Kia announced two new mass-market electric models for the emerging markets (including India) at its Investor Day 2024. While the automaker hasn’t yet revealed the product name and details, these are likely to be the electric iterations of the Carens and Syros. While the Kia Carens EV is expected to go on sale in the coming months, the Kia Syros EV will arrive early next year. The Syros EV will be the smallest electric offering from the South Korean automaker in India, challenging the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400.
Kia Syros EV – What We Know So Far!
Specific details of the Syros EV are not available at the moment. However, this EV is likely to share the K1 platform with the Hyundai Inster EV, which is sold in select global markets. The Inster EV is offered with two NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery pack options – 42kWh and 49kWh, delivering WLTP-certified range of 300km and 355km, respectively. The Syros EV is expected to come with the FWD (front-wheel drive) system.
The overall design and styling of the Kia Syros EV will be identical to its ICE counterpart. A few EV-specific changes are expected such as the aero-optimized alloy wheels, EV-specific graphics for instrument cluster, new seat upholstery and trims.
Most of features will be carried forward from ICE version including the dual 12.3-inch displays, a 5-inch touchscreen for the climate control, system, a panoramic sunroof, sliding and ventilated second-row seats, a 360 degree camera, Level 2 ADAS and more.
When it comes to the pricing, the Kia Syros EV will definitely be more expensive than its ICE counterpart, which is currently available in the price range of Rs 15 lakh – Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The carmaker aims to achieve a combined sales volume of 50,000 – 60,000 from the Kia Carens EV and Syros EV by 2026.
