Maruti Suzuki has reached the three crore sales milestone in the domestic market in a span of just over four decades

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has achieved yet another landmark moment in its four-decade journey – crossing the 3 crore domestic sales milestone, a first for any passenger vehicle manufacturer in India. The achievement is a testament to the brand’s dominance in the Indian market for decades and shows its status as a household name.

The company reached this massive figure in November 2025 – 42 years after it began selling passenger vehicles in India. The sales trajectory tells its own story of accelerating growth. Maruti Suzuki took nearly 28 years and two months to hit the first crore milestone in February 2012. However, the second crore followed in just 7 years and 5 months.

The third crore came even faster in a record 6 years and 4 months – emphasising its growing popularity. Few brands have shaped Indian mobility like Maruti Suzuki. It all began in December 1983 when the first Maruti 800 was handed over to a customer. Over the decades, the company has evolved alongside the market – expanding its lineup, adding powertrains and new technologies.

The Alto stands tall as Maruti Suzuki’s biggest success story – accounting for over 47 lakh units sold. The WagonR tall riding hatchback follows with more than 34 lakh units while the Swift contributes over 32 lakh units and the duo continue to be amongst the regular top five selling models in India every month.

Other strong performers such as the Brezza and Fronx also rank among the brand’s top ten all-time sellers. Today, Maruti Suzuki retails 19 models across multiple fuel and transmission option, offering more than 170 variants to cater across compact, midsize and premium segments. Besides recording impressive sales numbers with its CNG range, the Indo-Japs concentrated on improving safety standards of its models as well in recent years.

maruti alto k10-5Straying away from its dominance in the entry-level mass market space, Maruti Suzuki strengthened its SUV portfolio big time in recent years as the arrival of Brezza, Fronx, Grand Vitara and the newly launched Victoris has helped stretch its market share. Following the same trend, MSIL’s first EV, the e Vitara, is all set to be introduced next month in India. Lately, its export figures surged too on the back of good reception for Baleno, Jimny 5-door and Fronx.

Speaking about the new milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “When I look at the length and breadth of India and think that 3 crore customers have placed their trust in Maruti Suzuki to realize their dream of mobility, it fills me with humility and gratitude. Yet, with car penetration at approximately 33 vehicles per 1,000 people*, we know our journey is far from over. We will continue to make every possible effort to bring the joy of mobility to as many people as we can, while also be an asset to both the economy and the environment at the same time.”

2025 Tata Sierra To Launch On 25th November, Teased

Tata confirms November 25 launch for 2025 Sierra with modern-retro design

Tata Motors has officially confirmed the launch date of the 2025 Tata Sierra, revealing through a new teaser that the much-awaited SUV will debut on November 25, 2025. The teaser gives a glimpse of the production-ready model, highlighting a new alloy wheel design distinct from the concept version while retaining the retro-inspired styling that pays homage to the original Sierra.

A Modern Revival of a Classic

The upcoming Tata Sierra continues to embrace a boxy and minimalist design, reminiscent of the original SUV that became an icon in the 1990s. Key retro touches include a black panel above the rear windows – a nod to the original model’s curved glass design – a flat bonnet, and a distinctive window line.

Interior and Features

While Tata has yet to reveal the interior of the production model, the concept version showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 featured an all-black cabin with body-coloured accents, a three-screen layout and a two-spoke steering wheel with the backlit Tata logo, similar to the one seen on the Harrier and Curvv.

Expected features include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated and powered front seats, ambient lighting, wireless charging and multiple drive modes. On the safety front, the Sierra could offer seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS, ESC, hill-hold assist, a 360-degree camera and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold.

Engine and Powertrain Options

Under the hood, the 2025 Tata Sierra is expected to be offered with 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options, both paired with manual and automatic transmissions. An electric version of the Sierra is also in development and expected to join the lineup later.

Price and Competition

The upcoming Sierra is expected to be priced between Rs. 15 lakh and Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Toyota Hyryder, MG Astor, Tata Curvv and the upcoming Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton.

With the Sierra’s reintroduction, Tata Motors aims to blend nostalgia with modern technology, appealing to both legacy fans and new-age SUV buyers.

2 Big SUV Launches Waiting To Happen In November 2025 In India

GaadiWaadi -

New-Tata-Sierra-Teased-Ahead-Of-Launch-1.jpg

Tata is planning to introduce a new midsize SUV in the form of the returning Sierra while Mahindra will bring in its first three-row EV this month too

The month of November 2025 is shaping up to be a busy one for the Indian SUV market as two highly anticipated launches draw near – the new generation Tata Sierra and Mahindra’s all-electric XEV 9S. Both models are set to make their global debuts this month and they will play integral roles for their respective brands in the SUV space.

The Tata Sierra will officially mark its return on November 25 – reviving an iconic nameplate that defined the brand’s identity decades ago. The SUV will sit between the Curvv and Harrier in Tata’s lineup and will be offered in both electric and internal combustion engine versions. The ICE version will arrive first with the EV to follow later.

Powering the Sierra will be Tata’s new 1.5-litre engine family which includes a naturally aspirated petrol, a turbocharged petrol and a diesel unit. The turbo petrol motor is expected to produce around 168 PS and 280 Nm and will be available with both six-speed manual and automatic transmission options.

The electric Sierra, on the other hand will more likely share its platform with the Harrier EV and is expected to come with two battery options. The larger pack could offer a driving range exceeding 500 km on a single charge. Fast-charging capability, bidirectional charging, and a strong equipment list will help appeal to a wide range of consumers.

Mahindra, meanwhile, will unveil the XEV 9S on November 27 at its ‘Scream Electric’ event in Bengaluru. It will be the brand’s first fully-electric, three-row SUV designed on the dedicated INGLO skateboard platform. Unlike ICE conversions, the XEV 9S is built as a pure EV from the ground up – allowing for a flat floor and flexible interior layout.

Two battery options are likely to be offered with an estimated range of over 500 km.

The Mahindra XEV 9S takes plenty of influence from the XUV.e8 concept showcased just over three years ago and it will have its commonalities with the XUV 700 too which is due a facelift in early 2026.

Mahindra XEV 9S 7-Seater Electric SUV Debut On 27th November

Mahindra to unveil its first 7-seater electric SUV, the XEV 9S

Mahindra is gearing up to unveil its next all-electric SUV, the XEV 9S, in India on November 27, 2025. The new model will mark the company’s first three-row electric SUV, built on the brand’s INGLO Skateboard platform, which also underpins the XEV 9e and BE 6 models.

While Mahindra has not yet disclosed detailed specifications, the XEV 9S is expected to be closely related to the XEV 7e prototype – an electric version of the XUV700 that has been spotted testing on several occasions. If that’s the case, the XEV 9S could carry forward several design cues seen on the prototype, including connected LED DRLs, a closed-off front grille and dual-pod LED headlamps, similar to the XEV 9e’s styling.

Inside, the cabin is likely to feature a triple-screen layout and modern steering wheel design, drawing inspiration from Mahindra’s other upcoming electric SUVs.

Although the company has not revealed specifics about the battery pack or powertrain, the XEV 9S is expected to offer a claimed range exceeding 500 km, based on Mahindra’s latest EV benchmarks. More details about the performance, charging capabilities and features are expected closer to the debut date.

Mahindra’s introduction of the XEV 9S underscores its growing focus on the electric SUV market and its commitment to expanding its EV portfolio for both domestic and international markets.
