Tata.ev has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme to cover its entire electric vehicle portfolio in India. The scheme, which was previously available on the Tiago.ev and Punch.ev, now includes the Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev, Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev.
Under the BaaS model, customers can finance the vehicle and its battery separately, reducing the initial amount required to purchase an electric car. The programme offers an alternative to conventional ownership, under which the customer purchases the vehicle along with its battery.
With the expansion, BaaS is available across Tata.ev’s electric car range, from the Tiago.ev to the Harrier.ev. The starting vehicle price under the scheme is Rs 4.69 lakh for the Tiago.ev, while the battery usage charges vary depending on the model and battery capacity.
Tata.ev BaaS: How the Battery-as-a-Service Scheme Works
The Battery-as-a-Service programme separates the financing of the electric vehicle from that of its battery. Customers opting for the scheme take separate loans for the vehicle and the battery, with repayment terms depending on the financing arrangement.
The battery-related cost is calculated on a per-kilometre basis, with charges varying across models. The final cost also depends on factors such as the battery capacity, down payment and loan tenure.
Customers can alternatively choose the conventional purchase option, which includes the battery in the vehicle’s price.
Tata.ev has partnered with multiple financial institutions to offer financing options under the programme. The company says the scheme is intended to provide an additional way to finance an electric vehicle without changing the overall ownership experience.
Tata.ev BaaS Prices and Battery Usage Charges
The BaaS programme covers six electric cars, with battery capacities ranging from 19kWh to 65kWh. The starting vehicle prices under the scheme are lower than the corresponding conventional purchase prices, while battery usage charges are billed separately.
Here is a breakdown of the prices and battery-related costs for each model.
| Model | Battery Capacity | Starting Regular Price | Starting BaaS Vehicle Price | Battery Usage Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tata Tiago.ev | 19 kWh | Rs 6.99 lakh | Rs 4.69 lakh | Rs 2.6/km |
| Tata Punch.ev | 30 kWh | Rs 9.79 lakh | Rs 6.59 lakh | Rs 2.6/km |
| Tata Nexon.ev | 45 kWh | Rs 14.34 lakh | Rs 8.99 lakh | Rs 2.6/km |
| Tata Curvv.ev | 55 kWh | Rs 17.19 lakh | Rs 10.99 lakh | Rs 4.4/km |
| Tata Sierra.ev | 63 kWh | Rs 18.79 lakh | Rs 11.99 lakh | Rs 5/km |
| Tata Harrier.ev | 65 kWh | Rs 21.79 lakh | Rs 14.49 lakh | Rs 5.5/km |
All prices are starting prices. Battery usage charges are billed separately under the BaaS scheme. Actual costs may vary depending on financing terms and customer eligibility.

Tata.ev BaaS: Models Covered Under the Programme
The expanded scheme includes electric vehicles across different segments, from compact hatchbacks to larger SUVs.
Tata Tiago.ev: The entry-level electric hatchback is available with a 19kWh battery under the listed BaaS option.
Tata Punch.ev: The electric micro-SUV is offered with a 30kWh battery under the listed scheme.
Tata Nexon.ev: The electric SUV is included with a 45kWh battery option.
Tata Curvv.ev: The electric SUV-coupe is covered with a 55kWh battery.
Tata Sierra.ev: The electric SUV is listed with a 63kWh battery.
Tata Harrier.ev: The largest model in the listed range is available with a 65kWh battery option.
The battery usage charges range from Rs 2.6 per kilometre for the Tiago.ev, Punch.ev and Nexon.ev to Rs 5.5 per kilometre for the Harrier.ev.
What the BaaS Expansion Means for Buyers
The expansion gives customers an additional financing option across Tata.ev’s electric vehicle range. By separating the battery cost from the vehicle purchase, the programme reduces the initial vehicle payment compared with the listed conventional prices.
However, the lower upfront price needs to be considered alongside the recurring battery usage charges and the terms of the financing arrangement.
For buyers who cover higher annual distances, the per-kilometre battery cost could form a significant part of the overall ownership expense. Those driving fewer kilometres may have a different cost profile, depending on the financing terms and other expenses.
The conventional purchase option remains available for customers who prefer to buy the vehicle and battery together.
