Tata Sierra 7-Seater Under Consideration As ARGOS Platform Allows Expansion

Tata Sierra Price

Tata evaluates a 7-seat Sierra and AWD variants enabled by the ARGOS platform

Tata Motors is examining the possibility of adding new body styles to the recently launched Sierra, including a potential three-row version. With the five-seat Sierra priced from Rs. 11.49 lakhs (ex-showroom), the company has room to introduce variants positioned above it without clashing with the Harrier, Safari or Curvv.

Three-Row Sierra Being Evaluated

Now that the standard Sierra is on sale, Tata Motors is studying whether a longer-wheelbase, seven-seat derivative makes sense for the brand. Company executives indicate that any expansion of the Sierra line-up would need to bring additional volumes while maintaining clear differentiation from existing SUVs. A 3-row layout could serve this requirement, allowing Tata to participate in an expanding segment that sits between mid-size and full-size SUVs.

A three-row Sierra, if approved, would likely be priced above the current five-seat model but remain below larger D-segment offerings.

AWD Versions Also in Development

Beyond practicality-focused variants, Tata Motors is working on a more capable, all-wheel-drive Sierra. The manufacturer has confirmed that AWD is under development for both internal combustion and electric versions. The Sierra EV is slated to arrive next year with an AWD option from launch, while the ICE-based AWD model is expected in early 2027.

The AWD variant is aimed at buyers seeking moderate off-road capability without sacrificing everyday usability, a space where Tata currently does not offer an ICE 4×4 SUV.

ARGOS Platform Enables Future Flexibility

The Sierra line-up sits on the new ARGOS platform, which has been engineered to support a wide range of powertrains including petrol, diesel, CNG and hybrid. It also allows for multiple wheelbases, AWD hardware and varied interior configurations, giving Tata significant flexibility to build additional versions without major structural changes.

Tata Motors leadership describes ARGOS as one of the company’s most comprehensive development programmes, involving a new architecture, new powertrains and updated manufacturing systems.

The final decision on expanding the Sierra into a family of models will depend on early market performance and customer response to the newly launched SUV.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara To Officially Launch In India Tomorrow

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will be available in two battery packs and will be sold through the premium Nexa dealerships

Maruti Suzuki’s long-awaited electric SUV is finally set to make its official entry into the Indian market tomorrow. While anticipation has been building for months, the interesting part is that the vehicle has already been in active production for quite some time. At the manufacturer’s Gujarat facility, export-spec units have been rolling off the assembly line for a few months already.

Before a single model was seen on Indian roads, the e Vitara had already begun its international journey. Large consignments were shipped from Pipavav Port to a wide range of European and other nations. Amid all this activity overseas, Maruti Suzuki expanded its domestic SUV strategy recently by bringing in the Victoris – a new midsize offering placed below the Grand Vitara in the lineup.

Back to the e Vitara, the brand’s first zero-emission offering in India, its sale will take place through the premium Nexa retail chain. Pricing is expected to slot in above the Rs. 17 lakh mark (ex-showroom), putting it right in the middle of an increasingly crowded EV space. To meet different user requirements, two LFP battery options will be available, both sourced from BYD.

A a 48.8 kWh pack and a larger 61.1 kWh unit with a claimed range of over 500 km on a single charge and it will also support DC fast charging. The smaller battery variant will be paired with an electric motor producing a peak output of 144 PS and 192.5 Nm while the more powerful version will use a 174 PS motor offering the same torque figure.

The DC fast charging capability enables the battery to go from zero to 80 per cent in roughly 50 minutes. It will lock horns with strong rivals including the Tata Curvv EV, Harrier EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra’s XEV 9e and BE 6 along with the MG ZS EV and Windsor EV. Under the body, the e Vitara is built on the modular Heartect e platform.

Mahindra XEV 9S Is The Most Feature-Loaded SUV For Under Rs. 20 Lakh

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra XEV 9S 4

Mahindra XEV 9S Pack One Above variant features a triple 12.3-inch screen layout, Level 2 ADAS and so on

Mahindra officially entered the electric seven-seat space with the XEV 9S which was launched in Bengaluru as the newest addition to its INGLO-based portfolio that already includes the XEV 9E and BE 6. While the range stretches across multiple variants and battery configurations, it’s the Pack One Above trim that sticks out as the surprise package, delivering a rich feature list at a starting price of Rs. 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

For anyone looking to step into an electric SUV without crossing the Rs. 20 lakh line, this base version offers plenty of value. The XEV 9S is offered with three battery choices – 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh – with power outputs ranging between 170 kW and 210 kW. In the 70 kWh configuration, the motor produces 180 kW and 380 Nm while the top-spec 79 kWh version pushes out a full 210 kW.

Fast-charging support of up to 180 kW means the battery can be topped up from 20 to 80 per cent in roughly 20 minutes. The SUV is also larger than the XEV 9e, benefitting from a longer wheelbase and offering up to 527 litres of cargo space with the third row folded – plus an extra 150 litres in the frunk up front.

Mahindra XEV 9S 2

The design takes inspiration from the XUV.e8 concept and carries familiar elements from the XUV700. Buyers can choose from six colour options including Everest White, Stealth Black, Ruby Velvet, Desert Myst, Nebula Blue and Midnight Black. The range is split into Pack One Above, Pack Two Above, Pack Three Above and the top-end Pack Three Above+.

The Pack One Above variant boasts an impressive amount of technology and equipment fitted as standard. It comes with a triple 12.3-inch screen layout powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset. Features such as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, built-in Amazon Alexa, 5G connectivity and a suite of pre-installed apps create a connected and lounge-like feel inside the cabin.

Mahindra-XEV-9S-Interior-2.jpg

Mahindra’s Me4U functions allow remote controls like charging schedules and cabin pre-cooling while the BYOD setup lets occupants integrate their own digital devices into the system. Multi-step regenerative braking with an automatic mode, single-pedal driving, variable-ratio electric steering, adaptive suspension and multiple drive modes (including Boost) are also available.

On the safety front, six airbags, Level 2 ADAS support, blind view monitoring, a 360-degree camera system, all-wheel disc brakes, brake-by-wire technology, drowsiness alert and real-time tyre pressure display make it one of the safest packages yet. Comfort-enhancing features in the base trim include dual-zone climate control, a panoramic skyroof, powered driver’s seat, premium fabric upholstery, second-row slide and recline function, rear ventilation and so on.

With bookings opening on January 14, 2026, test drives starting from January 5 and deliveries set for January 23, it is expected to make a huge impact in the premium e-SUV space just as its siblings, the XEV 9E and BE 6.

Renault And Nissan To Enter The Crowded SUV Segment With New Models

GaadiWaadi -

Dacia Duster

Scheduled to go on sale next year, the Renault and Nissan SUVs will further intensify the competition in the already crowded mid-size segment

The mid-size SUV segment has become the most competitive space in the Indian automotive market, accounting for around 13 models. Tata Motors recently launched the Sierra, while Maruti Suzuki introduced its second offering in the segment in the form of the Victoris. Now, Renault and Nissan are also targeting the mid-size SUV segment, with two brand-new products slated for launch in 2026.

Renault has already confirmed that the new-gen Duster will debut in the Indian market on January 26. While the details are scarce at the moment, the SUV will be quite similar to the international spec model in terms of design, however, there could be some country-specific changes.

The third-generation Duster will be based on the CMF-B platform, measuring around 4,360 mm long, with a wheelbase of 2,673 mm. While a big part of Duster’s popularity in India was because of its smooth and efficient diesel powertrain,  the upcoming model will only rely on petrol engines.

The international spec model comes with a 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol motor, however, we will likely get the 1.3-litre HR13 turbo petrol unit, tuned to produce 154 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox. Apart from this, a localised strong hybrid powertrain is also under consideration for India, which could be introduced at a later stage.

Nissan will also introduce a new mid-size SUV in the Indian market. Dubbed the Tekton, it will be based on the Renault Duster, using the familiar CMF-B platform. It will likely be launched around the same timeline, most probably in the first half of 2026. The Japanese carmaker gave a small glimpse of the Tekton’s exterior design, highlighting its inspiration from the flagship Patrol SUV.

The Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton will be quite familiar in terms of major mechanical parts, albeit with a different top hat. We expect both SUVs to carry a similar feature kit, but there could be some differentiation in the variant distribution. The Nissan SUV will share the powertrain with the Duster, i.e. the 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine, putting 154 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque.

Renault and Nissan are banking on the popularity of the mid-size SUVs in India, which is expected to grow in the coming years. The segment has around 13 models as of now, making it quite crowded, with the Creta leading the sales chart. It will be interesting to see how the launch of the Duster and Tekton will affect the overall market dynamics of the mid-size SUV segment.

Mahindra Aims To Achieve 7,000 Units In Monthly EV Sales Soon

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra XEV 9S 3

Early success with the first two models in the dedicated EV portfolio instils confidence in Mahindra to expand production and raise sales targets

Having received a phenomenal consumer response for its ‘Born Electric’ line-up, Mahindra is ramping up production. The company expects its monthly sales to grow significantly in the coming months, according to a new report from PTI.

At the launch of the XEV 9S this month, Mahindra announced plans to expand the production capacity of Born Electric models at the Chakan (Maharashtra) plant from currently 90,000 units to 1.2 lakh units by March 2026. The operationalised production capacity stands at 5,000 units per month, and the company plans to raise the actual output as well, to 8,000 units per month.

Rakesh Jejurikar, the Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive and Farm Divisions, told PTI that the company expects to sell 7,000 units—nearly 90% of the produced volume—per month. By March 2028, Mahindra anticipates that approximately 25% of its sales will come from electric models. The majority of this EV volume should come from the dedicated models like the BE 6, XEV 9S, and XEV 9e.

The versions shipped to European markets may have several technical changes to comply with the different safety regulations and meet local consumer preferences.

Between April 2021 and March 2027, Mahindra will have invested up to 16,000 crore rupees in dedicated EVs. Of these 16,000 crore rupees, it has allocated 6,500 crore rupees for the launch of the current three models, including 4,500 crore rupees for the BE 6 and XEV 9e combined and 2,000 crore rupees for the XEV 9S.

Tata Punch Facelift Spied Testing Again, Launch In Early 2026

GaadiWaadi -

Tata Punch facelift

Tata Motors’ best-selling car expected to get its mid-cycle refresh with improvements in styling, comfort, and safety

The facelifted Tata Punch doesn’t appear to be planned for launch this year as media reports initially suggested. However, Tata Motors is continuing to test the updated model on public roads, new spy shots have revealed.

Latest spy shots indicate that Tata Motors is designing the facelifted Punch similar to the Punch.ev. Noticeable differences are expected at the front, but with a familiar look. The Punch should continue featuring a split headlamp setup post facelift, but with a slimmer design for the daytime running light and brighter and more efficient, LED main lamps.

Spy pictures have revealed that the facelifted Punch will feature a new radiator grille with horizontal slats, which should lead to a more elegant styling. The front and rear bumpers are also expected to be new. Tata Motors will likely offer newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels and tail lamps as well. In the tail lamps, the visual revisions will likely extend beyond the cluster, with a fresh shape making the new look immediately noticeable.

Tata Punch facelift (2)

The interior of the new Tata Punch should also have a number of cosmetic improvements. Spy shots have already revealed a new two-spoke steering wheel, an improvement aimed at giving the car a classier look. The new steering wheel should feature an illuminated brand logo, making the car more appealing to tech-savvy and young customers.

Another major upgrade inside could be a 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a feature already available in the Punch.ev. Ventilated front seats, also borrowed from the electric derivative, should improve comfort. Tata Motors may level up safety with the introduction of a 360º camera system, blind spot monitor, and six airbags.

Tata Punch facelift (1)

The new Tata Punch is unlikely to have any changes with respect to the engine or transmission. The company may offer it with the same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that produces 87 hp and 115 Nm of torque and 1.2-litre Revotron bi-fuel petrol-CNG engine that develops 72 hp and 115 Nm of torque running on gas. A 5-speed manual transmission will be standard, but while Tata Motors gives a 5-speed AMT option with only the petrol engine in the current model, it may offer that even with the petrol-CNG engine in the new one.

Tata Motors may launch the new Punch sometime in early 2026 and price it from around INR 5.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
