Renault-Bridger-Concept-1-1.jpg

Here we have explained about the five upcoming compact SUVs that are set to arrive within the next year and a half in India

The compact SUV segment is set to witness a slew of new launches over the coming year or so with several carmakers gearing up to introduce new models. Brands such as Renault, Volkswagen, Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki are all preparing a range of upcoming products and here is a quick look at what to expect.

1. Renault Bridger:

Renault Bridger Concept 2

Expected to arrive towards the end of next year, Renault’s upcoming compact SUV will be positioned below the new Duster and will be underpinned by the highly localised RGMP platform, with plans for both domestic and global markets. Previewed by the Bridger concept, it features an upright stance with a tall bonnet line, boxy proportions, muscular wheel arches, large wheels and prominent pillars while power is likely to come from the familiar 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine already seen in the Kiger and Duster.

2. Volkswagen Tera:

Volkswagen is preparing a new compact SUV for the highly competitive India market. It is expected to make its global debut around mid next year. While it will be based on the same MQB A0 IN platform as the Kylaq, the model will feature its own unique styling rather than being a straightforward rebadged version. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine delivering 114 bhp and 178 Nm, coupled with manual and automatic transmission options.

3. Mahindra Thar Facelift:

A mid-life update for the three-door version of the Mahindra Thar appears to be on the cards this year as suggested by recent test mule sightings. The SUV will receive revised styling cues inspired by the larger Thar Roxx while continuing with the existing engine and transmission options. Inside, updates are expected in the form of refreshed cabin elements and the addition of new features.

4. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Flex Fuel:

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is expected to receive a major update in India this year after seeing strong demand with several features from its Southeast Asian versions likely to be introduced in the domestic model. Among the key additions could be a Level 2 ADAS package while the crossover may also become the first in the brand’s lineup to get a flex-fuel option.

New RE Guerrilla 450 Teased Ahead Of Launch Tomorrow – Big Updates?

GaadiWaadi -

2026-Royal-Enfield-Guerrilla-450-Teased-1.jpg

2026 Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is expected to boast feature updates, improved ride and handling along with visual tweaks

Before its official debut in India on March 27, Royal Enfield has previewed the updated Guerrilla 450 via teaser video as multiple changes are expected to arrive. One of the biggest talking points this time revolves around features. The motorcycle already comes equipped with a ride-by-wire throttle – opening the door for additions like cruise control.

The traction control system is also expected to be introduced for improved safety across different surface scenarios. There is also growing speculation around a bi-directional quickshifter which could either be offered as standard on higher trims or as an optional fitment. Alongside tech upgrades, the motorcycle could see improvements in its hardware setup.

The rear suspension which felt on the stiffer side in the current version is likely to be retuned with better damping characteristics for a more comfortable ride – especially on uneven city roads. Up front, higher variants may even get USD forks but the standard telescopic setup could continue on lower trims. The MY update reminds us of the enhancements received by Hunter 350 on the back of customer feedback.

The existing dual-purpose units may be swapped out for more road-oriented radial tyres to enhance grip levels and provide greater confidence while cornering. Despite these updates, the overall design is unlikely to change dramatically. The Guerrilla 450 is expected to retain its neo-retro styling complete with a round headlamp, wide handlebar and compact proportions.

However, new colour options, revised graphics and new finishes are possible. The motorcycle will continue to be powered by the 452 cc liquid-cooled Sherpa engine, delivering close to 40 PS and 40 Nm. Paired with a six-speed gearbox, it will also boast slipper and assist clutch as standard. It will stay put with the steel twin-spar frame, front and rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS and a low 780 mm seat height.

Higher variants should continue to offer the 4-inch TFT display with navigation and smartphone connectivity. With a combination of improved ride quality, potential feature additions and subtle cosmetic updates, the 2026 Guerrilla 450 is expected to be a more polished package overall. A slight increase over the current Rs. 2.58 lakh (ex-showroom) starting price is likely with full details set to be revealed at launch.

Maruti Suzuki Approves Over 10K Crore Gujarat Expansion, 5+ New SUVs Coming

GaadiWaadi -

Suzuki-eWX-Concept-2.jpg

Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming facility at Khoraj Industrial Estate is set to play a central role in increasing its overall production capacity further

Maruti Suzuki is accelerating its growth plans with a massive Rs. 10,189 crore investment as it looks at expanding its manufacturing footprint in Gujarat. The upcoming facility at Khoraj Industrial Estate is set to play a central role in increasing its production capacity while supporting the brand’s future product portfolio.

The new plant will be developed in phases with the first stage adding an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh units. Over time, the site is expected to scale up significantly with a planned total capacity of up to 10 lakh units per year across multiple production lines. The initial phase will also include shared infrastructure to support future expansion with operations likely beginning around 2029.

It comes as Maruti Suzuki’s existing facilities in Gurugram, Manesar, Kharkhoda and Hansalpur continue to run at near full utilisation. The company currently has an installed capacity of around 24 lakh units annually which can be stretched to approximately 26 lakh units following the integration of its Gujarat operations. The expansion is being driven by domestic demand as well as growing export requirements.

Models such as the Fronx, Baleno, Swift, Dzire and Ertiga continue to be the mainstay in high volume production across both domestic and international markets. Located close to the existing Hansalpur facility, the new site benefits from an established supplier base, strong logistics infrastructure and proximity to ports.

The economic impact of the project is also expected to be substantial. The expansion could generate over 12,000 direct employment opportunities while supporting up to 7.5 lakh indirect jobs through ancillary industries and MSMEs. Alongside capacity expansion, Maruti Suzuki is also preparing for a major product expansion across different segments and price brackets.

Maruti-Suzuki-Fronx-ADAS.jpg

The company plans to introduce seven new SUVs by 2032 comprising petrol, CNG/CBG, mild-hybrid, strong hybrid and fully electric powertrains. Among future launches, a compact SUV positioned against the Tata Punch is expected around 2028 with multiple fuel options including an EV variant. A compact MPV drawing inspiration from Suzuki’s JDM-spec Spacia has also been rumoured.

In addition, the recently launched e Vitara could give rise to a midsize electric MPV as well and the eWX concept could spawn an affordable electric car in the future. The facelifted Brezza will be introduced in the coming months with a new six-speed MT and underbody CNG tank fitment.

Skoda & Volkswagen To Likely Target Hybrid, CNG & EV Options For India

GaadiWaadi -

Volkswagen Tera

Skoda and Volkswagen are expected to explore multiple fuel options for India in the coming years depending on how future emission regulations evolve

As India prepares for more stringent emission standards later this decade, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India is reworking its plans with a focus on flexibility. The company is building a diversified approach that comprises multiple fuel and drivetrain solutions. A key reason behind this is the uncertainty around how quickly infrastructure and consumer adoption will evolve.

While electric PV segment continues to gain traction, its share in the overall market remains relatively small. As a result, the group is also studying alternatives such as CNG and flex-fuel systems alongside conventional and electrified powertrains. It comes at a time when the company is witnessing impressive growth in the domestic market.

It recently achieved its highest ever annual domestic sales crossing the one lakh units mark. Export volumes have further increased overall performance with locally manufactured models like the Skoda Kylaq playing an important role in driving demand. Product momentum is expected to continue through the year as prices of the Kushaq facelift were announced recently.

Skoda-Kodiaq-Auto-Expo-2025.jpg

At the same time, the brand is also looking to expand its appeal with enthusiast-oriented offerings such as the Skoda Kodiaq RS and Skoda Octavia RS along with new variants like the Kylaq Sportline. Apart from Skoda, the Volkswagen Group portfolio in India includes brands such as Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley and Porsche – allowing it to appeal to different spectrum of consumers across price segments.

As for Volkswagen, new developments are also underway. The locally assembled Volkswagen Tayron was introduced recently while updated versions of the Taigun and Virtus are currently in the pipeline. These updates are expected to keep the lineup fresh as competition intensifies in the Indian market and both could play a key role in further upping its volume sales this year.

skoda epiq 2

The debut of alternative fuel technologies and electrified options will depend heavily on policy-related factors such as localisation rules, tariffs and trade agreements. These variables will play a big part in shaping how quickly new powertrain solutions can be brought to market and we will have to wait and see what really pans out as the same applies to many other manufacturers as well.
