Mahindra 3-door Thar facelift will likely go on sale soon in India and it will get a host of revisions inside and out
Mahindra & Mahindra’s gamble with the Thar has paid off handsomely since its 2020 debut – turning the rugged off-roader into one of the most successful lifestyle vehicles in India. Over the years, the company has cleverly expanded the range to keep momentum alive — first with the more accessible 2WD version and most recently with the launch of the five-door Thar Roxx – both of which have struck the right chord with buyers.
The Thar’s popularity hasn’t shown signs of slowing down courtesy of the high demand. Mahindra is now focussing toward refreshing the three-door model. Nearly five years on from the launch of the second generation version, a mid-cycle update is in the works and camouflaged test mules have already been spotted on several occasions out on public roads.
The facelifted Thar is expected to make its debut in less than a couple of weeks. The update comes at a time when the brand is also showcasing its long-term ambitions – having recently unveiled four new concepts alongside a next-gen platform. In addition to this, Mahindra continues testing the updated XUV700 which is on course for an early 2026 launch.

Spy shots of the 3-door Thar facelift suggest that Mahindra is taking heavy design inspiration from the Thar Roxx. The SUV’s front bumper has been fully reworked – giving it a more muscular stance while the fog lamp housings now feature sharper detailing. The familiar grille has also received minor revisions and Mahindra is expected to introduce the C-shaped LED lighting signature to further modernise the look.
Alongside the refreshed front fascia, the updated Thar will feature newly styled alloy wheels to set it apart from the current version. However, Mahindra isn’t expected to tinker with the underpinnings as the SUV will retain its ladder-frame construction and proven engine options – the 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre turbo petrol, and 2.2-litre diesel powertrains will continue unchanged.

On the inside, the facelifted Thar will see a major upgrade with the introduction of a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system taking centre stage on the dashboard. The area around the gear lever is being reworked too with hints of a wireless charging pad making its way into the setup.
Mahindra has also redesigned the steering wheel to complement the refreshed cabin while the power window switches have been repositioned from the central console to the doors. More new features related to convenience and safety will be added too.
