The second generation of the Hyundai Venue is scheduled to go on sale by the end of 2025; Fronx hybrid is also on the cards for this year

The compact SUV segment is among the most hotly contested segments in the Indian automotive market. The entry point into the SUV space, offering high ground clearance, commanding sitting position, ample cabin space and potent powertrains at an affordable price tag are some of the USPs of the compact SUVs. In this article, we will look at the new compact SUVs spied on test in India.

1. New-Gen Hyundai Venue

Hyundai has been road-testing the upcoming new-gen Venue in India and we have already seen several sets of spy shots in the past few months. Expected to go on sale by the end of 2025, the second-gen Venue will get an all-new exterior design and the front fascia will be inspired by the Creta. The sub-4-meter SUV will sport a connected LED DRL with qual-LED headlamps. Under the hood, the second generation of the compact SUV will continue to be powered by the familiar 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre tGDi petrol and 1.5-litre CRDi diesel engines.

2. Mahindra XUV3XO EV

The Mahindra XUV3XO EV has been spotted testing on multiple occasions and it is expected to be launched later this year. Internally codenamed S240, the electric compact SUV will rival the Tata Nexon EV and the upcoming Kia Syros EV. It will share its design with the ICE XUV3XO, albeit with some electric-specific touches. It is expected to share the battery packs from the XUV400EV, including the 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh units, however, nothing can be confirmed as of now.  We expect the XUV3XO EV to be priced at around Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom).

3. Tata Punch Facelift

The Tata Punch facelift was recently spotted testing in India, however, it is not expected to launch anytime soon. Going by the spy shots, it is clear that the facelifted Punch will share the exterior design with Punch EV, and the same can be said for the interiors. It will also likely get a larger 10.25-inch infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster. Mechanically, the Punch Facelift will remain the same with a familiar 1.2-litre petrol engine under the hood, along with the CNG fuel option.

4. Renault Kiger Facelift

Renault has confirmed the launch of the Kiger facelift this year and the test mule was spotted for the first time in February. The updated model will get a slightly tweaked design with new headlamps, bumpers, tail light and a fresh set of alloy wheels amongst others. In addition to this, the brand’s new logo could also be introduced in India with the Kiger facelift. Inside the cabin, expect some minor tweaks to the dashboard layout along with new feature additions. Under the hood, the familiar 1.0-litre NA petrol and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engines will continue to be a part of the package.

5. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid

Maruti will debut its in-house developed HEV series-hybrid powertrain with the Fronx facelift. Spotted testing earlier this year in India, the updated crossover is expected to debut in the Indian market by the end of 2025. In addition to the new hybrid system, the Fronx facelift could likely feature a revised exterior design, refreshed interiors and more features.

Internally codenamed YTB, the hybrid crossover will employ the familiar 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine under the hood. The major advantage of this range extender hybrid technology is the improved efficiency, which could be around the 30 kmpl mark in the case of the Fronx Hybrid.

Kia Records Positive Sales Growth For 5 Months In A Row – 22,000+ Units In May

GaadiWaadi -

Kia Carens Clavis1

Kia posted 22,315 unit sales in May 2025 registering a year-on-year growth of 14.43 per cent compared to 19,500 units

Kia India recorded domestic sales of 22,315 vehicles in the month of May 2025, registering a year-on-year growth of 14.43 per cent compared to 19,500 units dispatched during the same period last year. It must be noted that the Korean carmaker has now reported positive growth for five months in a row, courtesy of the good reception amongst customers.

The recently introduced Carens Clavis made a strong entry according to the brand, helping push volumes and generating notable customer interest. Kia is preparing for its next launch in July, building on the momentum established by its latest product arrival. We do expect it to be the electric iteration of the Carens Clavis which will become the first electric midsize MPV in the below Rs. 20 lakh range.

Speaking on the sales performance, Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President and National Head of Sales & Marketing, at Kia India, said, “The tremendous response to the Carens Clavis underscores the deep trust Indian families place in the Kia brand. With Clavis, we are looking forward to setting new benchmarks in the segment and making it more dynamic than ever before. Our strong sales performance in May, reflects the growing resonance of Kia’s diverse offerings across segments.

The battery-powered Clavis will reportedly set itself apart from its combustion-engine sibling through minor design updates and feature revisions. A subtly updated front end featuring redesigned LED Daytime Running Lights is expected along with tweaked alloy wheels to distinguish its electric identity.

Underneath, much of the EV hardware including the battery setup will more likely be adapted from the Creta Electric which made its debut earlier this year. What gives the Clavis EV an edge is the combination of generous cabin room, a practical three-row layout and a feature-heavy package. With no immediate rival positioned in its segment, it will stand in a space of its own.

The Creta Electric brings two battery packs to the table – 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh – the latter delivering a stated range of 473 km while the smaller unit claims up to 390 km between charges. Although the Clavis EV is tipped to feature the same setup, its extended length and added mass could see those figures trimmed slightly to around 450 km.

Toyota Recommends RON95 Fuel For Hybrid Models From March 2025

Toyota Innova HyCross Exclusive Edition

Toyota now recommends RON95 fuel for select hybrid models from March 2025

Toyota has revised its fuel recommendations for select hybrid models in India, advising the use of RON95 or higher-grade petrol starting with vehicles manufactured from March 2025. This update has been reflected in the latest owner’s manuals for the Toyota Innova HyCross and Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

For the Innova HyCross, Toyota has not differentiated between the gasoline and hybrid variants, implying that the RON95 fuel recommendation could apply to both powertrains. Meanwhile, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and its sibling, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, now require RON95 fuel specifically for their hybrid versions. The guidance is aimed at ensuring optimal engine performance and avoiding potential long-term damage, particularly to critical components like the catalytic converter.

The non-hybrid variants of the Hyryder and Grand Vitara can continue using RON91 petrol, which has been the standard fuel for most Indian vehicles. However, Toyota has cautioned that using lower octane fuel in hybrid versions may lead to premature wear of certain engine parts.

Maruti Suzuki’s premium MPV, the Invicto, which shares its platform with the Innova HyCross, will also follow the same updated fuel requirement for units produced after March 2025.

While RON95 fuel typically comes at a higher cost, Toyota’s recommendation highlights a shift towards enhancing long-term reliability and efficiency in its hybrid powertrains. Though RON91 fuel might still run the engines, doing so could come at the expense of part longevity and performance.

Much-Awaited Tata Harrier EV To Launch In India Tomorrow

GaadiWaadi -

Tata Harrier EV

Tata Harrier EV will boast a range of more than 500 km and the peak torque output will be around 500 Nm; will be sold in two battery configurations

The all-electric Harrier from Tata Motors has been quietly edging toward showroom readiness after a string of camouflaged test mules and public outings. Once a concept under Auto Expo lights, the EV gradually matured, eventually making an appearance in its production guise earlier this year at Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.

The Tata Harrier EV will be officially launched in India tomorrow at 2 pm. The teasers so far have given away some notable details including the presence of terrain modes such as rock crawl, snow and sand which should support its off-road abilities as the five-seater will arrive with dual motor configuration, one driving each axle.

In addition, the teasers also show off-road cruise control and a 360-degree camera system. Since it will have a lot in common with the ICE Harrier, the interior will boast a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a 10.25-inch digital instrument console with EV-specific graphical updates.

We already know that the Tata Harrier EV will feature a claimed driving range of more than 500 km between charges and it will support DC fast charging. Moreover, it will support V2V and V2L functions to further enhance its practicality. Previously, Tata revealed that the peak torque output will be around 500 Nm.

It is no secret that the electrified Harrier will be available in two battery options – a 75 kWh unit is highly likely. Much of what lies beneath the surface is expected to mirror the Curvv EV, which made its debut in India in 2024. The upcoming SUV is built on Tata’s Gen 2 EV architecture – a heavily revised take on the OMEGA Arc foundation.
