The 2026 Maruti Suzuki Baleno gets a new engine, improved features list and mileage amongst other revisions in India
The first mid-cycle update for the second generation Baleno introduced in 2022 has arrived with notable changes. The Baleno continues to be amongst the best-selling cars in India and let alone, the top-selling premium hatchback but do the updates really stand out?
Here are the five key things you should know about the new Baleno.
1. New 1.2-Litre Z-Series Petrol Engine
The biggest mechanical change comes from the new 1.2-litre Z-Series petrol engine replacing the previous 1.2-litre K-series four-cylinder unit. The three-cylinder engine already serves in Swift and Dzire and now finds a place under the bonnet of the Baleno. It makes 82 hp and 112 Nm and is coupled with a five-speed MT or a five-speed AMT while the CNG version gets hooked to a MT for now.
2. First-In-Segment Level 2 ADAS
The key safety addition is Level 2 ADAS which makes the new Baleno considerably more advanced than its predecessor. The package includes Adaptive Cruise Control, High Beam Assist, Advanced Emergency Braking and Lane Keep Assist. The segment-first feature could prove to be the ultimate selling point in this mid-cycle update.
3. Exterior Design Changes
The exterior does not receive a comprehensive makeover but the changes are evident at the front. It gains a redesigned grille with triple chrome horizontal slats, a reworked bumper and fog lamp housings. With no change in dimensions and alloy wheel design, the rear features subtle changes only.
4. Interior & New Features
The new Baleno gets ventilated front seats which should prove particularly useful in the country’s warmer conditions. The equipment list also includes a Qi-certified wireless smartphone charger with active cooling and a premium Clarion sound system. The dashboard retains its layout as no changes to the touchscreen and console were made. It also gets tyre pressure monitoring system, six airbags, HUD and 360-degree camera.
5. Improved Mileage
The petrol manual variant of the Baleno facelift has a claimed mileage of 23.80 kmpl – a 6.4 per cent improvement while the AMT automatic version goes even further at 24.77 kmpl with a 7.9 per cent jump. The most significant efficiency leap belongs to the factory-fitted CNG manual variant which sees a 9.8 per cent increase to 33.61 km per kg.
