New Creta Rival EVs

Manufactured in Hansalpur, Gujarat, the first EVs from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) are already on sale in European markets

Maruti Suzuki and its long-term strategic partner, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), are all set to foray into EVs. Both Indo-Japanese joint ventures plan to launch a premium SUV as their first electric model.

Nearly a year ago at Auto Expo 2025, Maruti Suzuki unveiled the e Vitara, and that’s the model it plans to launch as its first EV. The company has already been exporting the e Vitara for several months now and recently held the car’s media drive in India, albeit without revealing a lot of key details.

The e Vitara is 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,640 mm tall, and has a 2,700 mm wheelbase. It will only be available in front-wheel drive, with a choice of two motors and two battery packs. The base variant’s motor will produce 105.8 kW (142 hp) and 192.5 Nm of torque and will be powered by a 49 kWh LFP battery pack.

Maruti e Vitara

The top variant’s motor will develop 128 kW (172 hp) and 192.5 Nm of torque and rely on a 61 kWh LFP battery pack. Maruti Suzuki has revealed 543 kilometres as the official range of this configuration. It has also confirmed features like 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10-way power driver’s seat, a 40:20:40-split sliding and reclining rear seat, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and seven airbags.

On 19 January, TKM will introduce the Toyota Urban Cruiser, a model already on sale internationally. The Urban Cruiser is a corporate cousin of Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara, differentiated mainly by a hammerhead shark-inspired front end that looks much cleaner and classier.

The Urban Cruiser features a flatter and slightly shorter bonnet, sleek headlamps, and a visibly shorter functional grille. Vertical side air inlets in the bumper project confidence in a subtle manner. Compared to the e Vitara, a visibly larger area of the Urban Cruiser is covered by smooth panels for a more elegant styling.

Elsewhere, save for distinctive alloy wheels and different branding, the Urban Cruiser’s exterior is completely identical to the e Vitara. The interior is even more similar, with Toyota-specific branding being the only key difference. TKM will likely launch the e Urban Cruiser with the same battery packs and motors as Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara, which should mean the same maximum range of 543 kilometres.

Volkswagen To Launch Soon New Big SUV To Rival Toyota Fortuner

GaadiWaadi -

Volkswagen Tayron

The upcoming Volkswagen Tayron 7-seater SUV will be offered in its sporty R-Line guise, and its launch is confirmed for Q1 2026

Volkswagen India is ready to launch a new full-size 7-seater SUV in the Indian market. The company recently shared a small teaser video, revealing that its upcoming SUV will be none other than the Tayron. Once launched, it will sit above the existing Tiguan R-Line in the brand’s line-up.

The Tayron will be the German carmaker’s new flagship model, directly rivalling the likes of the segment leader, the Toyota Fortuner. In addition to this, it will go up against the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq, MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian.

The Tayron is essentially the 7-seater version of the Tiguan, and it has been on sale in several global markets since 2024. It serves as a replacement for the Tiguan AllSpace and was launched in China first, followed by European markets.

Talking about the dimensions, the Tayron measure 4,770 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,791 mm, leveraging ample space for second and third row passengers, as well as a boot space of 345 litres (all 3 rows up). In terms of design, the Tayron resembles the Tiguan to some extent, with some distinctive elements like a set of sleek dual-pod LED headlamps with a full-width LED light strip. Moreover, we can also spot the illuminated Volkswagen logo at the front and rear in the teaser video.

Towards the rear, the SUV gets a connected tail lamp setup, albeit with a different lighting setup compared to the Tiguan. The Tayron will likely feature 19-inch alloy wheels, similar to what we get on the Tiguan R-Line. As the India-spec model will come in the R-Line guise, we can expect some sporty gloss black and red detailing inside and out.

Based on the MQB EVO platform, the Volkswagen Tayron will be powered by the familiar 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine, putting out 204 hp and 320 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox, and there will likely be Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive (AWD) system on offer.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line

Although there are several powertrain options on offer internationally, including mild-hybrid (eTSI), plug-in hybrid (e-Hybrid) and turbo-charged diesel (TDI), we will only get the regular TSI motor in the Indian market. The Volkswagen Tayron will be sold in the Indian market via the CKD route, and we expect it to be priced around Rs. 45-50 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

In December 2025, Maruti Suzuki Fronx sat on top of the SUV sales table ahead of Tata Nexon, its sibling Brezza and Tata Punch

The CY 2025 ended with SUVs dominating the sales charts just as they did throughout the year as the body style’s popularity continues to rack volumes for top manufacturers across different segments in India. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx topped the SUV chart with 20,706 units registering a massive 93 per cent year-on-year jump over December 2024.

The Tata Nexon came in at second with a domestic tally of 19,375 units – posting a 43 per cent growth when compared to the same period the previous year. The compact SUV’s consistency can be attributed to its expansive engine and variant lineup along with a long list of features and Tata has often updated it with new trims and special editions over the years.

Deep into the compact SUV space, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza recorded 17,704 units to finish third but growth remained almost flat at just 2 per cent. The brand’s SUV lineup has been posting healthy numbers and the inclusion of Victoris only added to its strength. The Tata Punch, meanwhile, sold 15,980 units – up 6 per cent on a year-on-year basis as it endured another successful calendar year.

Volkswagen Tayron Teased Ahead Of India Launch

Volkswagen Tayron Teaser

Volkswagen India will be launching the Tayron here in the next few weeks and the German automaker teased the vehicle on their social media handles. The Tayron is basically a 7-seater version of the current Tiguan that we have in India.

On the outside, the Tayron is longer and a little wider than the Tiguan. It is essentially a replacement to the erstwhile Tiguan AllSpace. The fascia looks similar to the Tiguan but the profile and the rear have design differences.

The Tayron is expected to get a similar layout for the interior as the Tiguan along with an additional row of seats. It will have features like a 15-inch touchscreen, 8-speakers, panoramic sunroof, 9 airbags, ambient lighting, 10.25-inch instrument cluster, etc.

Under the hood, we expect the Tayron to come with the 2.0-litre TSI engine in the same state of the tune as the Tiguan, i.e. 204 PS and 320 Nm. The engine will be paired to a 7-speed DCT and power will be sent to all four wheels.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is currently available in a single R-Line variant retailing at Rs. 58.51 Lakh (OTR Mumbai), hence we expect the Tayron to cost approximately Rs. 61 Lakh. The new Tiguan failed to take off in India due to its high pricing and the lack of a diesel engine while the previous generation Tiguan sold in decent numbers. It’ll be interesting to see how the Tayron fares as it’ll compete against the Fortuner, Kodiaq and Gloster.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Launch Confirmed For Q1 2026 – All Key Details

GaadiWaadi -

Volkswagen-Tayron-R-Line-1.jpg

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line has been confirmed to launch in January-March 2026 period; gets sportier changes inside and out compared to the regular model

Volkswagen has officially confirmed that a premium SUV for the Indian market, the all-new Tayron R-Line, has its launch scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. Positioned above the Tiguan R-Line, the Tayron will become Volkswagen’s entry into the upmarket three-row SUV space and it will sit at the top of the range.

It will be offered exclusively in a seven-seat configuration. Globally, the Tayron made its debut in late 2024 and is essentially the three-row derivative of the latest generation Tiguan. In several overseas markets, the Tayron has replaced the Tiguan Allspace. For India, the Tayron will be a more practical and upscale evolution of the Tiguan.

One of the Tayron’s standout attributes is its size. Measuring 4,770 mm in length, it is significantly longer than the standard European-spec Tiguan and sits just over 100 mm shorter than the flagship Touareg. The wheelbase has been stretched to 2,791 mm with noticeably improved second- and third-row space.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line

The extended rear section also allows for a usable boot capacity of 345 litres with all three rows in place which expands to 885 litres when the third row is folded. Design-wise, the Tayron follows Volkswagen’s latest SUV styling cues and closely mirrors the China-spec Tayron L. Up front, it features sleek LED headlamps with integrated DRLs.

Other exterior highlights are a wide and imposing grille, muscular bonnet creases, large alloy wheels and slim LED tail lamps connected by a full-width light bar. The R-Line variant further enhances visual appeal with sportier bumpers and distinctive detailing. Internationally, it is equipped with a large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line 2

The equipment list comprises three-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, Harman Kardon premium audio, ambient lighting and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems. The Tayron R-Line is likely to be powered by the familiar 2.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine producing 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque.

It is paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. Select variants may also feature Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The SUV will be brought to India as a CKD (completely knocked down) unit and assembled locally at Volkswagen’s Maharashtra facility.
