Renault And Nissan To Enter The Crowded SUV Segment With New Models

GaadiWaadi -

Dacia Duster

Scheduled to go on sale next year, the Renault and Nissan SUVs will further intensify the competition in the already crowded mid-size segment

The mid-size SUV segment has become the most competitive space in the Indian automotive market, accounting for around 13 models. Tata Motors recently launched the Sierra, while Maruti Suzuki introduced its second offering in the segment in the form of the Victoris. Now, Renault and Nissan are also targeting the mid-size SUV segment, with two brand-new products slated for launch in 2026.

Renault has already confirmed that the new-gen Duster will debut in the Indian market on January 26. While the details are scarce at the moment, the SUV will be quite similar to the international spec model in terms of design, however, there could be some country-specific changes.

The third-generation Duster will be based on the CMF-B platform, measuring around 4,360 mm long, with a wheelbase of 2,673 mm. While a big part of Duster’s popularity in India was because of its smooth and efficient diesel powertrain,  the upcoming model will only rely on petrol engines.

The international spec model comes with a 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol motor, however, we will likely get the 1.3-litre HR13 turbo petrol unit, tuned to produce 154 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox. Apart from this, a localised strong hybrid powertrain is also under consideration for India, which could be introduced at a later stage.

Nissan will also introduce a new mid-size SUV in the Indian market. Dubbed the Tekton, it will be based on the Renault Duster, using the familiar CMF-B platform. It will likely be launched around the same timeline, most probably in the first half of 2026. The Japanese carmaker gave a small glimpse of the Tekton’s exterior design, highlighting its inspiration from the flagship Patrol SUV.

Nissan Tekton

The Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton will be quite familiar in terms of major mechanical parts, albeit with a different top hat. We expect both SUVs to carry a similar feature kit, but there could be some differentiation in the variant distribution. The Nissan SUV will share the powertrain with the Duster, i.e. the 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine, putting 154 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque.

Renault and Nissan are banking on the popularity of the mid-size SUVs in India, which is expected to grow in the coming years. The segment has around 13 models as of now, making it quite crowded, with the Creta leading the sales chart. It will be interesting to see how the launch of the Duster and Tekton will affect the overall market dynamics of the mid-size SUV segment.

Mahindra Aims To Achieve 7,000 Units In Monthly EV Sales Soon

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra XEV 9S 3

Early success with the first two models in the dedicated EV portfolio instils confidence in Mahindra to expand production and raise sales targets

Having received a phenomenal consumer response for its ‘Born Electric’ line-up, Mahindra is ramping up production. The company expects its monthly sales to grow significantly in the coming months, according to a new report from PTI.

At the launch of the XEV 9S this month, Mahindra announced plans to expand the production capacity of Born Electric models at the Chakan (Maharashtra) plant from currently 90,000 units to 1.2 lakh units by March 2026. The operationalised production capacity stands at 5,000 units per month, and the company plans to raise the actual output as well, to 8,000 units per month.

Rakesh Jejurikar, the Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive and Farm Divisions, told PTI that the company expects to sell 7,000 units—nearly 90% of the produced volume—per month. By March 2028, Mahindra anticipates that approximately 25% of its sales will come from electric models. The majority of this EV volume should come from the dedicated models like the BE 6, XEV 9S, and XEV 9e.

In the future, Mahindra will export its EVs to both RHD and LHD markets, beginning with the former. The company is eyeing the UK and EU with its Born Electric models, and the former is likely to be the first destination when it is ready for exports. The versions shipped to European markets may have several technical changes to comply with the different safety regulations and meet local consumer preferences.

Between April 2021 and March 2027, Mahindra will have invested up to 16,000 crore rupees in dedicated EVs. Of these 16,000 crore rupees, it has allocated 6,500 crore rupees for the launch of the current three models, including 4,500 crore rupees for the BE 6 and XEV 9e combined and 2,000 crore rupees for the XEV 9S.

Tata Punch Facelift Spied Testing Again, Launch In Early 2026

GaadiWaadi -

Tata Punch facelift

Tata Motors’ best-selling car expected to get its mid-cycle refresh with improvements in styling, comfort, and safety

The facelifted Tata Punch doesn’t appear to be planned for launch this year as media reports initially suggested. However, Tata Motors is continuing to test the updated model on public roads, new spy shots have revealed.

Latest spy shots indicate that Tata Motors is designing the facelifted Punch similar to the Punch.ev. Noticeable differences are expected at the front, but with a familiar look. The Punch should continue featuring a split headlamp setup post facelift, but with a slimmer design for the daytime running light and brighter and more efficient, LED main lamps.

Spy pictures have revealed that the facelifted Punch will feature a new radiator grille with horizontal slats, which should lead to a more elegant styling. The front and rear bumpers are also expected to be new. Tata Motors will likely offer newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels and tail lamps as well. In the tail lamps, the visual revisions will likely extend beyond the cluster, with a fresh shape making the new look immediately noticeable.

Tata Punch facelift (2)

The interior of the new Tata Punch should also have a number of cosmetic improvements. Spy shots have already revealed a new two-spoke steering wheel, an improvement aimed at giving the car a classier look. The new steering wheel should feature an illuminated brand logo, making the car more appealing to tech-savvy and young customers.

Another major upgrade inside could be a 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a feature already available in the Punch.ev. Ventilated front seats, also borrowed from the electric derivative, should improve comfort. Tata Motors may level up safety with the introduction of a 360º camera system, blind spot monitor, and six airbags.

Tata Punch facelift (1)

The new Tata Punch is unlikely to have any changes with respect to the engine or transmission. The company may offer it with the same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that produces 87 hp and 115 Nm of torque and 1.2-litre Revotron bi-fuel petrol-CNG engine that develops 72 hp and 115 Nm of torque running on gas. A 5-speed manual transmission will be standard, but while Tata Motors gives a 5-speed AMT option with only the petrol engine in the current model, it may offer that even with the petrol-CNG engine in the new one.

Tata Motors may launch the new Punch sometime in early 2026 and price it from around INR 5.60 lakh (ex-showroom).

4 Confirmed New SUV Launches In December 2025 In India

GaadiWaadi -

tata-safari.jpg

The final month of 2025 is shaping up to host as many as four new SUV launches and here we have brought you a rundown

As the year winds down, the SUV segment is gearing up for a busy finish. Maruti Suzuki and Tata are preparing fresh entries for the midsize category, while Kia is lining up a major world premiere of its most successful model in the country. Here’s how the final-month rollout is shaping up:

1. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara:

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Production Narendra Modi Flag Off 1

Maruti Suzuki’s first passenger electric vehicle, the e Vitara, is based on the new EV-focused Heartect e skateboard platform and it will target a range of more than 500 km per charge. Two battery choices will be offered at launch – 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The cabin will be loaded with features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen system, a fully digital instrument display, Level 2 ADAS functions, auto climate control, seat ventilation and more. Set to be sold in four variants, it will go on sale on December 2, 2025.

2&3. Tata Harrier & Safari Petrol:

Tata Motors is finally ready to add a petrol powertrain to the Harrier and Safari range. Both SUVs will adopt the new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged direct-injection engine, estimated to produce roughly 168 PS and 280 Nm. The Hyperion petrol motor will come paired with a six-speed manual and six-speed torque converter automatic transmissions.

Tata Harrier & Safari Adventure X Persona

Both will be officially launched on December 9, 2025. Following the Sierra’s launch a few days ago in its ICE form, the petrol-powered Harrier and Safari are expected to help garner a wide range of buyers as their asking price will be lower compared to the similarly-spec diesel versions.

4. Next-Gen Kia Seltos:

Kia’s second-generation Seltos is nearing its international premiere as it is expected to break cover in Korea on December 10, 2025 before its Indian introduction sometime in early 2026. Having played a crucial role in lifting Kia’s presence here since its debut, the SUV is headed for its biggest transformation to date.

The camouflaged prototypes have already revealed an upright face, a new mesh-pattern grille, pronounced C-shaped DRLs and vertically stacked LED headlamps. Inside, Kia is reportedly reworking the cabin with a new dash panel, better-grade materials, etc. The trusted trio – the 1.5 NA petrol, 1.5 turbo petrol and 1.5 diesel – should continue with manual and automatic choices. A hybrid option is being studied for select global regions.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara To Finally Launch In India Next Week – All Key Details

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara 1

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will be available with two LFP battery packs – a 48.8 kWh unit and a 61.1 kWh pack – with the claimed range of over 500 km

Maruti Suzuki is finally ready to announce the official prices of its first all-electric SUV in the country, but interestingly, India isn’t the market that got it first. The e Vitara has already been in series production for months at the company’s Gujarat plant where units meant for export began piling up as early as August.

Before even setting foot on Indian roads, the EV had already travelled across Europe with shipments sent from Pipavav Port to countries such as Norway, the UK, Germany, Austria, Iceland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Hungary and France. Over 2,900 units formed the initial batch and more than 6,000 units were shipped a couple of months back.

While all of this was happening, Maruti kept its domestic SUV portfolio busy with the launch of the Victoris – a midsize SUV positioned below the Grand Vitara. Rolled out through the Arena channel, the Victoris quietly amassed upwards of 25,000 bookings within weeks. Now, the e Vitara will finally be launched on December 2, 2025 and it will be sold through Nexa outlets.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

Prices are likely to open above Rs. 17 lakh (ex-showroom). Two LFP battery packs sourced from BYD will be on offer: a 48.8 kWh unit and a 61.1 kWh pack. The latter will be claimed to deliver more than 500 km of driving range. The smaller battery is paired with a 144 PS motor generating 192.5 Nm while the larger one receives a 174 PS motor with an identical torque figure.

DC fast charging trims waiting time considerably – taking the battery from 0 to 80 per cent in around 50 minutes. The SUV itself is built on the Heartect e platform, developed specifically to meet higher safety and structural rigidity targets for EVs. Maruti hasn’t skimped on equipment either. A 10.25-inch touchscreen, a sharp 10.1-inch digital instrument display, a 10-way powered driver’s seat, seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS functions and a 360-degree camera setup are some of the key highlights.

maruti-suzuki-e-Vitara-electric-SUV-2.jpgCompetition will be fierce the moment it arrives. Tata’s Curvv EV and Harrier EV, Hyundai’s Creta Electric, Mahindra’s XEV 9e and BE 6 and MG’s ZS EV along with the Windsor EV will all be waiting in the same arena.

New Renault Duster Spied Testing In India Again Ahead Of Launch

GaadiWaadi -

new gen renault duster spied india 2

The all-new Renault Duster will be underpinned by the CMF-B platform and is expected to feature two petrol engines at launch

Renault has been spotted running a fully camouflaged test mule of the new generation Duster near its Chennai manufacturing hub and despite the heavy disguise, the design elements and silhouette clearly mirror the global-spec model. The SUV is scheduled to make its official Indian debut on January 26, 2026 with a seven-seater derivative to follow at a later stage.

Unlike the earlier model, the upcoming Duster will not carry forward any mechanical or design elements from its predecessor. Instead, it will be built on a heavily localised version of Renault-Nissan’s CMF-B platform with production planned at the company’s Oragadam facility. It indicates a new start for the nameplate as well as the brand in India as a slew of new models are waiting in the pipeline.

The revival of the Duster moniker is a key part of Renault’s global International Game Plan 2027 which focuses on emerging markets. Alongside the new Duster, the company has also mapped out a budget urban EV and a three-row SUV for regions like India. Essentially, the Duster acts as the first stepping stone in Renault’s renewed strategy to rebuild its SUV portfolio here which only comprises the Kiger.

But the segment has changed drastically since the original Duster arrived in 2012. Back then, it shaped the midsize SUV space almost by itself. Today, it enters a battlefield where Hyundai Creta leads the charge with strong competition from established carmakers. On the inside, Renault is expected to offer a more upscale and tech-rich cabin this time around.

Highlights will include a 10.1-inch OpenR touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a high-mounted centre console with an electronic gear selector and Y-shaped design elements running across the dashboard and door trims. The feature list will be stacked with wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, Type-C fast charging ports, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a 360-degree camera system.

On the safety front, buyers can expect six airbags, electronic stability control and Level 2 ADAS including lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring and autonomous emergency braking. While Renault hasn’t officially confirmed engine options, the SUV will more likely arrive with two petrol motors – paired with both manual and automatic transmissions. A hybrid variant could arrive in the future.

The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol produces 160 PS and 255 Nm while the familiar 1.5-litre diesel engine generates 120 PS and up to 280 Nm. There is also a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 106 PS and 145 Nm.

Mahindra XEV 9S

Mahindra XEV 9S Pack One Above entry-level trim is loaded with premium features including triple 12.3-inch screens

Mahindra has completely shaken up the electric SUV space with the XEV 9S base variant, the Pack One Above, proving that you no longer need to buy a top-end trim to get premium features. Priced at Rs. 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom), the base variant already offers performance, technologies, equipment and other creature comforts that many rivals reserve for their flagship models.

The XEV 9S comes with two battery pack options – 59 kWh and 79 kWh, both offering commendable performance and fast charging capability. With a 180 kW DC fast charger, the 79 kWh version can charge from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes while the 59 kWh version supports up to 140 kW fast charging. Power output is equally impressive with 210 kW on the 79 kWh pack and 170 kW on the 59 kWh pack.

On the mechanical side, buyers get Electric Power Steering with Variable Gear Ratio, a tight 10-metre turning circle, multiple driving modes with Boost Mode, multi-step regeneration and one-touch single pedal driving. The suspension setup comprises iLink front suspension and a 5-Link rear suspension along with MTV-CL technology and Frequency Dependent Damping.

To reduce road noise and improve efficiency, the SUV runs on low rolling resistance tyres with NVH reduction. Cruise control comes standard as well. As for styling, the Pack One Above variant feels anything but basic. It comes with a massive panoramic sunroof, an illuminated Mahindra logo, sharp Bi-LED headlamps with DRLs, full LED tail lamps, etc. Inside, premium fabric upholstery, CapTouch switches on the centre console and 18-inch wheels with aero covers can be found.

Even in the base model, the Mahindra XEV 9S gets 6 airbags, a high stiffness bodyshell, all-wheel disc brakes and a brake-by-wire technology. It also gains an electronic brake booster with 46 value-added features, driver drowsiness detection, TPMS with individual tyre pressure display, electronic parking brake and rear parking sensors with HD camera.

On the technology front, the XEV 9S offers triple 12.3-inch screens powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset. Connectivity options include wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay as well as 5G support, built-in Amazon Alexa and pre-installed OTT, social media, news and shopping apps. Owners also get Mahindra’s connected tech via the Me4U app – offering features like cabin pre-cooling, scheduled charging and remote commands.

The audio setup includes 4 speakers and 2 tweeters. Other highlights are sliding second-row seats, 60:40 split seats with multi-step recline, a height-adjustable driver seat and seatbelt, and a fully loaded cabin with push-button start, auto headlamps, cooled centre console, tilt and telescopic steering, and one-touch power window for the driver, rain-sensing wipers and full automatic temperature control with rear AC vents. Storage is another strong point with a 150-litre frunk and a rear boot capacity of up to 527 litres – plus a frunk with a drain hole and illumination.

2025 Tata Sierra Launched, Priced From Rs. 11.49 Lakhs

Tata Sierra Yellow

Tata launches new 2025 Sierra with fresh engines, premium features and safety

Tata Motors has reintroduced the Sierra nameplate with the launch of the all-new 2025 Sierra, priced from Rs. 11.49 lakhs (ex-showroom, introductory). Bookings will begin on December 16, while customer deliveries are scheduled to start on January 15. Positioned above the Curvv in Tata’s SUV range, the Sierra enters the midsize SUV segment, competing with models such as the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara and Honda Elevate.

New Platform and Powertrains

The 2025 Sierra is the first model to use Tata’s new ARGOS architecture (All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable). The platform supports multiple powertrain types, including hybrid and CNG, though the Sierra launches exclusively with petrol and diesel engines.

The SUV debuts Tata’s new 160 HP, 255 Nm 1.5-litre TGDI turbo petrol engine, paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. A 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit (106 HP, 145Nm) with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT is also available. The diesel lineup uses the familiar 118 HP and 260 Nm (MT) / 280 Nm (AT), 1.5-litre engine, offered with 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic options. The new Sierra is currently front-wheel-drive only, with an AWD version not planned at launch.

Design and Exterior Features

The Sierra retains several cues from the original SUV, including its upright stance, high-set bonnet and squared wheel arches. While the signature curved rear glass cannot be replicated due to modern safety norms, Tata has recreated the effect using a contrasting black panel above the rear windows.

Key exterior features include:

  • LED light bars at the front and rear
  • Vertically stacked LED headlamps
  • Illuminated flush door handles
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Powered tailgate
  • Wheel options ranging from 17-inch steel wheels to 19-inch alloys

Dimensions:

  • Length: 4340 mm
  • Width: 1841 mm
  • Height: 1715 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2730 mm
  • Ground clearance: 205 mm
  • Boot space: 622 litres (1257 litres with seats folded)

The Sierra is offered in six colour options at launch.

Interior and Features

The cabin features a three-screen layout, including a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch passenger display with wireless headphones. Other equipment includes:

  • Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
  • Head-up display
  • JBL 12-speaker audio with Dolby Atmos
  • Dashboard sound bar
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Ventilated and powered driver’s seat
  • Wireless charging
  • Two drive modes and three terrain modes

Rear occupants get 65W USB-C ports, sunshades, 2-step recline and a 60:40 split bench.

Safety Equipment

Safety features offered as standard or available include:

  • 6 airbags
  • All-wheel disc brakes
  • Electronic parking brake
  • ISOFIX mounts
  • 360-degree camera
  • Front parking sensors
  • ABS with EBD
  • Hill hold assist
  • Level 2+ ADAS with 22 functions

Given Tata’s consistent Bharat NCAP performance, the Sierra is expected to secure a 5-star safety rating.

Rivals

The 2025 Sierra competes in the midsize SUV segment against the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and MG Astor.

New Tata Sierra Booking & Delivery Details – 7-Seater & CNG Coming?

GaadiWaadi -

Tata Sierra (9)

New Tata Sierra will gain AWD treatment as early as next year courtesy of the EV while 7-seater and CNG iterations are also on the cards

With the new Sierra finally stepping into the spotlight, Tata Motors appears to be playing a long game rather than rushing variants into the market. The groundwork for multiple future derivatives is already in place including a three-row layout, an all-wheel-drive option and alternative fuel trims like CNG and possibly a hybrid.

A key part of this lies with Tata’s new ARGOS platform – short for All-terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable architecture. It has been engineered from the outset with modular flexibility and can accommodate petrol, diesel, CNG and hybrid propulsion systems without structural overhauls – giving Tata the freedom to scale the Sierra into several body and drivetrain configurations.

One of the most discussed possibilities is a 7-seater Sierra. Given ARGOS supports varying wheelbases and interior layouts – adding a third row isn’t a technical challenge as much as a product positioning decision. The newly launched Sierra has a long wheelbase and is one of the spacious Tata cars ever and additionally, it offers a large boot too – 622 litres in capacity.

Tata sierra (12)

Tata is reportedly waiting to gauge long term response to the standard five-seat version before committing to the extended format. If green lit, it could be positioned slightly below the Safari. Another talking point is all-wheel drive system. The AWD variant will be launched in the electric version of the Sierra – set to launch next year – first.

It could use the same dual motor configuration as the Harrier EV. The IC-engined Sierra is also expected to receive the AWD treatment within the next 12-18 months. Fuel options are also likely to expand beyond petrol and diesel in the future. With CNG slowly gaining traction in midsize SUV market, especially among high mileage users, the platform’s compatibility with gaseous fuel makes a Sierra CNG a feasible proposition.

Similarly, given Tata’s growing focus on electrification and hybrids, a strong hybrid version may not be too far off once the ICE range settles. The official reservations for the all-new Sierra will commence on December 16 while its customer deliveries are set to begin by the middle of January 2026. The full price list will be out next month too.

New Hero Xtreme 160R Launched – Ride Modes, New Design, Cruise Control

GaadiWaadi -

New Hero Xtreme 160R

New Hero Xtreme 160R gets new headlamp, revised switchgear, addition features like ride-by-wire throttle system, cruise control and ride modes

A few weeks ago, we showed you images of the updated Hero Xtreme 160R reaching dealerships across India. Following the listing of the motorcycle on its official website, Hero MotoCorp has finally announced the price of the 2026 Xtreme 160R 4V in its Combat Edition today. Priced nearly Rs. 4,500 more than the regular model, it gets a handful of new feature additions.

It comes on the back of increased competition in the 160 cc naked motorcycle space between Hero MotoCorp, TVS, Bajaj and others. The updated Xtreme 160R 4V gains cruise control and ride-by-wire throttle system and it is priced at Rs. 1.34 lakh (ex-showroom) while standard model costs Rs. 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). Amidst new features, no mechanical revisions have been made.

One of the key changes can be seen at the front. The updated motorcycle is equipped with a redesigned LED headlight inspired by the bigger Xtreme 250R. It is complemented by a new 4.2-inch LCD coloured instrument console. Meanwhile, tweaks to the graphics and paint jobs bring up a sportier stance as it has been made available in a total of four shades.

The ride-by-wire throttle system is accompanied by three riding modes (Rain, Road, and Sport) along with cruise control – a first for the 160 cc category in India. Hero already offers this feature in affordable models like Xtreme 125R and Glamour X. The revised switchgear on both handlebars enables riders to switch between ride modes and activate cruise control while moving.

The cruise control system apparently helps the rider to set and maintain a constant speed without continuous throttle input and it will reduce fatigue during long saddle hours. As for the performance, the new Xtreme 160R uses a 163.2 cc single-cylinder air- and oil-cooled, four-valve engine that kicks out a maximum power output of 16.6 bhp and 14.6 Nm of peak torque.

It is paired with a five-speed transmission. Suspension duties are performed by KYB USD forks at the front and a monoshock unit at the back while disc brakes on both ends are supported by a dual-channel ABS system. The four colour options are bronze/black, forest green/neon green, black with red accents, and matte grey shade exclusively in the Combat Edition.
