Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, based on the low-cost IMV 0 platform, could make its world premiere in the April-June 2026 period

Toyota’s upcoming Land Cruiser FJ, originally expected to arrive in 2025, is now scheduled to enter global production in the second quarter of next year according to reports. Designed as a more attainable addition to the brand’s off-road range, the model will sit on the IMV 0 platform – a ladder-frame architecture that also underpins the rugged Hilux Champ currently sold in Thailand.

Leaked design patents have cemented the visual trajectory of the long anticipated model which stays in line with the previously shown concept and teaser image. The renderings reveal a boxy, upright front fascia, squared-off wheel arches and a flat roof profile. Expected to slot beneath the Fortuner in Toyota’s SUV hierarchy, the Land Cruiser FJ is said to be nurtured as a nod to earlier generations of the nameplate.

Design details seen in the leaked patent sketches offer further clarity on the production-spec Toyota Land Cruiser FJ. A pair of C-shaped LED daytime running lights take centre stage at the front while the rear end is defined by boxy tail lamps, upright body panels and prominent cladding. The tall pillars and a flat roofline round off its throwback silhouette – evoking earlier Land Cruiser generations.

As for what will lie under the bonnet, early indications point to an expansive powertrain lineup. While specifics remain under wraps, speculation suggests that the range could begin with a 1.5-litre diesel and extend to the familiar 2.8-litre GD series mild-hybrid 48V diesel engine already used in several of Toyota’s existing ladder-frame models.

Additional reports indicate that Toyota could offer the upcoming Land Cruiser FJ with a full-time four-wheel-drive system. The setup is expected to feature a Torsen limited-slip differential and a range of selectable drive modes aimed at improving traction across varied terrain. As for its prospects in the Indian market, there is no confirmation yet regarding whether Toyota intends to bring the FJ here.

Petrol options for the upcoming Land Cruiser FJ are also being weighed with both 2.0-litre and 2.7-litre inline-four engines said to be in contention. Of the two, the 2.7-litre 2TR-FE motor, known for delivering 163 PS, appears to be the frontrunner at this stage. Although no electric variant has been confirmed yet, the possibility of a battery-powered version cannot be ruled out entirely.

Mahindra Thar EV, Scorpio EV & Scorpio Pickup Likely Debut Next Month

GaadiWaadi -

mahindra-global-pickup-truck-concept-2-1.jpg

Mahindra has so far teased the Vision.T, Vision.S and Vision.SXT likely previewing the Thar EV, Scorpio EV and Scorpio pickup respectively

As anticipation builds for Mahindra’s Freedom_NU showcase scheduled on August 15 in Mumbai, teaser campaigns are shaping up expectations. After recently dropping glimpses of the Vision.T concept online – hinting at the upcoming Thar EV – the company offered a peek at a second model, the Vision.S as well while another teaser has also been released.

Speculation has intensified around the possibility of the near-production Scorpio Electric making a debut during the Independence Day event as the Vision.S. The new teaser signifying the Vision.SXT concept points toward the close-to-production iteration of the Scorpio N pickup concept first revealed in 2023 at the Futurescape event in South Africa.

Mahindra appears to be preparing a new lineup of future-ready models that bridge familiar nameplates with next generation electrification. The latest teaser further read “A vision designed for bold adventures” and thus confirming another SUV capable of serious off-roading. Its association with the Vision.S in terms of nomenclature reiterates the Scorpio connection.

You could readily see hinges on the clamshell bonnet, muscular dark fenders and wide tyres while more off-road based equipment could also be on offer to emphasise its appeal as a hardcore 4×4. The Vision.T concept, on the other hand, is expected to signal a notable departure from the Thar.e study that preceded it – potentially setting the tone for Mahindra’s next phase of electric off-road design.

Beyond this model, the brand is reportedly preparing to pull the covers off at least three more concepts and two of them have already been teased – Vision.S and Vision.SXT – while also introducing an entirely new platform that could underpin several models in the years to come.

We have brought you a detailed look at what’s expected to arrive as part of Hyundai’s expanding SUV lineup in the near future

Hyundai’s SUV bench is getting crowded but not with what’s already on sale. A new set of launches is brewing behind the scenes with the Korean manufacturer working across multiple fronts. From mid-cycle facelifts to platform upgrades and a few completely new nameplates, the upcoming vehicles stretches from petrol to hybrid and electric.

The intention is simple enough: to dig deeper into segments where Hyundai already plays and to find new customers where it does not. Updated versions of known models will arrive alongside next-gen replacements and a few long anticipated first timers. Here is a list of the potential upcoming SUVs:

1. New Hyundai Venue:

While precise mechanical details remain under wraps, expect a complete design overhaul along with a reworked interior and brand new features.

3. New Hyundai Tucson:

The updated iteration of the Hyundai Tucson, retailing in several international markets for sometime now, comes fitted with a reshaped grille, new skid plates, tweaked lighting elements and revised alloy wheel designs. The vehicle is underpinned by the E-GMP architecture, a modular skateboard-style EV platform shared with the Kia EV9. It is expected to arrive via the CBU route.

6. Hyundai Ni1i Premium SUV:

Hyundai’s engineering teams are preparing a three-row SUV that would bridge the gap between the Alcazar and Tucson. The larger model is planned around a strong hybrid setup and is expected to be manufactured at the company’s Talegaon plant. If current timelines hold, production could begin in a couple of years.

7. Hyundai Bayon:

2024 Hyundai Bayon Facelift_

Based on the global Bayon, Hyundai is expected to introduce a new compact SUV in the coming years. The sub-four-metre SUV makes a lot of sense as the platform will be shared with the i20 and we expect the 1.0L turbo petrol, 1.5L diesel and 1.2L NA petrol engines to feature as well.

Maruti Suzuki To Launch 2 New SUVs Soon In India – 1 EV & 1 Hybrid

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

An all-new 5-seater midsize SUV, likely dubbed Escudo, and an electric SUV, the e Vitara, are headed to Maruti Suzuki showrooms in the coming months

As we exclusively revealed a while ago, Maruti Suzuki has been working on a new five-seater SUV that will sit below the Grand Vitara in the portfolio, yet it may end up being marginally longer than the model it sits under. Retail will take place through the Arena channel, not Nexa, placing it in a different commercial zone altogether.

Both the 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid petrol units are expected to be carried forward from the Grand Vitara for this new SUV and it could be dubbed the Escudo. However, we expect the former to feature prominently in the lineup as it will likely be priced between Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom) to appeal to a large band of consumers.

Judging by the spy images, it is clear that the SUV will take design inspiration from the Grand Vitara as well as the forthcoming e Vitara. The interior could be heavily influenced by the Grand Vitara and Brezza as the shared features list comprising a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multiple airbags, a semi-digital instrument console, climate control, etc could be available. A CNG version is also a possibility.

New-Gen Grand Vitara (1)

In addition, the fully electric e Vitara is also being lined up for a market debut around the festive period (September mostly). Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming midsize electric SUV will be sold in three trims: Delta, Zeta and Alpha. Two battery configurations will be available – a 48.8 kWh pack and a larger 61.1 kWh unit with the latter expected to return an ARAI-certified driving range of around 500 km per charge.

Once launched, it will square off against a rapidly filling field of electric midsize SUVs such as the Mahindra BE 6, XEV 9e, Tata Harrier EV and Hyundai’s Creta EV. It will spawn a Toyota sibling in the form of Urban Cruiser BEV and both models will be rolled out of SMC’s production facility in Gujarat for India and international markets.

The India-bound version is expected to be limited to a front-wheel drive setup. A fast charging function will allow the battery to be topped up from zero to 80 per cent in just 50 minutes. Maruti Suzuki will provide a broad selection of ten exterior colour choices for buyers.

Mahindra XEV 7e, Thar & XUV700 Facelifts Arriving Soon – Key Details

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra-XUV.e8-Spotted-India-Launch.jpg

Mahindra’s newfound push for premium SUVs in the recent years has significantly elevated its brand image, and there’s more to come

Mahindra plans to launch seven ICE SUVs and five BEVs by 2030, and many of these would be higher-end products. Among the new premium launches next year will be the new Mahindra Thar, the new Mahindra XUV700, and the Mahindra XEV 7e.

1. New Mahindra Thar

Introduced in 2020, the second-generation Mahindra Thar has seen phenomenal success, but it’s well overdue for a facelift now. However, product lifecycles are typically longer for ladder-frame SUVs, and seeing the current model still doing well, Mahindra will take around a year more to replace it with the facelifted version.

Codenamed W515, the new Thar will follow in the footsteps of the larger Thar Roxx. A similar new radiator grille with double vertical slots, LED headlamps with a C-shaped DRL, revised bumper, new alloy wheels, etc. are among the expected exterior changes. The interior, too, could somewhat mirror the Thar Roxx, featuring a new steering wheel, a larger, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a sunroof (hard-top-only). The new Thar is unlikely to have any mechanical changes.

2. New Mahindra XUV700

The new Mahindra XUV 700 will be a facelifted version of the current model launched in 2021. Spy shots indicate it will feature tweaked headlamps with dual U-shaped clusters, a new six-slot radiator grille, revised bumpers, and new rear reflectors among other exterior changes, possibly including new 18-inch alloy wheels.

Mahindra XUV700 Facelift2

Inside, the facelifted XUV700 could have some major changes to the dashboard design, including the incorporation of a triple-screen setup like the XEV 9e, as well as a new colour scheme. No mechanical changes are expected in this model either. Mahindra is likely to launch the new XUV700 within a year.

3. Mahindra XEV 7e

The aforementioned facelift ICE SUVs are likely to be preceded by a first-ever Mahindra XEV 7e, essentially a Mahindra XEV 9e in an SUV format similar to the Mahindra XUV700. Unlike the SUV-coupe, the SUV, which will have a silhouette similar to the XUV700, will offer three-row seating.

Mahindra-XEV-7e-XUV-700-EV.jpg

The XEV 7e is likely to be offered with the same 170 kW (228 hp)/380 Nm and 210 kW (282 hp)/380 Nm rear motor and 59 kWh and 79 kWh LFP battery pack options as the XEV 9e. Expect it to hit 0 to 100 km/h as quickly as close to 7 seconds and deliver a range of up to around 600 km. Expect Mahindra to offer the XEV 7e with a frunk, a gesture-controlled power tailgate, adaptive suspension, a 12.3-inch passenger touchscreen, AutoPark, and various other premium features similar to the XEV 9e.
