Mahindra Thar (2)

Mahindra registered 58,021 units in May 2026 with an 11 per cent increase over the 52,431 units sold during the same period last year

Mahindra & Mahindra closed last month with domestic PV sales of 58,021 units – registering an 11 per cent increase over the 52,431 units recorded in May 2025. Its volume growth was supported by continued demand for the Scorpio, Thar and XUV 7XO while the company’s expanding electric vehicle portfolio added more volumes through the XEV 9S. Unlike several manufacturers that rely heavily on a select few products, Mahindra continued to spread its volumes across multiple SUV segments ranging from off-roaders to premium electric vehicles.

The Mahindra Scorpio remained the company’s biggest volume contributor during the month. Sales stood at 15,774 units – up 10 per cent from 14,401 units in May 2025. Its month-on-month volumes also improved by 7 per cent over April 2026. Even years after launch, the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic combination continues to attract consumers.

The Thar recorded 10,787 units in May 2026 – improving by 4 per cent year-on-year. The Scorpio and Thar generated more than 26,500 units – accounting for nearly half of Mahindra’s monthly passenger vehicle sales. Another appreciable performer was the XUV 7XO. The three-row SUV delivered 9,338 units and posted a healthy 45 per cent increase over the 6,435 units recorded a year ago.

The desire for feature-rich variants, ADAS-equipped trims and premium positioning continues to support the XUV 7XO’s consistently in the highly competitive SUV category. The Bolero remained a steady contributor with 8,933 units. While year-on-year growth was virtually flat, the utility vehicle continues to maintain a loyal customer base.

The recently launched Mahindra XEV 9S recorded 3,502 units and improved 8 per cent over April. The XEV 9e added another 1,939 units but volumes declined 31 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, the BE 6 contributed 902 units. Combined sales of the XEV 9S, XEV 9e and BE 6 crossed 6,300 units which put the brand in second position in the electric PV sales.

Tata Nexon (5)

Tata Motors’ domestic PV sales surge 42% in May 2026 as Punch and Nexon cross 39,000 units combined

Tata Motors recorded a total sale of 59,090 units in May 2026 – registering a notable 42 per cent year-on-year increase compared to 41,557 units during the same month last year. While overall volumes remained largely flat against April 2026, the growth was orchestrated by the Punch and Nexon while Harrier posted a healthy double-digit gain too.

The brand also had four SUVs among its top five best-selling models. The biggest contributor once again was the Punch. The micro SUV recorded sales of 20,208 units – becoming Tata’s most sold model and posting a substantial 54 per cent increase over May 2025. The Punch’s volumes also improved 6 per cent month-on-month.

Taking the Nexon into account, which delivered 19,100 units and grew 46 per cent year-on-year, the two SUVs accounted for more than 39,000 units and nearly two-thirds of Tata’s total sales during the month. Another top level performer was the Harrier. Following the introduction of the Harrier EV and increased attention around the nameplate, sales jumped 215 per cent to 2,815 units compared to just 894 units a year ago.

Its month-on-month volumes also improved 11 per cent. The Sierra continued to contribute in an appreciable manner as well – recording 6,606 units – but its sales declined 10 per cent compared to April 2026. SUVs remained the biggest draws for Tata last month as Punch, Nexon, Sierra, Harrier, Curvv and Safari collectively contributed more than 51,000 units.

While Curvv’s sales declined 45 per cent year-on-year to 1,680 units, volumes improved 20 per cent compared to April. The Safari, on the other hand, recorded 1,057 units and witnessed a marginal 5 per cent decline when compared to the same period twelve months ago. The hatchback and sedan portfolio faced a more challenging month.

Tata Harrier Petrol (3)

The Tiago’s sales fell 35 per cent year-on-year to 4,178 units while the Tigor dropped sharply by 51 per cent to 531 units. The former’s recently introduced facelift will help improve volumes in the coming months. In contrary, the Altroz was the lone bright spot -posting a 5 per cent increase to 2,915 units and recording a healthy 13 per cent month-on-month gain.

Hyundai Creta (3)

The ICE-powered Creta can be purchased with discounts of up to Rs 1 lakh, while the all-electric version is up for grabs at benefits worth up to Rs 85,000

Hyundai Creta is the most popular compact SUV in the Indian market. It has been on sale for more than a decade as the first-gen model of the SUV debuted in 2015 in our market. Currently in its third generation, it has been leading the sales charts for Hyundai. Now, the South Korean automaker had doled out lucrative offers on the purchase of the SUV in June 2026. Hyundai Creta discounts are given in the form of cash benefits, exchange bonuses, scrappage offers and government employee or corporate benefits.

The best-selling Hyundai model, the Creta, is available with total discounts of up to Rs 1 lakh. This includes cash discount of Rs 35,000, exchange offer/scrappage benefit of up to Rs 50,000, and an upgrade offer of Rs 15,000. Government employees and professionals also receive an additional corporate offer of Rs 3,000. However, these benefits are not applicable on entry-level E trim.

The customers opting for E grade can avail a cash discount of Rs 5,000 which is quite less than the Rs 35,000 cash discount on all the other variants of the SUV. As for the diesel variants, the scrappage benefits are capped at Rs 5,000 as compared to Rs 50,000 which are offered with the petrol variants. Presently, Hyundai Creta is priced between Rs 10.90-19.91 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Betting Big On Upcoming Hybrid SUVs – Here’s What To Expect

GaadiWaadi -

2027-Next-Gen-Hyundai-Creta-Rendered-1.jpg

Hyundai has reportedly been working on a host of hybrid SUVs for India over the next two to three years and here are all the information we know so far

Hybrid technology could soon become a major talking point of Hyundai in India. While Toyota and Maruti Suzuki currently dominate the segment through the Hyryder, Grand Vitara, Victoris and Innova HyCross, Hyundai is working on multiple hybrid SUVs that will target different price points. The company is reportedly planning at least three new hybrid offerings for the local market.

The most premium of the trio is expected to be the Palisade Hybrid. Hyundai is evaluating the full-size SUV for India and a launch around 2028 remains possible. Sold overseas as a large three-row family SUV, the Palisade Hybrid combines a turbocharged petrol engine and electric motor while offering premium safety technologies and extensive cabin equipment. If introduced here, it would become Hyundai’s most expensive ICE-powered SUV.

Positioned well below the Palisade will be a completely new three-row SUV known internally as Ni1i. Expected to arrive towards the end of 2027, the model will fill the gap between the Alcazar and now-discontinued Tucson. Unlike many existing seven-seaters that rely solely on petrol or diesel power, hybrid technology is expected to be a core part of the package from the outset.

Hyundai-Palisade-Hybrid-India.jpg

Reports indicate that a modified 1.5-litre petrol engine will work alongside an electric motor with the ability to drive on electric power alone during certain low-speed situations. That capability could become a significant advantage in city environments where stop-start traffic often limits fuel efficiency. Hyundai is also expected to use the same hybrid architecture across multiple future products – helping spread development costs while improving economies of scale.

Kia’s Seltos is also believed to be a potential recipient of this hybrid system. Volume, however, will come from the next-generation Creta. Internally known as SX3, the new SUV is expected to arrive in 2027 and will likely become Hyundai’s first high-volume hybrid offering in India. Few vehicles are better suited for electrification considering the current Creta crossed the two lakh annual sales milestone in FY26 as its popularity will be of certain help.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Plug in hybrid
Tucson PHEV

The upcoming model is expected to move onto Hyundai’s new K3 architecture and could stretch close to the 4.5-metre mark. Test vehicles have already hinted at a noticeably larger footprint compared to the existing SUV. Inside, one can expect upgraded materials, larger displays, additional connected technologies and a more premium appeal. Existing petrol, turbo petrol and diesel engines are likely to continue.

Rivals such as the Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara currently enjoy a largely uncontested position in the mainstream hybrid SUV space and Hyundai’s entry could significantly alter that equation.
