Tata Motors CNG sales stood at 1,39,460 units which outnumbered the combined volumes of diesel and electric vehicles in the FY25

Tata Motors ended the FY25 on a new high by becoming the third biggest automaker after Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai in the Indian market. However, the most interesting bit here is that the sales of the CNG-powered vehicles surpassed the combined volumes of diesel and electric vehicles. The Mumbai-based automaker captured the third position in overall sales in the last fiscal by beating another home-grown auto brand Mahindra in a fierce competition with a difference of 2.5k units. Tata Motors sold a total of 5,53,591 units in FY25 as compared to Mahindra’s 5,51,487 units.

In the fuel-wise breakup, Tata Motors retailed 2,80,355 petrol-powered cars, which contributed to the major chunk of sales. However, the demand for CNG vehicles soared to an all-time high with 1,39,460 units being sold during the FY25. The sales volumes for diesel and electric vehicles stood at 72,333 and 61,443 units, respectively.

The combined sales numbers of diesel and EVs make for 1,33,776 units which is still 5,684 units less than the sales of CNG vehicles. The CNG vehicles contributed more than 25 percent of Tata Motors overall sales in the last fiscal, which indicates that every fourth Tata car sold was a CNG model. Just so you know, the company doesn’t retail hybrid cars in the Indian market.

The best-selling CNG model in Tata’s portfolio was the Punch with 71,113 units. It was followed by Nexon and Tiago with numbers of 34,712 and 15,775 units, respectively. The Altroz too had a decent outing with 10,831 units of the CNG version being sold in the last financial year. However, it was the Tigor CNG which surpassed the sales of petrol (4,660 units) and electric models (4,820 units) with 7,029 units being sold during FY25.

Tata Nexon is the only model in India to come in all four fuel trims namely petrol, CNG, diesel and electric. The Punch, Tigor and Tiago have been rolled out in petrol, CNG and electric avatars. On the other hand, the Altroz is available in petrol, diesel and CNG versions while an all-electric model is in the pipeline and could be introduced soon.

VinFast partners with myTVS to expand EV service network and boost India operations

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is strengthening its presence in the Indian market through a strategic partnership with myTVS, a major player in India’s automotive service sector. The collaboration is set to establish 120 Extended Service Workshops nationwide, providing critical support for EV users, including servicing, charging infrastructure and dealership facilities in both urban and semi-urban areas.

VinFast’s expansion comes at a time when India’s EV sector is witnessing significant momentum. Industry estimates suggest the Indian EV market will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.4% between 2024 and 2033, potentially reaching a market size exceeding $2 trillion by 2033. Despite this growth, gaps in after-sales service infrastructure continue to pose a challenge for widespread EV adoption.

As part of its broader India strategy, VinFast is also investing $500 million to set up a manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. This plant, with a projected annual capacity of 1,50,000 vehicles, represents a key milestone for the company’s regional operations. The investment follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Tamil Nadu government earlier in 2024, underscoring the state’s growing importance as an EV production hub.

The partnership with myTVS is designed to ensure that VinFast customers have access to reliable after-sales support, a crucial factor in building consumer trust and encouraging EV adoption. The service centres will offer a range of solutions, from maintenance to charging support, aimed at enhancing the overall ownership experience.

VinFast has already introduced its VF 7 and VF 6 electric SUVs in India, catering to the rising demand for premium electric mobility. These models feature smart connectivity, digital displays and automatic software updates, targeting consumers seeking modern, tech-enabled vehicles.

The collaboration with myTVS is part of VinFast’s wider strategy to replicate an integrated sales, service and charging ecosystem across global markets, including Asia, North America and Europe. The company sees India as a key market in its long-term global growth plans.

BMW Group Achieves Highest Ever Sales In H1 2025 In India

GaadiWaadi -

BMW-Sales-2025-2.jpg

BMW, Mini and BMW Motorrad have combined to post a record-breaking tally of 10,343 units in the first half of 2025 in India

BMW Group India has wrapped up the first half of 2025 with its highest-ever tally of car deliveries, as combined sales of BMW and Mini models reached 7,774 units between January and June 2025 with a 10 per cent rise over the same period last year. Capping off an impressive first six months is each individual month in Q2 recording its best sales ever.

Out of the total, BMW contributed 7,477 units while Mini added 297 cars. BMW Motorrad, the company’s two-wheeler arm, delivered 2,569 motorcycles during this period. A large part of the growth came from long wheelbase offerings. Luxury cars such as the 3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, and the iX1 Long Wheelbase helped BMW record a 159 per cent jump in LWB sales compared to H1 2024.

They now make up 47 per cent of the company’s total passenger car sales in India. Within that, the 5 Series held the highest share among BMW sedans while the 3 Series remained the segment leader in its class. Electric vehicles also accounted for a significant portion of the success. BMW Group India retained its lead in the luxury EV segment with a total of 1,322 EV units sold in the first six months of the year.

The numbers mark a staggering 234 per cent jump year-on-year and EVs now account for 18 per cent of the brand’s total car sales. The iX1 Long Wheelbase was the highest-selling model, followed by the flagship i7. Customers benefit from complimentary Wallbox chargers, access to the nationwide fast-charging network and digital tools like Smart E-Routing and Charging Concierge.

BMW Group’s current EV range in India comprises six all-electric cars – the i7, iX, i5, i4, iX1 and MINI Countryman E—alongside two electric scooters, the CE 04 and CE 02. In the SUV category, BMW posted a 17 per cent growth in H1 2025 as their share in total car sales grew from 56 per cent in Q1 to 59 per cent in Q2.

The X1 stood out as the top contributor within the SUV range, accounting for over 30 per cent of BMW’s overall car deliveries and continued its dominance in the Indian premium compact SUV space. The X5 was next in line in terms of volume. Mini’s tally of 297 cars in H1 was led by the Cooper S which saw more than 60 per cent growth over the same period last year.

The Countryman E also played a key supporting role in the brand’s expanding EV strategy with the two models contributing almost equally to total Mini sales. On the Motorrad front, the G 310 RR took the top spot among entry-level offerings. In the adventure category, the 900 GS / GSA and the larger 1300 GS / GSA proved to be strong sellers. The S 1000 RR led the charge in the high-performance superbike space.

At the top end of the portfolio, BMW’s flagship range continued to build presence. The 7 Series, i7, X7, and XM – collectively grouped under BMW’s Luxury Class – remained strong contributors with the X7 alone crossing the milestone of 5,000 unit sales since launch. Both the 7 Series and the i7 remained segment leaders in H1 2025 too.

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Brezza

In June 2025, Maruti Suzuki continued to lead the way ahead of Mahindra, Hyundai and Tata in domestic volumes

The passenger vehicle dispatches for the month of June 2025 reflected varying fortunes as some manufacturers gained market share while others lost it. For instance, Mahindra & Mahindra registered 47,306 units in June 2025 – a growth of 18 per cent over 40,022 units recorded in the same month last year. Maruti Suzuki, despite leading in absolute volume, dropped to 1,18,906 units from 1,37,160 units in June 2024, reflecting a decline of 13 per cent.

Tata Motors reported 37,083 units for the month, down 15 per cent compared to 43,524 units in the same period last year. Hyundai’s June 2025 numbers stood at 44,024 units, a 12 per cent dip from the 50,103 units it had managed a year ago. Toyota Kirloskar Motor posted 26,453 units in domestic volumes, inching up by 3 per cent from 25,752 units during the same period in 2024.

JSW MG Motor ended the month at 5,829 units, marking a 25 per cent year-on-year rise over 4,644 units last June. The arrival of the Windsor EV and its Pro version more recently, has helped in gaining volumes but most of its models in the ICE range have not been performing as they used to in recent months. The brand is now preparing to strengthen its premium portfolio.

The month closed with contrasting trends as volume leaders like Maruti, Hyundai and Tata faced a pullback while Mahindra, Toyota and MG held on to upward trajectories. The entire automotive industry will be targetting high sales growth during the upcoming festive season as attractive discounts, benefits and other advantages will be put in front of potential customers.

Mahindra Vision S Concept Teased, Scorpio Electric Debut On Aug 15?

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra Vision S Concept1

Mahindra Vision S concept could spawn the all-electric Scorpio while the possibilities of the Scorpio N pickup can’t be ruled out either

Mahindra & Mahindra will unveil multiple concept models at the Freedom_NU event in Mumbai on Aug 15, 2025. Recently, the brand teased the Vision.T concept on its various social media handles, giving fuel to the speculations that the Thar Electric will be spawned by this very concept model. Now, it has teased the Vision.S concept, indicating that it might also unveil the Scorpio Electric at the event on August 15. It could also be the pre-production version of the Scorpio N pick-up which was showcased a couple of years back in 2023 in South Africa.

First things first, Mahindra will take the wraps of its future vehicle platform, which has been christened as ‘NU’. It will accommodate both ICE hybrid and pure electric vehicles. The teaser video of Mahindra NU shows the logos of both the ICE and Electric Origin. Hence, it is safe to assume that the architecture will be compatible with multiple powertrain choices such as petrol, diesel, EV and hybrid.

Now, coming to the Vision.S concept, it could either be the all-electric Scorpio or the Scorpio N pickup which was recently spotted testing on the Indian roads. Touted as a global product, the Mahindra Scorpio N pickup will be sold in various international markets such as South Africa, Australia and the Middle East. It could be equipped with the tried-and-trusted 2.2L diesel mill from the Scorpio N SUV.

If at all the Scorpio N pickup comes to life, it could also be available with petrol engine options to keep the costs down and meet the stringent emission norms. Some of the primary characteristics of the pickup model could be a 4×4 drive system, high ground clearance, drive modes, and tough suspension with leaf springs among others. The spy-images captured recently confirmed the inclusion of all these elements.

However, on the other hand, if the Scorpio EV is the vehicle in the teaser, then we assume it to be based on the same body-on-frame chassis and an electric powertrain in order to continue the SUV’s renowned off-roading credentials while being environment friendly at the same time. It could borrow the cabin and features from the ICE counterpart.

Though nothing is confirmed yet and we have to wait till August 15 when Mahindra finally unravels the surprise in the store. It is confirmed that the brand’s new-age EV and ICE platform will be showcased to the world alongside the Vision.S and Vision.T concepts. Stay tuned to this space for more updates on the same as we inch closer to the event.
