MPV choices in India may be limited, especially in the electric category, but that’s set to change this month with the launch of two models

The MPV segment is poised for an exciting time in India this month, with two new models set to be launched. One of those two will be India’s first locally manufactured electric MPV, setting a new milestone in the country’s automotive industry.

1. MG M9

First showcased at Auto Expo 2025, the MG M9 will be a luxury MPV measuring 5,200 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a 3,200 mm wheelbase. Confirmed to be sold via the new MG Select dealerships, it will be a luxurious seven-seat people mover designed for ultimate comfort. It is expected to be launched at the end of July.

Powering the MG M9 will be a front-mounted motor that produces 180 kW (241 hp) and 350 Nm of torque. A 90 kWh NMC battery pack that delivers a range of 548 km as per internal testing will be standard. Charging it via a 160 kW DC charger will take one and a half hours, while via an 11 kW AC charger, it will take approximately ten hours.

2. Kia Carens Clavis EV

The Kia Carens Clavis EV will be the pure electric derivative of the recently launched Kia Carens Clavis, the facelifted version of the Kia Carens. It will have seven seats and deliver a range of 490 km with a 51.4 kWh NMC battery pack. A standard-range variant with a 42 kWh NMC battery pack is also likely to be offered. The standard-range variant’s motor could produce 99 kW (133 hp) and the long-range variant’s motor could generate 126 kW (169 hp).

Bajaj, Ather & TVS To Likely Cut Electric Scooter Production – Here’s Why

GaadiWaadi -

2025 bajaj chetak-3

The rare earth magnets are sourced from China and used in the electric traction motors of e-scooters produced by the EV brands in the Indian market

Several leading EV brands in India namely Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and TVS Motor Company are likely to reduce production due to the disturbance in the supply of heavy rare earth (HRE) magnets from China. The electric two-wheeler companies have been facing this unfavourable situation for the past four months and it has finally resulted in a production cut. However, Ola Electric, yet another e2w startup based in Bengaluru, claimed that it will have no impact of the HRE magnets shortage and the production will continue uninterrupted.

The Pune-based mainstream player, Bajaj Auto, will be impacted the most by the dearth of HRE magnets as it has decided to reduce the production by half. Ather Energy will also bring down the manufacturing of e-scooters by 8-10 percent due to the paucity of rare earth magnets. TVS Motor Company, which has been ruling the electric two-wheeler segment for the last three months, will also scale down production to cope up with this scantiness.

For those asking, rare earth magnets are used in the electric traction motors of the EVs. “The disruptions in the EV supply chain, particularly concerning magnet availability, continue to pose challenges in the short to medium term. We are working actively to mitigate the prevailing challenges,” a TVS Motor spokesperson said.

“We’ve started to see some production disruption on the Chetak line. Our R&D and procurement teams are working on alternatives, which are now in advanced stages of development,” said Rakesh Sharma, executive director at Bajaj Auto. Ather Energy spokesperson did not respond to the queries. Just so you know, the four key EV brands namely Ola, Ather, TVS and Bajaj account for 8 out of 10 e-scooters sold in the domestic market.

Coming to Ola Electric, the company stated that it has adequate stock of rare earth magnets which can last at least 5-6 months. In fact, it could increase the production in July up to a certain extent. Though the company is also working on alternate solutions to battle this situation. Ola’s sales performance had witnessed a steep decline in the last few months and it was stripped of the segment leader title by Bajaj and TVS.

“There is no impact on production because of the rare earth magnets,” an Ola Electric spokesperson said, declining to elaborate further. The top officials from the Union Govt have been in discussions with their counterparts from the Chinese side so that the supplies can be restored at the earliest. The auto brands are also in touch with various other suppliers from Vietnam, Indonesia and Japan.

Honda Elevate gets up to Rs. 1.2 lakh in discounts for the manual variant in the month of July 2025 in India

The discount benefits across Honda’s domestic range have been revised in the month of July 2025. The company’s long running compact sedan, the Amaze, continues to feature in the list – now available with only corporate and loyalty discounts. These benefits are exclusive to existing Honda car owners – forming part of the manufacturer’s customer retention approach.

The third generation Amaze went on sale only late last year and it has been recently received amongst buyers. Compared to the old model, it gets a host of revisions inside and out but the performance remains the same. For the City sedan, Honda is offering up to Rs 1.07 lakh in combined benefits during July.

The total includes cash and exchange offers and places the City among the more heavily discounted midsize sedans in its class. The scheme is expected to be applied primarily to select petrol variants. The Elevate midsize SUV, introduced in late 2023, is also part of Honda’s July discount push but there is a catch.

New-Gen 7-Seater Duster (Bigster) Spied Testing In India For The First Time

GaadiWaadi -

Renault-Bigster-Duster-7-Seater-Spied-India.jpg

The Bigster comes with bigger dimensions resulting in a more spacious cabin and trunk compared to the Duster in Europe

Renault’s sub-brand Dacia unveiled the three-row Bigster in Europe late last year and it has been caught testing in India for the first time fully camouflaged. While the next-gen Duster midsize SUV is being prepared to launch in India, the arrival of its seven-seater counterpart is also inevitable. The former has already been teased in India and spied on test too.

Nissan will introduce a compact B-segment MPV later this FY before the debut of a midsize five-seater SUV based on the Duster and its seven-seater sibling. Thus, it is safe to assume that the Bigster for either brand is still some time away – launch possible in late 2026 or 2027. It is no secret that the forthcoming Renault Bigster will have a lot in common with the new Duster.

However, the differences between them will be significant too, both inside and out. The Bigster leans into its size advantage with larger dimensions translating into a noticeably more planted stance. Key exterior details include a Y-shaped daytime running light layout and a two-tone finish with a contrasting black roof. Recycled ‘Starkle’ polypropylene – sourced from post-industrial waste – features across the side cladding, lower bumpers and wheel arches contributing both to durability and Dacia’s sustainability push.

Dacia Bigster-5
Dacia Bigster

The SUV rides on 19-inch wheels. On the inside, headroom and legroom fall into segment-leading territory in Europe. The boot holds 667 litres with all seats up while the rear bench splits 40:20:40, making room for a variety of seating and storage combinations. Some of the equipment highlights are a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, flat-bottom steering wheel, multiple airbags and more.

In Europe, the base version of the Dacia Bigster comes with the TCe 140 drivetrain – a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine that pairs with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with 140 horsepower. For buyers seeking four-wheel drive, the TCe 130 4×4 builds on the same 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine, although its output is slightly lower.

Dacia Bigster-7

It gets a five-position Terrain Control system with Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-Road, Eco and Auto drive settings. Some variants also receive hill descent control to improve stability and control in tricky downhill situations. At the top end sits the Hybrid 155 which combines a four-cylinder petrol motor with a pair of electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery, generating 155 horsepower and 170 Nm of peak torque.

Dacia claims the system allows the Bigster Hybrid 155 to run in pure-electric mode for up to 80 per cent of the time while driving through city traffic. We expect the India-spec Bigster to use the same powertrain as in the upcoming Duster and reports indicate that a hybrid system is also being considered.

Updated 2025 Bajaj Dominar 400, 250 Launched At Rs. 1.91 Lakh

GaadiWaadi -

2025-Bajaj-Dominar-400-250.jpg

2025 Bajaj Dominar series gets new features such as ride by wire throttle with four ride modes, new handlebar and more

The Dominar nameplate steps into a new phase as Bajaj has updated both the 400 and 250 for 2025. The new feature additions aim at further improving long distance capabilities and usability. At Rs 2.38 lakh for the Dominar 400 and Rs 1.91 lakh for the 250, both ex-showroom Delhi, the new versions boast the most prominent change being the adoption of ride by wire technology on the Dominar 400, managed via an electronic throttle body.

It enables four riding modes: Road, Rain, Sport and Off-Road. Meanwhile, the Dominar 250 retains a mechanical throttle body but integrates four selectable ABS modes. The Chakan-based manufacturer has introduce a redesigned handlebar which aims to reduce wrist fatigue over long distances. The speedometer has shifted to a bonded glass unit with an integrated flap, prioritising legibility under tough weather.

Bajaj has also added a dedicated GPS mount on the carrier, tailored to riders who rely on precise navigation rather than phone-based improvisation. In addition, switchgear has been subtly revised to provide clearer tactile response. As the speedometer now sits under a weather sealed panel, enabling old school visibility with improved durability.

The Dominar’s journey began in 2017 as a sports tourer with muscle. Over the years, it has grown into something more grounded – especially with Bajaj’s ‘Dominar Odysseys’ initiative, where the motorcycles have crossed continents and clocked serious mileage including rides across the Arctic and along the Trans-Siberian Highway.

With seven successful Odysseys and over three lakh kilometres collectively covered by riders, the Dominar has built its reputation through use rather than image. With no performance updates, the 2025 Bajaj Dominar 400 is equipped with a 373 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine producing a maximum power output of 39.42 bhp at 8,800 rpm and 35 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm.

Both engines are paired with a six-speed transmission with a slipper and assist clutch as standard.

High-End Vehicles & Goods Carriers Become Costlier In Maharashtra With Revised Tax Structure

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 front

Maharashtra’s revised vehicle tax takes effect today, making luxury and goods vehicles pricier

Maharashtra’s revised one-time vehicle tax structure has officially come into effect from today, July 1, leading to higher costs for high-end cars, CNG/LNG vehicles and goods carriers across the state. The new policy, introduced by the state government, is expected to primarily impact luxury vehicle buyers and commercial vehicle operators, while electric vehicles will continue to enjoy full tax exemption.

Under the updated tax structure, the one-time tax ceiling has been raised from Rs. 20 lakh to Rs. 30 lakh. This means vehicles with ex-showroom prices exceeding Rs. 20 lakh will now attract higher taxes, with the additional tax amount for some vehicles going up by Rs. 10 lakh or more, according to Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials.

Petrol cars registered under individual names will continue with a tiered tax rate of 11% for vehicles priced below Rs. 10 lakh, 12% for those between Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 20 lakh and 13% for vehicles priced above Rs. 20 lakh. For diesel cars, the corresponding rates are 13%, 14%, and 15% across the same price brackets.

CNG and LNG vehicles across all price categories will see a 1% increase in their one-time tax from today, making them slightly more expensive for buyers.

Imported vehicles and those registered under company names, whether petrol or diesel, will continue to be subject to a flat 20% one-time tax, irrespective of price.

A significant change has also been introduced for goods carriers, including pickup trucks, tempos (up to 7500 kg gross vehicle weight), and construction vehicles like cranes or compressors. The tax for these vehicles will now be calculated at 7% of the purchase price, replacing the previous system where the tax was based on vehicle weight. As an example, a pickup truck with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 10 lakh, which earlier incurred approximately Rs. 20,000 in tax, will now attract around Rs. 70,000.

Previously, taxes for goods vehicles ranged between Rs. 8400 and Rs. 37,800, depending on their weight category, as per transport department data.

Electric vehicles remain exempt from one-time tax. The state government had initially proposed a 6% tax on EVs priced above Rs. 30 lakh but that proposal was withdrawn, reinforcing incentives for eco-friendly transportation.
