The Swift completed the top four after registrations surged 52 per cent to 21,538 units.

Breaking the mold, the Tata Punch rounded out the top five with 21,313 units. Toyota Dominates Strong Hybrid Car Sales In H1 2026 In India

GaadiWaadi -

toyota innova hycross-14

Toyota controlled more than four-fifths of the strong hybrid PV segment with over 48,000 units in H1 2026 while Maruti Suzuki held three of the remaining top five positions

The strong hybrid space recorded an interesting first half in 2026 led almost entirely by Toyota and Maruti Suzuki. The segment remained concentrated around utility vehicles while sedans and luxury MPVs accounted for a much smaller share of total volumes. The Toyota Innova Crysta finished as the country’s best-selling strong hybrid model in the January-June 2026 period.

The popular MPV registered sales of 27,812 units despite a six per cent decline over the same period last year. Even after the drop, it accounted for 48 per cent of the total strong hybrid market and contributed majorly to the brand posting over 48,000 units in the early half of this CY. Its sibling, the Toyota Hyryder, secured second position after recording 18,577 units.

It posted a notable 23 per cent year-on-year increase. The SUV captured 32 per cent market share giving Toyota the top two positions by a big margin. The Innova and Hyryder together attributed to nearly 80 per cent of all strong hybrid vehicle sales during the first six months of 2026. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara ranked third with 4,086 units.

The SUV witnessed the biggest decline among the leading models – slipping 54 per cent compared to H1 2025. Even so, it remained the best-selling Maruti Suzuki strong hybrid offering during the period. The recently introduced Maruti Victoris entered the rankings directly in fourth position after registering 3,231 units.

The midsize SUV sold through the Arena dealerships immediately captured six per cent of the overall segment. Both the Grand Vitara and Victoris share hybrid technology with the Hyryder. The Maruti Invicto which is the badge engineered version of the Innova Hycross completed the top five with sales of 1,418 units – down 26 per cent over the previous year.

Maruti Suzuki Small Car Sales Jump 34% In Q1 FY27, Market Share Climbs

GaadiWaadi -

maruti-suzuki-wagonr-waltz-edition-1.jpg

The SUV sales, exports and production of Maruti Suzuki in Q1 FY27 also record healthy gains despite commodity cost squeeze

Maruti Suzuki reported a strong start to FY27 led by a notable increase in small car demand as the company posted better revenue, improved domestic volumes and a higher market share during the April-June 2026 quarter. While profitability came under scrutiny from rising raw material costs, the country’s largest carmaker consolidated its position in multiple segments.

The biggest takeaway from the quarter was the comeback of the small car segment. Maruti Suzuki sold around 3.59 lakh small cars during Q1 FY27 by registering a growth of about 34 per cent over the same period last year. The company said these models accounted for 48.9 per cent of vehicles sold in the 18 per cent GST bracket due to consistent demand for its entry-level and compact hatchback portfolio.

The domestic wholesale dispatches crossed 5.34 lakh units during the quarter – showing a growth of nearly 33 per cent on a year-on-year basis. The company’s domestic market share also improved by 230 basis points to 41.2 per cent. The all-important SUV sales also recorded a healthy jump of 44.6 per cent year-on-year.

Maruti Suzuki sold around 1.61 lakh premium vehicles falling under the 40 per cent GST bracket as it secured a segment share of 34.3 per cent. The Indo-Japanese brand’s exports remained another bright spot – increasing 28.6 per cent during the quarter as the company expanded shipments to overseas markets.

Financially, net sales increased about 36.5 per cent year-on-year to nearly Rs. 49,959 crore during the quarter. Meanwhile, its standalone net profit, however, declined around 10.9 per cent to around Rs. 3,352 crore as higher input costs weighed on earnings. The company’s EBITDA margin narrowed to 8.6 per cent from 12.6 per cent in the corresponding quarter last year.

Material costs increased to 80.5 per cent of net sales compared to 74.5 per cent a year earlier due to commodity price inflation linked to the West Asia conflict. Maruti Suzuki indicated that the commissioning of its second manufacturing facility at Kharkhoda played an important part in supporting higher production and overall volume growth during the quarter.

Maruti Suzuki is currently planning to bring in a host of premium products including an all-new electrified MPV codenamed YMC while the new versions of the Baleno and Fronx are also under development. Recently, MSIL brought in the updated Brezza while CNG and other alternative fuel technologies are also being worked on.

JSW MG Hector Hawk To Be Sold In Electric & PHEV Guises In India

GaadiWaadi -

Wuling Starlight 560 (1)

JSW MG Hector Hawk will officially go on sale on August 28 in India and it will be based on the Wuling Starlight 560

JSW MG Motor India is gearing up to introduce the all-new Hector Hawk on August 28, 2026. Despite carrying the Hector name, it is an entirely new product based on the Wuling Starlight 560 and it will become the first MG model to utilise the company’s ADAPT architecture. The Hector Hawk will occupy a position above the current Hector.

The JSW MG Hector Hawk will arrive exclusively with electrified powertrains. The ADAPT platform has been developed to accommodate multiple powertrain technologies. Apart from battery electric and plug-in hybrid systems, the architecture is also capable of supporting range-extender and strong hybrid systems. For India, however, JSW MG’s immediate priority centres around EVs and PHEVs.

The SUV measures 4.7 metres in length, 1.85 metres in width and 1.7 metres in height. The exterior gets rectangular LED headlamps, split daytime running lamps, a blanked-off front fascia on the electric version, wraparound LED tail lamps, a roof spoiler, charging port positioned on the left rear fender and upright SUV proportions as it will mimic the Wuling 560.

Wuling Starlight 560

The cabin also mirrors its global sibling with the presence of an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, 50W wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, connected car technology and a six-speaker audio system.

Safety equipment is expected to comprise six airbags, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic parking brake, rear camera, parking sensors and Hill Hold Assist. The battery electric derivative will draw power from a 69.2 kWh battery pack coupled with a front-mounted electric motor producing 201 hp and 310 Nm.

Wuling Starlight 560 (2)

The claimed driving range stands at 530 km under the CLTC testing cycle. The plug-in hybrid version is expected to feature a 1.5-litre petrol engine, an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery pack. Combined output is expected to stand at 195 hp and 230 Nm. The SUV could deliver an electric-only driving range of 125 km while the combined driving range is projected to be more than 1,000 km.

The Hector Hawk EV will compete against models such as the Mahindra XEV 9S and upcoming Tata Harrier EV while the plug-in hybrid version will rival the likes of Mahindra XUV 7XO.

Best-Selling CNG Cars In H1 2026 – Ertiga, Dzire, Punch, Brezza, Victoris, Fronx

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Victoris (10)

Maruti Suzuki continues its dominance over the CNG market, but Tata is also steadily gaining ground with the Punch and Nexon

Looks like the E20 fuel fiasco has led CNG cars to find plenty of takers in India during the first half of 2026. According to the latest H1 2026 sales data, the top 20 CNG-only models accounted for 98 per cent of the market, showing just how concentrated this segment has become. Maruti Suzuki remains the undisputed leader, occupying six of the top 10 spots, but Tata Motors is slowly making its presence felt with the Punch and Nexon.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga remained India’s best-selling CNG car in the first half of 2026, with 78,764 units sold. That’s a healthy 23 per cent increase over the same period last year. The Ertiga has always had a rather obvious advantage in this space.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire was the biggest mover among the established models. With 75,339 units sold, the compact sedan registered a massive 69 per cent YoY growth and moved up to second place. The Dzire was followed by the Wagon R, which recorded 54,267 units, up 5 per cent. Interestingly, the Wagon R’s share of the CNG market has dropped from 12 per cent to 9 per cent, despite the model continuing to remain comfortably inside the top three.

The real story, however, is what is happening further down the table. Tata Punch CNG sales stood at 41,919 units, registering 43 per cent growth, while the Nexon followed closely with 41,355 units and a 38 per cent increase. The two SUVs have given Tata a much stronger foothold in what has traditionally been Maruti Suzuki territory. The fact that both are now comfortably ahead of the Maruti Brezza’s 39,871 units makes the shift even more interesting.

Maruti also had two other strong performers. The Fronx recorded 33,876 units, growing by 49 per cent, while the Eeco registered 36,075 units, up 31 per cent. The newly introduced Victoris also entered the top 10 with 38,806 units in its first showing. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Aura managed 35,089 units, recording a 29 per cent increase. The Toyota Hyryder deserves a mention as the fastest-growing established model, with sales increasing by a whopping 237 per cent, although its overall volume remains much smaller at 6,867 units.

For Maruti, the numbers reinforce its stranglehold over the CNG market. But there is a little more to the story than simply Maruti selling more CNG cars. Tata’s Punch and Nexon are growing quickly, and buyers are increasingly getting the option of choosing an SUV without giving up the lower running costs that make CNG attractive. The Dzire’s 69 per cent growth and Fronx’s 49 per cent jump also show that CNG is no longer restricted to buyers looking purely for an inexpensive commuter.

Mahindra Vision S Spotted Testing Again Ahead Of August 15 Unveil

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra Vision S (13)

The production-spec SUV has been caught testing once again, and the latest spy shots reveal more about Mahindra’s new compact SUV

The Mahindra Vision S has been spotted testing again, this time giving us a closer look at its production-ready design. The SUV is expected to be unveiled on August 15, when Mahindra is set to showcase several new products as part of its Independence Day event. The latest test mule suggests that the Vision S is getting closer to its final form.

The first thing that stands out from these spy shots is how upright and boxy the SUV looks. Despite the heavy camouflage, the short overhangs, tall bonnet and squared-off body are clearly visible. It also gets a fairly substantial stance for a sub-four-metre SUV. The front appears to feature Mahindra’s new design language, with a broad grille and vertically stacked elements on either side. The production model is unlikely to look as wild as the original Vision S concept, but it seems Mahindra is retaining its core proportions.

The rear is even more interesting. The test vehicle gets a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, giving it a distinctly SUV-like appearance rather than the crossover look that has become common in this segment. The rear windscreen is fairly upright and the body appears quite square. From the pictures, it is clear that Mahindra is trying to give the Vision S a more substantial road presence than its dimensions would suggest.

Also Read: Mahindra Achieves 1 Lakh Unit Sales In July 2026, 60K+ SUVs

Mahindra Vision S (12)

Under the skin, the Vision S will be based on Mahindra’s NU_IQ modular platform, which was showcased alongside the concept last year. The architecture has been developed to accommodate petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains, as well as both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. However, the exact engine and gearbox combinations for the production SUV are still not confirmed. Recent sightings have indicated that an ICE version will definitely be part of the plan.

The Vision S is expected to sit above the XUV 3XO and below the Scorpio-N in Mahindra’s line-up. Interestingly, it will remain under four metres in length but is expected to offer a relatively generous 2,665 mm wheelbase. This should translate into decent cabin space, something Mahindra will need to get right if it wants to take on the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and other compact SUVs.

Also Read: 2026 Mahindra Scorpio N Facelift Leaks Fully Ahead Of Launch This Month

Mahindra Vision S (11)

What makes these latest spy shots particularly interesting is the timing. Mahindra has already confirmed that its next generation of NU_IQ-based SUVs will begin arriving from 2027, and the Vision S is expected to be one of the first. If the company indeed shows the production-spec SUV on August 15, we should finally get a much clearer idea of its design, powertrain strategy and positioning. From what we can see so far, the Vision S looks less like a small crossover and more like a properly shrunk Mahindra SUV. And honestly, that could be exactly what the segment needs.

2026 Tata Punch EV Scores 5 Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating

2026 Tata Punch EV facelift scores impressive adult and child safety ratings in Bharat NCAP

The Tata Punch EV has secured a 5-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP), delivering impressive scores for both adult and child occupant protection. The latest crash test results further strengthen the Punch EV’s position as one of the safest electric SUVs in its segment.

According to the official Bharat NCAP results, the Punch EV scored 31.46 out of 32 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP). The tested model was the Empowered+ S Long Range variant, although the rating applies across the entire Punch EV range, including both Medium Range and Long Range variants.

Crash Test Performance — Adult Occupants

The Punch EV performed exceptionally well in Bharat NCAP’s crash tests. It scored 15.71 out of 16 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 15.74 out of 16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test. The SUV’s body shell and structure remained stable during the impact tests, offering strong protection to occupants.

In the frontal impact test, protection for the driver’s head, neck, pelvis and thighs was rated ‘good’, while the chest and lower legs received an ‘adequate’ rating. The front passenger received ‘good’ protection for almost all critical body regions. During the side impact and side pole impact tests, the Punch EV offered ‘good’ protection for most body regions, with only the chest receiving an ‘adequate’ rating in the side barrier test.

Crash Test Performance — Child Occupants

The Punch EV also delivered a strong performance in child occupant protection, scoring 45 out of 49 points. It achieved full marks in both the dynamic performance assessment (24/24) and Child Restraint System (CRS) installation assessment (12/12). The remaining points came from the vehicle assessment section, where it lost four points.

During the tests, rearward-facing child seats were used for both the 18-month-old and three-year-old crash test dummies. Both child occupants received full scores in the frontal and side impact evaluations, highlighting the effectiveness of the Punch EV’s child safety systems.

Safety Equipment and Specifications

The Tata Punch EV comes equipped with a comprehensive list of safety features as standard. These include six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ABS with EBD, hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, reverse parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system (iTPMS), seatbelt reminders for all occupants and a speed alert system. Higher variants also offer features such as a 360-degree camera and blind spot monitoring, further enhancing safety.

Market Positioning

Priced from Rs. 9.99 lakhs (ex-showroom), the Tata Punch EV continues to be one of the safest electric SUVs available in the compact EV space. With a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating and an extensive list of standard safety equipment, it remains a strong rival to models such as the Citroen eC3, MG Windsor EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
