Tata Motors Working On 3 New Compact SUVs – All Key Details

Tata Motors lines up three new small SUVs for launch later this decade, eyeing a stronger market share in the hotly contested sub-4 metre segment

Tata Motors’ next product offensive will include a wide range of new SUVs, including three sub-4 metre models designed to compete in India’s most competitive segment. The company will launch two of these three sub-4 small SUVs within three years.

This October, right in the peak time of the festive season, Tata Motors will launch the facelifted Punch. The updated model will likely feature a thoroughly revised exterior inspired by the Punch.ev and have tweaked headlamps, redesigned bumpers, and new 16-inch alloy wheels. More significant improvements are expected inside, with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment replacing the current model’s 7.0-inch unit and a 4-inch driver information display being swapped with a larger panel.

The new Tata Punch will likely come with the same 1.2-litre petrol and petrol-CNG engines as the current model. The same goes for the 5-speed manual and automated manual transmission options. That said, while the current Punch CNG is available only with the 5-speed manual transmission, the new Punch CNG is expected to be available even with the 5-speed automated manual transmission.

Sometime in 2027, Tata Motors will launch the second-generation Nexon (codename: Garud). Based on a thoroughly updated version of the current model’s X1 platform, the redesigned model will likely be offered with the familiar 1.2-litre petrol and petrol-CNG engines.

However, it may not be offered with the 1.5-litre diesel engine, owing to the stricter BS7 emission norms that could shoot up costs to an unfeasible level. The future model should boast a host of new premium features, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, power driver’s seat, and Level 2 ADAS.

Also in the pipeline is a younger sibling of the next-gen Sierra, internally called ‘Scarlet.’ This model will feature a boxy and masculine character like Mahindra’s Thar and Maruti Suzuki’s Jimny. However, unlike these body-on-frame sub-4metre SUVs, Tata Motors’ squarish sub-4 metre SUV will be a monocoque model, prioritising comfort, driving dynamics, and efficiency above off-road prowess.

The Scarlet’s monocoque construction will also make it easy for Tata Motors to develop a pure electric derivative, which could potentially compete with Kia’s upcoming Syros EV. Positioned between the Nexon and Sierra, the future model could be priced from around 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect this model to arrive in showrooms sometime in 2028.

Maruti Suzuki is set to expand its footprint in the midsize SUV category with two new entrants – the Escudo and the e Vitara. Meanwhile, production of the all-electric e Vitara has already begun at the company’s Indian facility with exports given priority currently. Its domestic debut is just around the corner and the EV is expected to offer a driving range of more than 500 km on a single charge.

Tata To Launch Over 15 New Cars By 2030 – Sierra, Scarlet & More

GaadiWaadi -

tata avinya electric concept-2

Tata is looking to bring in a host of new products across different segments and price brackets and here is a sneak peek

Tata Motors has drawn up a long-term product roadmap that stretches all the way to 2030 with more than 15 launches in the pipeline. It will include facelifts, updated iterations and full model generations but the real highlight lies in the seven all-new nameplates slated to debut. They vow to consolidate Tata’s line-up substantially but only a handful of details are known yet.

At the forefront will be the eagerly awaited production version of the Sierra followed by the fully realised Avinya – a concept that has already generated buzz. While the Sierra is set to make its market debut ahead of the Avinya, the latter is tipped to take the crown as Tata’s most upscale offering yet and it will involve multiple iterations.

Tata is preparing to bring back the iconic Sierra badge by the end of this financial year with plans to offer it in both electric and petrol formats. The all-electric version will more likely have a lot in common with the recently launched Harrier EV and thus we can expect a claimed driving range of more than 500 km between charges.

The ICE option, on the other hand, will feature the company’s new 1.5-litre TGDI four-cylinder petrol motor which is capable of producing roughly 168 PS and 280 Nm of torque. In addition to the petrol and EV trims, the forthcoming Sierra will get Tata’s proven 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine – coupled with a six-speed MT or a six-speed AT.

Beyond this confirmed lineup, the company also teased several under-wraps projects during a recent dealer meet including the codenamed ICE Product A and ICE Product B along with a duo of electric offerings dubbed EV Product X and EV Product Y. To back this expansive roadmap, Tata has committed close to Rs. 35,000 crore.

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Production Narendra Modi Flag Off 1

Over 2,900 units of the e Vitara were shipped from Pipavav Port in Gujarat to 12 European countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway and France

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has commenced exports of Suzuki’s first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara, in August. Over 2,900 units of the e Vitara were shipped from Pipavav Port in Gujarat to 12 European countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria and Belgium.

The new milestone follows the event at the company’s Hansalpur, Gujarat manufacturing facility on 26th August where Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi commemorated the start of e Vitara production and hailed Maruti Suzuki as a brand ambassador of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Exclusively manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, the e Vitara is central to Suzuki’s plan of positioning India as a global production hub for EVs.

The made-in-India e Vitara will be shipped to over 100 countries worldwide while also being sold in the domestic market. The model has already been previewed internationally in Milan, Italy and showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi, India earlier this year. Speaking on the new milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said,

“The Hon’ble Prime Minister’s recognition of Maruti Suzuki as a brand ambassador of ‘Make in India’ is the highest possible honour we could think of. The start of export of e VITARA to Europe is indeed a proud and defining moment for us. To delight customers in over 100 countries, the product has to be truly world class in terms of technology, design, safety and performance.”

TDS Lithium-ion Battery Gujarat, a subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki, has commenced local production of lithium-ion cells and electrodes too – becoming the first company in India to achieve electrode-level localisation. It marks a huge leap forward for the country’s EV and hybrid ecosystem as India will no longer have to rely entirely on imported cells for hybrid electric vehicles.

Suzuki’s presence in India has grown massively with investments now exceeding one lakh crore rupees and generating over 11 lakh direct jobs across its vast value chain. Since operations began in 2017, the Hansalpur facility has produced millions of vehicles.

Back to the e Vitara, it will be available in two battery options with the claimed driving range going over 500 km between charges. Expected to launch in the coming months, the five-seater midsize SUV will be sold through Nexa dealerships.

BYD Reaches 10,000 EV Delivery Milestone In India

GaadiWaadi -

2025 BYD Atto 3

BYD has delivered its 10,000th electric passenger vehicle in India since operations began; currently sells four products

BYD has reached an important milestone in India by delivering its 10,000th electric passenger vehicle. The achievement shows the rising acceptance of premium EVs among Indian buyers. Over the years, the largest electric carmaker in the world has worked on more than just putting cars on the road as it also expanded its local presence consistently.

The retail and service network now boasts 44 dealerships across major cities alongside offering nationwide roadside assistance and extended warranty schemes. Partnerships have also played a role as one example being the tie-up with Relux Electric which is said to provide the BYD customers access to dependable charging infrastructure.

Globally, the Chinese carmaker has cemented itself as a dominant force in the NEV (New Energy Vehicle) sector. Having sold over 13 million NEVs worldwide, BYD claims to have cut carbon emissions by more than 106 billion kilograms by July 2025 – a figure equal to the absorption capacity of 1.77 billion trees.

BYD-SEAL-DELIVERY-INDIA.jpg

Recognition has followed too: BYD has remained on Kantar BrandZ’s list of the Top 10 Most Valuable Global Automotive Brands for three years running with its current brand valuation pegged at USD 14.4 billion. The company is also making moves on the product front. It recently unveiled what it calls the world’s first all-terrain test circuit in Zhengzhou.

The versatile track is designed with asphalt stretches, off-road trails, wet handling zones and even simulated snow and ice surfaces. Commenting on the new milestone in India, Rajeev Chauhan, Head of Electric Passenger Vehicles Business at BYD India, said,

BYD-eMax-7-Bookings-Open.jpg

“Reaching the 10,000-customer milestone in India is a proud achievement that reflects the growing trust and enthusiasm for BYD’s vision of cleaner, greener mobility. Every vehicle we put on the road reduces emissions, advances EV technology, and strengthens a sustainable mobility ecosystem. Referrals from existing customers have also contributed to this growth, underscoring the confidence and satisfaction they place in our brand.”

BYD’s product line-up in India comprises the recently launched Sealion 7, the Atto 3 electric SUV, the eMAX 7 MPV and the Seal sedan. Established back in 2007, BYD India now runs two plants spread over 1.4 lakh square metres with investments exceeding USD 200 million. In 2024 alone, BYD sold more than 4.27 million NEVs worldwide with a 41 per cent year-on-year increase.

Mahindra Sees Nearly 76,000 Unit Sales In August 2025 – All Key Info

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra Scorpio N (2)

Mahindra’s utility vehicles contributed 39,399 units in the domestic market as wholesale numbers were deliberately moderated to minimise dealer stock

Mahindra & Mahindra reported total vehicle sales of 75,901 units last month – a figure that indicates a flat growth compared to the same month last year when exports are included. However, within this tally, utility vehicles contributed 39,399 units in the domestic market – recording a nine per cent drop year-on-year. Counting overseas shipments, the UV business reached 40,846 units.

It is worth noting that on the commercial side 22,427 vehicles were sold in India. Mahindra said the demand at the retail end remained good, particularly in the SUV segment, where Vahan registrations rose 7.4 per cent over last year. In the commercial vehicles space, registrations in the sub-7.5-tonne LCV category also displayed healthy momentum with a 16 per cent annual increase.

However, management acknowledged that wholesale numbers were deliberately moderated in August to minimise dealer stock ahead of the anticipated GST rationalisation. Breaking down the passenger vehicle business further, Mahindra’s year-to-date UV sales for FY26 (April to August period) stood at 2,09,148 units versus 2,41,337 units a year earlier with a 15 per cent decline.

Mahindra XUV 3XO (1)

By contrast, the commercial vehicle portfolio delivered some interesting results. Light CVs under two tonnes slipped by one per cent in August with 2,925 units while the 2–3.5-tonne LCV range improved by 13 per cent with sales of 19,502 units. The three-wheeler category including electric options remained a bright spot for the homegrown manufacturer.

It grew by 13 per cent in August 2025 – tallying 10,527 units. From April to August this year, three-wheeler volumes touched 40,561 units, a sharp 33 per cent climb compared to the 30,570 units recorded in the same period of FY25. Exports also supported the company’s overall performance. At 3,548 units in August 2025, shipments were up 16 per cent on a year-on-year basis.

Mahindra XEV 9e EV

Cumulatively, overseas volumes in FY26 reached 15,989 units with a 37 per cent gain over the 11,700 vehicles shipped during the first five months of FY25. From the sales performance it is apparent that the utility vehicles faced headwinds domestically last month but commercial vehicles, three-wheelers and exports more than offset some of the weakness.

Mahindra believes that the festive season, together with potential GST reforms, will help unlock additional demand and stabilise wholesale volumes in the coming quarters. Last month, Mahindra hosted the Freedom_NU event and showcased four new concepts and a brand new platform which will enter production in a couple of years.

Bajaj Auto Records 4.17 Lakh Units In August 2025 With 5% Growth

GaadiWaadi -

2025 Bajaj Pulsar RS 2002

Bajaj posted total sales of 4,17,616 units in August 2025, resulting in a growth of 5 per cent over 3,97,804 units

In August 2025, Bajaj Auto recorded total sales of 4,17,616 units – a rise of 5 per cent over 3,97,804 units garnered a year ago. The top line number tells only half the story, though. Growth was driven from overseas while the domestic market remained muted especially on the two-wheeler side. Even so, the company managed to have a month-on-month momentum going into the festive period with exports shouldering more of the load than they did last year.

In two-wheelers, Bajaj posted 3,41,887 units in August – up 2 per cent on year. Domestic dispatches fell to 1,84,109 units with a decline of 12 per cent. Exports stepped in to balance the ledger, climbing 25 per cent to 1,57,778 units. In the commercial vehicle department, Bajaj delivered the month’s top notch performance.

Its volumes rose 21 per cent to 75,729 units – motivated by a huge 58 per cent jump in exports to 27,440 units. Meanwhile, the domestic CV sales advanced 7 per cent to 48,289 units last month. For a portfolio that tends to be cyclical, the breadth of growth across both home and export lanes is a positive read-through for the quarters ahead.

Bajaj-Chetak-3001.jpg

Look at the combined picture and the divergence is stark. The local sales across two- and three-wheelers came in at 2,32,398 units – down 8 per cent year-on-year. Exports, meanwhile, rose 29 per cent to 1,85,218 units. It pushes the export share of total monthly volumes to nearly 45 per cent – up from roughly 36 per cent in August last year.

Year to date, from April to August 2025, Bajaj has sold 18,94,853 units – up 2 per cent versus 18,54,029 units in the same period of 2024. The domestic volumes across segments are at 10,50,349 units – lower by 9 per cent – while exports have climbed 21 per cent to 8,44,504 units.

Sales in the two-wheeler space are effectively flat at 15,86,925 units for the April–August window as an 11 per cent decline in domestic dispatches to 8,52,732 units is countered by an 18 per cent rise in exports to 7,34,193 units. The commercial vehicles have done the heavy lifting – growing 14 per cent to 3,07,928 units.

Within that, exports surged 47 per cent to 1,10,311 units while domestic volumes edged up 1 per cent to 1,97,617 units – indicating a stable demand with stronger volume momentum overseas. If the improving export volumes sustain and festive buying lifts sentiment in India, the company is in for a successful tenure ahead.
