Vietnamese automaker VinFast is off to a slow start in India with Tata Motors and Mahindra giving strong competition with their new EVs
Four months into its India launch, VinFast has finally reached the first sales milestone of 1,000 units. The company has also rolled out a price hike for both its models, the VF 6 and VF 7. VinFast launched the VF 6 and VF 7 in India in September last year and began delivering them to customers in October. According to retail data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the company sold 826 units of the VF 6 and VF 7 combined last year.
A recent report from The Times of India said that VinFast has already sold more than 200 EVs in January, with which its cumulative sales have crossed 1,000 units. Initially, the company had priced the VF 6 between 16.49 lakh rupees (ex-showroom) and 18.29 lakh rupees (ex-showroom), and the VF 7 between 20.89 lakh rupees (ex-showroom) and 25.49 lakh rupees (ex-showroom).
With the introductory period over, VinFast has raised the prices of both the EVs. The prices now range from 17.29 lakh rupees (ex-showroom) to 19.19 lakh rupees (ex-showroom) for the VF 6 and 21.89 lakh rupees (ex-showroom) to 26.79 lakh rupees (ex-showroom) for the VF 7. Depending on the trim, the former has become 80,000 rupees or 90,000 rupees more expensive, and the latter costs anywhere between 1 and 1.3 lakh rupees more now.

The VinFast VF 6 is a Hyundai Creta rival, measuring 4,241 mm in length, 1,834 mm in width, and 1,615 mm in height. It is available in two FWD variants, one with 174 hp and 250 Nm of torque and one with 201 hp and 310 Nm of torque. A 59.6 kWh LFP battery pack chargeable at up to 100 kW delivers a range of 468 kilometres in the low-output variant and 463 kilometres in the high-output variant.
At 4,550 mm long, 1,893 mm wide, and 1,596 mm tall, the VinFast VF 7 is a Tata Harrier.ev rival, and it is available in three variants. The base variant has a FWD drivetrain layout and uses the same 174 hp/250 Nm motor and 59.6 kWh LFP battery pack as the base VF 6. This combination delivers a range of 438 kilometres.

The middle variant has a FWD setup with the same motor, but it pairs this drive unit with a 70 kWh LFP battery pack, which is chargeable at up to 110 kW. It can travel up to 532 kilometres on a single charge. The top variant has a dual-motor AWD configuration, which gives it 349 hp and 510 Nm of torque. It uses the same 70 kWh LFP battery pack as the middle variant, but its range is slightly lower – 510 kilometres.
VinFast assembles both VF 6 and VF 7 from imported CKD kits in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The company operates 31 showrooms and 84 service centres across India.
