The Maruti Suzuki Dzire headed the sedan segment by a wide margin as Amaze and Aura post notable year-on-year gains in July 2026
The sedan space recorded a 14 per cent year-on-year increase in July 2026 taking combined sales of the nine models in this list to 37,728 units compared to 33,106 units during the same month last year. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire continued to dominate the segment accounting for nearly two-thirds of total volumes as the arrival of a brand new generation late last year has proven to be successful.
The Dzire registered 23,791 units in July 2026 – up from 20,895 units a year earlier. Its 13.9 per cent annual growth resulted in a 63.1 per cent segment share – putting it well ahead of every other sedan on the list. The Hyundai Aura finished second after recording a domestic tally of 5,817 units as compared to 4,636 units in July 2025. The compact sedan posted a 25.5 per cent year-on-year increase and held a 15.4 per cent share of the segment.
The Honda Amaze secured the third position with 3,436 units – registering the most noticeable growth among the top three. Its volumes rose 71 per cent from 2,009 units in July last year – taking its segment share to 9.1 per cent. The Volkswagen Virtus ranked fourth despite a year-on-year decline. The midsize sedan recorded 1,420 units against 1,797 units in July 2025 with a 21 per cent drop. Its segment share stood at 3.8 per cent.

The Skoda Slavia followed in fifth place at 993 units. The sedan’s sales fell 15 per cent from 1,168 units during the corresponding period last year – giving it a 2.6 per cent share. The Tata Tigor registered 758 units in July 2026 – down from 968 units a year earlier. The 21.7 per cent decline left the compact sedan at a 2 per cent segment share. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Verna was marginally behind the Tigor at 737 units.
Its sales declined 10.8 per cent from 826 units in July 2025 while its segment share stood at 2 per cent. The Honda City occupied the eighth position after recording 571 units as the recently facelifted midsize sedan registered an 11.6 per cent annual decline from 646 units – accounting for 1.5 per cent of the combined volumes. The Toyota Camry completed the list with 205 units – up from 161 units in July last year.

The premium hybrid sedan posted a 27.3 per cent increase but its contribution to the overall segment was only 0.5 per cent. The July figures show a sharp divide between the market leaders and the rest of the segment. The Dzire alone sold more than four times the combined volume of the second- and third-ranked Aura and Amaze while the Amaze recorded the month’s biggest percentage increase among the high volume models.
