TVS Norton Bikes In India

The Norton Commando 961, V4SV and V4CR, which are currently available in the UK market, are likely to make their way to India. However, these bikes will be brought via CBU (Completely Built Up) route. It’s surely an existing news for the enthusiasts, but homologation and after-sales support will be key challenges TVS need to address.

Future Plans For India:

Aiming to tap into the Indian market, TVS and Norton are co-developing a new range of motorcycles, ranging 300cc-400cc. However, there is no official words on their launch timeline. TVS will position Norton as a “halo” brand to improve its brand image in the country. The local assembly of the Norton bikes might happen at TVS’s Hosur facility or a dedicated CKD plant.

For global markets, the British bikemaker is working on a high-performance electric motorcycle to challenge the Harley-Davidson LiveWire and Energica.

TVS & Norton Acquisition Story:

TVS Motor Company acquired Norton Motorcycles (based-out UK) via an all-cash deal worth £16 million (approx. Rs 153 crore) in early 2020. The British motorcycle brand had severe financial troubles, and was on the verge of bankruptcy before the acquisition. The home-grown two-wheeler maker acquired Norton’s brand, assets, and manufacturing rights, but not the liabilities of the past legal issues. In 2021, TVS setup a new facility in Solihull, UK.
