Maruti Suzuki is likely preparing to bring in multiple budget friendly cars over the next two to three years and here are the possible arrivals

Maruti Suzuki is preparing one of its most important product phases in recent years with many budget-oriented models lined up across hatchbacks, compact SUVs, MPVs and electric vehicles. The company is rethinking its small-car playbook with an emphasis on efficiency, alternative fuels and accessible electrification over the next few years.

At the entry end of the market, Maruti Suzuki is said to be working on a brand new affordable model targetting first-time consumers. It is expected to prioritise low running costs and easy ownership with multiple powertrain options under consideration including petrol, CNG, flex-fuel and hybrid-assisted setups.

Electrification will also start filtering down to smaller segments. A compact electric car inspired by the eWX concept is widely expected to become the brand’s most affordable EV yet. Designed with a boxy stance and space-efficient packaging, the model will concentrate on everyday usability while keeping costs under control – potentially opening EV ownership to a much wider audience.

Moving into the SUV space, Maruti Suzuki is developing a new micro SUV positioned below the Brezza. This five-seater is expected to take on rivals like the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter with muscular styling cues and possibly attractive value proposition. Hybrid assistance is likely to play a key role here.

The company’s MPV strategy should not be left unnoticed as well. A compact people-mover positioned below the Ertiga is under evaluation – drawing inspiration from the tall and space-maximising MPVs sold internationally. Interior flexibility and practicality will be its main strengths with a strong hybrid petrol powertrain likely supporting better mileage figures.

Among existing nameplates, the next-gen Baleno is already on the drawing board. Slated for an arrival around 2027, it is expected to feature a new design, a more premium cabin and a strong hybrid system based on Maruti Suzuki’s new Z-series petrol engine, possibly used in a range-extender configuration. Meanwhile, updates to the Fronx are likely to go beyond cosmetic changes.

The compact crossover could receive meaningful mechanical upgrades along with advanced driver assistance features sometime next year. With the e Vitara launching soon and a midsize electric MPV also under development, Maruti Suzuki’s future lineup looks all set to bet big on eco-friendly vehicles even in the budget end of the spectrum.

Maruti Suzuki Planning Compact Hybrid MPV With Sliding Doors For India By 2029

Suzuki Solio

Maruti Suzuki plans compact hybrid MPV with sliding doors for India and exports

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to expand its MPV portfolio in India with a new compact model that is expected to debut towards the end of the decade. Internally codenamed YVF, the upcoming MPV is understood to draw inspiration from the Suzuki Solio sold in markets such as Japan and Hong Kong. The model is likely to be positioned above the Ertiga and XL6 and will also serve as an export-focused product.

India’s MPV segment has shown steady momentum in recent years. The continued success of the Maruti Ertiga, which has led its category for multiple financial years, reflects strong demand in the mass market. At the same time, higher-end MPVs such as the Kia Carnival, MG M9 and Toyota Vellfire have found a niche audience looking for comfort-focused, feature-rich people movers. This gradual shift has encouraged manufacturers to explore more premium offerings at lower price points.

The new YVF MPV is expected to sit in the under-4-metre category, where the Renault Triber and the recently revealed Nissan Gravite currently operate. While both rivals offer three-row seating, the Maruti model is likely to focus suggesting a five-seat configuration, a layout that aligns better with international market requirements.

Dimensions of the India-bound version have not been officially confirmed, but the Japan-spec Solio measures just under 3.9 metres in length. This indicates that Maruti’s new MPV could be more compact than existing rivals while prioritising interior space and ease of access.

One of the most notable features under consideration is powered rear sliding doors. If introduced, this would mark a first for Maruti Suzuki in the compact MPV segment. Sliding doors have traditionally been limited to larger, more expensive MPVs, and their inclusion would signal Maruti’s intent to bring premium convenience features to a broader audience.

Under the bonnet, the YVF is expected to use Suzuki’s Z12E 1.2-litre petrol engine, already seen in models such as the Maruti Swift and Maruti Dzire. However, this application could introduce hybrid technology, potentially making it one of the first compact MPVs in India to offer a strong or series-hybrid setup. International versions of the Solio already use a petrol-hybrid system paired with a CVT, delivering high fuel efficiency by global test standards.

While the Solio is offered with all-wheel drive in Japan, such a configuration is considered unlikely for India due to limited demand in this segment. The focus is expected to remain on efficiency, urban usability and comfort.

Production of the YVF MPV is planned in India, with exports forming a significant part of the project. Industry estimates suggest annual volumes could cross one lakh units at peak, with a portion allocated to hybrid variants and overseas markets, particularly Europe.

If timelines remain on track, Maruti Suzuki’s new compact MPV could arrive around 2028–29, marking a strategic step towards premiumisation and hybrid adoption in the brand’s MPV lineup.

Tata Avinya to launch in sportback format first, SUV later, with the launch confirmed by the end of 2026

Tata Motors is ready for its next bout in the electric vehicle segment with a new range of products targeted at the premium end of the segment. The much-awaited Avinya EV model line-up has been confirmed for a debut by the end of 2026.

The Avinya concept was first showcased at the 2022 Auto Expo, while its evolved version, the Avinya X, debuted at the 2025 Auto Expo, revealing the brand’s Generation-3 EV architecture. The first model in the Avinya range will feature a sleek sportback styling, followed by an EV with a proper SUV-like upright stance.

Subsequently, the Avinya nameplate could get multiple more products in the future, backed by a strong investment of Rs. 18,000 crore, which will solely be used for the development and expansion of the company’s EV line-up.

The Avinya line-up will be based on Jaguar Land Rover’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA). It is an advanced ground-up electric skateboard platform, which will enable faster development timelines while being flexible to support multiple body styles and dimensions.

Talking about the market positioning, Tata Motors will target the premium EV segment with the Avinya range, potentially rivalling the likes of Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6. Meanwhile, the price range of these premium EVs will be upwards of Rs. 40 lakhs, making them the flagship models in the company’s portfolio.

While the details of the production-ready version of the Avinya range are scarce at the moment, the concept showcased earlier this year highlighted a unique design language, along with an upmarket cabin layout. The T-shaped lighting elements inside out, a two-spoke steering wheel, an instrument cluster neatly integrated into the dashboard, a large infotainment system and the overall sophistication in the cabin further indicated a strong shift from the company’s conventional appeal.

Talking about the powertrain, the upcoming Avinya range will likely be available in both two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, sporting multiple battery pack options. The claimed range is expected to be easily over 600 kilometres, thanks to the usage of JLR’s advanced EV platform and efficient electric motors.

Kia’s First Hybrid Car Launching In India In 2026

GaadiWaadi -

Kia Sorento (6)

First Kia hybrid model in India to be assembled locally for a competitive pricing and compete with the Skoda Kodiaq and the upcoming VW Tayron

After expanding its EV line-up to four models with the Syros EV in the coming months, Kia will extend its electrification strategy in India to include hybrids, targeting higher sales volumes. The company plans to launch the first hybrid model in our market towards the end of the year.

Adopting a top-down approach as it did with BEVs, Kia will likely first launch the Sorento Hybrid in India. Belonging to the global D-segment, in which Hyundai previously sold the Santa Fe, the Sorento Hybrid has been on sale internationally since 2020 and received a facelift in 2023.

Designed on the theme of ‘refined boldness,’ the Kia Sorento Hybrid features a confident, mature exterior that exudes toughness but with elegance. Elements like Kia EV9-inspired vertical headlights with star map DRLs, a high-set bonnet, a large radiator grille featuring a 3D mesh pattern, 20-inch alloy wheels, raised roof rails, and vertical tail lamps with star map graphics lend the vehicle a powerful look.

Mahindra Bets Big On Upcoming NU_IQ Based Compact & Midsize SUVs

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra NU_IQ Platform

The Vision S concept based baby Scorpio N could be the first model to sit on the NU_IQ platform considering the frequent spotting of test mules

Mahindra’s future plans will be dictated by a new vehicle architecture called NU_IQ which is expected to underpin multiple models starting from 2027. First showcased alongside different concept vehicles a few months ago, the platform has been engineered to be a flexible and global-ready foundation. Among the earliest production candidates is a compact SUV inspired by the Vision S concept.

Unlike legacy platforms that were tied to a single propulsion type, NU_IQ has been developed to support petrol, diesel and electric powertrains from the outset. The approach allows Mahindra to develop region-specific products while retaining common engineering bits – helping reduce costs and shorten development cycles for international and Indian markets.

A notable change in M&M’s strategy is its renewed focus on the sub-four-metre SUV category. Previously not a priority for the brand, this lucrative space has re-emerged as a volume opportunity following recent tax revisions and the good reception for XUV 3XO. While Mahindra continues to be popular in the 4.5-metre SUV space, smaller SUVs are now being viewed as a key growth lever.

Mahindra Vision.T (1)

The Vision S, Vision X and Vision T concepts preview how this strategy could unfold. The Vision S is widely expected to evolve into a compact SUV positioned as a smaller and more everyday interpretation of the Scorpio N. The Vision X, on the other hand, hints at a crossover-style product while Vision T has already confirmed Mahindra’s intent to create an electric-only version of the Thar.

Running alongside the product planning is Mahindra’s changing global approach. South Africa has emerged as a test bed for the new strategy where the focus is on building dealer networks, service infrastructure and parts availability before pushing volumes. Behind the scenes, Mahindra’s confidence has been bolstered by the strong reception to its born-electric models.

Over 30,000 electric vehicles have been sold within a few months of launch with a significant share of buyers being first-time Mahindra customers. To capitalise on this momentum, Mahindra is also strengthening partnerships with global suppliers in electronics, safety systems and digital technologies – intended to fast-track feature integration and software capabilities without compromising production timelines.

Hyundai India’s SUV Roadmap To Expand With Hybrids, EVs & New Nameplates

GaadiWaadi -

2025-Hyundai-Palisade-1.jpg

Hyundai is all pumped to bring in a number of new hybridised vehicles over the next few years in the domestic market

Hyundai appears to be consolidating its product strategy for India with hybrids taking centre stage even as electric vehicles remain part of the long term plan. Over the next two to three years, the company is expected to introduce three new hybrid-focused SUVs – each targeting a different segment and customer profile.

At the top of this roadmap sits a potential flagship hybrid SUV, widely believed to be the global Palisade. While not officially confirmed for India, the large three-row SUV is under evaluation and could arrive toward the latter half of the decade. Internationally, the Palisade Hybrid combines a 2.5-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor returning high fuel efficiency.

If green lit for India around 2028, it would become Hyundai’s most premium offering. Moving down the ladder, Hyundai is also developing a new three-row midsize SUV – internally referred to as Ni1i. It is expected to slot between the Alcazar and the discontinued Tucson, offering more space, a more premium cabin and stronger road presence than the Alcazar.

2026-Kia-Palisade-Hybrid-SUV-2.jpg

The SUV is likely to use a hybrid-ready version of the 1.5-litre petrol engine and could debut around 2027. The biggest volume generator, however, will remain the fourth-gen Creta. Known internally as SX3, the new Creta is under development on an all-new platform and will feature revised proportions, a sharper exterior and a fully redesigned cabin.

While existing petrol, turbo petrol and diesel engines may continue, the headline addition will more likely be a strong hybrid setup based on the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine – developed to meet tighter emission norms and deliver significantly better fuel economy.

The new ICE and hybrid Creta is expected to arrive before a Creta EV facelift – suggesting a phased approach to electrification through 2027. In CY2026, the Korean auto major will bring in its first heavily localised compact SUV and it will target high volume sales against the likes of Tata Punch EV.

Toyota Planning A New Compact Lifestyle Land Cruiser SUV – Thar Rival?

GaadiWaadi -

Toyota Electric Land Cruiser Se Concept

Toyota Land Cruiser series could give rise to a new lifestyle SUV based on the Land Cruiser Se Concept in just over a couple of years

Toyota is reportedly working on another expansion of its Land Cruiser portfolio with a new monocoque-based SUV said to be under development. Internally described as a production evolution of the Land Cruiser Se Concept first showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, this model is expected to get a distinctly different approach compared to traditional body-on-frame Land Cruisers. Rather than being a pure hardcore off-roading machine, the upcoming SUV could be conceived as a lifestyle-oriented offering.

Positioning-wise, the monocoque Land Cruiser is expected to sit in the midsize SUV segment – potentially measuring around 4.4 metres in length – allowing it to compete with lifestyle off-roaders and midsize SUVs globally. Alongside this project, Toyota is also preparing a smaller Land Cruiser FJ model which is expected to surface as early as February 2026.

The Land Cruiser Se Concept provides a strong hint at the proportions Toyota may carry forward. The concept measured 5,150 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width and 1,705 mm in height – giving it a noticeably sleeker and lower stance compared to existing Land Cruiser models. If utilised for production, it would mark a significant change in styling.

Toyota Electric Land Cruiser Se Concept-2

Unlike the Land Cruiser 300 and LC 250, the new model is expected to prioritise design, comfort and daily usability while still retaining credible all-terrain capability. Toyota is believed to be targeting buyers who want the Land Cruiser nameplate but not too rugged in its character. As per current indications, the SUV could arrive globally around 2028, placing it firmly under the flagship LC 300 in Toyota’s lineage.

Seating configurations are expected to include three rows with a two-row layout likely for select markets. Under the skin, Toyota is said to be developing the SUV on a flexible architecture capable of supporting multiple powertrain options. Battery electric and hybrid electric setups are both under consideration – allowing the brand to sell the model for different global markets.

A sophisticated all-wheel-drive system using Toyota’s next generation DIRECT4 technology is expected to handle torque distribution dynamically based on driving conditions. The SUV is being engineered as a software-defined vehicle – built around Toyota’s upcoming Arene platform. It would enable over-the-air updates, advanced driver assistance features and continuous improvements through software integration.
