Here we have explained about the five new midsize SUVs that are expected to launch within the next 6-9 months in India

The Indian midsize SUV market is on the verge of a major shake up. Over the next six to nine months, buyers can expect a slew of new contenders as automakers set to crowd the space with new launches. Names like Tata Motors, Mahindra, Renault, Kia and Nissan are already lining up their next set of products. Here’s a quick look at what’s in store:

1. New Renault Duster:

2024-Renault-Duster-Leaked-2.jpg

The all-new Renault Duster is preparing for its Indian comeback with a launch expected in late 2025 or 2026. The new iteration will be underpinned by the CMF-B+ architecture – a modular platform that the company is said to be currently localising for domestic use. In a significant departure from its old-gen model, the SUV is tipped to adopt hybrid powertrain technology but initially it could be only available with petrol engines.

2. New Kia Seltos:

The next generation Kia Seltos has been sighted on multiple occasions while being tested in India. Although Kia has not confirmed launch timelines yet, industry talk points to a 2026 arrival. A complete makeover is on the cards with the design language getting a major reset and the interior receiving a thorough revamp. Speculation continues around a hybrid-powered option becoming part of the range at a later stage.

Renault is lining up a compact MPV derived from the same architecture as the Triber which will be followed by a larger midsize SUV. The latter is expected to step in as a modern successor to the discontinued Terrano. Sharing its underpinnings with the forthcoming new-gen Duster, the SUV will also sit on the CMF-B+ platform and carry forward several commonalities in design and mechanicals. It has also been caught testing in India just as its Renault sibling and will launch next year.

4. New Tata Sierra:

Tata is preparing to bring back the Sierra nameplate – this time starting off as an all-electric model. The EV, tipped for launch before the current financial year closes, is likely to borrow its foundations from the Harrier EV. Once the electric version hits the market, the brand plans to expand the lineup with combustion-driven options too in 2026.

Upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser FJ (Mini Fortuner) – Launch Details & Specs

GaadiWaadi -

Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ-4x4-SUV_.jpg

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is expected to go on sale next year in India and it will be slotted below the Fortuner

Set to rely on Toyota’s IMV 0 ladder-frame platform, also employed by the Hilux Champ overseas, the Land Cruiser FJ will become the newest addition to the brand’s global off-road portfolio upon arrival. Rather than topping the lineup, it will sit at the lower end of Toyota’s rugged SUV hierarchy. Reports indicate that mass production will kick off worldwide in the second quarter of next year.

Patent sketches have revealed how the Land Cruiser FJ is shaping up for series production with styling that closely mirrors the previews shown earlier. The upright nose, chunky arches and slab-like roofline dominate the proportions. Positioned as a step beneath the Fortuner in Toyota’s SUV stable, the upcoming FJ leans heavily on retro-inspired touches drawn from its classic predecessors.

Speculation points to Toyota offering a wide engine spread – kicking off with a 1.5-litre diesel at the entry level. Higher up the range, the well-known 2.8-litre GD mild-hybrid diesel, complete with a 48V setup already used in other ladder-frame models, is tipped to make an appearance. Adding to its off-road intent, the Land Cruiser FJ is also expected to feature a permanent four-wheel-drive system.

Leaked patent visuals hint at a rugged setup with boxy lighting elements – squared headlamps paired with C-shaped DRLs up front, and block-like tail lamps framed by chunky cladding at the back. Vertical panels give the SUV a tough stance while under the hood Toyota is preparing multiple engine choices adhering to the needs of different regions.

For the Land Cruiser FJ, Toyota is said to be weighing petrol-powered choices as well with talk pointing towards 2.0-litre and 2.7-litre four-cylinder units. While no confirmation has surfaced regarding a pure EV version, speculation persists that the platform could eventually support a battery-only setup further down the line.

Toyota is likely to equip the Land Cruiser FJ with a Torsen limited-slip differential, supported by selectable terrain modes aimed at boosting traction across challenging surfaces. While the company has not officially confirmed an Indian launch, the strong demand for its higher-end SUVs leaves the door open for this new model to eventually make its way here.

New Gen Hyundai Venue Caught Testing Again, Launch Soon?

GaadiWaadi -

New Gen Hyundai Venue Caught Testing Again

New gen Hyundai Venue will get a number of changes design-wise and inside the cabin while the powertrain choices could be retained

Hyundai’s new compact SUV is steadily advancing towards launch with heavily camouflaged prototypes becoming a common sight both in India and abroad. Frequent road tests indicate that the development programme could be nearing its final phase as the latest images show wheel speed sensors which could be crucial for various system checks.

Industry chatter points to the next-gen Venue making its way into showrooms around the festive season. Hyundai has dropped the mesh-style grille – replacing it with horizontally layered rectangular bars stretched across the front. Although the Venue keeps its overall shape intact, the refreshed detailing conveys a more mature design direction. Complementing this, the new C-shaped DRLs sit alongside the main headlight units.

Codenamed QU2i, the third-gen Venue will stay the same in size compared to the current model but its design direction is taking a new turn. Inspiration from bigger models like the Creta and Alcazar is evident – especially up front where the styling has been reworked. The headlamp units are now stacked vertically lending the SUV a boxier stance.

Updates of the new generation Hyundai Venue extend beyond the fascia as Hyundai has reshaped the side body panels and added new 16-inch alloy wheels as well. At the rear, the bumper and tailgate have been redesigned – joined by a revised tail lamp cluster. Capping the changes is a reprofiled roof spoiler that completes the updated look.

Inside, Hyundai is said to be preparing big changes with highlights like a dual-pane sunroof, bigger touchscreen unit and Level 2 ADAS making their way in. The cabin itself won’t stay untouched either – gaining a new dashboard setup, updated centre console and new upholstery finishes amongst other enhancements.

Powertrain options for the new compact SUV are unlikely to change – carrying forward the 1.2L petrol, 1.5L diesel and 1.0L turbo petrol engines with same power and torque outputs. Transmission pairings should stay identical too with a six-speed manual, six-speed automatic and seven-speed dual-clutch auto expected to be on offer.
