Close-To-Production Mahindra Vision S Compact SUV Spied Testing Again

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra Vision S (4)

Mahindra Vision S concept is expected to give rise to a compact SUV sitting between the XUV 3XO and Scorpio N as early as 2027

Underneath, the upcoming Vision S–based compact SUV will rely on a newly developed NU_IQ unibody platform which is designed to support multiple future utility vehicles. It denotes a departure from the body-on-frame construction used in several existing offerings from Mahindra as it moves towards more compact packaging.

Recent test sightings of the Vision S indicate the exterior styling will be largely reminiscent of the Scorpio N but in a more compact form carrying a boxy and upright theme. Visible traits on camouflaged prototypes include angular window frames, muscular wheel arch housings, a vintage spare wheel mounted on the tailgate and thick pillars.

In terms of its placement within the range, the forthcoming entrant is expected to occupy the space between the larger Scorpio N and the smaller XUV 3XO. Despite its tough stance, its overall proportions look to be more compact than the Scorpio N which should make it easier to handle in tight city environments while still projecting SUV presence.

Mahindra Vision S (3)

Powertrain options for the production version are likely to be borrowed from the XUV 3XO’s existing engine catalogue. The most powerful option could be the 1.2-litre TGDi petrol engine kicking out a class-leading 131 hp and 230 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre diesel mill products around 117 hp and a segment-best 300 Nm of torque in the XUV 3XO.

Both engines could be coupled with a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic while an AMT could be offered in the diesel trim. Cabin glimpses so far have given away the presence of a semi-digital instrument display in the mid-level trims with a coloured information screen and grab handles for rear passengers along with a panoramic sunroof, a touchscreen infotainment unit, cruise control, adjustable headrests, folding rear armrest, etc in the higher-spec versions.

Mahindra Vision S (5)

The Vision S was revealed alongside three other concepts and the NU_IQ platform last year. The production iteration forms a major part of the brand’s product expansion roadmap that is said to include additional body styles such as a pickup inspired by the Scorpio N and an electric SUV influenced by the Thar Roxx.

Model badging has been added prominently on the bonnet and tailgate and the vehicle is offered in several colour choices including green, black, silver, white and grey shades.

A limited Launch Edition, restricted to 1001 units, adds cosmetic highlights such as orange trim accents and tyre-side decals to further differentiate it from the regular versions.

Cabin layout and equipment

Inside, the Gravite retains the practical three-row 5+2 seating layout associated with this platform, though Nissan has introduced a different interior theme and trim detailing. The dashboard follows a simple functional design with multiple storage spaces and rotary climate controls.

Higher variants are equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument display. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Launched, Priced From Rs. 10.99 Lakhs

Maruti e Vitara Price

Maruti launches e Vitara EV in India with battery subscription model

Maruti Suzuki has introduced the e Vitara, its first fully electric SUV for the Indian market, with an introductory starting price of Rs. 10.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). This price excludes the battery, which is supplied through the company’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme. Under this model, customers pay a usage charge of Rs. 3.99 per kilometre for the battery.

Bookings for the electric SUV are now open with a token amount of Rs. 21,000. Maruti Suzuki has not yet released the complete variant-wise pricing structure including the battery subscription, although the announced entry price corresponds to the Delta variant paired with the smaller battery pack.

Battery options, performance and range

The e Vitara is offered with two battery configurations in a front-wheel-drive layout. The 49kWh version produces 144 HP and delivers an ARAI-claimed range of up to 440 km. The larger 61kWh battery develops 174 HP with a claimed driving range of up to 543 km. Both versions generate 189 Nm of torque.

It is available in three trims – Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The base Delta variant comes only with the 49kWh battery, while the Zeta and Alpha variants are paired exclusively with the 61kWh pack.

Charging capability

According to the manufacturer, charging from 10 to 80 percent using a 7.4kW AC charger takes roughly 6.5 hours for the smaller battery and about 9 hours for the larger unit. DC fast charging support of up to 70kW allows the same 10-80 percent charge window in approximately 45 minutes.

Exterior design

Styling of the production e Vitara draws cues from the eVX concept previously shown by the brand. The SUV features LED headlamps, a sculpted body profile and protective cladding elements. It also incorporates an active grille shutter system intended to assist battery cooling.

From the side, the vehicle gets pronounced wheel arches and aerodynamic 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear design includes connected LED tail-lamps, a roof spoiler and centrally placed badging.

Interior and features

Inside, the cabin uses a dual-tone brown and black theme with soft-touch materials in select areas. The dashboard layout integrates a digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system positioned slightly apart, creating an asymmetrical design theme. A shift-by-wire selector is placed on the raised centre console.

Feature highlights include a 10.25-inch digital display, a 10-inch infotainment unit with smartphone connectivity, Infinity audio, wireless charging, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, powered driver seat adjustment, sliding and reclining rear seats, connected-car functions and a fixed glass sunroof.

Safety equipment comprises seven airbags, parking sensors at both ends, a 360-degree camera, tyre-pressure monitoring, electronic parking brake and Level-2 ADAS functions.

Warranty and ownership package

Maruti Suzuki is offering a 5-year warranty on the battery and a 3-year vehicle warranty, with an optional extended plan available. The company is also bundling complimentary home charger installation and one year of free charging support.

Market positioning

The e Vitara marks Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the mainstream electric passenger vehicle segment in India. It will compete with models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG Windsor, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6 and other similarly positioned electric SUVs.

JSW MG Motor To Launch 6 Cars By Next Year In India

GaadiWaadi -

Wuling Starlight 560

MG line-up in India could grow from six vehicles to over ten in a short span of less than two years

JSW MG Motor is set to initiate a major new product offensive soon. According to recent media reports, the company has lined up around six models for launch by next year, and most of them should arrive this year. Last year, JSW MG Motor added two new models to its line-up – the Cyberster and M9, expanding its portfolio to six cars. The company also rolled out a second facelift for the Hector. A new report from The Economic Times says that it will launch four SUVs this year.

JSW MG Motor’s first launch this year will be the Majestor, a facelifted version of the Gloster. The company recently conducted its media drive and opened pre-bookings. It plans to announce the prices in April and commence deliveries in May.

A recent Autocar India report says that JSW MG Motor plans to launch a new model codenamed ‘520’ in electric and plug-in hybrid variants by October, which could be two of the three launches scheduled this calendar year. This model is likely to be an adapted version of the Wuling Starlight 560, a low-cost SUV developed by GM-SAIC-Wuling, also marketed internationally as the Wuling Eksion.

Wuling Starlight 560 (1)

At 4,745 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,755 mm tall, the Wuling Starlight 560 is comparable to the Mahindra XUV 7XO. It has a 2,810 mm wheelbase and is available in 5- and 7-seat versions. JSW MG Motor may offer both versions to give customers flexibility between efficiency and space.

In China, the plug-in hybrid variant employs a 105 hp/130 Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 194 hp/230 Nm permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). An e-CVT sends drive to the wheels. A 20.5 kWh LFP battery pack powers the PMSM and delivers a zero-emission range of 125 kilometres, as per CLTC. The plug-in hybrid variant has a top speed of 170 km/h.

The electric variant uses a lower-output PMSM with 134 hp and 200 Nm of torque, along with a larger, 56.7 kWh LFP battery pack. It can travel up to 500 kilometres on a single charge, also as per CLTC. The electric variant maxes out at 160 km/h, though.

Preparing for the expansion of its vehicle line-up, JSW MG Motor is planning to expand its production capacity as well, from 1.2 lakh units to about 3 lakh units. It will also localise more components to reduce production costs and price its vehicles more attractively. The company is eyeing an investment of 4,000-5,000 crore rupees in new products, capacity expansion, and more localisation.
