In December 2025, Maruti Suzuki Fronx finished as the most sold compact SUV ahead of Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Punch

The segment of compact SUVs continued to dominate the Indian passenger vehicle market in December 2025 as buyers gravitate towards high-riding, feature-rich and value driven offerings. Models from Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai, Mahindra, Kia, Toyota and Skoda featured prominently with most nameplates recording good year-on-year growth.

Heading the way was the Maruti Suzuki Fronx which emerged as the highest-selling compact SUV for the month. The crossover posted domestic dispatches of 20,706 units – nearly doubling its December 2024 tally of 10,752 units resulting in a 93 per cent growth. It is one of the highly successful SUV launches in recent past.

Close behind in the second position, the Tata Nexon retained its strong footing with 19,375 units, up 43 per cent from 13,536 units a year earlier. The Nexon continues to thrive on its wide powertrain lineup comprising petrol, diesel and electric versions and is being offered in a competitive price point appealing to a vast majority of customers.

The Tata Punch also maintained its volume grip clocking 15,980 units – a 6 per cent rise year-on-year.

The micro SUV will receive its biggest update yet in its ICE form today as it looks to consolidate its stance further in the segment. Among Korean brands, the Hyundai Venue recorded a total of 10,322 units – virtually flat with last year’s numbers despite receiving a brand new generation recently while the Hyundai Exter added 5,612 units, posting a 6 per cent increase.

While the Elevate has the highest base price in its segment, it is also the model with the lowest price for its top configuration. That is mainly due to Honda offering only a basic naturally aspirated petrol engine across the line-up. It is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 89 kW (119 hp) and 145 Nm of torque, linked to a 6-speed MT or a CVT. It delivers a fuel economy of 15.31 km/l with the former and 16.92 km/l with the latter.

Toyota Dec 2025 Sales Analysis – Innova, Glanza, Fortuner, Hyryder, Taisor

GaadiWaadi -

toyota innova crysta (2)

Toyota recorded total domestic sales of 34,159 units with a 37 per cent year-on-year growth as Innova led the way ahead of Hyryder and Glanza

Toyota Kirloskar Motor completed the final month of 2025 on a strong note recording total domestic sales of 34,159 units with a 37 per cent year-on-year growth compared to 24,887 units in December 2024. The performance also indicates a healthy 14 per cent month-on-month increase over November 2025 with good demand across MPVs, SUVs and premium offerings.

Heading the pack was the Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross duo which together posted 9,901 units in December 2025 – representing a modest 2 per cent YoY growth but more importantly, a 7 per cent MoM rise. Appreciable fleet demand, family buyers and the popularity of the hybrid powertrain continue to keep the Innova portfolio Toyota’s biggest volume contributor.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder emerged as Toyota’s second-best seller for the month with 7,022 units – reporting an impressive 47 per cent YoY jump. While sales dipped 5 per cent compared to November, the overall annual growth shows increasing acceptance of strong hybrid technology and growing midsize SUV demand across different market places.

Top 10 Midsize SUVs Dec 2025 – Scorpio, Creta, Victoris, Harrier, Elevate, Taigun

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra Scorpio N (1)

The list of top 10 midsize SUVs in December 2025 saw Mahindra Scorpio leading Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder and Victoris

The midsize SUV segment remained one of the most competitive categories in the domestic PV market in December 2025. Sales data shows an apparent split between strong volume leaders, steady performers and models facing declines due to competition and lifecycle factors. The year-on-year numbers reveal where demand is accelerating and where it is beginning to ease off a bit.

At the top, the Mahindra Scorpio dominates with 15,885 units adding nearly 3,700 more sales than last December. A 30 per cent jump indicates sustained demand helped by good acceptance of the Scorpio N and steady dispatches of the Classic variant as the Scorpio range manages to outsell Hyundai Creta in the final month of the year.

The Hyundai Creta holds second place with 13,154 units. Growth is limited to four per cent but the key takeaway is consistency. Even in an increasingly crowded segment, the Creta maintains high monthly volumes and it long led the segment on a monthly basis in CY 2025. In third, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara records 8,597 units – improving by 21 per cent year-on-year.

The growth comes largely from better traction for the strong hybrid variants and better supply stability. The Toyota Hyryder mirrors this trend even more tellingly – jumping 47 per cent to 7,022 units – making it one of the fastest-growing midsize SUVs in December. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris makes a strong impression in its early sales phase with 6,210 units.

The Victoris is retailed through the regular Arena dealerships and it has been gauging interest from consumers across the country since debut. Among the next set, the Kia Seltos posts a notable 54 per cent rise – reaching 4,369 units. Complemented by the arrival of the new generation, its volume sales will only grow in the coming months.

The Tata Harrier stands out with the highest growth rate at 82 per cent – though absolute volumes remain lower at 2,378 units. On the flip side, the Honda Elevate and Volkswagen Taigun register declines of 2 per cent and 24 per cent respectively. The Tata duo could gain more volumes soon courtesy of the recently introduced petrol version.

4 Brand New SUVs Launching In India In The Next 2 Months

GaadiWaadi -

4 Upcoming SUV

This article lists the four brand new ICE-powered SUVs which are all set to launch in the next couple of months in the Indian market

The new year has begun on a fantastic note for the Indian automobile industry. Four major SUVs namely new-gen Kia Seltos, Mahindra XUV 7XO, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, and petrol derivatives of Tata Harrier & Safari have already been launched and we are just in the second week of 2026. The next couple of months are going to be even bigger for the four-wheeler industry as multiple new SUV models are ready to hit the Indian market. In this piece, we will talk in detail about the 4 upcoming brand new ICE SUVs launching in the next 2 months in the Indian market.

1. Renault Duster

The new-gen Duster will finally break cover on January 26 to mark its highly anticipated return in the Indian market after a big gap of four years. Recently, the company released the first teaser video of the SUV with claims that it has been tested for 1 million+ km across three continents. The new-gen Duster appears to be way more advanced, premium and upmarket than the discontinued model in 2022.

Dacia Duster (1)

The new-gen Duster will debut Level 2 ADAS tech for the brand in India. It is also likely to feature a panoramic sunroof. Underpinning the heavy localised version of the CMF-B architecture, the SUV is expected to come with 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging and 6 airbags. It will be powered by a 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine with top power of 154 bhp with manual and auto gearbox options.

2. Nissan Tekton

The all-new Tekton SUV, based on the new-gen Renault Duster, will be unveiled on Feb 4 in India. Though sales will only start by mid 2026 in the Indian market. The term ‘Tekton’ stands for “craftsman” or “architect” in Greek language. The SUV flaunts connected LED headlamp and tail-lamp setup, which is inspired by the brand’s flagship Patrol SUV. It will also get pull-type door handles, multi-spoke alloy wheels and silver-finished roof rails.

Nissan Tekton (2)

Inside the cabin, Nissan Tekton dashboard will come in a three-tone finish. A few notable features onboard the SUV include sunroof, automatic climate control and wireless phone charger. While the base variants of the Tekton are likely to be equipped with Magnite’s 1.0L petrol engine, albeit with a slight power bump, the mid and top-spec trims will share the 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine with the Renault Duster.

3. Volkswagen Tayron

Volkswagen India has confirmed the debut of the Tayron 7-seater SUV in R-Line trim on Jan 28 in the country. Slated to go on sale in and around March 2026, the German brand’s new flagship SUV will be locally assembled at the brand’s factory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line

Volkswagen Tayron shares platform and engine with the Tiguan R-Line while boasting of a few India-specific visual tweaks such as the inclusion of 19-inch alloy wheels in place of the global-spec model’s 17-inch units. It will be packed with a 2.0L petrol mill which belts out 201 bhp and 320 Nm. The engine will be linked to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.

4. MG Majestor

MG Majestor is likely to launch on February 12 in the Indian market. Derived from the China-spec Maxus D90, it will be positioned above the Gloster SUV in the British brand’s portfolio. The brand’s new flagship model was unveiled at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Recently, the Majestor was spotted undisguised at a dealer yard in India.

MG-Majestor-1.jpg
Upcoming Majestor

MG Motor India has also sent out a ‘Block Your Date’ invite for Feb 12 & 13, and hence we believe that the SUV will be launched on these days. Measuring over 5 metres in length, it will house the same 2.0L diesel engine in single and twin turbo choices with power of 159 bhp and 213 bhp, respectively. The SUV will directly rival Toyota Fortuner, Volkswagen Tayron and Skoda Kodiaq in the domestic market.

2 New Creta EV Rivals Coming This Month – From Toyota & Maruti

GaadiWaadi -

New Creta Rival EVs

Manufactured in Hansalpur, Gujarat, the first EVs from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) are already on sale in European markets

Maruti Suzuki and its long-term strategic partner, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), are all set to foray into EVs. Both Indo-Japanese joint ventures plan to launch a premium SUV as their first electric model.

Nearly a year ago at Auto Expo 2025, Maruti Suzuki unveiled the e Vitara, and that’s the model it plans to launch as its first EV. The company has already been exporting the e Vitara for several months now and recently held the car’s media drive in India, albeit without revealing a lot of key details.

The e Vitara is 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,640 mm tall, and has a 2,700 mm wheelbase. It will only be available in front-wheel drive, with a choice of two motors and two battery packs. The base variant’s motor will produce 105.8 kW (142 hp) and 192.5 Nm of torque and will be powered by a 49 kWh LFP battery pack.

Maruti e Vitara

The top variant’s motor will develop 128 kW (172 hp) and 192.5 Nm of torque and rely on a 61 kWh LFP battery pack. Maruti Suzuki has revealed 543 kilometres as the official range of this configuration. It has also confirmed features like 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10-way power driver’s seat, a 40:20:40-split sliding and reclining rear seat, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and seven airbags.

On 19 January, TKM will introduce the Toyota Urban Cruiser, a model already on sale internationally. The Urban Cruiser is a corporate cousin of Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara, differentiated mainly by a hammerhead shark-inspired front end that looks much cleaner and classier.

Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV Teased

The Urban Cruiser features a flatter and slightly shorter bonnet, sleek headlamps, and a visibly shorter functional grille. Vertical side air inlets in the bumper project confidence in a subtle manner. Compared to the e Vitara, a visibly larger area of the Urban Cruiser is covered by smooth panels for a more elegant styling.

Elsewhere, save for distinctive alloy wheels and different branding, the Urban Cruiser’s exterior is completely identical to the e Vitara. The interior is even more similar, with Toyota-specific branding being the only key difference. TKM will likely launch the e Urban Cruiser with the same battery packs and motors as Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara, which should mean the same maximum range of 543 kilometres.
