Skoda VW Sales Analysis June 2025 – Kylaq, Slavia, Taigun, Golf

GaadiWaadi -

Skoda Kylaq SUV

Kylaq gives Skoda its much-needed push in sales in June 2025 while Volkswagen managed to drop from the same month last year

Volkswagen Group’s core brands Skoda and Volkswagen had a decent month in India in June 2025. While both continued struggling with a minuscule market share, individually their sales performance was good, given the slow overall time for the Indian car market.

Skoda particularly performed well in June 2025, selling 5,014 cars and registering a 95% year-over-year growth. For reference, 2,566 Skodas were sold in the same month last year. As expected, the locally manufactured, MQB A0 IN platform-based models were the top sellers.

The Kylaq outsold all other Skodas by a big margin, registering 3,196 units. The Kushaq and Slavia both were below 1,000 units, interestingly with the latter recording a higher figure despite being a sedan. Skoda delivered 792 units of the Kushaq and 896 units of the Slavia. Compared to June 2024, these figures marked a year-over-year decline of 34% and 27%, respectively.

As for imports, Skoda delivered 130 units of the Kodiaq, which it assembles in India from imported knocked-down kits. Compared to June 2024, its sales were 5% down. It has yet to be seen if the recently launched second-gen model, which is very expensive, picks up steam in the coming months.

Volkswagen saw its sales decline in June 2025, but not by a big margin. The company sold 3,089 cars last month, 5% lower than in June 2024 (3,260 units). Unlike Skoda, it does not have an affordable sub-4 metre model on sale that can achieve big volumes. Rumour has it a corporate cousin in the name of VW Tera, similar to the one sold in Brazil, could be headed our way.

The Tiguan recorded just five units in sales for obvious reasons, 94% lower than in June 2024 (85 units). The recently launched Golf (GTI) saw 138 units being delivered in its first month of sales.

4 New Compact Electric SUVs Set To Arrive Soon From Big Brands

GaadiWaadi -

Hyundai-Inster-3.jpg

Here we have listed the soon-arriving four new compact electric SUVs from brands like Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra and Kia in India

The compact electric SUV segment is heading for a crowded grid as multiple manufacturers prepare to introduce new models over the next year and a half. Activity is expected to intensify particularly at the lower end of the EV market where the focus remains on affordability, practicality and usable range.

Tata, Hyundai, Mahindra and Kia each look set to bring new contenders to the segment as a handful of launches are in the pipeline:

1. Mahindra XUV 3XO EV:

Mahindra-XUV-3XO-EV-Spied.jpg

Mahindra’s electric derivative of the XUV 3XO has been spotted undergoing multiple test cycles – suggesting that its launch may not be far off. Expected to sit below the XUV400 in the brand’s EV hierarchy, the new model could use its sibling’s battery and drivetrain setup. Though the overall profile is likely to stay close to the ICE version, minor visual changes inside and out may be introduced to mark its electric identity. Once launched, it will line up against the Tata Punch EV, Nexon EV, etc.

Hyundai is lining up several electric offerings for the Indian market with the global Inster-based compact SUV slated to be one of the first models to arrive. Expected to reach showrooms in late 2026, the Inster EV has already made its presence felt overseas but it will likely boast India-specific changes and could be sold with two battery packs.

3. Kia Syros Electric:

The battery-powered version of the Syros which has drawn decent attention in its petrol form will more likely arrive on Indian roads in 2026. Built on foundations likely shared with the forthcoming Carens Clavis EV, the Syros EV is expected to be positioned squarely against the likes of the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 in the compact electric SUV bracket. Range figures could exceed 480 km per charge at least on paper.

4. Tata Punch EV Facelift:

First Tesla Showroom In India Opening On July 15 In Mumbai

GaadiWaadi -

2025 tesla Model Y4

The Tesla showroom in Mumbai will be located at Jio World Drive in BKC while a second showroom in Delhi will start operations by the end of July 2025

Tesla is all set to inaugurate its first experience centre in India on July 15, 2025. Located at Jio World Drive in Mumbai, it will be reserved for the VIPs and business partners in the first week while general public will be allowed from the next week. The American electric four-wheeler brand will open its second showroom in Delhi by the end of July 2025, confirmed sources. Tesla Model Y will be the first company car to go on sale in the Indian market. Needless to state, it will be sold as a full import from China.

Tesla is entering the Indian market at quite a crucial time as its global sales are dwindling. The Indian auto industry is the world’s third largest behind China and the United States of America. The experience centre at the BKC in Mumbai will offer the prospective buyers an insight of Tesla cars including pricing, variant info and configuration options.

Tesla will start taking pre-orders for the Model Y from next week while first deliveries are promised by the end of August 2025. A few leaked documents reveal that the first batch of rear-wheel-drive Model Y SUVs have already arrived in India from the brand’s factory in China. For reference, Tesla Model Y is the world’s best-selling electric car and it might well be the foremost reason why the company has selected it as the first Tesla to go on sale in India.

2025 tesla Model Y5

The Model Y imported from China has been valued at $32,270 (Around Rs 28 lakh). However, it is likely to be sold at a much higher price in India due to the 70 percent import duty which is levied on completely built units (CBUs) of electric cars with price below $40,000. It is estimated that after including all the surcharges, Tesla Model Y price in India will be even higher than its cost in the US which is $46,630 (Around Rs 40 lakh).

Tesla Model Y is a midsize electric SUV which comes with an array of bells and whistles in the form of Heated and ventilated seats, Power recline second-row seats, Hands-free automatic trunk, 15.4-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, 8-inch touchscreen for rear occupants, Blind Spot Monitoring, and over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Tesla claims that Model Y can achieve up to 293 km of charge in merely 15 mins by charging through its network of Superchargers. However, unlike the US where it has over 70,000 Superchargers, there is no such infrastructure in India right now. Though we have heard that the company has plans to establish the Supercharger network in India in a phase wise manner.

New Huawei Patent Reveals EV Battery With 3,000 Km Range

GaadiWaadi -

huawei luxeed s7

The new patent filed by the Chinese tech company Huawei reveals development of a new solid-state EV battery which can be fully charged in only 5 mins

Huawei, the Guangdong-based Chinese tech brand, has claimed to develop a new solid-state EV battery with a driving range of 3000+ km on a single charge. Furthermore, it can be fully charged in merely 5 mins. The patent filed by the company reveals that the EV battery features a nitrogen-doped sulfide electrolyte which drastically enhances the energy density to 400–500 Wh/kg—two to three times higher than current lithium-ion batteries. The ultra-fast charging ensures 0-100 percent charge in just 5 mins.

Presently, the biggest hurdle in the commercialization of solid-state batteries is the stabilisation of the lithium interface and lowering down the risks of harmful side reactions. The patent filing reveals that both of these can be overcome by nitrogen doping of sulfide electrolytes.

Though industry experts state that while theoretically it might appear impressive, it is unlikely to happen in the real-world with mass-produced prototypes. These claims are based on laboratory results, claimed the experts. There are a plethora of challenges in implementing this model in real-world and mass production due to sky-high production costs. Just so you know, sulfide electrolytes are quite expensive in nature, costing around $1,400 per kWh (Around 1.20 lakh).

Electric car battery

Furthermore, the inadequate infrastructure to support the ultra-fast charging rates is another major challenge among others. Huawei is presently not in the business of manufacturing power batteries, but the heavy investments made by the company in recent times in battery research and materials suggest that it intends to become a mainstream player in future.

One more point to notice here is that the driving range of 3000+ km on a single charge provided by Huawei is based on the CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle). On the contrary, if we consider the EPA cycle, it will come down to 2000+ km, which is still by far more than any of the mainstream EVs on sale right now in any part of the world.

Several leading global battery manufacturers such as Toyota, Samsung SDI, and CATL aim to begin commercializing solid-state batteries by 2027–2030. However, Huawei with its recent claim has took everyone by surprise and if materialised, it could change the face of the EV industry. It could entirely eliminate range anxiety and charging delays, therefore promising a brighter and bolder future of EVs.

Hyundai Ioniq 6 N Debuts With 650 PS Power & 257 Kmph Top Speed

GaadiWaadi -

Hyundai-Ioniq-6-N-1.jpg

Hyundai Ioniq 6 N arrives as the second high-powered EV from Hyundai’s N division following in the tracks of the Ioniq 5 N

Hyundai has chosen the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex as the venue to pull the wraps off its latest all-electric performance machine. The Ioniq 6 N arrives as the second high-powered EV from Hyundai’s N division, following in the tracks of the Ioniq 5 N. Powered by dual electric motors putting out 650 PS and 770 Nm, the Ioniq 6 N surges from zero to 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds when Launch Control is engaged before topping out at 257 kmph.

The brand’s engineers have reworked the suspension geometry and introduced a new electronically controlled damping system with stroke sensors. Alongside the lowered roll centre and revised chassis balance, the performance-spec electric sedan offers increased grip and greater stability through corners particularly at higher speeds.

The drive system is backed by what Hyundai calls the N Battery – a thermal management setup designed for varied track environments. Battery cooling hardware has been upgraded, conditioning time has been cut down and performance under stress has been strengthened through improved energy flow regulation and coolant heater enhancements.

Hyundai-Ioniq-6-N-2.jpg

Aiding driver involvement is the N e-Shift software. It replicates stepped gear changes through virtual cues mimicking traditional performance car behaviour. Integrated fully with other features like Drift Optimizer, Grin Boost, Launch Control and Torque Distribution, it adds depth to throttle control and cornering dynamics. Complementing this is the N Active Sound+ suite allowing sound profiles to be tailored to individual driving moods – from sci-fi buzz to mechanical aggression. Inside the cabin, the Ambient Shift Light gives a visual representation of shifting points, amplifying the feeling of engagement.

On the user end, the N Track Manager interface allows drivers to build circuits, log lap times and compare runs through ghost mode – offering data readouts for those who want to extract the maximum from their sessions. The Drift Optimizer further refines the rear-end behaviour allowing personalisation of drift initiation and angle depending on surface grip and driver input.

Hyundai-Ioniq-6-N-Interior.jpg

Visually, the Ioniq 6 N receives a set of aerodynamic upgrades. A swan-neck rear spoiler, flared wheel arches and lowered stance enhance both airflow management and aesthetic aggression. It also debuts a new finish – Performance Blue Pearl – an evolution of the brand’s signature hue with added depth and metallic texture.

Built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, the car’s underpinnings support both its straight-line acceleration and its cornering characteristics. With a rigid architecture and carefully distributed weight, the structure underscores the dynamic emphasis the N division has placed on its EVs.

Hyundai-Ioniq-6-N-.jpg

The Ioniq 6 N is about reconnecting the driver to the machine through layers of software and hardware control. Its sound feedback, shift simulation, ambient lighting and suspension variability aim to heighten the sensory experience behind the wheel. Back at the Goodwood paddock, Hyundai’s presence stretches beyond the new debut. A collection of N-branded machines are on display from the WRC Rally 1 Hybrid to earlier N-badged models, and the recently unveiled Ioniq 5 N TA Spec.

Hyundai has also set up a customer-focused pavilion near the hillclimb start line where an interactive pass unlocks access to a private grandstand and limited edition merchandise. The public display is timed around the ‘N Moment’, a synchronised run of Hyundai N machines climbing the hill including the Ioniq 6 N. The new model will also come with an optional line of N performance parts as well.
