,345 mm in length, 1,813 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height (incl. roof rails) and have a 2,658 mm wheelbase. A high ground clearance of at least 210 mm would ensure the SUV easily tackles bumps and potholes.

Rectangular headlamps with integrated Y-shaped DRLs, block-lettered brand inscription, and a high-set bonnet featuring raised corners and lowered central section give the front of the next-gen Duster an assertive and confident first impression. On the sides, raised roof rails, powerful shoulders, and prominent wheel arches continue the rugged styling. At the rear, there’s a deep indentation in the registration plate area in the tailgate and a prominent skid plate aligning with the tough theme of the exterior.

The interior of the next-gen Renault Duster will also have a modern-tough design, complemented by tactile controls that are easy to locate and least distracting in use. A 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless smartphone charger, an electric parking brake, and ventilated seats are among the expected interior features. Renault will offer a wide range of advanced driver assistance systems in the top configurations.

The next-gen Renault Duster will likely be launched with a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. A 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine-based hybrid system will likely follow by early 2027.

Nissan Tekton (2)
Nissan Tekton

Around June 2026, Nissan will launch the successor to the Terrano, called the Tekton. The Nissan Tekton will be a mechanical cousin of the all-new Renault Duster, but it will feature a unique exterior. Save for the shape and the pillar-mounted rear door handles, the exterior will be entirely different. With a prominent model inscription on the hood, connected DRLs, and connected tail lights, the Nissan Tekton will have a slightly flashier exterior.

The Nissan Tekton’s interior may closely resemble the all-new Renault Duster model, while its mechanicals would be completely the same. The Nissan model may carry a slightly higher positioning and be marginally more expensive.

Skoda VW Model Wise Sales Oct 2025 – Kylaq, Slavia, Kushaq, Virtus, Taigun

GaadiWaadi -

Skoda Kylaq SUV

Backed by a new entry-level model, Skoda records a solid growth in sales, while sister brand Volkswagen struggles without one

The Kylaq, Volkswagen Group’s first sub-4 metre car in India in years, is helping Skoda reach new highs. Volkswagen, on the other hand, remains at a disadvantage without a model eligible for the lower GST on smaller cars.

In October 2025, Skoda sold 8,252 cars in India, posting a 102% year-over-year growth in sales. For the record, the company had delivered 4,079 cars in October 2024. The Skoda Kylaq was the main driver of this explosive growth, which was the highest among all carmakers last month.

Skoda sold 5,078 units of the Kylaq in October 2025, and the model single-handedly generated 62% of the brand’s monthly sales. Its strong demand should be compelling enough for Volkswagen to gain the confidence to re-enter the sub-4 metre segment despite the earlier failure with the Ameo.

Compared to 209 units delivered in October 2024, when the company was selling the first-generation model, this marked a 46% rise in sales. The recently launched Octavia RS comes to India via the CBU route and recorded just two units in sales last month.

Hyundai Working On 3 New Hybrid SUVs For India – Key Details

GaadiWaadi -

2025-Hyundai-Palisade-1.jpg

The next-gen Hyundai Creta and an all-new three-row premium SUV are expected to get hybrid treatment around 2027 in India

The hybrid plan of Hyundai for India comprises the arrival of a host of new models. The biggest surprise sits right at the top as the company is weighing whether the Palisade Hybrid can be slotted into the Indian portfolio. Globally, it runs a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol plus electric motor setup which is good enough for 334 hp and 460 Nm.

Despite its large size SUV status, it is claimed to offer mileage north of 14 kmpl. It could be introduced locally in 2028 or slightly before. Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the ladder, the work on the next-gen Creta has reportedly already kicked off in the background. The Creta – internally tagged SX3 – is the bigger long-term project considering its popularity.

It is said to a brand new platform and might get slightly altered proportions along with sharper design details and a completely reworked cabin. The familiar 1.5-litre engine family (petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel) will continue but Hyundai is believed to be developing a proper hybrid variant to go with them based on the NA 1.5L petrol mill.

The Creta EV’s facelift is expected only after the new ICE Creta arrives which puts both events somewhere around 2027. And then there’s the mystery one: an unnamed three-row SUV, floating around rumour circles under the internal label Ni1i. It is meant to sit between the Alcazar and the recently discontinued Tucson – a gap that’s been empty for years.

It is expected to run a hybrid-ready version of Hyundai’s 1.5-litre petrol engine as well. It could also arrive sometime in 2027. Recently, the second largest car producer in the country introduced the new generation Venue for a starting price of Rs. 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). In 2026, the company could introduce a compact electric SUV based on the global Inster.

It will be heavily localised and could be exported to several markets as well. Hyundai is planning to bring in a host of new models till the end of this decade as it looks to increase its market share by expanding its portfolio to compete firmly against Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Mahindra.

Toyota Model Wise Sales Oct 2025 – Innova, Hyryder, Taisor, Rumion, Fortuner

GaadiWaadi -

Toyota Hyryder (2)

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM)’s Maruti Suzuki-derived models drive growth in October 2025, with the popular Innova series also making a significant contribution

Supported by lower GST rates and the typically higher demand during Diwali, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) registered solid growth in sales last month. The company’s deep-rooted collaboration with Maruti Suzuki mainly drove this momentum.

TKM sold 40,257 cars in October 2025, and compared to 28,138 units delivered in October 2024, this marked an impressive 43% growth. While the Innova family continued being the top individual seller, Maruti Suzuki-derived cars collectively accounted for a larger share of the volume than Toyota’s own models.

The Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross combined contributed 11,089 units to TKM’s October 2025 sales. Compared to October 2024 (8,838 units), the premium MPV series saw a 25% growth in sales. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the mechanical cousin of Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara, was the second-highest-selling model, with 11,555 units delivered. This marked a whopping 112% year-over-year growth (October 2024: 5,449 units).
