First launched in 2015, the Hyundai Creta marked the brand’s entry into the midsize compact SUV segment, and quickly became a brand name in itself. The SUV has always been favoured for its premium feel, feature-rich interior, and multiple engine options. The model is currently in its second generation, and is set for yet another generational shift in 2027. Aiming to challenge its dominance in the compact SUV space, Tata Motors and Renault are set to re-introduce their cult brands in all-new avatars – the Sierra and the Duster, respectively.
Let’s take a look at how these two SUVs could prove to be strong contenders for the Hyundai Creta.
Tata Sierra
The revival of the Sierra brand will be one of the major events in the Indian automobile industry this year. The carmaker has confirmed that the SUV will return in an-all new form in the second half of 2025, possibly around the Diwali season. The 2025 Tata Sierra will come with the 1.5L turbo petrol and 2.0L diesel engines and manual and automatic gearbox options. An electric version of the SUV is also on the cards. The Sierra EV is likely come with multiple battery options, delivering a range of around 500km.
Interestingly, the Tata Sierra EV could be offered with a 4-seater lounge-like interior along with the regular 5-seater configuration. In terms of features, the SUV will offer a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a large 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, auto dimming IRVM, ventilated seats, 360 degree camera and Level 2 ADAS.
New Renault Duster
The third-generation Renault Duster’s India launch has been planned for 2026. While official details are yet to be revealed, it’s expected to be offered with two turbo petrol engines – a 1.0L and a 1.3L. This time around, the Duster might also come with the hybrid powertrain. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer, with a CVT automatic likely reserved for the higher trims.
Compared to its previous generation, the 2026 Renault Duster is set to be far more upmarket. The SUV is expected to be offered with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a 6-sepaker Arkamys 3D sound system, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, ADAs and more.
