Tata Motors set to make its long-awaited entry in the mid-size SUV segment next year, while Renault returns after a four-year hiatus and Nissan makes a comeback after five years

The mid-size SUV is one of the most enticing segments in the Indian car market, growing at a strong pace and promising high margins. Tata Motors, Renault, and Nissan are among the few mass-market brands having no presence in the segment at the moment, but that’s about to change next year.

1. All-new Tata Sierra

After years of contemplating entering the mid-size SUV segment, including once with a model based on one of Chinese automaker Chery’s platforms, Tata Motors will finally fill the key whitespace in its line-up with all-new Sierra in the first quarter of 2026. The upcoming model will be based on an in-house mixed energy platform that supports both ICE and electric vehicles.

2025-Tata-Sierra-Spied.jpg

Previewed in near-production form at Auto Expo 2025, the all-new Tata Sierra will be one of the brand’s most advanced models to date. From triple dashboard displays to a four-seat lounge version, the segment’s most powerful engines, and AWD capability, it will have something for everyone, including tech-savvy and comfort-seeking customers and even those with an active lifestyle.

A first-ever Sierra.ev will precede the all-new Sierra, competing with the likes of Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti e Vitara. Unlike its rivals, it will likely be available in not only 2WD but also AWD. The AWD variant will have two motors, a primary unit driving the front wheels and a second one powering the rear wheels when more traction or extra power is needed.

Tata Sierra SUV

As for the ICE variant, Tata Motors will likely offer it with a 1.5-litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine and a naturally aspirated version of the same, as well as a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The turbocharged petrol engine produces 168 hp and 280 Nm of torque, while the turbocharged diesel engine is expected to develop 116 hp and 260 Nm of torque. 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic could be the transmission choices.

2. Next-gen Renault Duster

After skipping the second generation, the Renault Duster will make a comeback in the third generation. Also expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2026, the all-new Renault Duster will set itself apart with a brawny character and sheer ruggedness, attributes that once made it the top pick in its segment.

Dacia Duster

Already on sale internationally, the third-gen Duster is 4.3 metres long, 1.8 metres wide, and 1.7 metres tall and has a 2.7-metre wheelbase. The latest model is far more sophisticated in style, tech, comfort, and safety compared to the first-gen model we’ve known in India. Renault equips it with features like 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless smartphone charger, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wide range of advanced driver assistance systems. That said, it is likely to miss a sunroof, one of the most popular features in this segment, again.

2024-renault-duster-3.jpg

Renault will likely launch the next-gen Duster with 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines at launch. A 6-speed manual transmission and a CVT are expected with these engines. An AWD system is available internationally, and we expect that to be an option in our market. Within a year of launch, the company will introduce a hybrid variant aimed at customers ready to pay a premium for significantly higher fuel economy and eco-friendliness.

3. Nissan Midsize SUV

Not long after Renault releases the third-gen Duster in India, Nissan will launch a corporate cousin that serves as the successor to the Terrano. The Japanese automaker has not confirmed the name of this model but has indicated via teasers that unlike the Terrano, it will have a design completely different from its Renault counterpart, inspired by the seventh-gen Nissan Patrol.

The yet-to-be-named Nissan mid-size SUV should come with the same set of engines and transmissions as the next-gen Renault Duster. Similarly, it may gain a hybrid powertrain at a later stage.

Tata Motors To Launch Four Petrol Cars This Fiscal

GaadiWaadi -

Updated Tata Safari Spied2

Tata Motors to double down on petrol models this fiscal, targeting new customers on a stricter budget and with low usage

Tata Motors plans to launch four new petrol cars in India this fiscal, giving customers affordable model options across budget and premium segments. The move will particularly make its flagship products more accessible.

1. Tata Punch facelift

The Tata Punch, the company’s best-selling model, is already available with a petrol engine. Sometime in October, it is expected to be replaced by a facelifted model that features a refreshed exterior with new designs for the bumpers, grilles, and 16-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the new Punch will likely have a new digital instrument cluster that enhances its appeal for tech-savvy drivers. Another upgrade in that regard should be a two-spoke steering wheel with a flattened bottom and an illuminated brand logo.

tata punch facelift

Tata Motors will offer the new Punch with the familiar 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 87 hp and 115 Nm of torque, as well as its bi-fuel version that can run even on CNG. In CNG mode, the power and torque drop to 72 hp and 103 Nm, respectively. 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual will be the transmission options, with the latter reserved for the petrol variant.

2. Tata Sierra

The Tata Sierra is set to make a comeback early next year. Tata Motors plans to offer the all-new Sierra with not one but two petrol engine options, both of which it has not offered in any other products so far.

Sierra SUV

A 1.5-litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine producing 168 hp and 280 Nm of torque would cater to performance enthusiasts. A 1.5-litre naturally aspirated version of this engine is also planned, aimed at customers who give fuel economy and affordability a higher priority. Both engines should come with a 6-speed manual transmission, and at least the turbocharged one should have an automatic option, too.

3. Tata Harrier

The Tata Harrier will also gain the 1.5-litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine that develops 168 hp and 280 Nm of torque, possibly sometime in the January-March period. Tata Motors should offer it with both a 6-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission.

tata harrier facelift-18

The new engine should make the Tata Harrier more appealing not only because of a lower price but also because of lower maintenance. Customers with both a smaller budget and low usage will find the petrol option more suitable. Additionally, customers in Delhi and other metro cities who fear potential temporary usage restrictions or tight phase-out deadlines for diesel cars may also finally consider buying this model now.

4. Tata Safari

Updated Tata Safari Spied3

The aforementioned 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and its transmission options should extend to the Tata Safari also in the January-March period. Given that it’s a three-row model, offered with six- and seven-seats, whether its power and torque will be sufficient remains to be seen.

Tata Officially Announces GST Price Reduction – Up To Rs. 1.55 Lakh

GaadiWaadi -

tata nexon facelift-21

Tata has announced price drops for the Nexon, Safari, Harrier, Altroz and its compact siblings following the ease in GST slab

Tata Motors has announced a sweeping price revision across its passenger vehicle range following the government’s decision to reduce GST on cars and SUVs. The updated prices will be effective from September 22, 2025 onwards with the company confirming that buyers will receive the full benefit of the tax cut.

The changes are substantial as you might expect. The Nexon compact SUV sees the steepest drop with prices reduced by up to Rs. 1.55 lakh. The more premium SUVs such as the Safari and Harrier follow closely – getting relief of up to Rs. 1.45 lakh and Rs. 1.40 lakh respectively. Among hatchbacks, the Altroz will be cheaper by as much as Rs. 1.10 lakh.

Meanwhile, the entry-level Tiago compact hatch and Tigor compact sedan are set to see reductions of Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 80,000 respectively. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, called the tax cut a “progressive reform” that will bring personal mobility within reach for more customers. He emphasised that Tata Motors would honour the intent of the policy by passing on the entire benefit to customers across its portfolio.

With the festive season well and truly on for this year, the revised pricing is expected to fuel a surge in demand as it could not have come at a better time. Tata Motors has urged customers to finalise bookings early to avoid long waiting periods as delivery requests are likely to climb once the lower prices are rolled out.

The revised tags come at a critical juncture for Tata as it looks to expand its reach in both entry-level and premium segments. The GST price cuts will make the value proposition of its models that much sweeter while also strengthening the brand’s competitive edge. It comes on the back of the revisions announced by the central government a few days ago.

A major beneficiary of this tax reform is the hybrid vehicle category. Compact cars powered by petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG, as well as hybrids, which earlier attracted 28 per cent GST, will now be levied at only 18 per cent. The revised rate applies to vehicles with engines under 1500 cc and measuring up to 4,000 mm in length.

2025 Yamaha R15 series gains new colour schemes which include the introduction of the Matte Pearl White finish on the R15 V4

Yamaha has given its R15 lineup a splash of freshness for 2025 introducing a set of new colour options for the R15 M, R15 V4 and the R15 S motorcycles. With the update, the entry point into the R15 family now begins at Rs. 1.67 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Among the highlights is the arrival of the globally popular Matte Pearl White finish on the R15 V4.

This is the first time the shade is being offered in India. The same motorcycle also gets a reworked Racing Blue paint scheme with sportier graphics and a Metallic Black colour that was specifically developed following strong customer feedback according to the brand. The R15M, meanwhile, gains a new Metallic Grey as part of the MY update.

At the other end, the R15 S now comes dressed in a stealthy Matte Black paired with eye-catching contrast vermillion wheels. The R15 has been one of India’s successful entry-level supersport for years with Yamaha already crossing the one million production milestone here. What has kept it at the top of its segment is not the styling borrowed from Yamaha’s R-Series and the hardware that backs it up.

2025-yamaha-r15-2.jpg

Its 155 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine delivers lively performance, supported by the brand’s Deltabox frame and DiASil cylinder for high standard dynamic abilities. The equipment list includes upside-down forks, linked-type Monocross suspension, traction control, assist and slipper clutch and even a quick shifter on select versions.

With the addition of new colour schemes, the 2025 Yamaha R15 M is priced at Rs. 2.01 lakh while the V4 carries a sticker tag of Rs. 1.84 lakh and the R15 S at Rs. 1.67 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi). Yamaha is definitely looking to cash in on the festive season demand. With Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), the engine generates a maximum power of 18.4 PS at 10,000 rpm and peak torque of 14.2 Nm at 7,500 rpm.

2025-yamaha-r15-3.jpg

It is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. Suspension duties are managed by 37mm upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock setup while braking is handled by disc brakes at both ends —282 mm at the front and 220 mm at the rear – along with a dual-channel ABS system. Ergonomically, the R15 sports aggressive rider’s triangle inspired by Yamaha’s premium supersport models with a full fairing, clip-on handlebars, split seat and a side-slung exhaust.

It is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with 100/80 section front and 140/70 section rear tubeless tyres. The instrument cluster comes equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, a gear position indicator, shift timing light and more. The motorcycle’s kerb weight is around 142 kg and the seat height is about 815 mm.
