Maruti Strikes Again: Fronx–Baleno Playbook Repeats With Victoris & Grand Vitara

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Victoris

Maruti Suzuki Victoris has garnered over 30k units since launch while the Grand Vitara helps increase the brand’s volumes in the midsize segment

Last month turned into another appreciable one for Maruti Suzuki in the SUV space with four of its models finding a place inside the overall top ten sales chart. None of them managed a top-four finish, but taken together, the numbers show how the brand relies on volume consistency. Models like the Fronx, Brezza, Victoris and Grand Vitara pulled their weight in different ways.

Leading Maruti’s charge was the Fronx which ended the month in fifth position. It posted sales of 15,058 units, only slightly ahead of the 14,882 units it recorded in November 2024 with a marginal 1 per cent growth. Even so, maintaining monthly volumes at around 15,000 units in a crowded compact SUV space is no small feat.

The compact SUV coupe is based on the same Heartect platform as the Baleno and both are delivering impressive numbers with the latter posting over 13,700 units. The Brezza followed next finishing sixth with 13,947 units sold in the top ten SUVs table. Compared to the 14,918 units sold during the same month last year, this represents a 7 per cent year-on-year decline.

A notable highlight for Maruti Suzuki last month was the Victoris. Ranking seventh overall, it clocked 12,300 units and has gone past the 30,000 sales mark already in just over two months. At the lower end of the top ten, the Grand Vitara secured the tenth spot with sales of 11,339 units.

This was an improvement over the 10,148 units sold in November 2024 – resulting in a 12 per cent year-on-year increase. Along with the Victoris, Maruti’s midsize SUV offerings combined for over 23,000 units during the month. They are based on the same platform and have several commonalities in terms of features and appeal, and they overlap in prices too.

However, the new Victoris is sold through the regular Arena outlets while the Grand Vitara can be bought only through the Nexa premium chain appealing to a slightly different set of consumers. They share the same engine lineup but the design separates them largely. Their clever positioning helps Maruti Suzuki garner more volumes in the midsize space and it will be compounded by the launch of the e Vitara next month.

Tata Sierra Sets New Fuel Efficiency Record

The newly launched Tata Sierra has set a new fuel efficiency record at the world class NATRAX test track in Indore, MP. The Sierra achieved an incredible fuel efficiency of 29.9 km/l in a span of 12 hours.

The Tata Sierra was driven non stop from 7 AM to 7 PM with only brief halts for driver swaps. It was the new turbo petrol engine from Tata that set this record. The 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engine delivers 160 PS and 255 Nm and is offered with a 6-speed AT.

The Sierra petrol also achieved a top speed of 222 km/hr at NATRAX. However, the automaker will limit the speed to 190 km/hr on customer cars. The fuel efficiency test was also done under a controlled environment with professional drivers and the automaker urged users to not replicate such behaviour on public roads.

The previous record for fuel efficiency was held by the Volkswagen Taigun 1.0 TSI which delivered 29.8 km/l with 24 hours of continuous driving on the same track.

Mahindra & Mahindra posted total domestic dispatches of 56,336 units with a year-on-year rise of 22 per cent in November 2025. Despite this growth, month-on-month numbers dipped by 21 per cent from October’s higher tally of 71,624 units. In the overall manufacturer rankings, Mahindra finished third for the month, behind Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors, securing a market share of around 13.5 per cent.

The Mahindra Thar remained another key pillar for the brand. It recorded 10,234 units in November resulting in an 18 per cent year-on-year increase. Compared to October’s 12,029 units, sales fell by 15 per cent due to the softer discretionary buying after the festive period. The XUV 3XO added further momentum with 10,601 units sold – up 38 per cent year-on-year. While month-on-month volumes declined by 13 per cent, the compact SUV undoubtedly strengthens Mahindra’s presence in the sub-four-metre segment. In contrast, the XUV 700 struggled, posting 6,176 units – down 32 per cent year-on-year and 39 per cent lower than October but the arrival of the facelifted XUV 7XO is highly awaited.

Kia Seltos Hybrid Confirmed – Launch & Other Key Details

GaadiWaadi -

All-new Kia Seltos Hybrid coming to global markets early next year, but India to get a different configuration later

Kia has big plans for the all-new Seltos in India, which is set to be the fully redesigned model’s first market worldwide. The company will start sales in January and has already started planning for the first-ever hybrid variant.

According to a new report from Autocar Professional, the all-new Kia Seltos Hybrid will likely go on sale in India by June 2027. Kia engineered the latest model to be compatible with a hybrid system from the beginning, but it wants to localise many of the core additional components to ensure competitive pricing, and that will take some time.

Atul Sood, the Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Kia India, has hinted that the company may offer hybrid technology first on another model before the all-new Seltos. In all likelihood, Sood was referring to the Sorento Hybrid, which the company has already imported from South Korea for local testing and is widely expected to launch around the festive season this year.

New Kia Seltos 4

The Sorento Hybrid’s powertrain is a more advanced, higher-output unit based on a larger, 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Kia may use this model to showcase its engineering prowess and raise customer awareness of hybrid technology to build interest well ahead of the Seltos Hybrid’s launch.

Globally, Kia will use a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine in the Seltos Hybrid. The company does not manufacture this engine in India or has any plans to localise it in the near future. To keep the development and production costs in check, it will likely adapt the regular all-new Seltos’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which it does produce locally.

New Kia Seltos (3)

In the all-new Seltos, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine develops 114 hp and 144 Nm of torque, but Kia may retune it for the Seltos Hybrid. We expect the latter to easily deliver a fuel economy of close to 25 km/l.

This electrification should translate to a 35-40% gain in fuel economy over the regular all-new Seltos with the same engine. The Seltos Hybrid will also offer the convenience of vehicle-to-load bi-directional charging, allowing customers to power external devices using the energy stored in the traction battery pack.
