In the table of top 10 7-seaters in August 2025, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga finished ahead of Mahindra Scorpio, Toyota Innova range, Mahindra Bolero and Kia Carens

When you look at the 7-seater space in India, the August 2025 sales chart is more than just numbers on a page. It is a snapshot of how Indian families, taxi operators and even volume-based buyers are making choices in a market that is becoming both more competitive and more fragmented. The surprises this month underline how unpredictable the segment has become.

Sitting comfortably at the top is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. At 18,445 units, it is virtually flat compared to last August’s 18,580 units – showing only a one per cent decline being the most sold PV in India last month. But here’s the twist: this kind of consistency is a victory. In a segment where trends swing, the Ertiga has quietly cemented itself as the no-nonsense and reliable offering for anyone needing a practical seven-seater.

The story is very different for the Mahindra Scorpio. Its sales fell by 29 per cent year-on-year – down to 9,840 units. On the other hand, Toyota’s Innova saw only a modest four per cent decline at 9,304 units – proving once again that reputation and trust in reliability still command loyalty even when prices are higher.

Rank Top 10 7-Seaters (YoY) August 2025 Sales August 2024 Sales
1 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (-1%) 18,445 18,580
2 Mahindra Scorpio (-29%) 9,840 13,787
3 Toyota Innova (-4%) 9,304 9,687
4 Mahindra Bolero (25%) 8,109 6,494
5 Kia Carens (16%) 6,822 5,881
6 Mahindra XUV 700 (-45%) 4,956 9,007
7 Maruti Suzuki XL6 (9%) 2,973 2,740
8 Toyota Fortuner (7%) 2,508 2,338
9 Renault Triber (24%) 1,870 1,514
10 Tata Safari (-24%) 1,489 1,951

The middle of the table is where the action really is. The Mahindra Bolero, a vehicle older than many of its buyers, jumped by 25 per cent to 8,109 units. Meanwhile, the Kia Carens surged by 16 per cent to 6,822 units. Together they represent the diversity of India’s seven-seater market: one thrives in rugged rural pockets, the other in urban family garages with an appetite for features.

The real shocker perhaps comes from the Mahindra XUV700. In August sales, it tumbled by 45 per cent to 4,956 units but the arrival of festive season should help revive the sales numbers in the coming months. At the lower end, steady growth from the Maruti XL6, up nine per cent, Toyota Fortuner by seven per cent and Renault Triber by 24 per cent adds colour to the story.

Each caters to a niche – be it premium family comfort, ladder-frame appeal or budget MPV practicality. Tata’s Safari, however, fell by 24 per cent to 1,489 units, signalling that the nameplate is perhaps losing steam. Look beyond the percentages and you see a market that is not shrinking but splitting into multiple directions.
