All-New Seltos Hybrid Gets Larger Size, New Tech & AWD Capability

GaadiWaadi -

Kia Seltos Hybrid

Kia Seltos hybrid is expected to go on sale in India within the next 12-18 months and it could carry high local content

The all-new Kia Seltos has made its global debut at the New York International Auto Show 2026 with a major update for the American markets. Entering its second generation, the Seltos arrives with a bigger footprint, enhanced practicality and a first-ever hybrid powertrain option which should make it one of the versatile offerings in its competitive class.

One of the biggest talking points is its increased size. The new Seltos is longer, wider and features a stretched wheelbase resulting in improved cabin room across the board. Kia claims best-in-class rear legroom along with gains in headroom, shoulder and hip space. Cargo capacity has also gone up significantly which should ensure it being a more practical family SUV than before. In addition, the upright stance and boxy proportions inspired by the flagship Kia Telluride give it a more commanding road presence.

Under the bonnet, the new Seltos becomes the only model in its segment to offer three distinct powertrain options in the United States. Customers can choose between a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol and the newly introduced hybrid (HEV) setup. The hybrid pairs a 1.6-litre engine with a dual-clutch transmission and even brings an innovative electric all-wheel-drive (e-AWD) system – a first for Kia in this category.

Meanwhile, the turbo petrol continues to deliver performance close to 190 hp and is linked with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and boasts AWD capability. The exterior design follows Kia’s latest ‘Opposites United’ philosophy which we have seen in India as well as the Seltos received a brand new generation only a few months ago – helping the brand to post good volumes last FY.

Elements such as flush door handles, sporty LED lighting signatures and newly designed alloy wheels up its premium stance. The X-Line variant further adds unique styling touches including larger wheels and distinctive accents. Just as the exterior, the cabin borrows styling cues from the Telluride and the flagship EV9. The dashboard now features nearly 30 inches of combined digital display area.

Kia Seltos Hybrid (2)

It comprises dual 12.3-inch screens and an additional climate control panel. The latest connected car navigation cockpit (ccNC) system supports over-the-air updates and even offers entertainment apps like YouTube and Netflix. Feature highlights include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, memory function for the driver’s seat, surround-view monitor and blind-spot view monitor.

The SUV also gets a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as forward collision avoidance assist, smart cruise control with stop-and-go, lane keeping assist and parking distance warning. The ICE versions are expected to go on sale by mid-2026 while the hybrid variant will follow a while later in the US market. Considering the good reception of strong hybrid petrol engines in the midsize SUV segment, we expect Kia to introduce the hybrid tech sometime next year but with a localised content utilise the existing 1.5-litre NA petrol mill.

Mahindra Scorpio, Thar & Bolero Post Over 4 Lakh Unit Sales In FY26

GaadiWaadi -

Updated Mahindra Thar

The popular trio of Mahindra Scorpio, Thar and Bolero were responsible for recording over 4.15 lakh units of the 6.60 lakh units sold totally in FY26

Mahindra & Mahindra continues to ride high on its SUV portfolio as the combined sales of the Scorpio, Thar and Bolero crossed the 4 lakh mark in FY2026. They contributed a significant chunk to the brand’s overall performance during the last financial year. Individually, the Mahindra Scorpio range which includes Scorpio N and Classic led the charge with 1,78,800 units last FY.

It registered a healthy 8.5 per cent year-on-year growth over 1,64,842 units sold during the same period the previous FY. The Scorpio’s strong appeal lies in its underpinnings, powerful engine options and wide variant spread. It is offered with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing up to 200 PS and 380 Nm alongside a 2.2-litre diesel engine delivering up to 175 PS and 400 Nm – coupled with manual and automatic transmissions along with optional 4WD.

The Mahindra Thar emerged as another big growth driver – clocking 1,26,261 units in FY2026 compared to 84,834 units the previous year with a massive 48.8 per cent jump. Its lifestyle appeal and off-road capability and expanding lineup have worked strongly in its favour. It shares the same engine lineup with the Scorpio N but with different performance ratings.

Known for its simplicity, durability and rural demand, the Bolero lineup is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing around 75 PS and 210 Nm. The range comprising the regular Bolero and Neo received mild updates last FY as well.

The trio of SUVs accounted for over 4.15 lakh units forming the backbone of Mahindra’s passenger vehicle business and without a doubt their contribution to Mahindra’s overall FY2026 sales was immense as 6,60,276 units were registered with a 19.7 per cent year-on-year growth compared to 5,51,487 units in FY2025 with improved market share of 14.1 per cent.

Mahindra To Launch Six New Models In 2026-27

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra Vision.T

ICE models expected to dominate Mahindra’s next wave of new products, but EVs still would be a part of the mix

Mahindra has been on a roll with new SUV and UV launches since last year, and the momentum is expected to continue. The company is expected to bring six new models to market by next year, excluding minor updates such as special editions and new powertrain options.

1. New Mahindra Scorpio-N

The Mahindra Scorpio-N, essentially the second generation of the Scorpio and launched in June 2022, will undergo its first facelift in the middle of this year. Expected to arrive in late summer, the facelifted Scorpio-N should feature headlamps and tail lamps with redesigned internals, new front grilles, restyled bumpers, and a fresh design for the 18-inch alloy wheels.

Mahindra Scorpio N Facelift (3)

Mahindra will likely redesign the dashboard of the Scorpio-N and introduce new features such as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. No mechanical changes are expected with the refresh.

LED headlamps with a C-shaped LED daytime running light and a six-double-slot radiator grille should be the changes on the facelifted Thar. Mahindra may also introduce 19-inch alloy wheels, passive keyless entry, push-button start/stop, ventilated front seats, and more new features. It is unlikely to bring any changes to the engines or transmissions.

3. Mahindra Scorpio-N Pickup Truck

Towards the end of the year, Mahindra will likely unveil a pickup truck derived from the facelifted Scorpio-N. The company is developing the new pickup truck primarily for export markets, with key focus expected to be South Africa and Australia, and may launch it in the domestic market as a low-volume, lifestyle product.

4. Mahindra Vision S

Mahindra Vision S (3)

The Mahindra Vision.S concept showcased last year will likely evolve into a production model in early 2027. Set to debut the company’s NU_IQ monocoque platform, this model will be a compact SUV positioned above the Mahindra XUV 3XO. It will have a noticeably more rugged exterior and be significantly more technologically advanced, too. Mahindra could launch it in petrol and diesel variants and introduce a petrol-electric hybrid variant at a later stage.

5. Mahindra Vision T

Mahindra Vision.T (2)

In the third quarter of 2027, the production version of the Mahindra Vision.T concept will likely break cover. This model will also be based on the NU_IQ platform and could be introduced as a pure electric alternative to the Mahindra Thar Roxx. In that case, customers may get a choice of a single-motor RWD variant and a dual-motor AWD variant.

6. Mahindra BE 7/BE.07

Originally planned to be launched in October 2026, the Mahindra BE.07 concept’s production version is running slightly behind schedule. Mahindra only recently started testing the road-ready model and could be planning to launch it as the Mahindra BE 7 sometime in 2027.

Mahindra BE07

The BE 7/BE.07 will be the fifth model in Mahindra’s Born Electric range and feature a skateboard chassis. It should be approximately 4.6 metres long, 1.9 metres wide, and 1.7 metres tall and have a wheelbase of around 2.8 metres. The company may launch this model in two single-motor RWD variants, one with a 228 hp/380 Nm motor and a 59 kWh LFP battery pack and one with a 282 hp/380 Nm motor and a 79 kWh battery pack. The base variant could travel up to around 530 kilometres on a single charge, and the top variant around 650 kilometres.

New Hyundai Venue (18)

From Tata Motors to Hyundai and Kia, some companies are still offering a diesel engine option in their cars in India

Although many carmakers have stopped offering diesel engines owing to tightening emission norms in recent years, consumer demand remains strong, especially in SUV models. The comfort of an automatic transmission and the high fuel economy and long driving range offered by diesel engines make them a perfect combination for SUVs.

Here are our top 5 picks for a diesel-automatic SUVs priced in around Rs. 10-15 lakh:

1. Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon is one of the top-selling SUVs in India, offering a raft of premium features at competitive prices. Its diesel-automatic variant makes it the best pick for customers on a low budget. Instead of a sophisticated torque converter or dual-clutch automatic transmission, Tata Motors offers an automated manual transmission in the Nexon diesel. It’s a 6-speed unit, and while it may not be as smooth, it should deliver a higher fuel economy and be much lower on maintenance in the long run. The engine is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit producing 84.5 kW (113 hp) and 260 Nm of torque.

2. Kia Sonet

Customers looking for a more refined driving experience and higher reliability can consider the Kia Sonet. Kia uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that develops 85 kW (114 hp) and 250 Nm of torque and offers a 6-speed automatic transmission, which is much smoother.

GaadiWaadi -

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ (3)

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) to expand its line-up of original Toyotas in the near future, emphasising more on high-margin, premium models

Leveraging its collaboration with Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched several new low-cost cars in recent years and has become India’s fifth-largest automaker. Over the next 2-3 years, the company will strengthen its presence in higher-end segments of over Rs. 15 lakh rupees.

1. Lower-end Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid

TKM is working on a de-contented Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid to replace the Toyota Innova Crysta and is expected to launch it by early 2027. The new entry-level trim of the Innova Hycross Hybrid should be comparable to the G trim of the Innova Hycross Petrol. It will likely be just as efficient, though, delivering a fuel economy of 22.16 km/l.

Toyota Innova Hycross GX Limited Edition

Another product intervention in the Innova series in the next 2-3 years could be the launch of the Innova Hycross Hybrid Flex Fuel. TKM has already showcased a prototype of this model on multiple occasions.

2. Toyota electric MPV

Also expected to be launched in 2027 is a Toyota electric MPV, derived from an upcoming Maruti Suzuki model codenamed ‘YMC’. The platform, batteries, and powertrains are likely to be the same as those of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, which shares a similar relationship with the Maruti e Vitara. The new three-row model will compete with the Kia Carens Clavis EV and the VinFast MPV 7.

3. Next-gen Toyota Fortuner

Toyota is developing a third-generation Fortuner closely related to the ninth-generation Hilux, which it introduced in November 2025. The next-gen Fortuner will have a sharper and sleeker front-end and a noticeably cleaner and more contemporary interior.

4. Toyota Land Cruiser FJ

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is the company’s new C-segment body-on-frame SUV positioned below the Toyota Fortuner. Based on the IMV 0 platform, this model is already on sale internationally and is expected to arrive in Indian showrooms in late 2028.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ (1)

The Land Cruiser FJ will be manufactured in India, at TKM’s upcoming Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant. Yet, it is expected to be a pricey model, starting at around Rs. 30 lakh (ex-showroom). TKM will likely offer it in petrol, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants.

5. Toyota Corolla Cross

After being cancelled last year, the Toyota Corolla Cross is back in the pipeline, now expected to be launched by early 2029. The current model will likely be too old by that time, which means TKM may directly launch the next-gen model. The Corolla Cross, too, will be manufactured at the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant.

New 2026 Volkswagen Taigun: Top 5 Things You Should Know

GaadiWaadi -

2026-Volkswagen-Taigun-Facelift.-1.jpg

In addition to a sleeker design and an updated interior, the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun comes with several mechanical changes and new/upgraded features

Just weeks after the launch of the new Skoda Kushaq, the new VW Taigun has been officially revealed. Volkswagen will launch the facelfited Taigun later this month, but it has revealed all the new features and specifications. Here are the top five changes on the latest new mid-size SUV:

1. 8-speed automatic transmission

Volkswagen has replaced the 6-speed automatic transmission, which it offered with the 1.0-litre TSI engine in the old Taigun, with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The new transmission has brought a 5.8% improvement in fuel economy. While the old Taigun with the 1.0-litre TSI engine and the 6-speed automatic transmission returned a fuel economy of 18.46 km/l, the new model with the same engine and the 8-speed automatic transmission delivers 19.54 km/l.

2026-Volkswagen-Taigun-Facelift.jpg

Unlike in the case of the old model, this is the most efficient combination with an automatic transmission. The fuel economy of the 1.5-litre TSI Evo engine and 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission combination of the Taigun has reduced from 19.01 km/l to 18.85 km/l with the facelift.

2. Panoramic sunroof

The new Taigun features a dual-pane panoramic sunroof instead of the old model’s single-pane sunroof. Volkswagen will offer the latest model in Comfortline, Highline, Highline Plus, Topline, GT Line, GT Plus Chrome, and GT Plus Sport trims. The company will include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof in the Topline, GT Plus Chrome, and GT Plus Sport trims. It will equip the Highline Plus and GT Line trims with a single-pane sunroof, though.

3. Active Info Display

new-2026-volkswagen-taigun-interior.jpg

The Topline, GT Plus Chrome, and GT Plus Sport trims feature a new, fully digital instrument cluster called ‘Active Info Display’. It’s a 10.25-inch display offering multiple layouts, including one with turn directions for navigation. It does not have a full map view like in the sixth-gen VW Polo sold globally, though.

4. Illuminated brand logos

The new VW Taigun features a bolder styling with illuminated brand logos – a first in the segment. Unlike on the new Skoda Kushaq, the brand logo at the front also comes with backlighting. Volkswagen equips the new Taigun with illuminated brand logos in the Topline, GT Plus Chrome, and GT Plus Sport trims.

5. Rear disc brakes

volkswagen-taigun-2026-new-disc-brakes.jpg

While the old VW Taigun featured disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear, the new model is available with disc brakes at both ends for enhanced safety. Only the GT Plus Chrome and GT Plus Sport trims come with this feature though.
