Hyundai A+ Segment Electric SUV Confirmed For India

GaadiWaadi -

Hyundai Inster

Hyundai to strengthen its position in the Indian electric car market with heavily localised electric micro-SUV, expected to be priced from around 10 lakh rupees (ex-showroom)

Hyundai has announced it will launch an A+ segment EV in India in 2027. The new electric car will be mainly aimed at the Tata Punch.ev, which is currently the only offering in this segment. After launching three global dedicated electric cars between 2021 and 2024, namely the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Ioniq 9, Hyundai is working on regional models to further solidify its position in the EV space across key markets worldwide. In China, the company will launch the Elexio later this year and then a China-focused Elantra-segment sedan next year, while in Europe, it plans to launch the Ioniq 3 next year.

In India, Hyundai launched the Creta Electric in January, but this model has struggled to gain traction. In 2027, the company will launch an A+ segment model, a micro-SUV conceived from the outset for electric propulsion. In all likelihood, this will be the same car rumoured to be internally called the ‘HE1i EV.’

While earlier reports stated Hyundai would launch this model in the second half of 2026, it appears the company has postponed the timeline to 2027, seemingly a result of weakening consumer demand for EVs globally. In India, we’re proud to launch the country’s first EV designed specifically for Indian drivers with a localised supply chain – José Muñoz, CEO, Hyundai at the 2025 CEO Investor Day.

Reports suggest the Hyundai HE1i will be inspired by the Hyundai Casper EV, called the Hyundai Inster in Europe. The exterior similarities may include mean split headlights and rear lights featuring pixel-like graphics, pillar-mounted rear door handles, and raised roof rails, although the design of these elements might be different.

Inside, a fully digital instrument cluster with customisable layouts, ventilated front seats, a wireless smartphone charger, and a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto could be the key features of the A+ segment EV. Here, too, Hyundai may use a different design, one that’s better aligned to the taste of Indian consumers.

The HE1i will likely be the first Hyundai taking advantage of the company’s tie-up with Exide Energy for locally produced LFP cells. The energy storage capacity of the battery pack comprising these LFP cells could be somewhere in the 35-40 kWh range. On a full charge, the A+ segment SUV should easily cover a distance of over 400 km. Whether Hyundai offers a smaller LFP battery pack aimed at customers who intend to use the car mainly or only in the city remains to be seen.

The Hyundai A+ segment EV will likely face competition from the Kia Syros EV as well, scheduled to arrive in early 2026. It could be a corporate cousin of the latter, utilising the same platform, powertrain, batteries, and other core components.

Top 10 7-Seaters August 2025 – Ertiga, Scorpio, Innova, Bolero, Carens, Fortuner

GaadiWaadi -

toyota innova hycross

In the table of top 10 7-seaters in August 2025, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga finished ahead of Mahindra Scorpio, Toyota Innova range, Mahindra Bolero and Kia Carens

When you look at the 7-seater space in India, the August 2025 sales chart is more than just numbers on a page. It is a snapshot of how Indian families, taxi operators and even volume-based buyers are making choices in a market that is becoming both more competitive and more fragmented. The surprises this month underline how unpredictable the segment has become.

Sitting comfortably at the top is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. At 18,445 units, it is virtually flat compared to last August’s 18,580 units – showing only a one per cent decline being the most sold PV in India last month. But here’s the twist: this kind of consistency is a victory. In a segment where trends swing, the Ertiga has quietly cemented itself as the no-nonsense and reliable offering for anyone needing a practical seven-seater.

The story is very different for the Mahindra Scorpio. Its sales fell by 29 per cent year-on-year – down to 9,840 units. On the other hand, Toyota’s Innova saw only a modest four per cent decline at 9,304 units – proving once again that reputation and trust in reliability still command loyalty even when prices are higher.

Rank Top 10 7-Seaters (YoY) August 2025 Sales August 2024 Sales
1 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (-1%) 18,445 18,580
2 Mahindra Scorpio (-29%) 9,840 13,787
3 Toyota Innova (-4%) 9,304 9,687
4 Mahindra Bolero (25%) 8,109 6,494
5 Kia Carens (16%) 6,822 5,881
6 Mahindra XUV 700 (-45%) 4,956 9,007
7 Maruti Suzuki XL6 (9%) 2,973 2,740
8 Toyota Fortuner (7%) 2,508 2,338
9 Renault Triber (24%) 1,870 1,514
10 Tata Safari (-24%) 1,489 1,951

The middle of the table is where the action really is. The Mahindra Bolero, a vehicle older than many of its buyers, jumped by 25 per cent to 8,109 units. Meanwhile, the Kia Carens surged by 16 per cent to 6,822 units. Together they represent the diversity of India’s seven-seater market: one thrives in rugged rural pockets, the other in urban family garages with an appetite for features.

The real shocker perhaps comes from the Mahindra XUV700. In August sales, it tumbled by 45 per cent to 4,956 units but the arrival of festive season should help revive the sales numbers in the coming months. At the lower end, steady growth from the Maruti XL6, up nine per cent, Toyota Fortuner by seven per cent and Renault Triber by 24 per cent adds colour to the story.

Each caters to a niche – be it premium family comfort, ladder-frame appeal or budget MPV practicality. Tata’s Safari, however, fell by 24 per cent to 1,489 units, signalling that the nameplate is perhaps losing steam. Look beyond the percentages and you see a market that is not shrinking but splitting into multiple directions.

Skoda VW August 2025 Sales Analysis – Kylaq, Slavia, Virtus, Golf, Kushaq

GaadiWaadi -

Skoda Kylaq SUV

Budget-priced Kylaq comes to the rescue for Skoda in August, while Volkswagen, with no sub-4 metre car in its line-up, reports a substantial decline in sales

August 2025 was quite a challenging month for the Indian auto industry, with customers postponing purchases in anticipation of the recently announced GST rate cuts. Volkswagen Group’s core brands, Skoda and Volkswagen, were no exception.

Skoda was among the very few car brands that managed to grow its sales in August 2025. Interestingly, among the mass-market brands, it posted the highest year-over-year growth – 79%. That said, in an absolute sense, the Czech automaker is still a minuscule player in the Indian car market. It sold 4,971 cars in our market last month, compared to just 2,772 units in August 2024.

If it were not for the Kylaq, which Skoda began delivering in January, the company would have logged a big decline in sales last month. For the record, it sold 3,099 units of the sub-4 metre SUV. Its other locally manufactured models were both in the red, with the Kushaq posting a 47% year-over-year decline and the Slavia 10%. The company sold just 789 units of the SUV and 1,008 units of the sedan, as opposed to 1,502 and 1,122 units in the same month last year.

The recently launched second-gen Kodiaq, which is substantially more expensive than the previous generation model, wasnt doing well to begin with, and its position worsened in August. Skoda delivered just 75 units of the latest model last month, as opposed to 145 units of the first-gen model in the same month last year. This translated to a 48% year-over-year decline.

The third-gen Superb, which used to be a pricey CBU import and saw just three takers in August 2024, is no longer on sale. The fourth-gen model is in the pipeline, also planned as a CBU import, but it is unlikely to arrive in showrooms until next year, as Skoda waits for a potential tariff reduction when the India-EU FTA is announced in the coming months.

At Volkswagen, the Taigun and Virtus saw a year-over-year sales decline of 39% and 11%, respectively, in August 2025. The company delivered just 1,001 units of the SUV and 1,674 units of the sedan, respectively, as opposed to 1,628 and 1,876 units, respectively, in the same month last year.

As for the Tiguan, its locally assembled second-gen model sold in August 2024 was replaced with a fully imported third-gen model this year. The priciness resulting from this change brought its sales down from 73 units to just 8 units, marking a steep 89% year-over-year decline.

Golf GTI

Lastly, the Golf, launched exclusively in the GTI variant this year, contributed 36 units to Volkswagens sales last month. In total, Volkswagen delivered 2,719 cars in India in August 2025, 24% less than in the same month last year (3,577 units).

Volkswagen New vs Old Prices After GST 2.0 – Up To Rs. 3.27 Lakh Drop

GaadiWaadi -

Volkswagen virtus-4

Volkswagen India has reduced prices across its range comprising Virtus, Taigun, Golf GTI and Tiguan R-Line

Volkswagen India has revised prices across its domestic portfolio considering the soon-to-be implemented of GST 2.0. The updated price list, effective September 22, 2025, impacts prices of popular models such as the Virtus, Taigun, Tiguan and the recently launched Golf GTI as the price cuts range between Rs 40,000 and Rs 3.27 lakh.

The Virtus midsize sedan benefits significantly with the 1.0 TSI Comfortline MT now at Rs 11.16 lakh after a Rs 40,000 cut. The 1.0 TSI GT-Line MT drops by Rs 49,000 to Rs 13.59 lakh while the higher-spec 1.5 TSI GT MT Plus Chrome and Sport trims are cheaper by Rs 61,000 and Rs 62,000 respectively – making the best-selling midsize sedan in the country more attractive to customers.

Automatic versions of the Virtus also gain attractive reductions. The 1.0 TSI Highline AT has seen a Rs 61,000 drop while the 1.0 TSI GT-Line AT will be Rs 52,000 lower from Sep 22. The flagship 1.5 TSI DSG variants too get hefty cuts – Rs 66,000 for the Chrome trim and Rs 67,000 for the Sport. Royal Enfield Electric E-Himalayan (1)

Royal Enfield will globally debut the production-ready version of its first electric motorcycle, the Flying Flea C6, at the EICMA 2025

One of the most popular two-wheeler manufacturers in India, Royal Enfield, is working on a slew of new motorcycles, including EVs, for the domestic as well as global markets. The brand’s first electric motorcycle will debut in the coming months, and an all-electric ADV is also on the cards. Let’s look at the upcoming big bikes from Royal Enfield.

1. Royal Enfield Himalayan 750

RE Himalayan 750 Touring Spec Spied

The upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 was recently spied testing with alloy wheels, hinting at the touring-oriented version of the ADV. Expected to be unveiled in the Indian market later this year, the Himalayan 750 will be powered by a twin-cylinder 750cc air/oil-cooled engine derived from the current 650cc unit. While the power output figures are unknown, it is likely to have a significant increase over the 650cc engine, reportedly producing over 60 bhp and 60 Nm of peak torque.

The two-wheeler was officially revealed in India earlier this year, and it will go on sale sometime next year, i.e. 2026. It is expected to come with a claimed range of 100-150 kilometres, offering the performance equivalent to a 300cc ICE motorcycle. On the hardware front, the electric bike has 19-inch alloy wheels at both ends along with disc brakes. The rear suspension is a mono-shock unit, and the electric bike uses a belt-drive system.

This will be the brand’s new entry-level motorcycle for the Indian market, which will be positioned below the Hunter 350. While the details on the project are scarce at the moment, the hybrid motorcycle is expected to come with a claimed fuel efficiency of around 50 kmpl.
