Upcoming Hyundai EV for India will target high volume sales and it will carry aggressive pricing; likely launch late next year or in 2027

Hyundai has outlined its boldest-ever vision for the coming decade – setting its sights on 5.55 million global sales by 2030. The brand emphasises on electrified mobility with almost 60 percent of total volumes expected to come from EVs and hybrids. Hyundai’s long-term plan focuses on introducing new body formats, advancing its in-house software capabilities, and expanding production capacity.

In a strategic move, Hyundai is exploring the possibility of introducing its Genesis lineup to India – gauging demand for the luxury brand. Meanwhile, the company is preparing to launch its first Extended Range EVs by 2027 which are expected to deliver an impressive range of up to 965 km on a single charge – leveraging integration between battery and powertrain technologies.

The Korean auto major aims to achieve 3.3 million electrified vehicle sales per year by 2030. As part of this push, it plans to bring in more than 18 hybrid models across its entire portfolio including its luxury Genesis brand. Confirmed launches include a hybrid version of the Palisade while Genesis will begin its transition to hybrid powertrains as early as 2026.

It has also detailed a specific approach for its passenger EV lineup across different regions. Europe will see the Ioniq 3 while India is slated to get its first domestically developed Hyundai EV aimed squarely at the mass-market segment. Meanwhile, China will handle production of the Elexio SUV as well as a new electric sedan.

Hyundai has revealed intentions to make a strong comeback in the North American pickup segment with a completely new midsize truck, building on the groundwork laid by the Santa Cruz. At the same time, the company is targeting expansion in commercial mobility, with plans for vans and hydrogen fuel cell trucks already in development for the US market.

Currently, Hyundai is gearing up to introduce the all-new Venue next month with an assortment of changes inside and out. Alongside, the company has been testing the facelifted versions of the Ioniq 5, i20, and Verna. The upcoming India-focused Hyundai EV is expected to borrow design cues from the brand’s popular sub-4m SUVs like the Venue and Exter while also drawing inspiration from the global Ioniq/Inster Electric models.

To likely be positioned below the Creta Electric, it is expected to be priced competitively thanks to a high degree of local content and buyers can expect two battery options at launch with the claimed driving range going over 450 km between charges.
